Originally I wrote : Avoid this scam company at all cost! They make promises about how they stand by their luggage. How safe the locks are and how sturdy the luggage is. After ONE trip, the $800 suitcase suffers a HUGE dent, and a friend I was traveling with bought keys on Amazon that will open AWAY bags that are locked with dual combination locks. Brought the bag to the AWAY store in SF and they said this sizable dent is cosmetic and they won't repair it. Funny, not what they say when trying to sell you their overpriced tin cans. I'll make sure to pop my head in every time I walk by and tell the customers how they lie about repairing and covering their overpriced trinkets. Run away from AWAY! Away was super trendy pre-pandemic and I can see why! The quality of the product speaks for itself with the 360-wheel, limited lifetime warranty, and smooth rolling, with it's plastic (or aluminum) case. The aluminum case suitcases are zipper-less, so it cannot expand (or be jam-packed). The plastic comes in a regular option and a bigger 'flex' option where you can add another inch to your packing (this saved me in Germany). The plastic case also comes in a lot of fun colors, including limited ones. This location is located on Hayes street with street parking. The staff here are friendly and helpful. I came in because after 3 years with my pink suitcase, somewhere, somehow, one of my wheels got dented. I emailed the team at Away and they said because I have an older model of their suitcase, they couldn't replace the wheel but I was covered under the limited lifetime warranty. I had a limited-edition color - petal (pink), and because it was no longer offered, I had the option to choose a new color. To be honest, I was happy about this because the pink got too dirty/scruffed. I brought my suitcase into the store, was helped by a staff member immediately and chose the coast blue color. She took my pink suitcase, as I bid farewell to it along with the travel adventure memories. The store has all the colors lined up on a top shelf, so you can see it closeby (but not within reach lol). It's nice that you can test the suitcases and check out the accessories it comes with. Great service at the SF Away Store. We needed a new suitcase for my mom, and since everyone in our family (8+) are devoted Away fans, we decided to get her one too. I called the store and they were able to process my purchase by phone right away, and then picked up the bag within 2 hours. Parking on Hayes can be tricky and they offered to bring it out to my car when I arrived - luckily a found a spot and my suitcase was packed and waiting when I arrived... It's convenient if you're in SF, you get to see & touch the merchandise. The staff is friendly, and remembered me on future visits. I bought a boring black expandable carry on, then returned it when I realized it would be too big for international travel. Now a decision to make. Love the silver but it's too small & weights 10 lbs! I went home and discovered my trusty smaller $120 Samsonite carry-on is 4.5 lbs. jeesh, the smallest Away is 7lbs before packing, but I wanted to get the largest international size possible. They're very generous with returns as long as the luggage isn't used, so keep it on your carpet. I also returned a small compression bag, & when I went back to buy bigger sizes they said they don't carry them. (?). I got a set of their packing cubes, perfect for a carry on. I didn't need compression as the suitcase has 2 straps serving as compression. Easier when you're moving from city to city. My only beef is the compression side really needs three straps so the middle doesn't bulge out. Nice touch that they include a laundry bag & tag, however the tag is kind of funky & doesn't lay flat. They should consider a chain loop instead of the thick leather. On my trip to buy another I was in love with a shiny lavender bag, only to find it didn't come in carry-on size. What's up with that? After a ridiculously long time I settled on a matte aqua color, not my fav, but it stands out, won't get lost in sea of luggage. I'm getting weekly emails, as if all I do is buy more luggage. It's annoying to see the endless appearance of limited edition colors now that I'm stuck with aqua bag for the rest of my life. (Paid almost $400, not impulse item for me). Went back again for this awesome, packed flat crescent shaped crossbody bag. Another annoying design feature, for some reason the adjustable buckle still renders the strap too long, it bounces on my hip instead of hugging my chest. What's up with that? Since the department stores have either folded or lack inventory, your retail options are limited. You could also take a chance at ordering another brand online. I did that with July brand, claiming it was lightest in the world - not quite- more than my Samsonite, but returned it cause it was even smaller, like a child's suitcase. Sigh. Away suitcases were my preferred brand back in 2019 when I was looking for an upgrade from my usual duffle bags. Their store is easy to get to. Parking is all along the streets and timed. The area is very active with tons of different shops to go in and their staff has been friendly and helpful every time. Fast forward to 2023 and my fiancé decided it was time to upgrade his carry on luggage and went straight to Away. Their luggages come in a variety of eye pleasing colors although they no longer come with the external battery (no big deal). I forgot who assist with his inquiries, but they were very helpful and able to provide answers to every question we had. I'd highly recommend Away solely based on their customer service both in store and online. My suitcase from 2019 had a broken zipper and I wasn't sure if it was covered by their warranty. I took a chance to reach out and I was able to get a replacement shipped to me asap with no questions asked. read more

First, I really like that Away offers some stores in San Francisco and Seattle for anyone on the fence about style/durability/size to have a hands on test. Hopefully they continue to expand! When I went, in store staff was really friendly and had some recommendations but didn't hover (even with the store being relatively slow). Even when I told them I was just looking for a future online purchase, they were still very approachable. I had gone in to compare the regular carry on with their larger carry on, and found the regular was perfect for my needs/travel habits. I wanted to wait at least a year to do a review to ensure I put the carry on through some travel/trials. The regular carry on, for me, is perfect for a short weekend trip or even a week visiting friends/family. I've even been able to stuff a semi-winter jacket for a weekend in it. The removable interior compression sleeve has been immensely helpful for when I'm pushing the limit of the suitcase for packing and helps to push down jeans and shirts. The sleeve also has a small zipped compartment in the front, which is great for socks. It does come with a small laundry bag, however I primarily use it to wrap any shoes or boots I'm packing. The laundry bag is packed in a small bag, however as it is used during trips I'd imagine it may take up more space in your luggage than you'd like. My carry on did come with the external USB charger, however I rarely use it for trips and I believe the warranty for the battery can differ from the overall luggage. Airlines are pretty inconsistent about the battery, some will require you to visually show the battery has been taken out as you board and/or show it's been stowed elsewhere (ex: backpack). For those who often have multiple items they're holding as they board, this could become a headache after awhile. Maneuvering the suitcase in crowded airports, through the aisle, on hills, snow, and even cobblestone is honestly one of the better experiences I've had with a suitcase. Really like how versatile the wheels seem to be. The suitcase comes with a 100 day trial, and a limited lifetime warranty. However both are voided if you opt to customize (I believe this also applies to Away's customized option of your initials). I did choose to customize my carry on with a spray painted stencil design (2 rounds of the spray and about an hour of drying and it was perfect on my suitcase), and was really pleased with how well it stayed on (given the suitcase's exterior shell). I haven't had any issues bringing the suitcase onto large and small planes (Alaska, American, JetBlue, Southwest, Delta, or Aer Lingus), or stowing in the overhead compartment. I just purchased a small carry-on, I used it for my recent flight: 1. The suitcase exterior looks dirty after a single flight, I'm not able to clean it. My old large Samsonite suitcase by comparison never had issues like this one, I've had it for years. 2. The handle seems flimsy. My old Samsonite suitcase has a sturdy aluminum handle that I used for years and still looks good as new. Away handle keeps sliding back to its original position which makes onboarding and overall movement challenging. 3. The carry on has added compartments ("dirty laundry" section etc) which is a nice perk for short trips. 4. The carry on is easy to navigate through airports with its 360 degree wheels. Stylish carry on? Absolutely, it's also very popular in San Francisco. Worth the price tag (good long-term traveling investment)? I'm not so sure. Overall: Meh. read more

I ordered a suitcase after purchasing one in the store over the weekend. I realized that I would like to have the larger AWAY carry on. I received tracking information that the bag would be delivered on 1/7/26 and waited at my office until after 5 pm. When I re-checked the tracking, the suitcase was rescheduled to Friday. So, I called the customer service number to cancel the order. Today when I looked at the tracking, I was informed that it was delivered last night at 8 pm where it was left on a busy street. The gates to my office were closed so there was no where to leave the suitcase. There is a note on the door that is visible from the gate that states in bold letters to NOT leave any packages outside of the building. The AWAY store is less than a mile away. I have cancer and was looking forward to using this bag on an upcoming cruise. I will be returning the smaller carry on and will go back to TUMI. What a disappointment! Bad experience. Store shipped the wrong color and now I have to go out of pocket and spend $20 to do the return. Mistake happened when our original sales person handed us over to his "associate" to complete the order (assuring us she knew what is was I wanted.). She wrote it up and got it wrong. Excellent service with a somewhat limited selection of cases - basically 1 overall style with 3 different variations (in multiple colors) in 4 different sizes. Sizes are The Carry-On, The Bigger Carry-On (basically ~1 inch larger in each direction), The Medium and The Large. Variations are: - the standard case (polycarbonate shell)- all 4 sizes in 13 colors - the Flex case (standard with an expansion zipper) - all 4 sizes in 7 colors - Aluminum Edition (like regular with aluminum hard shell) - all 4 sizes in 3 colors - Carry-On With Pocket - 2 carry-on sizes in 2 colors They have a 100 day return policy and a standard special - buy 2 cases and you get $50 off the 2nd case. S.O. went with the medium and it worked well for our 11 day trip. They did not have the color in stock, so she purchased it and they had it delivered to our home 3 days later. Example of their good service ... Upon return as I was carrying our full bags upstairs, the top handle broke on my trusty old black Samsonite large carry-on. It was a sad day for me as I have used this bag extensively through over 12 years, 2 filled passports, and 24 countries over 6 continents (and about 20 states). Over the years I had the handle repaired and replaced the wheels with burgundy ones when one broke (easier to see if I happen to check it). IT was my trusty travel bag. My S.O. said it was time to retire my trusty case - and I reluctantly agreed. So we went back to Away to get the matching Large Carry-On to her Medium. We asked about the $50 off special and they were willing to still honor it 3 weeks after the initial purchase. The color we wanted was not in stock but likely on the next day's shipment to the store. The next day they called to let us know it had arrived and tagged it so it wouldn't be sold to someone else. As someone who has worked in retail for almost a decade, I have never once had to close the store for lunch. I understand that there might have been staffing issues that day and of course people need to eat! But nowhere on their site or on Yelp was there any indication that they will close for lunch. I actually called earlier to discuss the limitations of my warranty. I mentioned that I would be coming in and was not made aware that they will be closed. It appears that others were not aware of the store closure since there were a few other people waiting outside. Went in for a very specific bag for carry on. Although it was really busy (Saturday) I didn't have any problem getting help. They're very good at multi-tasking there. They brought me out the 2 different sizes and colors I had identified online as what I thought I wanted. They even brought out the 3rd largest size just to be sure I didn't want to go that big. I ended up with the smallest "The Everywhere Bag" in the color Coast, as I specifically wanted it as my carry-on extra bag for my laptop etc. I then embarked on a 2-week trip flying from Oakland to New England, driving up through Canada to Nova Scotia, and back. It was absolutely perfect for everything I needed. I had another carry-on bag that the Everywhere Bag nestled on top of, THANK GOODNESS, because both directions we had flights cancelled, and had I checked bags, we'd have been stuck waiting for the same itinerary the next day. Carry-on only allowed us to be flexible with which city to fly into to make our connections. And I was happy with my choice of the smallest bag. But they do have a policy that you can use the bag and then size up or down if it doesn't work for you...so that gave me some peace of mind when purchasing. It's luggage, it costs about the same as any other respectable brand, and it has some very thoughtful features that I can't wait to try out (hello built in laundry bag and clothing compacter feature). The customer service I experienced at the Hayes Valley store was what will make me a repeat customer, and rave about the brand. Though the store was busy, we were assured multiple times a manager would come help us with our exchange. The constant attention of the sales associates made us feel valued and we were happy to wait. Store manager Grant was so so kind. We had some circumstances outside of the typical policy, and Grant went above and beyond to assure me he would make our exchange happen, and called HQ to get info I was missing on the Monday after the weekend. I don't know that most brands realize the value of a lifetime customer, but the treatment I received is such good business, and I'm sure no sweat off of Away's back. I'm writing this review base on the craziness of their sale. I tried to purchase the blush leather everywhere bag during their sale and the website kept on crashing on me. Yesterday which was the last day, I tried purchasing it again their website was down for awhile and when it came back up the sales were all gone. I tried calling this store to see if they can still honor it and they said they can only honor a purchase if it got cancelled. I haven't had a chance to use the luggage yet, but I wanted to share that you should definitely check your credit card statement if you return something with them. I purchased some luggage in November of 2021 and realized they hadn't sent me a refund when I checked my statement in February of 2022. When I asked them about this, they did refund me, but provided no explanation of why this happened. I recently went in to the Hayes Street store after my roller bag handle broke while I was traveling. I was wonderfully surprised to get the handle repaired on the spot and without cost. I was interested in getting the everywhere bag because of how it sits on the carry on bag. The store and the sales associate were nice enough but one of my biggest concerns was the weight of the bag. I am used to using my longchamp bag for travel and that thing does not weigh anything at all. Plus I can stuff it with tons of stuff... but I always have to carry it and can't sit it on my carry on. I mentioned this to the sales associate. Despite my concerns, the sales associate tried to sell me the leather everywhere bag (which was around 150 more than the nylon bag)... the bag is beautiful (BEAUTIFUL!) but obviously heavier than the nylon everywhere (I believe like a pound heavier). I felt a bit like he was trying to up sell me without listening to my actual concern. I ended up getting the nylon everywhere bag. So on to the product, I had read many raving reviews about the everywhere bag and, to be honest... I am pretty mixed on it. I am on the airplane right now and using it for the first time. It's is much much heavier than the longchamp bag and my arm gets tired carrying it. Worse yet, it does not go over my shoulder when half full and so I have to carry it on my forearm (so heavy) or use the messenger bag strap. It does carry a lot (just as much as my longchamp) and all the compartments are very useful. However it barely fits under the seat in front of me. The bag is very beautiful though. I think I will use this only when I have a rolling carry on but I will not take it alone on a weekend trip again. Best suitcase anywhere for the price! Varied nice colors and sturdy with lifetime guarantee

I was a little skeptical coming into an actual store instead of just ordering online because of the reviews that mentioned that it was hard for people to get help from the workers and on top of that I am the worst parker in theee world. It took about 20 minutes to find parking in this area especially since there was an event at a nearby museum or something. Wasn't too bad I guess for SF, and I successfully parked parallel, which I am super proud of. But the stress of finding parking quickly went away since I was greeted right away by Oscar, even with the store having lots of potential customers. He was really helpful when I was deciding which color to get since I was already set on purchasing the carry on size. I was choosing from Sand, White, and Pink. He also was very informative regarding the specifics of the luggage and gave suggestions on what color luggage he thinks I look the best with, but I ultimately chose the Sand color. By the time Oscar was helping me, it got a lot busier, and I appreciate the fact that he didn't try to rush me when it came to choosing the right luggage color. After he showed me my newly purchased luggage, I expressed my concern of parking two blocks away and fearing for someone jacking my newly purchased luggage from me. Oscar was super nice and offered security for someone to walk me to my car to ensure my safety and my Away luggage, but I declined since it was still pretty bright out, but very much appreciated!! Where do i start? Super excited about this luggage had been seeing it all over Instagram and decided to go into the store. I arrived wasn't greeted by anyone and awkwardly stood around waiting to be helped. I was told they would be able to hold a large black suitcase for me. When i arrived of course it wasn't on hold and it was completely sold out. The man who answered the phone NEVER asked me to submit payment for the hold. I ended up settling on a color that i didn't want for gifting purposes only. The actual luggage itself is really nice. I am very happy with it it's the customer service that really needs help! I literally called the store seven times before i received an answer. The phone is always going to voicemails that are never returned. Save yourself sometime and just order online. It's not worth the trek to San Francisco only to be disappointed. I spent well over $400 dollars on luggage from this company i expect the customer service to match! read more

AWAY suitcases are more expensive than average luggage but I feel like it's comparing Apple Macbooks to Chromebooks. Their stuff is more expensive, seemingly higher quality and they have a really good warranty. My wife and I travel a lot so so the Away suitcase we have has been so helpful that we got a couple more. For the carry-on's, the built in battery pack slot is pretty cool. If these luggage can withstand some of the punishment I put my luggage through given a lot of traveling, so far I think it's worth it. read more

I bought my luggage in 2018 from this location. Recently, one of the zipper hardware broke off. I called the store for assistance and that's exactly what I got. The associate was so helpful, so accommodating and just a pleasure to talk with on the phone. I have successful replaced my carryon with another with such ease! I've already been a fan of Away and following it on Instagram. My husband and I finally purchased our first Away luggage. unfortunately, I didn't go with him to help him pick our luggage. He ended up getting help from a guy there. Not long after, I finally had a chance to check out the store myself. Since we just bought a large luggage there and got back from our trip. I wanted to get some advice from their team about how to clean our Away luggage and if there were any tips I need to know on how to get rid of the stains or minimize the scratches. Happy to report that the assistant (forgot to ask for her name) was very helpful. She suggested that using one of those magic sponge would do the tricks. Well, it somewhat did, but didn't really look much different. I still appreciated her trying to help though. I also love the display, and accessories and other products that are perfect for traveling. Overall, my experience was good, but not great. The store assistant was helpful, but as soon as she realized I have already bought a luggage. Her attitude changed a bit. She may have assumed that I wouldn't buy more. She became less enthused and simply just walked away. So this made me wonder if buying online might work better in the future. read more

Bait and switch. Avoid! We bought two carry-on bags beginning of August 2023. We had read many reviews, and they stated that Away has a 100 day return policy. We used their expensive bags on one trip. The bags are poorly sourced junk: cheap zippers, lousy locks, uncomfortable handles and impractical to keep open on a hotel rack. If they had been honest about returns I would have just returned the bags and not bothered to warn others, but here we are. We went back to the store to return and we're told that the sale was now final! The sales clerk referred to a tiny notice on the counter that, in small print says, since July 2023, luggage can only be returned if unused. There are lots of luggage makers out there. This place is in my neighborhood, but they never have what I am looking for. The first time I was trying to find my daughter a bag tag for her trip - they had them, but wouldn't sell just a tag by itself - you had to buy an expensive bag with it. Today, my husband was looking for a neck pillow for our flight tomorrow, but they don't carry them at all. How can you be a travel store and not have bag tags or neck pillows?
