This spot is so fantastic. The outdoor spaces are amazing - with beautiful landscaping and plants galore. I asked a couple questions about the menu and was immediately directed to the BLT by a woman in the kitchen. Wow I wasn't disappointed. It was sooooo good. The bread was toasted perfectly (so it didn't kill the roof of my mouth), the tomato's and lettuce were fresh, the bacon crispy, and that basil mayo. A life changing BLT if there is such a thing. A couple side notes I appreciate. Bittersweet's marketing team deserves. Ton of credit - they have some awesome swag available for purchase. Also, this is a Christian oriented cafe with bible verses, messaging, and music. Love it! And finally, check out the story about Bittersweet's roots, its commitment to addiction recovery/support, and the owner's son's story/passing. Absolutely beautiful store, inside and out, but especially outside. They have tables in the front of the store and out the back. Nice landscaping provides a near perfect setting to enjoy a cup of coffee. I ended up getting a simple red eye. It was delicious. I understand they brew Iron Star coffee out of West Mifflin. The same Iron Star that owns Coffee Tree shops. If this coffee is any indication, I think I need to visit Coffee Tree again. It's been a while. Anyway, I had a really good cup of coffee and a peanut butter and jelly cookie. No complaints on the cookie, but I wish they had some breakfast sweets like scones or cinnamon rolls. Next time I'll try some real food. Just be aware that things are a little pricey here. read more

Visited on a Saturday in between tours at Frank Lloyd Wright properties. I love the ambiance, decor, and meaning poured into this place. The food was delicious. Servers were friendly and hospitable. The only downside is waiting in line to order and then waiting for your food. This is probably not the place to come when you have a time crunch, but if you can eat a leisurely meal, come on! Came to visit my friend in Mill Run and we both tried this place for the first time. I got the avocado toast with egg and he got the Belgium waffle. We were greeted by bob the cat on the patio who was so sweet and loved pets. We ordered and they brought it out to us, the staff was so nice and I love the decorations this place is so pretty, they have so many plants and I even saw someone cutting some herbs from outside, this is a great place to get a snack or meal and relax outside enjoying the peaceful ambiance. Omg. The absolute *cutest* cafe in the Ohiopyle area. The garden and flowers are absolutely gorgeous and we loved the little outdoor kitty! On a weekend, expect there to be a line but once we ordered it didn't take too long for the food to come out. They have an amazing selection of coffees and fresh teas and lemonades--get the lavender if you can!!! We decided to split the pulled pork grilled cheese--and wow. It was on fresh sourdough with an incredible homemade barbecue dipping sauce. I was in town with my best friends last weekend for my bachelorette, and we came across Bittersweet Cafe during our visit in the area. It is a very cozy and lovely space with a wide variety of delicious sandwiches and drinks! We all were fans of the Angry Bird Panini as well as their Belgian waffles! Their iced tea offerings were some of the best I've had at a cafe as well! They have fresh squeezed lemonade which makes for a delicious Arnold Palmer, and they have a fantastic iced orange and pomegranate tea drink that we all agreed was a favorite! The service was welcoming and attentive, it truly felt bittersweet leaving Farmington knowing the cafe wasn't coming with us! This is one of those diamond in the rough kind of places. On the side of a speedy road, you blink and are past it. But, if you are reading this review, go back! It's worth the visit. They have a beautiful outdoor garden setting and plenty of room inside. It's hard to give the outside seating the credit it deserves. Cool space.. but pretty limited menu for breakfast options and the sandwich was overall bland. They provided 2 condiments which I used but still needed something, salt and pepper even.. the price was kind of steep for a sandwich $10 for an English muffin sandwich and nothing else. I think the English muffins were homemade which was appreciated but not something I would return for but was a quick stop as we were passing through. To each their own though! The space was very clean and serene .. nice outdoor seating and landscaping and a sweet shop cat that roams around. The staff were very nice. When visiting Ohiopyle and the surrounding area, this place is a must! From their locally sourced goods to the friendly cats, I love everything about coming here. We got waffles and a burger on my last visit to Bittersweet with my son, and I got a seasonal s'mores latte. While we sat and ate, I noticed tags hung on Christmas garland that were donated by fellow customers for people in need. Some of the descriptions were "for someone who feels lonely," "for someone struggling with mental health", "for a single mother" and that was one of the most touching things I have seen this season. The workers have been nothing but kind any time I've been here, and the food is always 10/10. Highly recommend this place and can't wait to come back and visit again. Our group of 7 stopped in for lunch before heading to Fallingwater. It was a beautiful day, and we were able to enjoy the outdoor seating. The Bittersweet Cafe has so much heart! The owner' son passed away from overdose, and so part of their proceeds go toward helping addicts. There were a lot of encouraging notes and signs all around the cafe. The cafe itself is also super cute. We sat on the wraparound porch, which has a bunch of healthy looking plants everywhere. It felt like a place that's really loved. I got the Bittersweet burger and a blackberry lemonade. The burger has hot pepper jelly on it that made it a little sweet. It wasn't what I expected, but it was still yummy. The lemonade was great. They seemed a bit understaffed though. It was nice taking our time and staying a while. But if you're on a schedule, I wouldn't come during their busy hours. Overall I really enjoyed my experience here and would come back to try something else. read more

Stopped in here for lunch on our way to Fallingwater, I had a BBQ pork which was very good and my daughter had the grilled cheese which she liked very much. What I did not like was having to pay $5+ dollars for an ice tea and then not being able to get a refill without paying an additional $2.50, I have never been in a restaurant where you had to pay for tea refills. read more

Visits everyone who pays attention to it. I've only had the sautéed potatoes with hot peppers. It's of very good quality but too hot for me. I'd rather have chives and sweet peppers/carmelized onions. I don't eat meat or dairy. But I want to try the salmon and haven't yet. It's a smaller, intimate place. They have a smaller menu (which I prefer) as food is made to order. I haven't had a bad experience yet there and have gone numerous times. They are more of southern style so you can find biscuits & gravy. Never had until at this place & a southern friend of mine said it's good. Food is always hot & if you need small modifications, they got you. They also have a small bakery counter if you just want a pastry. The tables are a bit close but it's to try to get as many people served as possible. It's a place I bring people to regularly. read more

I love all things Bittersweet Cafe! They have the most heartwarming pay it forward board. It is filled with items such as a breakfast meal for a teacher, $10 for a single mom, coffee for a first responder, etc. The world map to show where visitors have traveled from is a cute touch that makes you feel their sense of community. It's really just a standup place all around. All ingredients are local and fresh, some items straight from their onsite gardens. They make a genuine effort to keep their menu as humane and local as possible. I haven't had a bad meal there. Expect to wait, but enjoy the ambiance while you're there. It's a great spot to set up your laptop and work or have a conversation over coffee with a friend. They have adorable merch for purchase too. Puzzling because everything is side YouTube can have a huge bowl of potatoes drenched in black pepper....add two eggs and it's 14.00. No toast. When looking for a place to re-fuel my body after a 5-hour hike in nearby Ohiopyle, Pennsylvania, this was by far my first choice. There is a seasonal sister cafe now in downtown Ohiopyle that triggered the recall of a Yelp Elite friend having reviewed their flagship location. It is conveniently located right on the route back to I-40. And may be because it is not right in downtown, it is less crowded. The Saturday in June I went, their space could easily accommodate our group and the communal seating style is also conducive for large groups. It is definitely a more relaxed dining atmosphere than the options downtown. Without the periodic road noise, it feels like a tranquil retreat with the surrounding trees, birds chirping, and log cabin in the country feel. You order at the corner and they come find your table number to deliver your order. Yes, the prices are high and yes, for that price they are using top quality ingredients and offering an elevated menu. I never like being forced to choose paying concession prices for low grade food because there aren't other options so I am thrilled Bittersweet Cafe offers an alternative. It's a plus that I love to support this type of fast casual small business eatery when I can. read more

I think it is hard to do traditional American food better but this place does. The Bittersweet Burger is spectacular. It's a different take on a classic still the same but just elevated. It has a nice beefy flavor from the well seasoned quality beef with a mix of cheeses an egg and a chili flake jelly that's sweet and just a little bit of spice. It's a flavor bomb that's what you expect with a burger but with a slight twist that just elevates. Everything about this place deserves a 5 star rating: the food is incredible, the service is friendly and personable, the atmosphere is lovely, the little cat that hangs around is even adorable. My partner and I were doing a weekend trip to hike and relax and this was the perfect spot to end on trip on a Sunday. It's not common to see London Fog Lattes on any menu, so I have to try one when I do, and this was one of the best I've ever had. If you're a tea lover, I highly suggest trying it. The Bird and the Angry Bird were both amazing, you can taste the quality in the food and the coleslaw is a must. I can't say enough about this place, everything they're about is positive. Was here a few weeks ago after visiting Fallingwater. They have great out door seating and it was a nice day. The Belgian waffle is crispy, and the strawberries and whipped cream add some nice notes. The syrup is sweet and delicious. I also heartily recommend the bacon. To order you line up in the front room and they bring it to your table when it is ready. Visited Bittersweet for the second time this past Saturday for my boyfriend's birthday. In one word, this place is "enchanted". Their menu is thoughtfully curated and the food is delicious. In response to other reviews that have stated they took too long for their order, I didn't have this experience, and I came on a Saturday mind you. It does get busy and is not your normal restaurant spot, so if you don't have at least a little time to kill, you might save this place for later. My boyfriend had the Belgian waffle and I had the sausage breakfast sammie. They did let his espresso sit a bit too long before bringing it out, so they had to remake it. Hey, everyone deserves a little grace. Our server was more than friendly. Side note, I also very much appreciate that they display Bible verses everywhere and are explicit about who they are as a business. As a fellow Christian, it is encouraging! The wait was worth it. Docking a star for the wait and inability of calling order ahead or ordering online ahead. We ordered the pulled pork grilled cheese and the bird sandwich. Both were delicious but the Bird was by far my favorite. They have an Angry Bird where they'll add a spicy aioli but they ran out when I got up to the counter which was disappointing. We waited in line for about 20 minutes to put in an order at the register. Then waited another 30 minutes for the food to come out. So it was a long time for what was supposed to be a quick lunch but at least the weather was nice and we were sitting at a table outside while we waited for the food to come. Technically, you can call ahead to order if you want to skip the wait, but they won't answer the phone if they're busy with in person orders because all hands on deck for those. We also ordered strawberry & cream smoothie and creamsicle smoothie- those were just ok. I would have rather ordered a pastry item instead. Overall the food is worth the wait and I would definitely return if I'm ever back at Nemacolin. Keep in mind- they are only open on weekend days, so plan accordingly! read more
