Gord and I had supper at Shannon's Irish Pub (Carlton/St. Mary) tonight. It's in the basement. It was pretty quiet when we got there. We ordered a couple baskets of wings ... lemon pepper and salt and pepper. The lemon pepper wings were good but the salt and pepper ones were REALLY salty and peppery. Karaoke started around 10pm and the place filled up ... karaoke was popular! Some of the singers were really good ... others weren't good at all but I imagine were having fun. It was fun to watc

This place is really interesting because it's spacious but with small corners and pockets of intimate eating spaces. On St Patrick's Day this place was packed with families and kids. Single and coupled adults. It was a diverse bunch! They served green beer which was pretty fun! It's a bit strange to me to see kids at a pub after 8pm but maybe that's just how chill and family friendly this place is. St Patrick's Day is also a special day. The waitresses were really nice and the communication between customers and staff was impressive during this busy event. The waitresses would go from table to table checking in on everyone and making sure the drinks were refilled and relaying messages about the status of the alcohol situation at the bar and where the food was etc. The bar was very busy because this place was a full house! I was lucky enough to get a small glass of Bailey's Irish liquor. It was delicious! Then I ate a Beyond Vegetarian Burger that was so appealing because it tasted like sausage or some sort of meat. I even asked the waitress if the patty was made of meat and she told me not to worry because it was not. The fake meat patty burger was known to be that exquisite. Pretty amazing! The sweet potato fries were also delectable.

Way to crowded on Tuesdays

Use to be good on Tuesday, 2.50 tequila but it's way to popular now, started charging cover, nothing more than a bar with karaoke and cheap tequila

Seems like a fun place. Nice staff and good beer selection. But what's with the 14oz glasses? At least they are only $5.

I would have given this place 5 stars but they replaced the dart board area with gambling machines and that made me sad because I love playing darts, it's addicting too. I ordered the Irish Nachos and I didn't know it was going to show up in a extra big basket with so much food! So much cheesy, deliciously adorned with bacon bits and more potato chips. I love this appetizer for a group. My friend tried some kind of sandwich with a soup dip. Maybe a beef French onion kind of meal, I forgot to ask him the exact name. He liked it though. This place has 2 main pool tables and it was pretty cool to play pool with my friend. This place also has a lot of televisions and a lot of people were cheering different sports games and teams. The waitresses seem pretty nice. Honestly this place is definitely worth checking out.

My final experience consisted of someone telling me to get out of the seat I was sitting in. Turned out it was the owner's son, who later forced management to give up the spot I had sat in long before the owner's son and his obnoxious friends even walked in. Let's just say I asked for the bill and left... and won't ever return. Plus the food isn't even good quality.

The server claimed the bill was "fake" because of how it "felt." No objective verification was provided. The owner later defended the treatment by saying the VLT rejected the bill and that "VLTs do not accept counterfeit bills." **Except another VLT subsequently accepted the exact same $5 bill.** That makes the explanation even more troubling. If the bill had not actually been established as counterfeit, why was my Indigenous husband immediately treated as though he was attempting to use fake currency? This is why I raised racial profiling. Discrimination does not have to involve someone openly admitting racial prejudice. My concern is whether an assumption was made about my husband, and whether he would have been treated with the same suspicion had he not been visibly Indigenous. The owner's response was simply to declare that "there is no discrimination." That is not an investigation and it does not address my concern. I replied asking him to explain the objective basis for dismissing the discrimination complaint. He has not responded. We left feeling racially profiled, stereotyped and humiliated. What makes this worse is the owner's unwillingness to seriously engage with a discrimination concern after it was brought directly to his attention. Indigenous customers deserve to be treated with the same dignity and benefit of the doubt as everyone else. On top of this, the service was already terrible to begin with. Super slow and having to repeatedly ask for service.

My husband and I had the Friday night special that was the Mug, Spud and Steak. They cooked the steaks to perfection and were delicious! I had fries and corn as my sides, the fries were homemade and fantastic. My husband had the baked potato and corn. One thing we were disappointed by was that there were no fixings for the baked potato. We will for sure go back for that damn good steak for $14.99 despite the slow service. The only thing they need to work on is their servers but we were a large group and likely that was the issue. I should note that everyone that I talked with left very satisfied with their meals, and the plates I saw coming out all looked delicious. Price was reasonable and portions were perfect size.

It's a typical dive bar that's welcoming to all, as shown by some of the decorations inside. Even the washrooms scream social activism, which is kinda cool to be honest. I had the yellow dog platter without the jalapenos (not a jalapenos person inside hot dogs). It came with a soup of the day, which was a beef barley soup. The soup was amazingly good. The hot dog was also quite good. I do agree with Jennyfer A.'s comment in that the sauce was lacking, so I did drop a star there. Portion wise it was perfect for someone who was 75% hungry. Service was excellent here. Will definitely return whenever I'm in downtown and am looking for food nearby!

Located on the main drag, this cozy pub serves as one of the popular locations to grab a few drinks with your mates or dine in for a quick lunch with co-workers, and dinner with your family with more drinks in the evening. In the summer months they open up a small area on the sidewalk for your outdoor dining enjoyment. Right when you walk in, you have the bartender mixing drinks and tending to the few occupied stools at the counter and those playing darts. The hostess will gladly seat you at one of the tables along the windows or booths along the far wall in their restaurant "section". I use " " because the restaurant portion for this pub, for all ages, forms an L-shaped seating plan. The 18+ section is separated by a short black iron fence in the middle that holds a few more tables and larger booths. Sawney Beans is like any other pub with their weekday Pub Grub specials. One of the favorites is Tuesday for Pub Poutinerie Night - How Canadian of them ;) Another favorite are the Irish Nachos (Waffle fries, loaded with tomatoes, jalapenos, green onions and cheese with the option of adding chicken or beef for an extra charge) It's a small kitchen so they have a lunch menu that changes at 5pm for dinner. The lunch menu is small and not really British authentic but when i'm craving their delicious Chicken Quesadillas, this is the time to get them. Their dinner menu features more British Pub eating with titles like: - Bangers and Mash - Roast Beef dinner with Yorkshire Puddings - Shepherd's Pie - London's Burning Burger (ok not authentic but still yummy with a little heat) For a sweet tooth my favorite is: - Sticky Toffee Pudding with vanilla ice cream Another interesting option would be their deep fried Mars bar The bar serves up a variety of British ales as well as some domestic bottles. There's a decent wine list and a variety of British mixed cocktails and ciders. My personal favorite - Cider and Blackcurrent (Floundry Cider with a shot of Blackcurrent cordial) Two glasses in and I'm walking home feeling warm and tingly from my head to my toes! Steinbach, once a dry town, has succumbed to the British invasion and given the residents and surrounding communities a great place to eat and wet their whistles.
