From my recent visit to this business, it was very obvious that they do not welcome everyone. They were offensive and condescending. Very hostile workplace attitude. Prejudiced toward people different from them. Very judgmental and borderline unhinged toward certain customers. Avoid this place and support local Thomas WV businesses that want to serve everyone and that fully comply with the letter and spirit of the civil rights law requiring public accommodations to welcome everyone. I love this place. I love Thomas, WV for that matter. It's the cutest teeny tiny enclave of hippy-ish joy I'm aware of. It lacks the highly commodified hipster esthetic that's so popular right now. Win! Plus, they sell the best chocolate brand. It's near the cards and called "baked milk and honey" (I think). My deaf friends and I came here twice during a vacation weekend and the staff was amazingly friendly and flexible in communication. These guys are hipster in a good way - artistic and high quality just like their neighbors the Purple Fiddle. We had their "pour over" coffee black. I had an Ethiopian bean and my wife had a dark roast. Both coffees were excellent with complex layers of flavor one would normally associate with thinking about a wine tasting. Food wise we had the blueberry cream cheese pastry, the pesto cheese pastry, and a frittata. All these items were excellent and paired well with the coffee. Two very slight negatives. First, they need more than one guy taking orders because the line got backed up big time. Second, on the pesto pastry I would not use beefsteak tomatoes because they watered down the dish and are too large. Try instead sundried tomatoes. Tip Top has a small bar with craft beers and cocktails. We were there in the morning however, and will have to wait until next time to try. The bottom line: Customer service was great, coffee was excellent (as good or better than Starbucks) and food was good. read more

The most notable feature of this place was, sadly, the appallingly negligent service I experienced at this establishment, twice in a row over a weekend trip. I ordered food and both days I went to the restaurant, it was "forgotten". The first time, I made a second special request after my order appeared to be 'forgotten', and the next time, I asked for a refund. I came here with a group of six friends. It seemed the cashier/coffee barrista was distracted by the multi-tasking to such an extent that both days, my food order (a bowl of pre-made soup) was not put in and never served to me. While members of my party ahead of me in the line were already seated and eating their lunch, I sipped my coffee and waited for my lunch...in vain. I knew something was wrong when people behind me in the line were actually eating but I still hadn't received my order. I humored the waitress on the first day, caught her eye as she was mincing around flirting with patrons, told her my order again, and allowed her to pretend that she was just tardy bringing it out... It was highly annoying that she didn't apologize for omitting my food order after it was paid for. It was obvious she was covering up her negligence. The same thing happened the very next day...with a male cashier this time. I waited incredulously, but the cashier man and the cook seemed in no hurry to bring out my tomato soup with a slice of bread on the side. (Dole out some soup from a pot? How difficult can that be?) By the time everyone in my party had already finished eating their orders (which are brought out at various times by the cook or the cashier ) and were headed out, I went up to ask for a refund for my food order that never materialized. I can't really think of anything else to say about a place that served everyone else in the establishment but me. I could put it down to sheer chance or I could note that I was the only non-white member of my group. This kind of business practice that would not fly in a big city like Portland or Boulder but apparently this selectively targeted "unintentional" negligence is still par for the course in Thomas. On the plus side their pour over coffee is quite good. Their pastries seemed delicious to my friends, who were served food without incident. Won't be going here again!! Shame on these representatives of Thomas culture. They should send me an apology and two free meals. HELLO?!! read more

CUTEST. COFFEE. SHOPPE. EVER!! I loved it ! We came in after being on the road for awhile. We wanted to grab a coffee and use the restroom. I walk in and it is so cute!! I love all the decor, the crazy cool different types of chocolate and the trendy and romantic feel of it. I don't know why people thought that the staff wasn't nice or helpful! They are super nice and they are really helpful! We ended up getting a lot of stuff! Some cider, a cappuccino, and an iced Mocha. All in all, I will say, yes, it's a little bit expensive, but because I really liked the staff and they were so knowledgable and the things were so unique, I wasn't too upset. I really liked how the chocolates were so unique and the cider had elderberries! They also had spicy honey!! That is way cool! I also really liked my drink as well. It was a little pricy, but again, it's a small local coffee shoppe so I wasn't really upset. I will say though, they are kind of slow, but I don't really mind. This place is all about the ambience. They are really nice and so the pace is really nice and slow. I could understand though, if someone wanted to grab a quick coffee and go, it could take awhile. But I feel like they really want to take time and make a quality product. I would love to jus sit there and do work. They have really good secure free wifi and it's just a super cozy place to do work and hang out. I would also love to try some of their treats because they looked so yummy! I drove 45minutes from where I was staying because I need a decent coffee. This place had great coffee. I went unfortunately during our Covid so we had to wait outside in the cold and wear masks I got the Spiced Mexican Chocolate latte and a Red Chai Tea both were very good. Now here is why I only gave it 4 stars when I called the gentleman that answered the phone was pleasant and very nice. HOWEVER when I got there the millennial girl ringing up orders acted annoyed and put out to be there. My mask fell below my nose she literally stopped taking my order was a bit rude in telling me to pull it up over my nose. Ok, I'm obsessed with how perfect this little coffee shop is. Located in a beautiful business district in Thomas, this shop has something for everyone. My sister tried their hot chocolate and loved it. My mom had a chai tea latte and loved it as well- she couldn't believe how much flavor was packed in her drink. Brendan enjoyed their house blend and I tried their "Weirdo" blend with oat milk as well as an almond milk latte (we visited BOTH days in our weekend trip to WV). The weirdo blend was very good- not too sweet, not bitter, and just packed with a lot of flavor. The almond milk latte was strong and really tasty. They had an impressive selection of food including breakfast items, sweet treats, and sandwiches. My sister tried a pumpkin spice muffin with espresso icing and she loved it. My mom tried a peanut butter chocolate chip cookie and really enjoyed it. They had a ton of really cool gifts as well including t-shirts (some with their logo and others with cool sayings like, "Filter Coffee Not People"), mugs, travel mugs, coffee to-go, and tons of chocolate- some more traditional and fun flavors like smoked salt or habanero salt. This coffee shop is also a bar, which is pretty cool. There are plenty of spots to sit- a large open table which would be perfect to sit with a group, more cozy spots for snuggling up with a book and even some secluded areas which would be great for working or studying. Overall, we liked this spot so much it was the only shop I tried during our trip. I hope to visit again someday! read more

If you are anywhere near Thomas, WV, do yourself a favor and stop by Tip Top. Anyplace where you can go from coffee to craft brew beer in under 30 seconds it worth a try. The coffee is top notch and they take pride in serving their custom brews. Your beverage may take some time, but it is well worth the wait. This is the most eclectic coffee house I've ever been to and there is something for everyone here. There is even a small children's play area. There was a wide variety of brews on tap, so if you are in the mood for a craft brew you will not be disappointed. They also provide wifi if you need to get connected, but there is much more here than just internet access. Tip Top is more about the experience than just coffee, so if you are nearby this should be on your hit list. read more

I was really rooting for this coffee shop, especially cause of how artsy it seems. I gave it a chance back in April and another chance this month. Both times I didn't have the best of service. The cashier person both times seemed miserable and it felt like any other Starbucks in the city. This guy's service was impersonal, rushed and the ordering process felt like such an inconvenience to him. Not even a tiny bit of friendliness, no hometown feel, just unfortunate service. If I wanted service like that I honestly would've stayed in the city. It's not all it seems to be and I don't really recommend. Especially Monday-Thursday when the entire town seems to be closed. I stop at this place at least a few times whenever I visit the town of Thomas. They always make a delicious iced mocha that is way better than any Starbucks. My other favorite item of theirs is the blueberry cream cheese tart that usually sells out each day before noon, so get it early! The staff is very friendly and I'm already familiar with the owners Cade and Nathan. The place is always spotless even after messy customers come through, and the individual restrooms are immaculate at all times. This is a great place to lounge for a bit or even just to get something to-go. There is wi-fi available for customers and comfortable seats with tables that make good surfaces for writing or computer work. There is also a bar seating area by the kitchen where the friendly locals often congregate and interact with the employees. I am often surprised even to see that they are open during late hours unlike other establishments in the area. This is a plus for people like me who require late night coffee. Best of all this place is wheelchair accessible thanks to a neat improvised ramp provided so graciously by WV On The Go (that's what the logo on the ramp says). Special mention goes out to the other staff members that make each of my visits an excellent experience, Kimberly, Morgan, Melissa, Heather, and anyone else I might have forgotten. While it's not a pancake and sausage kind of place, there is a good selection of bakery type items that will fill even the biggest of tummies. We started with two cups of hot chocolate, rich and creamy, providing just the right charge of warmth. This was followed by two frittatas, one meaty and one veggie, both filling and flavorful. A salmon bagel sandwich came out next, textured nicely and bursting with flavor. The real winner of the visit though was the cinnamon roll. This place really has it going on in terms of atmosphere, however it's seriously lacking when it comes to breakfast food. Came here on our way back to DC from a ski week at Canaan Valley. I have no complaints here. The staff was very kind and helped me select a beautiful tea. Food: Non-existent except for a few Vegan pastries. We had a long drive ahead so we were looking for something more substantial. We hoped they served breakfast, but we were terribly disappointed when they told us all they served for breakfast was pastries. The staff told us to try another restaurant down the street, The Flying Pig, sadly they were closed. We decided to grab some coffees/teas and hit the road. Drinks: Dahul House Tea- very delicious. Hints of ginger and peach. Loved this tea. Kenyan coffee- my boyfriend reported it was good, but not worth the high price. It was on par with other "trendy" coffee, like Intelligentsia. Hot cider- my friend noted it was "average, nothing special, but tasty." Atmosphere: Like a trendy Brooklyn coffeehouse. They had nice seating areas, cool lightning, and cute items for sale like chocolate bars and mugs. The coffee was also made via a beautiful glass pour over coffee maker. Prices: Everything was over priced. Total cost for one small tea and one small coffee was $9.00. Overall, this is a cute place and if I lived nearby I would probably come here for a tea and to get some work done. I travel across West Virginia several times during the year. In the past, I could either take the northern route via Morgantown or the southern route via Beckley. One day I figured out that I could go across WV-32 and then to Route 219. Along with my journey, I stumbled across TipTop. This is one of my top five coffee shops of my travels. Even though this new route takes me an extra 45 minutes, I take it solely to stop in Thomas WV and get a latte and a molasses ginger cookie. The service is great, the ambiance outstanding. Came here after sledding at Blackrock. The lady with the pink hair makes fantastic coffee. Tried their vegan butternut squash soup, it was delicious. The beef chili was great too. TipTop is very cute, trendy and very hipster. The restaurant is clean and the service is great! People in the little town seem very nice! I expected the items to be less expensive in a small town in the middle of WV but they are on par with typical coffee shop prices. I ordered a cappuccino and although it wasn't a traditional cappuccino the barista did offer to make it again. I opted to finish it as it was very well made and the espresso was great! My son had a hot chocolate and he said it was great and my other son had a chocolate chip pb cookie and it was pretty good also. I assume all the items are home made as they look amazingly unique!
