I was passing through town and made a stop to help at one of the Habitat Builds. After the build I wandered around town and literally chose this place due to the name and all the shite I was avoiding in the states by taking a travel across Canada. The place is a bit higher than a 3 but without 1/4 stars Yelp makes it hard to give more accurate reviews. For dinner ? The Donair ! I haven't had one in years and was super excited about finding it on the menu. It did not disappoint! Nothing beats a good Donair . I would say fresh cut fries should be added to the menu . They make meals that much better. Also one thing I like about dinning in Canada is that so many places have fresh cut fries. All in all a good experience. Lovely staff. Good food. Good beer. read more

Its not really a British or Irish pub, it's a student bar with some British decorations - it's not terrible, just not worth the hype. Customer service isn't great, and several of the patrons are much to be desired. It's some kind of hang out for local government people who were not the nicest. I was told many times that Mark Carney held an even here during the election - apparently if I was 100 in love with that I should leave. I just didn't want to engage in politics at all. Won't got back. read more

The manager is really nice here. He kept checking in on us and making sure our water and ice tea were refilled. I also really like how they decided to be a part of February's Burger it forward campaign. This means that whenever someone buys their special KH Burger some of the money gets donated to Manitoba food banks like Manitoba Harvest. When we went there my guy bought the KH burger and he really liked the jalapeños in it. I tried their Nacho chips and I loved how cheesy they were. You can also tell the waiter no jalapeños like I did and they just don't put it in there. Which is great! The ambiance is cozy and comfortable. They also have a pool table in the back. Overall I think this place is great! The menu has a little bit of every major cuisine and a lot of people come here with friends to talk and hangout. read more

Great pub atmosphere and the food is good! The staff is always friendly when I have been there. I would recommend.

Check thisplace out! Excellent poutine. Great beer choices. Sidewalk seating with a little park across the street. The plastic patio furniture was a little rickety but some of the other tables looked more durable. It's nothing fancy in the inside. Just a pub with a friendly bartender who will help tourists find things in Winnipeg. Even went as far as to try to help me find a German beer that I couldn't find in the States. Check out this little pub and the neighborhood. read more

The service and ambience was good , but the poutine we ordered was not tasty. Otherwise awesome place for hangout and the band was awesome !

+.5 for service King's Head Pub has been the central meeting place for going out with friends for drinks since I moved to Winnipeg. It's a relatively central location in the Exchange District, just across from Old Market Square. It's been discussed before, but I definitely want to emphasize the alcohol selection here. It's huge! There's also lots of TVs across the pub, so if you wanna catch your local sports team in a pub you can definitely do it here. I had a rum and coke, which was very good. Everyone in my party was also satisfied with their drinks, and we've certainly made this our default pub spot whenever we want drinks. Service was excellent, although I haven't been here on a weekend yet so the understaffed reviews I see may be legit. read more

We thought we'd support them since the owner had been on the news so much lately begging for business. But come on, $16 for fish and chips and you get NO tartar sauce? And the $12 donair was underwhelming. The fries were cold (5km Drive, so that's not an excuse). The fish was clearly fried in old oil. Won't order from here again. read more

The best British pub in town, period! This is my favorite place to "hang out with the boys", but I also like to bring my family here to eat. This place has it all, a true British pub atmosphere, fresh beer on tap, excellent food, pool tables, darts, sports on TV and even live music. This pub has the largest selection of beers I've seen in Winnipeg. 27 beers on tap including Kilkenny, Harp, Smithwicks, Boddington's, Newcastle, Stella, Guinness and Carlsberg. Be warned there isn't many watered down beers like Bud Lite here, though there are plenty of good domestics like Keith, Rickard's, Sleeman's, FGD and Half Pints. Food is phenomenal, this is where I get my soul food from. My all time favourites are Pork Livers w/ Onions and Bacon, Bangers 'N' Mash, Lamb Quorma, Butter Chicken, Fish N' Chips. If you just want an appy, you can't go wrong with Nachos or Checken Fingers. For something REALLY spicy try their Vindaloo, but be warned it is HOT! read more

Beer selection bar service - 5/5. Solid collection of taps, knowledgable bartenders able to answer all our questions on the local options. Floor service - 2/5. They were curt, not helpful, and disappeared for the majority of our time there until stopping by to settle our bill 1/2 way through our meal because they were cut. I mean, I know getting cut early is great, but can I please finish my middling meal before? I know it's an inconvenience for your nightly plans. Probably just a one night kind of thing. Very unimpressed. Food - 3.5/5 Nothing too spectacular. Interesting choices for a bar menu, though there are most definitely better places to get an Indian platter. Still, it's not a terrible way to spend a couple hours and drink some darn fine beers. We'll return, but belly-up at the bar for a better time with some good beer. read more

Awesome, laid back and fun place to share a few beers with friends! It's a diverse crowd and it creates a great atmosphere. They also have a nice patio and its always full especially when there's lots going on in Old Market Square (like the Fringe Festival in July). The pub has two floors and an extension. Bathrooms are okay...renovated but the stalls are really tiny! Great selection of beers on tap and a nice food menu as well! There's the usual appetizers, burgers and Indian dishes - all about $12 or less. The Indian food is delicious - if you like spice, get the lamb vindaloo. It is ridiculous HOT...I can take spice but this dish will kill your stomach. I can take a lot but I have not tried this dish a second time as it gave me major heart burn. LOL. The nachos are decent and pretty average. The beef burger is really good. The curry fries were gross and didn't even taste like curry so opt for the regular "chips". The chips were crispy and perfectly fried! Lots of pool tables and dart boards to amuse yourself. And the second floor has a small stage upstairs - I've seen bands and comedians up there on various nights. The bartender and servers are really funny and personable. Great place! read more

Visited this place while in town for work based on Yelp reviews are well as reviews from Rate Beer Places - I like to explore the local beer scene when I travel. Canada does not have much in the way of a beer scene in terms of craft brewing, at least not like the States. And they love their bland beers. In general, Canadian beers are like this: Pale Ale in Canada = Lager (or even a Pils) in the US IPA in Canada = Pale Ale in the US DIPA in Canada = IPA in the US For this place in particular, the service was fine, if not a bit odd. I sat at the bar as a solo diner, and the seats were at an awkward height in relationship to the bar itself - the seats were too low. It was like being a little kid at an adult table. The service from the bartender was okay, but he was distracted by something and it was hard to get his attention. I had vegetable curry, which was okay, but not great - standard for a pub I suppose. All in all it was a fine experience, just not an outstanding one. Beer selection was nice, though not much for an American looking for a hoppy IPA. read more

We were here around 8:30 for a later dinner and definitely over ordered. For the 3 of us, we had the nachos, soup, 1 lb wings, lamb vindaloo, mac n cheese with a salad, and curry fries... yes we were hungry when we sat down. It was Halloween wkd so the server had this wicked zombie like costume on. It was also pretty loud due to this annoying bridal shower party that kept yelling Marla...someone should have told them there was about a hundred other people in the restaurant. All in all the service was decent, they end table service at 10pm. The food... I don't eat meat so I can't attest to that stuff but my sister said the lamb vindaloo was super sweet and not spicy...i got vindaloo sauce on the side for my fries and it wasn't sweet and was super spicy so my sister said maybe to cover the taste of the lamb...she didn't enjoy it. Nachos, fries and mac n cheese were good. My mom's soup with garlic bread was also decent. We order two bourbons and my double came with a weird substance in the bottom, after telling me it was ice melting...when I didn't have ice in mine she switched it for me. We played some darts after in the upper floor after most people cleared up to go dancing on the 2nd floor. Good solid place in the Peg! read more

Food is awesome. I have been there twice and was pleasantly surprised each time. You should definitely try it.

Great atmosphere for those who prefer ye olde pub style type of hangout. Great music and vibes.

Great beer, great service. There customer based staff knows how to make you feel at home. Definitely going back again!!! 5stars

Kings Head Pub is always a good time. We went there Saturday at 10pm and the place was packed. There were no tables available at this time but there was lots of standing room available and the line up for the bar was short. The place is massive with two different levels and two separate areas as well - both of which were hosting birthday parties that eve. Upstairs is a bit darker and downstairs was surprisingly bright. The band started around 10:30pm on the second level and the rock was good! I imagine they would have a great selection of musicians taking to the stage. Cover was $3 so bring cash! read more

The King's Head Pub serves both Indian, American, and British food options. I've personally had the Bacon Mac n' Cheese, and the Fish n' Chips Lunch Special, and eaten here 3 times. Every time I've eaten here has been wonderful - the wait staff are friendly and knowledgeable, the food is hot and yummy, and they have a great selection of alcoholic beverages to choose from. The outdoor patio is spacious and has great seating. It's shaded with tree cover and umbrellas, and actually nice and quiet. I'm not usually an eat outside kind of person, but I thoroughly enjoyed eating on the patio at King's Head. Going back to the food: the Bacon Mac n' Cheese has to be the best restaurant-made Mac n' Cheese I've ever had. The noodles are cooked properly and aren't hard or too soft, the cheese is smooth and creamy with a bit of hard cheese sprinkled on top for some satisfying crunch, and the bacon isn't too crispy. It's served with a side of Caesar salad and garlic bread, and boy does it fill you up! The fish and chips was great for its price: the fish was crispy but not too greasy, and the fish inside wasn't layered with batter from undercooked breading. The special was $10, and with an Angry Orchard the bill came to a reasonable $20. The special came with a side of fries and a small bowl of soup. I will definitely recommend this establishment to others, and I encourage everyone to come at least try it. Keep in mind it is a PUB, so it could get loud and busy sometimes. read more

So first, I come here and they're understaffed so where I'm sitting doesn't have service and I have to order at the bar. Fine, no problem. Then I order bangers and mash, which I get in a reasonably timely matter, but what do you know it's 3 standard breakfast sausages not a quality sausage by any stretch of the imagination, some steamed vegetables, and some dry mashed potatoes. Not great. What's more is that they didn't bring me cutlery and there is no service so it was a bit of a challenge getting some which detracted from the feel even more. Better yet is when I asked for water I was told by the waitress 'water is the least of my worries right now' and wouldn't get me any. Well in North America that's kind of unacceptable. That's a deal breaker for this place. In summary disrespectful service, bad food. Except maybe the butter chicken but I didn't get a chance to try it. read more

If you're looking for an English pub downtown, this is it. Great big space, reasonable priced beers on tap and tasty tasty food. If you're really hungry, go when there's a buffet. I would give this place five stars but the only problem is that on Friday and Saturday nights, it gets crazy busy and there simply aren't enough bartenders working. An average of 5-6 minutes will pass before you catch the eye of one of the bartenders. If it's busy, I suggest ordering two beers at a time. read more

I wish we had a place like this in Edmonton. This is a gigantic, low-key, worn pub with friendly bartenders and a great selection of beers on tap, including four of the Half Pints brews and two from the Fort Garry Brewery. I also decided to try their Lamb Vindaloo despite warnings of immense heat. I love spicy food, but this was too hot for me. Unless you grew up in India, I would not recommend ordering it. The pub has a number of additional Indian and traditional English pub food options. There's a decent sized patio in the front. If you happen to be Downtown, you could do far worse than a night out at the King's Head. read more

This is the place to go downtown for drinks and entertainment when you just want to chill with some friends and actually be able to have a conversation. A multi-level pub with a pool table and stage on the second floor which features local bands, stand-up and improv. I've never had the food here but the last time I was there the server accidently brought a plate of nachos to our table and they looked good. (haha) On Saturday nights it can get pretty busy but it's usually possible to find a table. The bar will be packed and as a previous reviewer noted it can take awhile to get a round. One thing though, what was with the towel lady in the bathroom the last time I visited? It really doesn't seem fitting with the rest of atmosphere and I don't want to feel obliged to tip someone every time I have to use the washroom (which can become frequent as I sip my pints!) read more

Saw the match between Liverpool and Spurs here, great lively crowd, good friendly service. Very good soccer pub to see the game.

The King's Head Pub has it's up and down. During the lunch rush it's well worth to check out the Indian Buffet. Sometimes it could be a bit dry but the flavour is there. The rest of the menu is alright but nothing out of the ordinary of pub food. What it lacks makes up for a good selection of beer on tap. During some of the evening/late night they have live music in the upper section. This affects whether or not you have to pay a cover to get in. Beware when climbing the stairs there is a very strong stench of urine. As for service, I would choose lunch service over the evening service. During lunch if you go for the buffet you won't have an issue. During the evening there is the reoccurring sight of dozens of people clambering over the bar as 2 bartenders are trying their best to fill (or ignore) orders. Maybe it's a good place for a first date because it's so loud and you can avoid awkward conversations or conversations altogether and just cuddle up? read more

This really hip English Pub located in the Exchange District is first class. It has the great English Pub atmosphere with dart boards and all. There is also a nice outdoor patio where all the locals flock to after the long and harsh winter has ended. The service was good. The chips (with malt vinegar) were excellent. The chicken curry, butter chicken and Philly sandwich were very good. This is a better place to visit at night because it's usually jammed with local artists and patrons. read more

The King's Head is grungy and smells a bit like urine, but that's all part of the charm. It's a large space with lots of indoor tables, so finding a seat shouldn't be too difficult. We were there around 5:30 on a Friday and the place was hopping. We sent scouts to the bar to request menus and order food and drink - not sure if that's the normal system or if they were just too busy for table service. My cousin, who has been there many times, wasn't sure either, which may indicate that it depends entirely on how busy they are. They had Grasshopper on tap, so micro-ish, which always wins points with me. Food was good and came out in a reasonable time frame. My cousin had butter chicken (delicious) and I had lamb vindaloo. They are NOT fucking around when they say that the vindaloo is HOT! I live in Toronto, eat Indian food all the time, and have only had food too spicy for me on two occasions in my life. Until my meal at the King's Head. Now I've had food that's too spicy three times in my life. Tasty. But be warned. read more

Great place, pretty awesome Indian food, and close to the office so it's perfect for Happy Hours. Our table ordered more than 15 beers during HH and the bill was less than $70. Yep, good beer and curry as you'd expect a British pub to have. The butter chicken poutine didn't look too appetizing, but it sure was good. Believe them when they say the vindaloo is spicy. I am part Thai, so I eat pretty spicy food, but this was spicy by my standards. read more

Went here one evening during this year's Winnipeg Fringe Festival and was seriously disappointed! We sat on the patio and the only good thing about out meal was the people watching. Our server was cranky and refused to give my sister a simple stalk of celery for her Caesar saying "we don't garnish our drinks" as she walked away from us. Then we were presented with the saddest plate of nachos I've ever seen. There was an oil slick of what was probably microwaved cheese on top that totally made the chips soggy. To top it off, when we lifted the pool of cheese, it wasn't even melted underneath! Wish I'd taken a photo. When we sent the chips back so that the cheese could be melted our reward was that we got even more cheese added to the pool already on the nachos. Gross! This used to be one of our favourite places about ten years ago but we definitely won't be back! read more
