Magic Thai makes good food that's just different than most Thai flavors I've had. That's not a bad thing, but it's not an inventive flavor I enjoyed more. The pad Thai uses very thin noodles and is extremely thick. It tastes very much peanut like and homogeneous in flavor without a ton of balance. Their spice levels run from 1-10, but even a 5 is spicy for most people. If you REALLY like spice then opt for a 6 and add spice from the side. Parking is free and on the side street. read more

Traveler here. I am not sure if there's a certain way they make Thai food on this restaurant but even i have travelled across the globe Pad Thai has one taste or atleast eatable regardless of the color and consistency. Let me tell you... This is one of the most INEDIBLE ive had in my lifetime. I chose this place because of the recent good review that someone had put in there. We ordered food close to $130 worth and all most of their food tasted like soy sauce. At least they did not mess up the fresh veg rolls with shrimp and Panang is 6/10. The rest is just not worth to make your tummy spend the day having bad stomach ache which we all did. And please do check the bathroom its really unsanitary. They are very nice people eventhough they didnt care what we had to say when we have told them about the food and it tasted too salty and not good. We barely touched it and we just payed the bill and left. All i can say if you have good experiences with real authentic and savoury Thai food this is not the place to go. 2/10 read more

The Beef Mee-Krop was excellent! The meat was tender, the veggies were fresh and properly cooked...tender crisp, and there were lots of them. The noodles were crispy and soaked up the sauce as I ate. Having the option to choose the spice level (from 1-10) was nice. I chose 3 so I could start to feel some heat, and my wife chose 2 (not hot). Next time I'll have Chicken Mee-Krop and chose 4 (brave for me) The restaurant was clean and bright, the service was prompt and the prices were very reasonable for what you got. +.5 for service A bit of a letdown considering the hype behind this place. Magic Thailand is located in a rather industrial neighbourhood just north of downtown. It's not a place I would hang out at night in my opinion...you can get quite isolated there. The exterior also screams sketchy, but the interior was decorated really well. The menu isn't as extensive as other Thai restaurants, but it covers your typical Thai staples. I had the pad thai; my typical go-to for Thai places. The food came out quite fast, which surprised me as it was a busy lunch hour. The presentation was definitely there, as the photos posted already show. The taste was also there, however one big oopsie...the noodles were severely overcooked. I have never had a pad thai where the noodles broke apart too easily to the point where twirling the noodles with a fork was not an option. Service was excellent, and the family-run business certainly made you feel welcome. However I hope the overcooked noodles were a one-off incident...cause right now unless I'm dragged here by someone, I won't be returning for the time being. Lunch for 2 of us. Ordered. And food appeared in about 15 mins. Had Pat Nut ( cashew with vegetables ). No heat----Delicious! Friend ordered Lemongrass dish with level 7 heat. Also delicious. Service and prices were reasonable. Looks like dining area has been updated. Comfortable and clean table and chair seating. Place looks better inside than outside. Yum, yum, yum! Don't let the location and the exterior fool you - the inside is packed with diners and the food is great! I've been looking for another Thai place to go to since Vanxai's on St. Mary's has been disappointing me in the last few visits. I haven't been back to Magic Thailand in years because the location isn't the most convenient. It is located in an industrial area and the exterior is not much to be desired but inside, the restaurant has been recently renovated. Nothing amazing, but it's warm, bright and inviting with lots of tables inside to seat couples to large groups. As with most Thai places you can order your food from a heat scale from 1-10. I have a high heat tolerance for spicy foods so here a 5 is true mid-range for someone who eats spicy food. I tried everything at a 5 as the other people eating with me didn't eat that spicy. Personally, I would order about a 7 for a real nice kick. For others who don't eat spicy, I would suggest a 2 or 3. The Thai Chicken Skewers ($8.50 for 3) and it comes with a spicy peanut sauce. Not my fave appy as it's just grilled chicken breast that didn't have much flavour on it's own so you have to rely on the peanut sauce which was very yum. For this price, I wouldn't order it again as I'd rather get another entree dish to share instead. I really liked their "pad thai" with shrimp which was $10.50 and it comes with a side of bean sprouts. At a level 5, the spiciness definitely came through so I'd keep this as a 5. Great flavour in the pad thai mix. The green coconut curry stir fry with chicken ($9.50) had lots of vegetables in the creamy coconut sauce. Not the best green curry I've had but it was good. At a level 5 spice, it was okay, I'd definitely up it to a 7 or 8 as the heat gets a bit lost in the sauce. The Matsaman - potato, onions, red peppers, basil, peanuts with chicken ($10.50) is a great dish if you like more peanut flavour and heartiness of potatoes. Food service is fast but table side service is okay as you kind of have to flag down people to get more things. Overall, great place for Thai food! read more

Tasty & Authentic Thai Food! Magic Thailand is a hole-in-the-wall restaurant serving authentic and tasty Thai cuisine in a simple and casual atmosphere. The restaurant is located in an industrial neighbourhood along Logan Avenue, but don't be put off by the unassuming exterior. Although the interior is small, it feels cozy, vibrant and full of life. I ate lunch at this restaurant on February 29th. The menu offered a wide variety of traditional Thai dishes, desserts and beverages. I ordered the Pad Thai dish with tofu with a spiciness level of 2 (you can choose your spice level on a scale from 1-10). The Pad Thai was delicious and well-prepared. I really enjoyed the sauce, the side serving of bean sprouts and the crumbled peanuts on top of the noodles. The service was prompt and friendly and despite the fact that the restaurant was very busy during my visit, I was pleasantly surprised at how fast my meal was delivered to me after ordering. I recommend Magic Thailand for those looking for authentic Thai food in Winnipeg. This restaurant is definitely worth eating at! read more

First visit and definitely not the last! Joined a few friends for a beer and a bite. Enjoyed a bottle of Singha to start, ordered an appy of the lettuce rolls (yeah for the pile of fresh chili and belachan!) which were fun to make and even more fun to eat. Sauce that was served with was not too sweet and complimented the rolls wonderfully. The vermicelli served with the rolls (on a massive silver platter which took up a lot of table real estate I might add) was perfectly cooked. Next up was a Massuman Curry with beef and potatoes. I'd ordered both of my items on a 7/10 level of spiciness and could have easily gone up a few notches - that being said, the curry was wonderfully spiced, just a nice warm heat with soft cooked potatoes. The portioning was incredibly generous and I would have easily paid twice for the amount of food that was given. My friends (one of whom was Vegetarian) ordered the Apple Salad to start, with a red chicken curry and the portions were so much that she only finished half! The Vegetarian order included rice rolls and a main of fried vermicelli topped with baby bok choi and peanut sauce. I swear the dish was as big as my head, and required a spoon to break it up into serving size. Yay for yummy leftovers!! We chatted up the owner, who said her son had another restaurant in the city called Sabai Thai (on Corydon, Winnipeg), additionally her brother owns a restaurant in Surrey, BC called "Full Moon Laos & Thai restaurant" on King George Hwy....Cannot wait to try it!! read more

Had lunch here on a Friday in July 2016. Tom yum soup was wayyyy too salty. It's supposed to be sweet and savoury. Pad Thai was good but lacking Thai basil seasoning. Rice rolls were a bit bland, but the dipping sauce saved it. Friendly service, but a bit slow. read more

A group of 6 of us ordered: Green Curry Udon (with Tofu) - 5 on the spicy scale Pad Thai (With Tofu) - 5 spice on the spicy scale Matsaman (With Beef) - 5 on the spicy scale Green Curry Soup - 5 on the spicy scale Ginger Stir-Fry (Pat Keeng Puck) with Tofu - 5 on the spicy scale "New Dish" - 4 on the spicy scale - I can't remember the name, but it was basically mixed vegetables and shrimp Jasmine Rice Of those dishes, the Green Curry Udon was by far the best. Then the Pad Thai, which was extremely flavourful, and the Green Curry Soup. The rest of the dishes didn't stand out from the crowd of similar dishes in other Thai restaurants around Winnipeg. But that Pad Thai, and that Green Curry...mmmm...they were exceptional. I don't know what it was, but they were a class onto themselves. Each dish was about 10-12$ which gets you a large amount of food (enough to make a hungry person like me about 85% full). So if you end up at Magic Thailand you are in safe hands. read more

This place is the best thai food I've ever had! The rice noodle soup is to die for...tons of veggies, noodles and the spice is just right and you can make it hotter if you'd like. I like to get it at a 2 myself. My fav item on the menu is the crab rangoon. I've had crab rangoon at many other places and NONE are done as good at the ones at Magic Thailand. The pad thai is also awesome and I love the peanut sauce and stuffed chicken wings...I could go on and on about how good the food is here but you're just gonna have to try it for yourself! read more

Glad we decided to give the Magic T a try but not sure if we would go back. The service was pleasant and there were a couple of excellent dishes, but there were a few things that fell short of expectations. First off, the service is quick, the food is hot although they have to be among the smallest portions we've received at a Thai venue. The big hit of the night was the coconut soup. We would definitely come back just for that dish alone but only that dish. The papaya salad was ok although as mentioned, a rather smallish portion. The tofu stir fry was unremarkable. The curries were tasty but very small portions. The green chicken curry, at a spice level of 7 was fine. The red chicken curry was also fine, but it was ordered at a spice level 10 and was notably tamer than the green curry at a 7. We mentioned this and basically did not receive a response. So a pleasant evening, ok food but small portions for the price paid. read more

Everyone talks about Magic Thai! I had decided to witness it myself yesterday. Don't let the outside of the building fool ya. The inside was nice, it felt clean and refreshing. The restaurant itself is not huge and it does not take reservations so I do not recommend going there for a group greater than 6. I ordered rice rolls and green curry with beef for lunch. The rice rolls were quite similar to the summer rolls at Vietnamese restaurants, however, they used a different sauce in place of the hoisin sauce. They were alright. I probably wouldn't get that again. On the other hand, the green curry dish was delicious! I had it with a 2 on a spice level (out of 10) and it was the perfect amount. One thing I am surprised though is that the curry dish did not come with rice as it was at an extra cost so keep that in mind if you want rice with your curry! Overall, the service is alright. However, they do have great food. I would definitely come back again! read more

I've been here a couple times before and every time I'm always satisfied with my meal. This is one place I sometimes forget about, but think it's one of the hidden gems around the city. First off, the spice scale here is definitely spicier than the other Thai place around the city. This place goes from 1 - 10 and getting a 4 here felt like a 6 at other places, so just be cautious of that. The crab ragoon is very good here, so I for sure recommend trying this dish as a starter. The curried eggplant was good, I didn't get that strong eggplant taste that I usually get when other places make this similar dish which was nice. I forget what the noodle dish was called, but it was also good. Had a nice sweetness to it, not overwhelming at all it helped balance it all out. The shrimp fried rice was also pretty good, nice flavours and big shrimp. Ended this meal off with the fried banana with ice cream for dessert, and I wasn't too crazy about this dish here. But overall I really like this place because the food is flavourful and tasty. Worth trying for sure. read more

this place used to be a staple for us , but we had not been back for at least 18 months. Went there today and was greatly disappointed. The portions have shrunk by at least 1/2, and there was so little chicken in the pad nut we had to search for it. The sauces were way too salty and the flavour was just not there.
