Now granted, I am hormonal and 6mo pregnant so I make an effort to go with grace into potentially upsetting situations and at the end of the day grubhub refunded us and bad experiences just happen from time to time. But hell all the damn way to the MF nah, can I not warn people away from this place...they double charged us $140 for an incomplete and inedible order that took almost two hours to get. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE EAT HERE, YOU ARE BETTER OFF AT A GAS STATION. Save your money. Options to consider instead: -A Costco hot dog ($1.50 w/ a drink vs $71 no drink) -Develop the ability to photosynthesize. -A well preserved cigarette on the sidewalk. -Gift a meal from this place to an enemy. I know the wait I'm in for with soulfood and I don't mind paying what's asked. I could go in about how I placed my order at 4:45 and did not walk out with my food until 6:30 because there was only one cook with mask hanging down, or how my order was still so incomplete that I was chased down to be handed lukewarm green beans and when I got home not one order had cornbread, or how the jambalaya was just tomato marinara weirdness and everything was blander than that Taylor Swift cover of Earth Wind & Fire, or how I saw store bought pies in their tins thrown on the stove. But what really matters is that I feel the need to at least got to the BBB site because this establishment is either disorganized to the point of reckless billing or just straight up thieving money. They should be ashamed to represent our community in ANY professional capacity. I selected the option to pay in cash through the app, but I didn't know it charged our cc from the grubhub account immediately. So when I arrived, I went to pay and the man pulled up my order and read it off exactly. Had to change the order because they were out of what I selected in app, so with the total change, I pay $70+ with a $100 and he's short change and promises to give me my $4 later. Wasn't a problem...until it was 6:00 and I still have no food or change and the man asks ME what one of the meals I ordered was. Um sir? Is it not on the ticket??? All that was on the 11th. Cut to today, theres a grubhub charge posted as of the 13th. I figured yelp glitched with grubhub somehow, because I selected cash and had to pay when went so I called grubhub. Grubhub refunded me immediately because it turns out even though I selected cash it charged my cc immediately and came through to the restaurant as PAID. This man went through my whole order and everything on a PAID TICKET and let me hand over cash. I even asked grubhub if the order would have come to them paid because of my selecting cash and she said YES, IT STILL WOULD HAVE SHOWN PAID. $140?! And I didn't even get the cornbread?!?! Never in my whole black like have I experienced blasphemy to this extent. What are yall a bank? I was so hot by the time I left I didn't even remember my $4. That's a dollar away from $5! It's a pandemic, people getting thrown to the streets and yall wanna scam people?! The desperation. Don't have a business you can't afford to manage properly, honestly. it was a hard day, my pregnant self was laying concrete and I just wanted to treat my family to some good food. I was so emotional about this at first I didnt want to post in anger. But today having to be refunded after finding out they knew I already paid was it. To be honest i came here 2 days in a row! First day i ordered the smothered chicken with rice, yams, mac n cheese and greens. The smothered chicken could use more gravy but i was juicy. You get 2 pieces. The yams were good and the mac n cheese was cheesy. The greens were cool after hot sauce is added. The only issue I have is the cornbread is so small. But its most and good. The second day i ordered the catfish nuggets ( i usually don't just get anyones cause a lot of people don't know how to cook catfish...if its not cooked right its slimy) But this place...omg! Today was the 2nd time trying this establishment with the hubby & grandkids My order was plates of fried fish ,fried pork chops and smothered short ribs greens, potato salad ,mac n cheese Green beans kids chicken strips (didn't have )greens beans were sitting rt on counter in large can we order about 12:40pm got food around 2:30pm it wasn't crowded so not sure why it took so long at least 2 of the men working there kept leaving the kitchen, I didn't like we waited over an hour ,my granddaughter chicken & fries weren't on the ticket after asking where's the missing plate .I was asked to wait another 8 mins and it would be ready ,we couldn't wait more time ,I of the men offered to cook the kids chicken plate at no charge I declined and let them know I wouldn't visit again and they need to do better have food ready ,no mash potatoes, nothing else ready to choose from. I went to this place for the first time today and I spent approximately $40 for two meals. Once I got my food I've noticed that the oxtails that I ordered were burnt and one of my sides was missing. I reported this to the woman working and she told this man to fix it he gave me a dirty look and proceeded. I really tried. I tried ordering food yesterday for delivery. Waited over 2 hours and called maybe 10 times or more. NO ONE PICKED UP. Then when someone finally called me back, they said that some random person picked up my food an hour prior when it showed in the app that my delivery driver was still there. Today, I decided to try again. What a horrible mistake. Food was late again. The driver got there on time to pick up the order only to be told that they were just starting on the food. EDIT:: THERE IS MEAT IN THE "VEGAN" BLACK-EYED PEAS. I've been sick all night and am beyond livid. I will not be going back. So, pretty bummed out about this place. The biggest thing was that the plaza was BLARING music that gave me a migraine as we waited for our food. I get that this was not something that the restaurant has any control over, but if someone has sound sensitivity, be aware of it. The lady and the cook were very pleasant and nice, but when I asked what sides were vegan, the lady didn't really know what sides were vegan. And it was difficult to ask because of the music, but they said that the only vegan sides were the corn on the cob (wasn't on the cob. It was like a south-western corn mix) and the mashed potatoes. (They said that they don't add any butter or milk) So, I ordered the vegan jambalaya and ordered the corn "on the cob" and the mashed potatoes. After getting a migraine from the music while waiting the 45 min (which we were told it was going to be 30 minutes) we found out that they didn't have any mashed potatoes and after asking for another corn on the cob, we were told that they didn't have enough to give us more. So, eventually they said the black eye'd peas and rice were vegan (hopefully) Which was very bland. The Vegan Jambalaya was just the same plain white, unseasoned rice, bell peppers and what I'm pretty sure was soyrizo. It was ok, but not really what I think of when I think of jambalaya. It felt more like it should have been in a burrito as a Tex-mex dish. Especially when it's so easy to use things like soy curls to give a chicken like texture and there are so many vegan sausage recipes. And there is REALLY good vegan shrimp out there that could be used. The biggest suggestions are for the owner to talk to the plaza about the level of music, and to have any and all sides that are vegan or can be made vegan clearly marked on the menu. My SO, who isn't vegan ordered the 2 meat meal, ordering the fried chicken and the ribs. He also ordered the mashed potatoes and corn "on the cob". But had the same issues with the mashed potatoes and ended up getting the white rice. His response when I asked him how he felt about the experience was "Eh, it wasn't anything special." My SO just reminded me that the menu says ALL dinners/entrees are supposed to come option of 2 sides and corn bread. We never got any corn bread, nor was it mentioned that maybe they were out of it. So ??? It's a great big mystery. I'm bummed out because I had been forward to trying the jambalaya for like a week now and we just got a chance to go today. I may give it another shot to try the vegan chili possibly, but based off another review, it would be nice if they would make vegan corn bread to go with it. If it didn't totally miss the mark it was missing something. So, I got the Fried Chicken, Mac & Cheese, Greens, and Yams. Let's start with the Fried Chicken. 1. When asked how many pcs of chicken you get for $17.99 and they say "8 pcs" which means it party wings run. I don't know if this is a new thing but what soul food restaurant doesn't fry the whole dang yard bird? So, it's safe for me to assume that the baked and smothered chicken is party wings?! Plus I only got 5 small donkey wings. 2. If get home and open your box and your chicken isn't golden brown look like Shemar Moore on a hot tropical Sunday but it's giving one shade lighter of Wesley Snipes in Blade. Their frying oil is dried. 3. If you go to pick up the chicken and all the crust falls off and the skin underneath looks like a whole different method was used, just save your stomach the bubbles and throw it out. My chicken was previously baked and deep fried later because they didn't want to waste it. Now for the sides: 1. Greens had too much vinegar, that it over powered the greens. I don't know if that was an accident or if it was to cover something up or they just like them like that: 2. The yams were cool. 3. The Mac & Cheese this is were the missing something comes in. I guess I was looking for that baked Mac and cheese look, feel, and taste. Instead I got the Mac and cheese right after you added it the cheese sauce now the only thing missing is to layer in the cheese and pop it in the oven. The flavor was good but it was missing the baked part and the noodles were way to soft. It also was cold as double hockey sticks. I visited the food truck today, nearly 45 minutes after placing my order I got my food without the cornbread that I forgot to check for by the time I got home. I don't think that a food truck can be successful in a shelter in place era when we just want to get our food and go home and we have to wait 3/4 of an hour for our food. I'm from Chicago and I have to say that since leaving the windy city many years ago, I truly miss real soul food. California seem to really miss the mark when it comes to southern cooking. Soul food isn't all about the food as there a certain personality that comes with the food. But one would have to travel south and explore southern restaurants to fully understand such culture. Advice: what you end up doing isn't necessarily what you should be doing. But hey, congrats on following your dreams and being an entrepreneur. However, "Find your why". (why are you doing what you're doing). Advice: create an excel spreadsheet and within the spreadsheet create columns (service, cleanliness, quality of food, etc.) and what you want to do is read all reviews on yelp and properly categorize each review based on what people mention ( you want to use numbers, example... If 12 reviews mentioned attitude, then you would place an 12 under the column "service". This will help gauge your areas of opportunity. You can then transform this excel spreadsheet into a circle, highlighting all of the data you entered. Just friendly advice as I ran million dollar restaurants and $30 to $130 million businesses outside of food service. However, the technique works well. read more

Tried to order through Grub Hub--no go. Walked in to meet the red braids lady (no net) and mask on her chin. An unmasked cook was handling things in the dark dingy cooking area. I pushed on and placed my order. Come back in 30 minutes, said the red braid lady. Wow. 30 minutes later I was told 15 more minutes. In that OT waiting time, I witness large vats of brown liquid being transported from the kitchen through the 'mall' in a nasty looking grocery store shopping cart multiple times. While watching that messiness I began to actually look at the business. Dirty counter, dirty kitchen door, glimpses of the dirty kitchen, brown liquid on the floor, and trailing through the 'mall' right in front of the order area. I was overwhelmed with the nastiness. Oh, the food ... it was marginal at best: plain barely seasoned Mac&Cheese, average meatloaf/greens/red beans and rice, and missing cornbread. I hate to say this because I have to really enjoyed working with a gentleman there during my single week of employment BUT this is the worst restaurant I've been associated with in my entire life. Completely a walking clusterfuck no set schedule lie about wages and then under pays employees I have over 7yrs cooking experience and I got paid $10 and hour when I was informed I would make the state minimum wage. The kitchen isn't safe. Food handling and storage standards and protocol is totally non existent. I got the vegan chilli, and it was pretty good! I was almost surprised that it was vegan! It had all of the flavor and consistency that you'd like in a good chilli. These guys definitely deserve their own restaurant. My family and I ordered the Southern Jambalaya, Crab Boil Seafood, and Fried Fish and Shrimp. Everything was cooked to perfection by the chef Tobias. I normally don't really leave a yelp review for restaurants cause I get pretty lazy but this food made me jump off my seat and dig right in to they very hot food. We also ordered the T2G Kool Aid and I don't understand how they make it so good. Tania took care of our order and kept reassuring us that our order would be out.
