This place serves excellent comfort food and the vibe is pretty chill and easy going. The decorations are retro yet a bit trippy and artsy. Lots of musician memorabilia. They also have TVs where people can watch sports and other shows. My friend and I had a great time just talking and munching our food down. The ice tea tasted a bit weird but other than that everything was great! I loved my super cheesy Rigatoni Special dish. The pasta was well cooked and the 2 garlic bread slices were very satisfying because I haven't eaten that in a very long time. My friend really liked The Johnny's Poutine. No complaints from us! They have a lot of special deals that budget-minded folks like myself can take advantage of, the best one being the $10 steak and pasta combo every Thursday. For $10 plus tax, I had the 6oz top sirloin steak with fettucine alfredo and two pieces of garlic bread. I'm a huge sucker for butter for taste, and there was a lot in the fettucine. Regardless for $11.30 total, it was an amazing deal that was way beyond its value. Their menu has a whole host of other items aside from the special deals, and seems to be a mix between a pub and a sports bar. Chances are if you like some form of American/Canadian food, you'll find it here. Service was good despite the fast paced nature of this place. I asked the concierge in my hotel where I should have lunch. He recommended Johnny G's. It's a fairly big restaurant ... it has a pub section (where I sat) and a dining room in front. It has a big music theme. I ordered the Rockabilly Burger and fries ... mozzarrella cheese, bacon, tomatoes, pickles and burger sauce. There was a massive pile of shoestring fries. They were good but could have been hotter. I just had a few of them. I focused on the burger which was really good and hearty. Yum! Service is so-so ... not all that quick and indifferent. This restaurant is a family owned business. The interior was quite spacious. The service provided to our table was excellent. I had a large party and we were able to call in adavnace to book a reservation. The food was good for what you pay for. Very affordable and came in large portions. I tried some of the nachos and they were decent. I also had the chicken fingers and fries, which is $5 on Mondays. Their milkshakes were tasty as well. read more

This place rocks! Thais family own and operated restaurant bar and it is awesome. The walls are covered in images of famous music icons from past and present. It's clean, bright and fresh with a warm inviting appeal but you have to experience for yourself to know what I mean. We went there both nights that we were in town and they took really good care of us. The son of the owner was running the place and did an outstanding job at making us feel welcome and he was totally the reason for us coming back a second night. The drinks were made to perfection and there was never an empty glass in front of us. The food was out of this world good. I'd like to personally thank the staff for making our stay in Winnipeg a fun and memorable one. We'll definitely see you next time we're in town. Keep rocking it! read more

I stumbled (not literally) on this bar one Sunday evening around midnight. Apparently from the varied reviews, this establishment can be hit or miss, but based on my experience there, I will definitely be back! I had the mushroom and Swiss burger with poutine. It was excellent...and reasonably priced. The bartender was friendly and did a great job. Atmosphere was comfortable. The only minor gripe was the limited beer selection, but that didn't detract from the overall experience. read more

I get that the place is busy but I got fries that were all sorts of cooked, some raw some way over cooked, some fried to pieced. Clean and empty your fry bowl. My gums are literally scraped from the food they served. The chicken was way over fried and salted I get it's a job but take pride in what you do not mattering how busy it is. 10\10 wounldnt recommended rather eat mcdonalds. read more

I think this place doesn't get enough credit for what it is. ALL food items are made FRESH every morning - the pulled pork is slow roasted for 9 hours and pulled by hand, the burger meat is made and pressed with Johnny's own recepie, the top sirloin steaks are hand cut and weighed! All this good quality food for no more than 15.00, and you get ridiculous quantities. They make sure their customer is satisfied! I can go on and on, but try it yourself. 5 stars from me. read more

I placed an order to Johnny Gs. Came back to open their alfredo pasta, only to find the cream sauce was discolored. it looked green-ish, smelt sour and tasted rotten. A server confirmed that the pasta sauce is always pre-made. When I called back to make the complaint, the server had only said " enjoy your food" and then hung up. I have called in again to speak to a manager and was told "no one wants to do anything about it" Service is one thing but my main complaint is the taste of the food as this was not the first time. Previously before I have had bad food poisoning and couple times after that the food didn't taste right. This time I have ordered food for a couple people at work and they have also said their pastas are off and had to throw away their lunch. it seems to be only the Mcdermot location I notice with this problem. read more

I went here for the first time at the beginning of the week and had chicken fingers. They were great, although the honey dill sauce tasted kind of weird. I came back here yesterday and had one of the burgers and it was great! Big restaurant, big booths and not too many people. The only things I don't really like about is that it's kind of dark and the service wasn't the quickest. They waitresses are very friendly though! Very cheap! I would definitely recommend this place! I am from out of town but was here recently for a work event. The service was fantastic, food and drinks were great. The main reason for my review however, is that I left something behind while I was there and I'm so impressed at how kind they were and the efforts made to get it back to me. When I called the restaurant and Mina answered, she not only confirmed they had it but offered to mail it to me since I didn't live there. She was so nice and even called to confirm she had put it in the mail so I would know when to expect it. I know everyone is busy and while I didn't expect her to put in the effort, I'm so grateful she did. The atmosphere really wasn't for me, too dark and spacious. It felt the opposite of cozy, which I guess would be cold? Noise level is dependent on when u come in because they like to host karaoke and other group activities. They have a good selection of beers, better than average for a place that isn't dedicated to bartending. Also their chicken wings are WAY larger than usual so it's a damn good value to get yourself a plate of wings. Food was good. Decently priced. However the service we received was the worst we've ever experienced at a restaurant. There were two servers on site. And two other tables in the restaurant in addition to our own. So it was not busy by any means. My husband and friends went to the restaurant approximately 9:30pm on a Saturday. My friend & I joined shortly after. We waited for about 15 minutes for a server to acknowledge us and when the server came she took the guys orders & completely ignored that my friend & I were sitting there. When I finally got her attention she seemed irritated that I had ordered my drink. (Sorry for inconvenience!) When the food came, she threw the food on the table, slided the drinks along the table, then walked away. At no point did she return and ask how everything was, or if we needed anything. Only after we finished our meals and the empty plates sat there for 20mins or so did she return to ask if we wanted another round of drinks. When the drinks came, we received the same treatment of having our drinks 'tossed' to us. We told her we were ready for separate bills and she never returned. She simply disappeared from sight. We could have easily walked out without anyone even noticing. I had to wait at the bar for any signs of life before she popped out and I asked for the bill (for the second time). During this time, there was an elderly lady asking the other server if they had soup. The other sever said "no we don't have soup". Then the lady asked if they have sandwiches and the servers said (in a very condescending, cranky voice) "we don't have sandwiches, we just have what's on the menu!" and walked away from her. My friend then assisted the older lady with the menu as the staff had clearly abandoned her. Simply horrible. I feel strongly that additional training and coaching is needed for this staff. And Please show some respect for your customers & for your jobs! If you don't like your job, then don't bother going in. All it does is create a negative experience for everyone which we will continue to talk about. Wee Johnny's bar was a great time. Great service & live music! Will definitely be back. But as for the restaurant above it (Johnny G's), we will choose to dine elsewhere from now on. read more

This is a little hole in the wall, very small place with limited seating. The food is quite good. I ordered the cheese steak sandwich, I expected sliced up meat. What I received was an actual steak, cooked perfectly to my taste; topped with mushrooms, onions and peppers; loaded into a garlic baguette. It's nothing fancy, so don't expect too much. So you've been downtown dancing and drinking all night and you want a bite to eat. It's two in the morning, the bars have kicked you out and you're just starving. You could buy a hotdog from that dodgy stand outside the bar. You could wait until you get home, but there's no fun in that. Or you can trot on over to Johnny G's, because they're open until four, and pretty much smack in the middle of the nightclub district in the exchange. Sure, the rock and roll themed decor is kind of tacky, but the guitar shaped bar is actually a pretty impressive piece of woodwork). It's pretty standard fare, burgers, sandwiches and the like, (the chicken fingers are some of the best in town) but the prices are reasonable and the portions are huge. Of course, you could show up earlier, before the bar crowd descends on the place. While the margaritas are rather inconsistent depending on the bartender, they're still a gamble worth taking, especially on a warm summer evening out on the patio. I know that Johnny G's really isn't particularly inventive or challenging and the menu has hardly changed in the many years I've been dining there, but something keeps drawing me back. No one acknowledged that my friend and I were waiting at the door for a table until we asked and then they told us we had to keep waiting even though workers were just standing around. We did not have a server (I swear). We had one person who took our order, we had another bring us the meal and no one ever came back to check in. I had to ask for cutlery and ask for vinegar. I would've ordered another warm beer if someone had come back to ask if I wanted another drink. When I asked another random worker for a dessert menu, she said she didn't know if they had dessert then came back to our table to tell us they had no desserts that night. Really?? I guess they don't care about upselling. The food is just ok as well. BOOO. Will never be back again and I don't know how others go there. read more
