Elephant and Castle is a British-inspired Canadian pub located in downtown. It's often busy, especially if there are events happening in the arena. I've been here twice now and have been generally satisfied with the food here. Their chicken tenders are known to be one of the best in the city, and that was what I had in my most recent visit. In a city where the market for chicken tenders is competitive, they do a great job here. I actually find their honey dill sauce to be what carries this dish, it's the best I've had in the entire city. Service isn't too much to write home about, but I was content as long as the food was good, in which case it was here. I'm not supposed to eat wheat or cows milk due to super annoying allergies I developed but holy #*$& those things were unreal. 2. This place has the best fish and chips ever! The tartar sauce was delicious! The fish that is fried is as big as the plate. Great proportions if you are hungry and I was! The fries are also pretty well made. You can ask for the French fry brown gravy on the side like I did. I had fun dipping my French fries in it. The gravy was delightful! The person who accompanied me ordered the Bangers & Mash. He liked the mash potatoes a lot but he found the sausage to have a bit too much of a pepper-y taste to them. I was staying in the attached Delta hotel on St.Patrick's day evening so I dropped in solo for a pint and some supper. The servers are super welcoming and quickly got me a table and a pint. I ordered the special burger and fries that came with a Welsh rarebit gravy. It was pretty awesome and the fries were nicely done. There was a fellow singing and playing acoustic guitar to some familiar songs and getting a decent response for a late Sunday evening. I'm glad I stopped by. read more

This restaurant is located on the main floor of the now Delta Hotel. It has been here for decades. I have been to this place a ton of times when I lived in Winnipeg. To make a long story short, the company that I worked for at the time had an employee discount to use the gym and pool at this hotel when it used to be the Crowne Plaza. I got a membership. The downside after a workout was that I always was hungry afterwards. I ended up having dinner here before heading home. It wasn't the best scenario when you are trying to stay in shape and lose weight! I revisited my old restaurant hangout when I was in Winnipeg in July 2016. It was pouring rain that evening. I parked on the street and dashed into the restaurant. I dried off while I browsed the menu. I have a number of favourites here, from bangers and mash, to halibut fish and chips. Over the years, the restaurant's interior has gone through a series of makeovers. There are now more modern booths. The bar looks classier. I ordered the shepherd's pie with mixed greens. I loved the volume of mixed greens that you still get. The shepherd's pie was flavourful and comforting as I had remembered it to be. My go-to dessert is the highland bread pudding. There is something about the buttery rum sauce that goes perfectly with the custardy bread pudding. I love this dessert so much. It did not disappoint me when I was there. I had supper this evening at Elephant & Castle. I ordered Butter Chicken. It looked good and the sauce was delicious ... except there wasn't a lot of chicken. Alas, it was mostly sauce with a few small specks of chicken. I was still hungry and thought about ordering dessert but I don't really have a sweet tooth. Wings were $0.39 each tonight. You always know what you get when you wander into a "pub" like this. They're all the same and they might as well be Boston Pizza. The service, food, booze and liquor is all fine. Walking distance from several hotels! I had the Butter Chicken Poutine. OMG, cheese, fries, butter chicken? Genius! I know it's a chain, but it was close to the hotel and I was hungry! Came here on a Sunday, and being British I wanted something that reminded me of a Sunday dinner at home. I ordered the stuffed Yorkshire pudding for $14 and loved it. The Yorkshire pudding of course wasn't as good as the ones at home, but it was close enough. The dish had a lot of flavor and was just what I wanted to finish the week off. The atmosphere was great and the service was great. At one point the server accidentally spilt cider on me after knocking my glass, and I got another cider for free and a lot of apologies. They are thin sandwich style pickle slices that are dipped in panko and deep fried. There's no pickle to be tasted. This is an English-style pub located in the Delta Hotel. I came here for dinner after a day at the office. I ordered the fish and chips. I think the quality of the fish was fine. However, the poor filet was over-cooked in the fryer. It was almost as hard as a hockey puck. Additionally, I had a side of salad greens. And it was absolutely swimming in a dressing that was cloyingly sweet. On the plus side, the Guinness was fine. I'm on the fence as to whether I would return. I want to give it another chance since the waitress was nice. But the food wasn't encouraging. read more

I and 2 others at our table had the Stuffed Yorkshire Pudding which was awesome. One had Fish and Chips and the fish was sooooo big. They also had Bangers and Mash, which was also good.
