Patent 5 Distillery

Cool bar that distills their own vodka and gin in a space from the salvaged St. Regis Hotel. The…read morespace is on Alexander where it's part lounge/bar and part distillery. It's located in a slightly quiet area but despite walking there around 9 and leaving after 11 on a Saturday night there were no issues. No coffee, wines or beers here but there are non-alcoholic drinks and of course loads of cocktails. Most cocktails are $13 and they even offer old school punch bowls (recall the ones our parents owned) except these are smaller ones and need a min of two people for $15 each. Food was just a few cheeseboards - one is a vegan cheese board too. Loved all of the cocktails we tried: - Golden bird - patent 5 vodka, apple jack, golden apple syrup, green strawberry bitters, Malic acid - espresso martini - patent 5 vodka, dogwood neon espresso and Kahlua - Long Island gimlet - patent 5 gin, rum, tequila, house cola cordial, citric acid. This was my favourite - maybe because it has a lot of liquor. Service was laid back yet helpful. Vibe was relaxed and welcoming. Just people having a cocktail and a good time. No pretension. Loved it. I will be back!

A beautiful space in the historic exchange warehouse district nestled into a building that's easy to miss so it gives the feeling of a speak-easy when the giant garage doors aren't open into the street. There is free street parking after 530 but it's in a very walkable neighbourhood with transit nearby. The menu of original drinks is quite extensive and surprisingly reasonably priced for such carefully crafted concoctions ($10-$15 for most drinks). This place doesn't have beer (you can get that around the corner at Nonsuch) and it doesn't have wine. All it has is beautiful cocktails and small plates of food. The atmosphere is super romantic and dark so you'll need a flashlight at night to read the menu. There's really no complaints here but just a comment about the cheeseboard. At $26 it's slightly more than what Peasant Cookery and Smith charged but still a fairly decent amount of cheese. The only thing we would change is the crostini it comes with. It almost doesn't suit the fun cocktails so it would be nice to see them replace it with something thinner and not so hard.
