While clearly a nice restaurant, the atmosphere isn't pretentious at all. It's chill, people are friendly, and I was really impressed by how calm everyone seemed in the open kitchen. The menu I guess could be described as "New Canadian", and I'd say it's got something for everyone, but is focused enough not to overwhelm. We got three of the small plates to start with and share: the focaccia, the chorizo spiced tacos, and the roasted squash gnocchi. The tacos are actually made with soy curls (a soy-based protein that actually has the texture of chicken) flavored with chorizo spices. Our meat-eating (and meat-loving) parents who usually dislike tofu and any meat alternatives actually really liked the tacos. I tried some of the mole and it was so good that I ended up pouring some of the extra on the focaccia! The focaccia itself was pillowy and perfect with a unique and delicious strawberry infused whipped butter. The gnocchi was by far my favorite dish of the night. The contrast of the pillowy gnocchi to the pumpkin seed brittle, and the sweet squash to the savory mushroom xo, all make for delight and interest in every bite. For mains, I got the coconut korma with soy curls, and my dinner buddies got the house salads (one with chicken and one with soy curls) and the linguine with spinach creme sauce. Props to the kitchen for very satisfying portions on the large plates. We were all stuffed by the end and I actually needed a bit of help at the end to finish mine. The korma was delicious, with fragrant fluffy rice and flavorful soy protein. Everyone really enjoyed their dishes, and the only downside was that we were too stuffed to try and of the desserts, which sounded amazing. I'm not that particular about service in general, but when it's good, I can definitely notice, and the service here is really, really good. Our server, Karla (or Carla?) was so attentive, so helpful, kept us well hydrated, and paced everything out perfectly. Overall, our experience here was incredibly positive and would recommend!

My friend let me try one of his egg circle sandwich on cornbread and it was delicious. The chorizo had a spicy kick to it but the creamy sauce kept it from being too hot. Staff was very friendly and helpful, and the place was rather lively even on a Friday afternoon…read more In terms of the food we shared an order of poutine and their blackened chicken fettuccine. Poutine was decent - not the best I've had in town but not the worst. The portion was very small, and I was surprised to see it priced almost as much as an entree on the bill - they don't have it on the menu a la carte but you can upgrade a side of fries to poutine for $4. Since the pasta dish didn't normally come with fries I asked if they could just do a side of poutine and they said yes (and then charged $14 for it). It wasn't worth it. The blackened chicken fettuccine was disappointing. Our host highly recommended it, and it's a dish I generally enjoy enough I even make it at home. The blackening rub they use had almost no spice, which to me defeats part of the point of "blackened" chicken - the taste was more on the herby side. The noodles themselves were bland and the sauce was almost non-existent - sadly underseasoned. I chopped the chicken up into tiny bits and mixed it all together so that they flavors from the chicken could add at least some excitement to the pasta, but while it helped it didn't quite save the dish. Overall the experience was fairly mediocre. Maybe I should have gotten a burger, but I went with the host's recommendation instead for a dish I normally quite enjoy and came away disappointed. The price of the side of poutine is on me - I didn't ask ahead of time. But it came out to be nearly double what I'd expected for half as much as I'd thought it would be.

Greeting was very pleasant and they sat a group of 8 immediately. The waitperson was quite knowledgeable about local brews, and since I'm a local brew fan anywhere I go, opted for a double IPA that ended up being really good. Other folks had a single IPA, lagers, wine, etc. The menu is quite eclectic, with items ranging from the Filipino-infused Shanghai Lumpia, to soup and salad, to Philly Cheesesteak sandwich. I wasn't particularly hungry and I thought their "appetizer" menus would be small dishes, and treated ordering like tapas, asking for a small plate of lumpia and a small plate of chicken tenders.... Oh well.... I get an entire dinner plate of lumpia and a full basket of chicken tenders, French fries and vegetables.... I left stuffed. Service was superb. Even asking for separate checks for the entire party, our waitperson didn't flinch an eye. Superb service, great food and good company.

I opted for the bone-in rib steak & added lobster tail, twice baked potato & mushrooms on the side. The lobster tail was definitely the star of the show on the plate. The lobster meat was sweet enough, the butter wasn't even necessary. The rib steak was a bit too peppery for me and didn't have the marbling I usually find in this cut. The twice baked potato was good, and I can see how some people are a fan of it. I prefer thin mushroom slices and not the whole mushroom, but again, to each their own. A bit on the pricier side, so might be worth a try if you're around and want a bit nicer of a dinner.

I went here with a friend a couple weeks ago, as I was saying about how I wanted to try authentic Italian food. This place is an institution that's been around for over 20 years. It's not extremely upscale, but it's a comfortable dining environment. I went with the carbonara after I saw the ingredients in it. An authentic carbonara consists of spaghetti or linguine, guanciale, eggs, and a special kind of cheese. No cream, no milk, no garlic, no onions. This was exactly what I got with this carbonara, so I can confirm it's 100% authentic Italian. It was absolutely delicious, and the prices are very affordable for the quality and authenticity you get. I added a lemon meringue cheesecake. Pretty good, loved the design especially. Given the combined total of under $40 including tax and tips, this is very reasonable for an Italian dinner. Service is excellent. I'll definitely return.
