The Beef Mee-Krop was excellent! The meat was tender, the veggies were fresh and properly cooked...tender crisp, and there were lots of them. The noodles were crispy and soaked up the sauce as I ate. Having the option to choose the spice level (from 1-10) was nice. I chose 3 so I could start to feel some heat, and my wife chose 2 (not hot). Next time I'll have Chicken Mee-Krop and chose 4 (brave for me) The restaurant was clean and bright, the service was prompt and the prices were very reasonable for what you got. Will definitely share this with our spicy friends!

Yum, yum, yum! Don't let the location and the exterior fool you - the inside is packed with diners and the food is great! I've been looking for another Thai place to go to since Vanxai's on St. Mary's has been disappointing me in the last few visits. I haven't been back to Magic Thailand in years because the location isn't the most convenient. It is located in an industrial area and the exterior is not much to be desired but inside, the restaurant has been recently renovated. Nothing amazing, but it's warm, bright and inviting with lots of tables inside to seat couples to large groups. As with most Thai places you can order your food from a heat scale from 1-10. I have a high heat tolerance for spicy foods so here a 5 is true mid-range for someone who eats spicy food. I tried everything at a 5 as the other people eating with me didn't eat that spicy. Personally, I would order about a 7 for a real nice kick. For others who don't eat spicy, I would suggest a 2 or 3. The Thai Chicken Skewers ($8.50 for 3) and it comes with a spicy peanut sauce. Not my fave appy as it's just grilled chicken breast that didn't have much flavour on it's own so you have to rely on the peanut sauce which was very yum. For this price, I wouldn't order it again as I'd rather get another entree dish to share instead. I really liked their "pad thai" with shrimp which was $10.50 and it comes with a side of bean sprouts. At a level 5, the spiciness definitely came through so I'd keep this as a 5. Great flavour in the pad thai mix. The green coconut curry stir fry with chicken ($9.50) had lots of vegetables in the creamy coconut sauce. Not the best green curry I've had but it was good. At a level 5 spice, it was okay, I'd definitely up it to a 7 or 8 as the heat gets a bit lost in the sauce. The Matsaman - potato, onions, red peppers, basil, peanuts with chicken ($10.50) is a great dish if you like more peanut flavour and heartiness of potatoes. Food service is fast but table side service is okay as you kind of have to flag down people to get more things. Overall, great place for Thai food!

Rice Rolls with Shrimp at Magic Thailand

Everyone talks about Magic Thai! I had decided to witness it myself yesterday. Don't let the outside of the building fool ya. The inside was nice, it felt clean and refreshing. The restaurant itself is not huge and it does not take reservations so I do not recommend going there for a group greater than 6. I ordered rice rolls and green curry with beef for lunch. The rice rolls were quite similar to the summer rolls at Vietnamese restaurants, however, they used a different sauce in place of the hoisin sauce. They were alright. I probably wouldn't get that again. On the other hand, the green curry dish was delicious! I had it with a 2 on a spice level (out of 10) and it was the perfect amount. One thing I am surprised though is that the curry dish did not come with rice as it was at an extra cost so keep that in mind if you want rice with your curry! Overall, the service is alright. However, they do have great food. I would definitely come back again!

It was around 8 pm when the boy got hungry and really wanted Thai food so we started searching for what was open. On a Tuesday lateish dinner night, unfortunately most options were closed until we luckily found this spot! Ended up trying the Tom Kha Soup - which was delicious, creamy with the coconut milk & plentiful with the veggies. Overall, the soup was great & came in a good portion. We also tried the Basil Fried rice with vegetables, and this was delicious as well. There were lots of veggies here but what I really liked was that the flavor of the rice was light but very tasty. Would recommend one to check this place out!

We had questions and he was patient and attentive. He answered our questions politely and cheerfully. The server was also earnest and brought out more water when we asked for more. The seafood pad Thai was tasty and very sweet. Maybe a little bit too sweet. I also wish there were a bit more shrimps in the dish. I love that the cashier asked us how spicy should he make the food. I said not spicy at all and my friend said 6 out of 10 spicyness level. The Thai ice tea was a bit too sugary. I got a sugar high from it lol. I would give this restaurant 5 stars but the inside of the building where we were seated had no air conditioning. A fan was all that was there. The outside air was colder than the inside of the restaurant were we were. We ended up sweating a bit. It was uncomfortable for my friend who was also eating a spicy meal. The inside decor of the restaurant wasn't super interesting but it was not shabby.

After much research, we decided to give Vanxai's a try. We ordered the following dishes: * Spring Rolls * Papaya Salad (spice level 3) * Shrimp Pad Thai * Green Curry w/ Chicken We enjoyed the papaya salad, which had the perfect amount of heat at level 3 (their spice scale ranges from 1-5 with level 3 being hot and level 5 is inferno). The green curry was also quite good with an abundance of fresh vegetables in it, including onions, green beans, red bell peppers, broccoli, and bamboo shoots. The shrimp pad thai was delicious, though it could have used a squeeze of fresh lime juice to help brighten and enhance the flavour of the dish. The spring rolls were filled with vegetables and vermicelli noodles and was served with sweet chili sauce. We both thought it could have used a bit more seasoning if eaten on its own without the sweet chili sauce. Overall, we enjoyed the food here and will be making this our go-to Laos Thai restaurant.

Fancying…read moremostly restaurants off the Yonge Street area, I was under the impression that I was going to be served ingredients consisting of fresh mango, lemon grass, lettuce wraps, etc. Having visited the Peg and craving some authentic Thai food, my fellow Fudie suggested we try the Lao Thai Restaurant. Located in a neighborhood in the St. Anne's area, it was clear that the outside of the restaurant was a bit antiquated. However, when I walked in I was pleasantly surprised. The restaurant was clean and bright. The ambiance was fair and comfortable. Water glasses were large and the liquid was cold on fresh ice. The server was quite knowledgeable, friendly and courteous. He asked me what my level of spicey/heat tolerance was and I bragged that in College (down in the U.S.) I was known as the "Spice King". The Spice King he questioned? Yes, I responded noting that while I was attending a four-year college, I was able to withstand some of the hottest habanero salsas at a local eatery off the University campus. He commented that I would then enjoy the '3' level of spicey. Here is what we ordered: Souk-Gai - a deliciously fragrant soup with great flavors of cilantro and ginger and sliced chicken. A very spicy soup, charged with a very able helping of chili flakes and special seasoning. Kua-Som-Yum - A mix of shrimp, cauliflower, red peppers and onion in a thin red sauce. The shrimps were cooked perfectly but the veggies probably needed to be cook more thoroughly. I really enjoyed this dish and felt it was nicely peppered. I should let you know that this was a '3' level of spice. Gang-Keo - a chicken in green curry and coconut milk with onions, green beans, broccoli and red peppers. This was way too hot for me. It overwhelmed the underlying flavors of the dish and wasn't as enjoyable. Again, we had the '3', but I would recommend a '1' or '2' level. Bottom Line: This Spice King gives Lao Thai the Royal Assent.

I ordered the salad rolls with pork and shrimp...structurally very substantial in size and full of stuff. One could just order a few of these and have a nice filling meal. That said, the peanut sauce wasn't particularly creamy or pea-nutty. The pho is served in a moderately size bowl, but they didn't offer a lot of sprouts or basil. The salad roll had basil as a garnish and I put them into the pho. Also, there wasn't a lot of depth of flavor in the soup base itself...it wasn't watery just bland. Lastly I order the crepe sweet potato and shrimp. To describe this as a "crepe" has never had a crepe (made in the French tradition). It's not at all pancake like and more like a hash brown with shrimp. It was good and crispy but not at all what I expect. The restaurant has amazing ambience, kudos to the decor...with a wall length mural of a peacock and hanging paper lanterns...the restaurant looks exotic. Lastly, service was also just ok, not special or fast. Also, I got my entire order all at once, which I hate especially since I like having Pho hot. When one gets everything at once stuff gets cold! The cooks have no sense of timing (seemingly) and are more concerned about getting the order out. Overall, it's a beautiful restaurant full of charm with ok food and care for the customer. If you're not as exacting as I am about Pho and dining out in general...you may like it...the food is certainly filling.

I'd definitely be careful in requesting spicy level here, as level 3 was already quite spicy for someone with medium spice tolerance. The noodles were good, however the sauce was quite diluted.
