+.5 for service Went…read moreto Cafe Carlo for my birthday as I've been wanted to try this place for the longest time. I originally thought this would be a classy, upscale place. It was more upscale than a fast casual place, but it's not one of those places where it feels like you need to dress to impress...which is a good thing in my opinion. Cafe Carlo is famous for their fett chile, which is fettuccine with chicken, chorizo, cashews, and roasted red peppers with a chili cream sauce. It's their best dish, and the combination of fettuccine with the flavours is certainly unique. Warning though, it is on the spicy side. One of my friends had the gnocchi with pesto cream and found there to be too much pesto. The gnocchi was good though. For dessert I had the chocolate oblivion. Absolutely amazing cake, and they gave me a candle to boot too. You wouldn't believe that it's a flourless chocolate cake given the taste. Service was excellent here. Will definitely return to try the spag boo.

While clearly a nice restaurant, the atmosphere isn't pretentious at all. It's chill, people are friendly, and I was really impressed by how calm everyone seemed in the open kitchen. The menu I guess could be described as "New Canadian", and I'd say it's got something for everyone, but is focused enough not to overwhelm. We got three of the small plates to start with and share: the focaccia, the chorizo spiced tacos, and the roasted squash gnocchi. The tacos are actually made with soy curls (a soy-based protein that actually has the texture of chicken) flavored with chorizo spices. Our meat-eating (and meat-loving) parents who usually dislike tofu and any meat alternatives actually really liked the tacos. I tried some of the mole and it was so good that I ended up pouring some of the extra on the focaccia! The focaccia itself was pillowy and perfect with a unique and delicious strawberry infused whipped butter. The gnocchi was by far my favorite dish of the night. The contrast of the pillowy gnocchi to the pumpkin seed brittle, and the sweet squash to the savory mushroom xo, all make for delight and interest in every bite. For mains, I got the coconut korma with soy curls, and my dinner buddies got the house salads (one with chicken and one with soy curls) and the linguine with spinach creme sauce. Props to the kitchen for very satisfying portions on the large plates. We were all stuffed by the end and I actually needed a bit of help at the end to finish mine. The korma was delicious, with fragrant fluffy rice and flavorful soy protein. Everyone really enjoyed their dishes, and the only downside was that we were too stuffed to try and of the desserts, which sounded amazing. I'm not that particular about service in general, but when it's good, I can definitely notice, and the service here is really, really good. Our server, Karla (or Carla?) was so attentive, so helpful, kept us well hydrated, and paced everything out perfectly. Overall, our experience here was incredibly positive and would recommend!

Smoked fish on fried potatoes: this had a tomato coulis that overpowered all other flavors. The potato was soggy with oil. The restaurant Clementines does a similar dish but does it right Omelette-- good Beef hash ( what they tend to run out of) -- hearty portion, lovely beef with good seasoning, no green peppers is a BIG win, lots of kale, mushrooms, red pepper and onion, on a bed of home fries. The potatoes were soggy with too much oil but by the time we got to the bottom of the dish we were full anyway Decent coffee Ordered cheesecake to go on Valentine's Day They do not stop people from smoking right outside the entrance of the hotel which is annoying

The cauliflower fritters were insane. Truly delicious! The katsu tofu was good too. The broccolini had a wonderful char. My only complaint was it had too much rice and would do better with more veg. I had the seafood linguine, which came with a garlic toast. It was really good, though at a slightly elevated price. I would say for the north half of the city, this is the best upscale cuisine. However, I would rank this below Cafe Carlo and Tre Visi. Not to take away anything from here though, it's still a great place to dine. Service was excellent throughout here.

Much better lighting and seating options compared to the old location further down Main. The menu is pretty extensive, so there's options for everyone and because they cater to the business crowd, the food comes out quick. Be prepared to wait for lunch or supper as this popular spot gets busy! Staff is very friendly and service is excellent- just like it used to be at the old location. Lots of fun drink options and a great place for larger groups. If you're in Winnipeg, definitely sit on the patio for the limited summer they get. Parking isn't an option during the day so opt to walk or take transit unless you want to pay for a spot in a lot. Evenings are easier to park so you can easily walk over from some of the side streets. Connects to the business towers and all of the great underground shops of the Winnipeg Square.

My Medium-Rare steak came out Medium and was fairly tough - it's sirloin which already isn't a particularly tender cut. The tortellini had very little truffle flavor and instead had a bunch of sliced regular mushrooms.
