Flew in for a business trip. First time having the "Trash Panda" hazy IPA out of Vancouver BC. Delicious. Suggestions: grilled corn Guac followed by the Szechuan Tofu Lettuce Wraps. Decided last minute to go to Joey polo last minute for New Year's Eve. Had not been there in about a year but had always been one of my favourite. Absolutely disappointed in the food. Probably the toughest top sirloin I have ever had. 3 others at my table voiced the same opinion on the top sirloin. Then a super long hair inside one of the crispy potatoes. The manager response through the server ( not even in person) ..... Since most of the steak had been eaten, they would give us a free appetizer. Extremely disappointing. Been to eight of these Joey's across western Canada, and I've never been dissatisfied. In fact my expectations have always been exceeded. That's impressive for a chain. Salads, soups, fresh fish, steaks, and desserts are all excellent. The menu has so many good choices, but when in doubt, choose chicken. It never fails and remains my favorite pick at any Joey. This Winnipeg location is no different. Atmosphere at every location is elegant yet not stuffy. Staff is aways attentive and attractive and downright polite. My husband and I recently dined at Joey Polo Park. We are regulars at Joey, my husband was very disappointed that the steak he ordered was not at the usual Joey quality. My husband did let the waitress know and she said she would advise the manager of his disappointment. It did surprise us that the Manager did not come to our table to discuss the matter. My meal Oven Roasted cod was very good, the appetizer Chili chicken was great as usual. We hesitated over a dessert still kind of expecting a visit from the manager. She promised my last experience was not to their regular standard, and wanted to personally book me a new reservation so I came back and booked a table for my dad's birthday. My experience this time around was definitely better! As usual the servers are all very nice, very polite and approachable. This was my family's first time coming to JOEY Polo Park and they had an amazing time. The food got to our table very fast and it was delicious as well. I had a late lunch/early supper today at JOEY Polo Park and sat in the dining room. I ordered the Rotisserie Chicken (minus the veggies). I'd had it there last year and it was delicious and I wasn't disappointed today! There were two big pieces of chicken (a breast and a thigh) and it was sooooo tender. The potatoes were like homemade. I was let to JOEY Polo Park by a customer's choice. I was apprehensive at first, but ended up being pleasantly surprised. They have several options that are vegetarian friendly. I personally chose the veggie burger, which was delicious and was accompanied by a nice side salad. The downside - their beer selection is terrible. They had 1 or 2 local brews (even though there are several local breweries), and everything they did have was the exact same (light) style. Its never really summer weather in Winnipeg, so theres definitely never a reason for only having light beers on tap. Go for the food, service, and atmosphere. We needed a later evening Sunday small meal in Winnipeg and found Joey's on Yelp. After some confusion about sitting in the bar vs the dining room, we were seated in the dining room. We were told the happy hour menu was in effect and the server directed is to it on the table. We found exactly what we were craving and it was all delicious. I've eaten here many times for lunch, dinner, and just drinks/appys. I would say that the service is always pretty good. It's like Moxie's or Earls with a bit of a more global food offering. Appys are $7-$12. I like the "Ahi Tuna Tacos" ($10.49), it's a delicious light appy with 4 small tacos, each one has a slice of seared rare ahi tuna sitting on a bed of sesame ginger coleslaw with a wasabi-lime aioli. The cheeseburger sliders ($10.49) comes with three mini burgers that aren't really that dressed up...just processed cheese and a house sauce. The sliders were much more greasy than their hi-rise burger. I wouldn't order this again, nothing special at that price, just order the regular hi-rise burger with fries which is only $11.99. The dry ribs ($9.99) are good and taste like most dry ribs served all around the city - good taste of Chinese five spice. Salads are around $15-$17. Burgers/Sandwiches $12-$15. Bowls/Pastas $17. Fish, chicken and rib dishes $18-$22. Steaks $20-$32. Recently, I tried their new ahi tuna salad ($16.99) - seared ahi tuna slices served with avocado, radicchio, romaine lettuce, mango, orange zest, peanuts, cilantro, green onions, tomatoes and dressed with a wasabi lime sauce. This was a good salad but they could've skipped the radicchio as that left more of a bitterness on my palate. Otherwise, I liked the citrus notes in this light summer salad. It's not very substantial compared to the other salads they serve so it's good as a light lunch but if you're hungry, order something else too! "Viva Salad" (14.99) roasted chicken with sundried cranberries, avocado, apples and feta with a honey balsamic vinaigrette, garnished with cilantro. Delicious salad that can be a meal for one or an appy shared with another person. I like their "Ahi Tuna Club" ($14.99), seared tuna steak (rare) with bacon, lettuce, and onion ring. I take the onion ring out to eat separately, but otherwise, this is a great sandwich. I also love the fries here - the perfect size (slightly thicker than McD fries with a good crispy exterior without being too greasy). I loved their "rotisserie chicken" ($14.99 lunch & $18.99 dinner). When they make it right, it's super juicy and has a great spice rub to it. You get a half chicken so this makes for a very large lunch (had to take it to go) and a very substantial dinner. The difference is that the lunch portion provides only fries and coleslaw but dinner gets you mashed potatoes and vegetables - not sure if that justifies the $4 increase at dinner. I had a great juicy half chicken one time at lunch but for dinner on another occasion it was over seasoned/salty and kinda dry. A little hit and miss on this one. The "lobster ravioli" ($16.99) is surprisingly good. It's not a pure lobster ravioli as they stuff it with crab and shrimp too. But it's decent at that price cause with pure lobster ravioli, most places charge over $30 for that dish. This is a very rich creamy dish with ricotta and a lemon dill cream sauce. The servers are friendly and outgoing without seeming like they are trying too hard. There's always a huge line ups for dinners on the weekends. But considering they have the sun room, lounge and main dining room - waits aren't too bad. On a recent visit I noticed a few dirty items such as a lingering orange food stain on the outer portion of my tea mug. The stain wasn't close to where I was sipping from so I didn't make a bit deal but it was a bit off putting. Then I noticed that the cream bowl and the platter that the tea is served on had old coffee and other food stains on it. Obviously they reuse the platters and bowls, which is fine since I don't eat or drink off of it but it'd be nice if they took a quick glance to see if it's clean enough to serve again. This occurred on a pretty lazy Sunday afternoon so I'm surprised this happened. Oh well, I'm sure I've eaten more gross things that I didn't notice at all! read more

Everytime I come here I always get the Yellowfin Tuna Salad (Ahi Tuna Salad). I don't know what it is but it's a must for me. The flavours just go so well together with a little kick. We went during happy hour (for those who don't wanna break the bank), they have appetizers & drinks for a decent price since your entree is going to be $15+ so might as well save money on drinks/appetizers. Bellini is one of the best for me, I would say top 3 in the city. Service was also very good, she was very attentive and made sure everything was alright. I came here for lunch around 11:45am with some co-workers. Although a small line up at the front, the place was quite empty-ish. The servers was friendly, and I liked how he asked us if everyone on the salads, sandwiches etc was okay, as if substitutions or omissions can be easy to do. The food came quickly. I'd say less than 10 mins. we were finished lunch around 12:30pm. I suspect the menu was designed in that way. I got the Lobster Grilled Cheese. YUM. I saw it and was like "Done". Brie, Chedder and peices of lobster between two buttery toasts. Cocktail sauce on the side. Substituted salad for fries. The sandwich was REALLY good: a little small, but filling. I found i didn't really like dipping it in the cocktail sauce because it will overpower the flavours. You can actually taste lobster in the cheese. The salad was the Simple Greens, and was quite good with fennel, pecans, crasins, and a lemon poppy seed dressing. I'm going to copy this. My collegues has the Ahi Tuna club sandwich which looked really good. And the Beach salad (avacado, strawberries, lemon poppyseed dressing). The decor of the this makes the place a bit more upscale looking. Similar to Milestone's or Moxies. The prices I found a bit overpriced. $6.99 for fries (but you get about 2 handfuls) and $16.99 for my lobster sandwich. Entrees are about $18 - $22. I'm not a huge fan of these chain restaurants for the price vs quality of food ratio. Although the food is good, I feel like I'm paying for their overhead costs. I'd rather grab a more unique place on Osborne or something that costs about the same. read more

"Great Business Lunch Spot" Joeys has a few locations in various cities and its clear that they are not all equal. Joeys in Winnipeg is one of the best locations I have eaten at and its obvious since the place is packed at lunch time. They reserve only 20% of the restaurants and those reservations go early. However, if you get there at 11:45am, there's a good chance you'll get seated right away. If you get there at 12:15pm, there's a good chance you will have a 30 minute wait. The interior is warm and spacious with various seating options. The lounge and bar area have lots of seating with several TV's to catch the latest sports. The service from the hostess to the wait staff is excellent.....very friendly, not pushy and very patient. In the main dining room they have booths for 4 and booth/table combinations that are perfect for a business lunch when meeting new people for the first time. The menu has some interesting additions over the basic lounge/grill type menu including some sushi and my favorite lunch, a steak and sushi combination which comes with their Prime Cap steak and 6 rainbow rolls. The food was excellent and the service by our waitress Dana, was also top notch. My guests had a burger and salads and they both raved about them. The only disappointment you may experience is getting there late and having to wait 30 mins. However the bar area is a great place to have lunch and you will enjoy yourself just the same. read more

Overall we had a great lunch. Sitting on the patio with a nice summer breeze now that's the way to dine. We lucked in and got a great seat out there. I asked about reserving a seat outside and they said not a problem as long as it's not busy. Okay, so help me here, why else would I reserve.......... Anyway, the Butcher's sandwich (thinly sliced roast beef on a bun) was very good. I asked for med rare and the beef was perfect. I was very impressed both with how tender the beef was and the freshness of the bun. The Ahi tuna salad was also a hit. The tuna was beautiful and tender. Full of flavour. The pieces seem to be getting a little smaller but they give you a good number so that helps. Very good service, friendly and on point. I'll save up my pennies so we can go again :-).
