Without question, Winnipeg's best Chinese restaurant and a real hidden gem. With two separate menus, over 5 pages each for both vegetarians and meat eaters. Ridiculously friendly staff and convenient parking in the evenings. My wife and I come here about twice a month at least. Yes, they do remember you. Even right down to our customizations to the orders! I will tell you the one thing that nobody realizes makes a good Asian restaurant: CONSISTENCY. Wow this place is a gem. Cute on the inside and practical. The gentleman was very helpful and made some great recommendations. The spicy deep fried chicken was so crispy with a good kick, but not overpowering. The chow mein was delicious as well. Came here to satisfy my craving for Chinese food. Parking is available in the front, as well as on the side streets. The inside is super-dated, and a bit beaten up. Typical diner decor. You can probably host a giant part up to 30 people here, though I'm not sure why you'd want to. They have $6 lunch specials on weekdays. This is what I really like about such diners. The value is always excellent. I had the lemon chicken combo, which included the items below: Wonton soup - straight up pork. Some shrimp or something else would've been nice. Typical soup but the wontons were a bit on the salty side. Lemon chicken - 4 large pieces, in really tasty batter. Covered in sesame seeds. Excellent portion size. Beef stir fry chop suey - tastes exactly as it sounds. Mostly cabbage and broccoli. Tasted plain but not bland. Plain fried rice - again, tastes exactly as it sounds. Looks like they use soy as flavouring. I left stuffed. Not sure if I'd come here everyday, but this place definitely fits under "cheap and tasty". read more

I'm in Winnipeg for work and googled food nearby. This place has great reviews so I took a chance. Great lunch spot and amazing price! $6.95 for the lunch special. It comes with a choice of wonton soup or a rice soup, main dish (Wed was shrimp or honey garlic chicken), fried rice & veggies. It was tasty and filling! The service was friendly. Only issue was I was asked what I wanted to order as soon as I was seated. Didn't get a chance to see what was offered. I'm assuming they have regulars here who know the lunch specials. But other than that service was great and the food came out quickly. This is great for those who have to get back to work! The place is a little run down but all in all a thumbs up! read more

This is my favourite restaurant for Vegan food in Winnipeg. It has a fully Vegan menu alongside their regular menu. The best "compromise" restaurant in town!! Spring Roll is AMAZING, this restaurant has been around for years, different owners but same awesome food. Used to go there for lunch when I was in high school, food was delicious and reasonably priced and was there Friday evening and food is still just as delicious and reasonably priced. Hadn't been to Spring Roll in probably 10 years, which is too bad. Many lunch specials under $8.00, all look great. Ginger chicken was delicious. 4 pieces of chicken plus fried rice, mixed vegetables and an opening wonton soup. Big plate, big value. Hope it isn't 10 years before I go back. read more

Spring Roll food is delicious and served in generous quantities: excellent value. We order exclusively from the very extensive vegetarian menu, which has virtually every meat dish brilliantly replicated for vegans. The Vegetarian Jumbo Breaded Shrimp (#162), for example, are amazing - our guests once thought we had mistakenly received real shrimp. The Vegetarian Moo Shi (#112) is far and away the best in town - but there's so much of it you should plan to order extra pancakes beyond the four included. We haven't eaten pork or veal in years, but the Vegetarian BBQ Pork (#138) and the Dry-Breaded Vegetarian Veal (#148) are better than we remember the "real thing" to be. We also recommend the spicy peanut noodle soup (#107), which has layers, so you should dig down with the serving-spoon. But really, just about everything is excellent, and you can request reduced salt for many dishes. The noodles are apparently house-made, which explains their perfect texture. We have, on some occasions, found the breading on the Vegetarian Filet (#141) to be a little too hard/crunchy for some tastes. This resto is family owned and run, and the service is very friendly and personal. (Ask the owners about their new grand-child!) The entire effort is put into the food alone, so the ambience is greasy spoon at best; the room is quite cold during winter; and it's probably not conducive to up-scale celebrations (otherwise I'd give it 5 stars, no question). But no matter: price and quantity can't be beat and the packaging, labelling, and boxing of take-out dishes is meticulous, so if you need to impress a table-full of guests, the highly efficient take-out from Spring Roll is the way to go. This is really one of a very few places we keep coming back to. read more
