It is becoming harder and harder to find a reputable witch doctor in this town. Used to be, you could practice trepenation and the application of leeches with just an associate's degree, but the city now requires people to use barbaric techniques such as "medicine" and "surgery". If you want to get things done the old fashioned way, and drive the evil entities from your soul with alchohol, this is the place to visit. The staff manage to maintain a steady pace while applying the soothing array of beverages to the the souls of the huddled masses that gather here, day in, and day out. The bathrooms are too clean for a dive though, 1/5 stars. read more

3.5/5, +.5 for service I stopped by here with a couple friends after checking out a block party in the area. Despite living downtown I had shockingly never come here until recently. It's a typical dive bar that's welcoming to all, as shown by some of the decorations inside. Even the washrooms scream social activism, which is kinda cool to be honest. I had the yellow dog platter without the jalapenos (not a jalapenos person inside hot dogs). It came with a soup of the day, which was a beef barley soup. The soup was amazingly good. The hot dog was also quite good. I do agree with Jennyfer A.'s comment in that the sauce was lacking, so I did drop a star there. Portion wise it was perfect for someone who was 75% hungry. Service was excellent here. Will definitely return whenever I'm in downtown and am looking for food nearby! read more

I had supper this evening at Yellow Dog Tavern. It's not a fancy place but I found it comfortable. I ordered Mac & Cheese with Chorizo with no parmesean. It was really good. There was lots of cheese and it was tasty The chorizo had a bit of a bit. I would get this again. Ashley was my server ... she was friendly and took good care of me. read more

Good vibes here, a classic bar with great service. Love the atmosphere, prices are super reasonable and the nachos are to die for.

Would give more stars if possible. Absolutely bangin establishment. I live for the chicken quesadilla. Amazing salsa. Staff is tight rad and the secret to its success read more

I had the Yellow Dog Platter hot dog without the jalapeños and I liked the size of the hot dog, it's almost as big as 2 hands! But there was not enough cheese in the hot dog. It was all meat and no sauce or a very, unsatisfying thin layer of sauce. The meat part was well cooked and tasty though. The mushroom soup was creamy and good. Average tasting for mushroom soup. The waitress was polite. read more

Visited this place while in town for work based on Yelp reviews are well as reviews from Rate Beer Places - I like to explore the local beer scene when I travel. Canada does not have much in the way of a beer scene in terms of craft brewing, at least not like the States. And they love their bland beers. In general, Canadian beers are like this: Pale Ale in Canada = Lager (or even a Pils) in the US IPA in Canada = Pale Ale in the US DIPA in Canada = IPA in the US For this place, while their tap list was small, I really appreciated that it had a local focus. And, it had a Half Pints seasonal DIPA which I thought was very good. I sat at the bar as a solo diner, and the bartender was efficient and friendly. I had an order of jalapeno poppers and they were OUTSTANDING. The atmosphere is friendly and I really enjoyed my time in this place, I would eagerly return. read more

If great things come in small packages, great times occur in small places. The Yellow Dog Tavern is a very small blues bar behind the Walker Theatre (Burton Cummings Theatre), on Donald. Its small quarters make the experience even more intimate and Greg, the friendly bartender, ensures your stay will be relaxed. They have a great deli next door that supplies great food to go along with the fine selection of beers on tap. Get there before 8pm to get a good seat, especially if there's a band performing. read more

Yellow Dog Tavern - Typical Saturday night - Pubs Near Me - Winnipeg, Manitoba

The table I was seated at afforded me an excellent view through the open door way of the kitchen. Unfortunately while I was waiting for my bill I was horrified to witness one of the members of the cooking staff call back an order that was about to be served only to take a piece of the naan bread off the plate, wipe something off of it using his very dirty shirt, tear a piece of it off by scratching it with a finger nail and then place it back on the plate for service! I was so dumbfounded and shocked that I couldn't find the words to even tell the server who arrived at my table with my bill what I had witnessed. I paid and left. I wish I had said something as now I feel like the unsuspecting customer could easily have been myself earlier in the evening! If only my bill had come sooner and I hadn't witnessed such handling of the food! Makes me wonder if anything similar was done to my food earlier!! Yuck! Needless to say I will not be going back! read more

I have been here a few times , and they have yet to disappoint . Known to some as "The Place You Go for a Drink Before and/or After A Show at the Burt" there is much more to this awkwardly located pub. Lately I have experimented with their food menu and everything I have tried (ie. Bison burger, nachos, jalapeño poppers, etc) has been top notch. I've never had a bison burger I loved until I came here. Finally it was cooked perfectly ! Service is excellent . There is a regular staff here that is friendly and provides efficient service. The vibe at this place is hopping , and I love the music . Great decor to top it all off. Parking is a little weird, but you'll figure it out. And the place also functions well as a quick stop if you want to do a couple jag shots before the show. Or after a Jets game. Or after the gym. Whatever you're into . read more

Some friends and I stopped in to have a few drinks before seeing a movie the other week. I decided I wasn't into the movie idea, so I stayed behind and got incredibly drunk by myself and it was awesome. The place was pretty much dead because it was the middle of the week, so I got pretty good service obviously. I loved the girls' washroom! Its such a cute little room and super super spacious. Only the one toilet though, so I could see it being a problem if it was really busy. Unless I missed something and this wasn't the only ladies room? When a few more people started to come in I started taking my drink to the washroom with me and some guy was like "Haaaaay, you don't need to take your drink to the bathroom, I'll watch it for you, ha ha ha". Oh. Creepy. Once I returned from the washroom (drink in hand) he told me that if I don't want to get roofied then I should stay away from Whiskey Dix. Hahaha. Okay then. Anyways, it was cool. If you want to get loser drunk by yourself then I suppose this is just as good a place as any. I have no idea how many drinks I had, but they were all doubles and I was pleasantly surprised with the bill when I got it. read more

A nice small fun bar, area a little rough but music and vibe is good Street parking, park in a brightly lit place I am not kidding about the rough area read more

I came here via yelp reviews. I had a spicy coconut Thai soup which was superb. A pear, feta cheese & walnut salad excellent! A garden burger made from scratch with guacamole, pesto mayo & lots of veggies. The beer I had was really good, a little dog Scrapper IPA & a Humus Ludicrous double IPA. Both local beers. The service was excellent. A very friendly place I will visit again if I end up in Winnipeg. read more

One of the best hidden food place in downtown. Offers various amounts of choices for food in their menu and they also have day specials. I'd recommend the yellow dog platter it won't disappoint your tastebuds. Over all restaurant experience is great! Would eat here again! read more

My FAVORITE pub in the City! The place is small, so come early if you want a seat, especially if there's an even happening Downtown! The beer selection is decent, lots on tap from Half Pints and there's always a seasonal brew too! On top of that, there is also a full bar, decent wine and a good selection of hard liquors too. Food is great, all sandwiches are served with either salad or chips with tasty homemade dip, nothing deep fried. I am a fan of their take on jalapeno poppers, not deep fried but baked, I have not seen anything like them elsewhere. It's pretty much everything you could want from a neighborhood pub, you feel at home, prices are CHEAP for what you get...if hockey is what you want to watch, there are always TVs showing the games, but it's not the main focus of the night, and their music selections are always spot on. read more

Love this place. As a vegetarian it is a place where the LOCAL beer is fresh and the food is all done in house. Service is sharp and I can't help but go back. A must stop in my Winnipeg travels. read more

I've stopped in here everytime I'm in Winnipeg for the last 5 years. Sure- it's an easy crawl from the hotel I stay in...but so is the Elephant & Castle...and the service is WAY better and more personal. The prices are super affordable. Food is good and it's just down right cozy! Go there!! read more

Winnipeg's best pub could be so much better. Great food, good beer selection and fair prices all are important ingredients, but the yellow dog falls short in service. Not sure why, but all the servers seem angry. Was quite busy before a jets game and it felt like the servers resented customers. Too bad. read more

Great place! - good food, great service, and tasty local brew on tap. Divey type place but I think it needs 2 dollar signs - entrees are $10-$12 and drafts are about $5. That's not a $1 dollar sign to me. Would definitely come back! read more

Good atmosphere, a little dingy but sometimes that's okay. Service was excellent and we're pretty sure it's haunted (haha). Excellent local draught beer... The menu is reasonably priced, we had the spinach and artichoke dip appetizer and it was tasty. Quality little Irish pub. read more

It is worth coming here for the Half Pint [local brewery] Stir Stick Stout alone. Add in the perogies [as the spell it here] and you've got a meal! Server friendly, ambience low-key. They could lose the TVs, but I suppose people would have to talk to each other then. read more

Went there yesterday (Sat) at 3:30 pm. The hours say it should be open but it was locked up solid. No lights on either. Walked through the cold for nothing. Maybe owner had an emergency, benefit of doubt, but nobody there so disappointing. read more

This quirky tavern would be right at home in Seattle or San Francisco. Simple adaptations of classic bar food make old favorites feel like home cooking. They have a good selection of craft brews on tap. No doubt a unique place this side of the Rockies. read more

Tavern is an apt name for Yellow Dog. It's a relaxed place somewhere between dive bar and lounge. Its location between the MTS Centre and the Exchange makes it a great meeting spot if you're going to a concert or other event downtown. read more

The Mac & cheese was the best I've ever had! Highly recommend to anyone in the area or during/after a jets game

Food is really great and good beers choices all at a really reasonable price. But the servers, some of the most rude unpleasant people I've ever come across. I've been there a couple times and had 2 different servers, both were not very personable and didn't crack a smile once. read more

Was a little disappointed. This place had more of a cafe vibe than of a tavern. The are two small bars that seat 3-4 people each, and no dedicated bartender. I sat at one of the bar seats and three different staff waited on me. I was there on Election night, same night of a Toronto Blue Jay play-off game. What was on TV?... the election returns. C'mon man! The wait staff was really nice and the Rueben was cooked perfectly. The tomato soup was very good too. Nothing wrong with the place, but not the experience I wanted. read more

Stopped in for lunch on Tuesday March 12, 2016. Lunch special (Baja Chicken Wrap) was really tasty!! There was only 1 server who was taking care of everything. She was really busy and looked overworked, but never made one mistake that I could see. I wish every restaurant/bar/pub had a server as capable as her. Great job! read more
