A long long time ago, I bought a laptop messenger bag. I kept the external part of the bag immaculate, but the lining started to disintegrate over time. I stopped using it because I didn't want to deal with the flaking. Going through my stuff I found it and thought, what if I could have it repaired? After a little research, I reached out to the company, and opened a warranty claim. It had been too long (and I didn't have proof of anything anymore) to get it done for free but they offered to repair it for the nominal fee of a mere $25. I just got it back; it only took a couple weeks (so fast!) and it looks like a new bag! I'm so happy! Great customer service too. Good on ya Timbuk2! Massive thanks for restoring the bag! read more

PLEASE NOTE: This was for nationwide shipping. My partner got a Timbuk2 bag and LOVED IT. However, it arrived slightly damaged. The customer service was so quick to take care of it (their help center is a "one stop shop for all things questions, broken, or stressful"). They offered to either fix the broken buckle (he'd have to send the bag back and wait on the repairs) or send him a new one for him to fix himself; he went with the latter option because the turnaround was shorter/it was something we could easily do ourselves! Anyway, I borrowed the bag - the Tuck Laptop Backpack ("The Tuck Pack has just enough organization for your daily commute and ample capacity for weekend excursions. Rear access laptop compartment is padded for safety. Internal slip and front pockets for accessories and essentials. Water-resistant finish for protection in light rain.") - for a recent trip abroad and it was SO MUCH BETTER than any other backpack I had previously used. Because it has a rolldown top, you can cram *a lot* of stuff inside it (like my wellies!); no matter how stuffed, it always seems to slide under the airplane seat without a problem. Heads-up: the dual slip pockets on the sides are strangely not the same size; only one can hold a traditionally sized 32 ounce Nalgene water bottle, and it's a very tight fit. Not only did it make an exceptional personal item for the flight, it also worked as a daytrip bag to the seaside, and a grocery bag at the market. I loved it so much, I immediately bought myself one when I got home. That Eco Nautical Pop (a navy blue bag with neon pink and neon yellow accent details) is really attractive! I recently bought a second bag which arrived SO fast, the Flight Crossbody Satchel ("This is a great solution for those times when all you need to carry are the essentials. Constructed with eco-friendly yarns and recycled polyester that's made from pre-consumer waste, it's an environmentally friendly bag... A hidden tricot-lined slip pocket features a magnetic closure, giving you quick access to sunglasses and a smartphone while protecting them from scratches."). I needed something that would fit an 8.5 x 5.7 notebook/traditionally sized paperback, and it does! Admittedly, the area for the smartphone is NOT big enough for current smartphone sizes though, but it's great for sunnies. I'm still playing with the right length on the strap, but so far it's a sturdy bag perfect for hands-free grocery shopping. I got it in Jade, and it's such vibrant pop of teal; unexpectedly I'm receiving lots of comments on it. read more

I bought my Timbuk2 messenger bag in San Francisco back in 1999 and I love it. I've taken it all over the world and still use it almost every day. I've literally had it half my life. I've put it through unbelievable amounts of abuse-rain, snow, tropical heat, dragged it on dirty bus floors, stuffed it into overhead airline bins, overloaded it with everything imaginable... I even dropped it in the Mekong River by mistake and it's NEVER failed me! 26 years later one of the bottom seems came undone and I was heartbroken that I'd have to replace it. So I reached to Timbuk2 about their lifetime warrantee and guess what... they fixed it for FREE!!!! Because customized bags are not returnable, I wanted to get it right. From clarification of sizing to color verification. The phone support team member in San Jose, CA was friendly. He helped with sizing and suggested I visit a store in person, which I did. I went to the Livermore location and was met with professionalism, attentiveness, insight and knowledge. I color matched my design using the swatches but was unable to create an image because the computer was down. Regrettably, while customizing my bag at home, some colors on the website did not reflect the actual colors of the swatches I had seen in the store. I called the Livermore store and shared my concern. Cynthia, went above and beyond what I would have expected from a store employee. She heard my concerns; travel and the need to see "true" colors, then sent a photo of the colored swatches I preferred. The bag was delivered on time, if not a few days earlier. It feels durable, has plenty of room, lots of pockets and I'm enjoying it. read more

I ordered a custom bag early this year (Ordered in May, delivered in June) which had to be sent back for repair. Timbuk2 received the bag on 9/27/24. I was told on 10/15/24, 3 weeks after it arrived to Timbuk2 that repairs had a 6 week wait and that I could continue to wait for the repair (which at that time would have made the repair be 9 weeks from when it arrived to them) or order a new bag. I told Joseph Piazza (Head of Customer Experience) that I would like a new bag and listed the type I wanted on 10/16/24. I received no reply back confirming that Joseph had placed my order until I complained many times to customer service until I got a confirmation on 11/5/24. I still have received no shipping notification as of today 11/19/24. Today has been 12 weeks since Timbuk2 received my bag that I shipped back. I'm unable to connect with anyone in customer service that will give me anything other than a one sentence response regarding where my bag is/when it will ship. This is a poor customer service experience and I have been waiting on my bag longer than I was able to use the one I ordered before the stitching came undone. and I had to send it back for repair. read more

Had came here on a Sunday afternoon during Labor Day weekend (during the heatwave). My friend was interested in getting a bag from them so I had recommended going to a store to check it out. I had bought my first Timbuk2 bag in 2011 to carry my camera equipment in, so I was familiar with the brand. As I had said previously, this was during the heatwave so a lot of places in the city had to have fan's blowing. Timbuk2 was no exception. Small store but they only had 1 fan at the entrance of the store. It was REALLY warm inside the store making me make trips to stand in front of the fan quite often, otherwise it would've been quite miserable to be inside. The guy who helped was super nice and informative. I tried looking around as well for possibly a new bag in the future too. Both my friend and I pretty much had our eyes caught on the "Authority Laptop Backpack Deluxe" with an Eco Nightfall color. (he ended up getting it). Always liked the design and durability of Timbuk2 bags. It's nice to know Timbuk2 has a good warranty/policy if things are somehow defective or just needs replacement. read more

I've collected several Timbuk2 backpacks and messenger bags over the years--some from companies I've worked at, some just personal purchases. I've always been impressed by the quality of all of them. While I do take pretty good care of my bags, I'm still surprised they don't show more wear and tear with all the everyday use. I also like all the pockets they have. It's nice to have different spots to store all my junk, without having to purchase/carry extra pouches and stuff. I'd been eyeing the copilot luggage roller for a while, but wanted to check it out in person. I was in Hayes Valley already for dinner, so I decided to stop by this store and see if they had it. They did, and it was on sale! The two people working the front of the store were super nice and very helpful and knowledgeable. (I unfortunately did not get their names.) Review for Parker Commuter backpack-- I bought the Timbuk2 Parker backpack because I was happy with my previous backpack from the same manufacturer. I've had that backpack for many years now and its showing its age, so I decided to purchase one for my next trip to Europe. The Parker Commuter pack is bigger than my old Timbuk2 so I was thinking it can carry more for my journey. That was its only advantage. I have so many concerns about this back pack. 1. The back pack CAN'T stand on its own. The pack will tip over unless its propped against something solid. The shape doesn't allow it to stand alone. So annoying. 2. The interior lacks adequate pockets. There are only 1 large packet at the back and another in the front. It doesn't allow one to separate items or travel essentials. This is such a departure from my previous timbuk2 bag. 3. The shoulder straps lacked padding(!). Timbuk2 decided to only provide the least amount of foam padding and leave the rest as nylon straps which of course constantly rubs and chafed on the shoulder even with a light weight. I have to manually lift it off my shoulders just to get relief. 4. The pockets outside, though accessible, are of odd sizes and not very intuitive for traveling.-- Overall, this back pack is a BIG disappointment for me. The increased cost doesn't correspond to the lack of good design. This will probably be my last Timbuk2. read more

I love Timbuk2 bags. My wife gifted me a custom Timbuk2 thirteen years ago, at the start of my legal career. People have been telling me to get a new one, but it's been serviceable, and at this point is practically a part of me. Still ... the lining was flaking all over my files, so I finally caved and took it in for service. Lisette was super-helpful. She walked me through the RMA process (reminding me to be certain to empty my bag completely), went through an entire box of loaner bags to find something close to my messenger bag, and even texted me helpfully when (invariably and despite my best efforts) I left a bunch of USBs drives in one of my bag's pouches. I really appreciated Lissette's excellent customer service. I was having the type of day where no one was bothering to be kind or courteous. Lissette did, and even added a little "friendly" in there. Sales people were friendly and attentive. It cracked me up that there was a security guard in their tiny, narrow store - he was the doorman. The music was definitely pumped up. If I had to make decisions, it would be hard for me to concentrate. However, we went in to buy one specific item. The store had it, and we were out of there in less than 10 minutes. The store had a lot of bags displayed on the walls. I've been carrying my canvas Timbuk2 bag for 20 years! It has one small hole on the outside, but it doesn't go all the way through the bag so I really don't need to shop for one. Love their SF made products!! read more

The folks at Timbuk2 are generally friendly and helpful They stock an array of bags that can be customized. Generally I don't like to gripe, negative experiences are generally never intended by either the staff or customers. However, I do need to share an experience that may impact others. It seems that the factory here in SF is moving to a more fitting space. For some reason that has disrupted operations at the store. They've changed their hours and are not open on Mondays. I'm addition, if you have a repair, like I did, they're not taking them as they normally would. I feel like Timbu2 is asking a lot of people during this time. The tries to be empathetic, but at this point, Timbu2 is giving me plenty of reasons to look elsewhere for my needs since they can only seem to do the minimum of what they usually do. My best advice, if you need anything from the store, call first! What they can offer truly changes from day to day. read more

Used to love this brand and own many bags including backpacks and a couple of suitcases. Recently I had my back pack bag sent off for repair and it took 1 month for it to come back and then broke again while traveling on 3 month trip. Thanks guys. Now my laptop has several dings in it because of second failure. Your better off throwing these in the trash and moving on as the workmanship is no longer there and you'll have to mail your bag in for repair and wait a month for them to decide if its worthy to repair. read more

Given I had tried so hard to keep the bag in excellent shape; I was really afraid to just send it to any luggage repair place. Fortunately, I remembered Timbuk2 lifetime warranty. After bring my bag to the store to check and waited until the SF Repair Shop completed its move, I got it repaired perfectly! And the bag was shipped back to me via UPS at no charge to me. I could not have been happier with the work; my bag now looks (almost!) like new. Considering I have kept all my Timbuk2 bags ( 6 or 7 of them), I am very relieved to see that Timbuk2 truly stands behind it's products, and with superb customer care from end to end. Great customer service at this particular location, however the products can be hit or miss. I had bought a backpack here and within a month and a half, the claw on my clasp completely snapped and rendered my pack useless. It took them several attempts to send a replacement claw and the customer service team is really slow to respond. I think they should improve on the design and fortify the clasp to make it stronger because that's whats closing the pack! Other than that, the guys that helped me at the actual store level were attentive and went above and beyond to help me choose the right pack. read more

In the past, I've had 2 Timbuk2 bags and have loved them. I finally broke down to get a new bag and did a custom order to get exactly what I wanted. The day I received the bag, a zipper broke. The zipper was not stitched correctly, so the bottom part of the zipper was free to flap around. I would have thought that such an issue would have been recognized prior to shipment. The zipper immediately came out the first time I unzipped. To date: I have sent 2 emails, 2 twitter messages, and a phone call. I have yet to receive a response. Their email notification of shipment makes a statement about "moving mountains" to help customers, but I have not seen any level of effort. You've lost a loyal customer and I would suggest that potential buyers seek other options. read more

You can also add Timbuk 2's Messenger Bags to the list too. Everywhere I go, especially on my recent trip to Portland and Phoenix, I received numerous and positive compliments about my black Timbuk-2 bag (I'm sure some of you have seen it from many Yelp's events and gatherings). I bought this bag in 2005 at the main store on Hayes Street for $100 at that time. And four years later to the date of this review, this is still my everyday bag and still going strong with the rugged nylon materials that might last hopefully when my kids grow up. You can also tell this durable bag has a bit of sentimental value to me. But still, when I'm in the lively Hayes Street area, I still like to go to the tiny Timbuk 2 store to see what they have. Also to see the funky combination color designs on some of these bags. If you don't like any of the combination of colors on some of the bags, for an extra cost-you can also "Pimp your own messenger bag!" Looking around, the shop also do carry the newest bags and accessories before they shipped the items to stores such as Sport's Basement and other retailers. I did see a bottle-holder for my strap of my bag. For $10.00, the bottle-holder is a holster for your water-bottle, beer-bottle or canned beverage. And there is velcro belt that attached to the strap of my bag. I like that idea and it's in black too. "Color-Coordination, baby!" I still love to sashay my TB2 bag wherever I go. read more

We have been loyal customers of Timbuk2 for many years. We've visited this store on many occasions during our trips to San Francisco, and have come here to purchase their limited edition Pride bags almost every year. Sadly, we will no longer be purchasing Timbuk2 products due to a recent experience with a warranty repair. We had a bag with reflective fabric that began cracking after a few months of normal use. We sent it it in to be covered under warranty, but Timbuk2 declined the warranty coverage, stating it was normal wear and tear, even though we sent them examples of reviews by other customers with the same issue. It took over two months for Timbuk2 to repair the bag, mostly because each time there was communication, it took 2-3 weeks on their end to receive a response. None of their communication includes a phone number to call, so we ended up calling this store to attempt to get in touch with someone in customer service. We had to leave a message, and that phone message was never returned. Sadly, Timbuk2 has grown from a local brand with high quality products and great customer service to what it is today. Their stores have lost their eccentric, colorful vibe and now just caters to urban hipsters and is staffed with employees that don't even know the product. read more

It was as busy as I expected it to be considering it was just days from XMAS... so I was able to "fully" customize my new bag. PRO-TIP: The Hayes Valley store has two bright orange PUBLIC bikes parked outside for people to hire out for the day... for FREE! The Timbuk2 guys were super helpful and lovely - you fill out a form, provide your credit card details as insurance for bike return, and they even help you out with a helmet and lock. Bought a bag yesterday -- liked the bag (4 stars) but annoyed by the rather unprofessional service from the sales guy with an attitude on a Saturday afternoon. As we browsed around and checked out different sizes of the various bags, we asked and confirmed with the sales guy that there isn't another size in between the smallest bag and the medium one on display (he said yes). However, as we continued looking around, we actually found a bag for Macbook 11 that was exactly that -- so when we brought this up, he may have gotten a wee bit defensive about being contradicted. He went onto a lengthy explanation and said it was a wrong product because the 11 inch doesn't fit into the designed pouch and the product will be discontinued. FIne. Just wish he could have informed us earlier since we still like the size of the bag. So as we stand there trying to decide what color bag to buy, we overhear him complaining to other guests about how some people must go through and open up every bag as he stands there putting the bags away. Decided not to engage in his negative behavior and just purchased the bag, to which he says sarcastically "finally the perfect bag, after much perusing, huh." Really? We were there all of 20 minutes and opened up a total of 6 bags. TImbuk2, please train your workers because while your products are awesome, this one folk is tarnishing your brand. read more

I am a Timbuk2 customer for life. I got my first bag back in 2006 or so. I have bought a number of bags from this wonderful store but most recently I bought a bag 4 years ago and I use it daily for work. The zippers finally broke from so much daily use. I went into the Hayes location store in SF and a wonderful woman named Rosie helped me. She took my old bag from me and sent it out for repairs. I just got it back with two new zippers for free! I'm so happy because I love this bag and now I can get lots more use out of it. Rosie is so kind and really made my day. She shows the great customer service that this company is made of! Three cheers for Timbuk2's lifetime warranty! They offer a variety of messenger bags and backpacks that have all sorts of little pockets, adjustments, and flaps. The staff at the store was nice. I brought in my bag with a ripped seam, that I'd been using for years and years. I love my messenger bag. But I've been disappointed that stuff has been falling out of the increasingly large hole growing in the side of the bag. But they took a look at it, and showed me how to fill out a warranty claim, and suggested that I could even drop if off at their HQ on the other side of town. I opted to mail it, since I was visiting, and I'm still waiting to see the job they do, but the experience has been good so far.
