Great service in a crazy time. Nice to see some staff that are well adjusted in response to Covid19. Great food and came mid afternoon and was met with no wait time for a great outdoor table. Get happy hour specials. Really professional staff. did I mention free champagne flutes when we came in the door.

Ahi tuna club...I don't recommend!

This is another chain of restaurants much like Moxie's or Earl's. I prefer this one the least because of it's sad menu and lack of creative dishes. Ahi tuna club with fries: one look at the ahi tuna and I was skeptical. It was a bad gray color that made me think food poisoning. Upon cutting it, I did notice the pink meaty center that I'm used to. I could tell this is just a frozen patty because of its cut so I knew it wasn't fresh. The onion ring and tomato relish didn't work with the tuna. They didn't compliment the main attraction. I will say on the upside, the bun was nice and soft. The service is just a-ok. They served a cool water with no ice so it tasted funny. I didn't receive any refills either. Our waitress was nice enough and friendly but it doesn't make up for the poor food and service.

I like how they call this place "premium casual dining." It's premium in its decor and prices but has that Moxie's and Earl's bar like feel which gives it that "casual" feel. The menu is very random as it offers Asian items like sushi, butter chicken and then things like burgers, steaks, sandwiches and salads. Nothing is specifically good as the menu tries to be all things to all people. Ahi Tuna Tacos (11.99) for 4 appetizer sized tacos with a slice of seared rare in each taco along with coleslaw and wasabi aioli. yes, it's a complete rip off for 4 really tiny pieces of seared tuna when sushi places offer up much larger portions of seared tuna for that price. I am not even sure why I'd even eat seared tuna at a place like this but it's not overly greasy and is an okay "light" tasting appetizer. The tandorori chicken flatbread (14.49) was a bit underwhelming and overpriced as there was barely any toppings on this small flatbread. I don't mind the salads here and the original hi-rise burger ($12.49) is passable at that price. The fries are really crispy and well seasoned and the burger is ok. But really, if I wanted a salad or a burger, I'd probably have a few more places above Joey's on my list. This is the type of place that's good for late night eats or if you're out with a group as it does offer a variety of items to eat and drink. The dining side is good if you want to have a conversation but the lounge side is much louder.

Fries that looked like they would have come from McDonald's.

The Block & Blade Restaurant & Bar - Vodka Rose Penne

The Block & Blade Restaurant & Bar

3.5/5, +.5 for service…read more Went to Block and Blade for a friend's birthday party. We were part of a large group of about 20, and the server accommodated us very well. The restaurant is slightly upscale, with a wealth of food options at somewhat higher than average prices. I was torn between a few items, but I settled with a starter french onion soup and an entree of chicken tenders and fries. I've had lots of french onion soups in my life. This one was quite good; the gruyere cheese was plentiful and was gooey, which is how it should be. The chicken tenders were crispy with plenty of batter. The honey dill sauce is on the creamy side, which I didn't like as much but I can imagine others preferring the creaminess of the sauce. It won't be a place that'll be on my regular visit rotation due to location and price, but I'd definitely have this in my list of suggestions for a special occasion.

Don't bother going to this restaurant if you're alone and over 50 years old. You'll be ignored…read more On the four separate occasions, I went there on the way to a regular appointment. I had in the neighborhood. One time I sat at a table; one time I sat at the bar and a third time I saw it in a booth. On each occasion, I waited between 15 and 20 minutes for somebody to even come to the table. On two of the occasions, the food came before I had a set up at the table, and the server disappeared, leaving me with no cutlery and a meal rapidly getting colder. The first time this happened I contacted the restaurant management and said that rather than leave a bad review, I would like to speak to him about it. It obviously didn't help because the next three visits were just as disastrous.

Tip: Sirloin steak is our option here. It was yummy, but a bit on the tough side if you're ordering…read morea medium-well one. On my recent trip back to Winnipeg, I was craving steak. I had thought about going to The Keg for dinner. However, I wasn't feeling like spending a ton of money for a single meal, as yummy as any steak at this eatery is. I had just finished seeing a great movie at the Cineplex on McGillivray. I was ready for dinner. It was my birthday. The Keg was fairly close. I did a search for other steakhouses. I found Mr Mikes. It was new to me. I headed over to it. Mr Mikes wasn't difficult to find. It was a three-minute drive from Cineplex. It's located in a plaza across from Starbucks. I backed into an available parking spot and walked in. It didn't take long for a staffer to greet me. She asked me if I wanted a booth or a table. I went with the former and got a comfy one. Summer was my server. Summer in Winnipeg with Summer. Cool! I ordered water and a Diet Coke to start. Service was impeccable, as another staffer came by a few minutes later to ask if I needed anything. Mr Mikes is a franchise that hails from Vancouver. It was started by a couple of guys in Vancouver whose first name isn't Mike. I don't know the story behind the name. Anyway, like Earls, Mr Mikes has made its way eastbound. This location is the only one in Winnipeg. There are currently three locations in southwestern Ontario. The one in Kitchener is new. I'll need to visit it when I'm back in the Kitchener-Waterloo area. Mr Mikes is big on steaks and burgers. The dining experience was casual and laidback. I got these items: - Oscars sirloin lobster - Diet Coke The oscars sirloin lobster is the most bang for your buck. It features a seven-ounce sirloin with lobster and seafood on top, along with hollandaise. It comes with onion rings, veggies, and garlic mashed potatoes. This meal screamed my name. I got the sirloin medium-well. I drank my water and Diet Coke. Both were cold and refreshing. I got another Diet Coke refill during my visit. My food didn't take long to arrive. It was impressive considering that it was roughly 6:30 pm on a Thursday evening. I never know what to expect when the description says that veggies are a side. Would they be gross, like mushy squash? Nope! I got the most delicate asparagus. Yay! I will say that the sirloin was a bit difficult to cut through. I don't know if it was actually the meat or my knife. It was still yummy and seasoned well. I loved everything else. The lobster and seafood on top was delicious. This place didn't skimp on the seafood. There were lumps on lobster and shrimp. Excellent! The garlic mashed potatoes were comforting. They weren't super garlicky, but you knew that the garlic was there. I loved the asparagus. It was easy to cut and eat. They were lightly salted and cooked perfectly. The onion rings were enjoyable. They were crispy on the outside. The onion's natural sweetness came through each ring. The only downside was being asked how everything was tasting with a mouthful of food. It happens more to me in Winnipeg, which is something I don't miss. The question could have been timed better. It doesn't take much to look at someone's jaw to determine whether chewing is occurring. If the customer is chewing, maybe ask the question later if you're dying to know. Summer asked whether I had room for dessert after I had polished off my main. I didn't. This meal was filling and satisfying. I asked for the bill. I paid with a credit card. I tapped and tipped. Done! I used the washroom before I started my drive back to Steinbach. The women's washroom simply had She on the door with red lips. Cool! The washroom stall that I used was clean. The entire washroom was nicely maintained. I liked some of the images on the wall as I headed out the door: - Some of my best friends are vegan - Bad spellers of the world untie - I licked it so it's mine All relatable. Super fun and funny! I had a wonderful dinner here. Prices are decent and the food was yummy. (287)
