3.5/5 I've been here…read moretwice and have had one subpar experience and one excellent experience. Average it out and I give it 3.5/5. The first time I came here service was poor. It took almost 30 minutes for my friend and I to be served at the bar. The first time I was here I had the roundhouse mac n cheese. It was good though nothing special, but the poor service definitely cancelled out what was decent food. The second time I came here on a work dinner, where we somehow stuffed almost 20 people on a long table. Service was a lot better, though maybe it was because I was with a large group. I went during poutine week, so I had the Taco Mac n Cheese Poutine. The mac n cheese was actually mac n cheese bites, which was ehh...but I liked the concept! Cheese curds are good, size was generous, and the nacho beef was cooked well and juicy. So to cancel both visits out, I'll leave is as 3.5/5 for now. If I get good service next visit I'll be happy to bump this up to a 4.

I work nearby here and came on the last day of burger week, because their burger was being ranked top 5 in all of Canada. I had to see what the hype was about, and sure enough the hype was justified. Their burger was a Whiskey King burger, which included their Whiskey River grilling sauce, cheese, glazed bacon, fried egg, onion rings, and your typical add-ons on a pretzel bun. It came with a cream of mushroom soup. The soup really caught me off guard. It was AMAZING. The mushroom pieces were plentiful and you can tell it was homemade, not canned. The burger looks like a giant tower and I was afraid to cause a mess, but it was delicious! I especially loved their burger and the bun that was used. You wouldn't think a town as small as Bird's Hill would house an amazing restaurant like this, but here we are. Definitely worth a visit if you have a car!

It turns out we arrived just at closing time (7pm), but Eva insisted on serving us and having us dine in rather than taking our food to-go. The pizza we ordered was wonderful and I would welcome a trip back there again to try other things from the menu. We were the last ones in the restaurant and Eva was so nice, to the point that she sat chatting with us into the evening, as if we were old friends who had paid her a visit. What an incredibly friendly and interesting woman she is! On the way home we talked about what an enjoyable evening it had been and how glad we were to have gone. "Wow, can you believe THAT?" was actually spoken by my friend, referring to Eva's incredible hospitality and easy conversation. We consider ourselves lucky to have arrived just in the nick of time before the door was locked, and went away feeling like we'd made a new friend. It's a bit of a drive if you're from Winnipeg, but if you feel up to a little road trip I would highly recommend heading out to Vita and stopping in at Eva's. +.5 for service…read more Smitty's, compared to the popular Manitoba grown chain restaurants (e.g: Tavern, Stella's), is more family focused, with an older clientele. I don't dine at Smitty's often, but I won't say no to their wing deals and their poutine. I actually had their poutine in my most recent visit, as I wasn't hungry and wanted something light for dinner. Their poutine was above average in my opinion, their fries are fine, they're generous with their curds, and their gravy wasn't bad either. Nothing amazing, but it did the job. Service was excellent here. For what it's worth, Smitty's in my opinion has the best value for wing night specials. Their wings are on the smaller side, but it does equate to more wings since it's per pound. I'd say that's where you'd see me dine here more.

This past burger week Nuburger catered a Taylor Swift theme to all their burgers. For this location they had the Anti-Hero burger, which consisted of baconnaise, bacon, curry chips, cheddar, and a grilled pineapple. As usual, the standard for Nuburger's quality continues with this burger. A generous slice of cheddar, bacon, and the curry chips provided a nice crispy touch. The pineapple slice was a nice touch to complement the saltiness of the bacon and chips. No complaints at all. The fries that came with the burger were not seasoned at all. Some folks might like that, I usually do like a little bit of salt/seasoning though. Something of note for next time. Good location for those in the north/east/Transcona area.

The restaurant is slightly upscale, with a wealth of food options at somewhat higher than average prices. I was torn between a few items, but I settled with a starter french onion soup and an entree of chicken tenders and fries. I've had lots of french onion soups in my life. This one was quite good; the gruyere cheese was plentiful and was gooey, which is how it should be. The chicken tenders were crispy with plenty of batter. The honey dill sauce is on the creamy side, which I didn't like as much but I can imagine others preferring the creaminess of the sauce. It won't be a place that'll be on my regular visit rotation due to location and price, but I'd definitely have this in my list of suggestions for a special occasion.

On two of the occasions, the food came before I had a set up at the table, and the server disappeared, leaving me with no cutlery and a meal rapidly getting colder. The first time this happened I contacted the restaurant management and said that rather than leave a bad review, I would like to speak to him about it. My husband and I ate here the night before an early morning flight because we didn't feel like dealing with an Uber after checking into our hotel. We expected convenience. We never felt rushed, which made for a relaxing evening before a travel day. My husband and I both ordered the Chicken Souvlaki Bowl, and it was absolutely delicious. The grilled chicken was tender and flavorful, and everything tasted incredibly fresh. My sister ordered the Pickerel Provençal, and my brother-in-law had the Braised Beef Short Ribs.
