I had a chance to check out the Fallingwater Cafe for the first time yesterday. It's tucked on the Fallingwater property by the visitor's center, but within the gates so you can't come here unless you already have a ticket. The small but useful cafe had a few grab and go food options, and a small bakery case, with most of their offerings being various bottled drinks, hot tea, coffee, and lattes. I got a harvest turkey cranberry sandwich, a falling leaves latte, and a honey lavender latte while I was there. The sandwich was very large and I had a hard time finishing it. The lattes were sweet and refreshing. The sandwich cost $15, and each of the lattes cost $5.50. They do have allergy information for the sandwiches, but not for the bakery items, which was unfortunate, since their raspberry donut cheesecake looked decadent. They are a cashless facility and do accept Apple Pay. They have a variety of indoor and outdoor seating. read more

Amazing latte! I loved this little cafe. The price was a little expensive but SO worth it.

This is a difficult review. There are a number of factors to consider for this cafe. Factor 1 is convenience. If you are on-site already, you can just dine here and continue exploring. That was the deciding factor for us. Factor 2 is quality. The two items we got (a chicken-sandwich and a chick-pea spicy wrap) were both good, and tasted fresh. I'm sure they were 'healthy' too. I don't know that I'd order the wrap again, but I wasn't disappointed. Factor 3 is price. This place is expensive. You are paying for both quality and convenience here. Factor 4 is selection. The menu, while good, is fairly limited. How you balance these factors will determine how much you like the place. If I visit again, based on subsequent experiences, I think I'd drive 10 minutes to Ohiopyle and eat there. They seemed to have a few different restaurants with more varied (while probably less healthy) options. Prices were lower there also. But again, how you weight the 4 factors above will likely dictate whether you want to eat here or not. read more

Definitely a step above most museum cafeterias, the Fallingwater Cafe has a nice view of the foliage around the tour plaza and a mix of sandwiches, soups and salads for your pre- or -post-tour fueling. My girlfriend and I had a bite here as we had a drive back to Pittsburgh to look forward to and we wanted to not have to wait to eat until we got back to out hotel and then downtown for our targets that night. I went with the soup and half sandwich combo, choosing the tomato bisque and the turkey sandwich. The bisque smelled fantastic walking by other diners, and it lived up to that. It was hearty and well seasoned, and tasted almost exactly like a lasagna. Win! The turkey sandwich wasn't quite so great. While it had lots of moist, tender turkey, it was noticeably lacking in other toppings other than a few lonely pieces of baby spinach, and could have used more to have a broader flavour profile. I also highly suggest the Jarritos sodas they have there, my Mandarin one was great. read more

Decent food for the price. We went to the café and ate a late lunch after our tour - I had chili, while he had a hot dog. It's one of the only places, according to Yelp, where you can buy food in this area, and it's only for people who come to tour the FallingWater house. One note: Do not get the mac and cheese. Conveniently located in the welcome pavilion at Fallingwater, this cafe is a good place to stop and snack before or after your visit to this legendary home. They have a wide assortment of sandwiches, tasty snacks, and beverages for you to try, although prices are quite high. ($11-14 sandwiches!) What I liked best about the cafe was the ambience - the glass walls open up into the lush forest surrounding the pavilion, and the other walls have beautiful pictures and historical details about the people who made this awesome home come to life. The establishment tries hard to maintain an eco-friendly flavor, using no disposable plates or cups, and the snacks are also mostly natural and healthy options. Staff were friendly, and overall helpful. While this isn't the best place to have a larger meal (see my review for Out of the Fire Cafe), I think it's a good place to grab a quick bite so you can roam the grounds of Fallingwater in a relaxed manner, without a growling stomach. read more

I love this little cafe! My mom and I always make it a point to visit here during our trip to Fallingwater. They have a lot of healthy eating options and the ingredients are always very fresh. I usually get the turkey and cranberry sandwich because it is so delicious. I am sad they stopped using the sage/herb cream cheese because it was so good! They've also got a pretty nice selection of sodas...mint julep soda sounds odd but it was so freaking delish! The desserts were great too...chocolate chip pumpkin cookies with some pecans. Tasty! The atmosphere is really peaceful...I really love the green architecture. Did you know that Edgar Kaufman Jr's partner, an Industrial Engineer, helped to design the visitor center? I think they did a great job with the whole green architecture/connecting the environment to the building thing. :) The cafe, however, loses one star in my book due to price. For three people, our total for lunch came to be just over $40....jeebus. read more

A lot nicer than your average snack shop at a local attraction. They had a pretty good assortment of teas, juices, and some sodas that you don't normally see. I really enjoyed my Pennsylvania Dutch Birch Beer. The FWC also makes a pretty mean blueberry muffin! Recommend! read more

After the marvel that was falling water, this was a nice, university cafe style place that we went to for lunch. Since I go to a university, there was no novelty in this and portion sizes were smaller than I am used to. The portions though- they were great! I had a portobello goat cheese sandwich, and my friend got the day's soup which was a bean, cabbage, onion soup with pork. They were really good but I am glad I got the pumpkin pie and he had to go back for seconds on the soup. This place fits in with the other things in the visitor center of fallingwater, like the museum and gift shop. It was fun to eat there. The price of the items was not over the top! And given that there is nothing else around that area for miles and miles, this was a good place to be stranded in. read more

We visited Fallingwater for the second time, and really loved the tour of the house again. It really is the most dramatic house we have ever toured, by Frank Lloyd Wright or anyone else. On our first visit we did not have time to eat at the cafe on site, but we had time to try it this time around, and it was excellent. We have found that cafes associated with art museums and other high-end cultural exhibits generally are quite good, I guess because they cater to sophisticated tastes. This was a surprise to us at first since they look like, well, fancy cafeterias, but it is a rule that has served us well in our travels. The cafe at Fallingwater has a small but diverse selection of entrees, including sandwiches, salads, and one or two hot dishes. We had a grilled vegetable wrap and a salad, and both were excellent. My brother had a salad with grilled salmon that he enjoyed. There is very pleasant indoor and outdoor seating in the Fallingwater visitor center, which has an attractive architectural design itself, and nicely compliments the Fallingwater house. read more

I got a special, a meatloaf sandwich. It was museum-priced, a whopping $14, and the texture was kinda odd. A delicious rhubarb scone ($4) and a side of barley salad that came with the sandwich helped offset the disappointment with the main. Service was sort of slow - read most of a chapter while waiting, but it was lunch time, so perhaps that's expected. All in all it wasn't the best, but hey, at least your scone is going to support the site, right? read more

One of the healthiest places we've eaten in this area of PA. We enjoyed the local food they incorporated into their menu, and everything we had tasted good. The only thing I was very disappointed with was the mint julep soda. I had no idea what to expect from it, but it was something I'd never had so I thought I'd give it a try. It was just like drinking chewing gum! The ginger soda was much better. It's so great to find sodas sweetened with cane sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup! I had the tomato and cheese panini (finally something that actually looked like a panini!) and it was delicious. Others in my party got salads and enjoyed them as well. The turkey, goat cheese, and date sandwich was also wonderful! Let's not forget the lovely seating area, with floor to ceiling windows looking out at nature and the information and pictures about Fallingwater on the walls. Definitely worth a try! read more

This place was freaking awesome (LOVED the organic choices and the stressing of local ingredients. It is because of this that I give it 5 stars.) The tomato bisque might have been the best tomato soup I've ever had. I highly recommend eating here when you visit fallingwater. read more

Pluses: a great selection of unusual sodas! (birch beer, sarsaparilla, root beer, mint julep, almond cream soda...) Great spots to sit while you eat. It was pleasant to have hot food available and not just sandwiches. Minuses: really not that great in terms of food for a museum café. My friends' food looked kind of bland, and mine (Thai buckwheat noodles with chicken) was lukewarm--that dish should either be hot or cold! To be fair, I'm judging this based on museum cafés at places like the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, but it was a pity to go through beautiful Fallingwater and then be disappointed by only okay food. Plus, the line was really long and there weren't enough people working. It took us almost a half hour to get through the line for the café, which was partially our timing, but still. Overall, I kind of wish that we'd driven back into Ohiopyle and gotten pulled pork sandwiches, but it was OK. read more

We had a nice meatloaf sandwich and chili after our tour. Certainly much better than the sandwiches we brought with us to eat in the car! Pleasant surroundings, with more Fallingwater history information on the walls of the main dining room. Our only gripe, the soda bottles from the local bottler required Herculean strength to twist open. (The soda was good though.) read more

There's not a lot of competition around here but this place would stand out anyway. Very high-quality ingredients, well-prepared, not a large menu but something for everyone. Definitely stands out especially among destination cafés. read more
