Came here a week or so ago for warranty service on my Roller Pro. I had an early Kickstarter batch that had grinding of the hinges (annoying, but fixable), but more frustrating were zippers that could constantly catch on the corners. I had taken it on a trip prior to wear it in, but the zipper only got worse. The store provided me with an effortless warranty exchange and excellent service, and my replacement did not exhibit any of the original issues. I've used several of their products in the past without issues (backpack, camera bags, grip, etc), and I justified the higher expense purchases with the expectation of high quality and more reliable warranty service. This has been the first item I've had problems with, and the service did not disappoint. Staff was polite and knowledgeable, and the store itself was well organized. No complaints here. read more

So I'm a Peak Design fan. I own multiple straps, every day backpack in 21 and 31 liter, everyday messenger, 5l sling, both aluminum and carbon fiber tripods, capture clips, even the darn phone case. I'm going to visit the mothership when I am in SF. The store is small but it is everything I expected. Very well designed, plenty of things to feel a touch, nice lighting, and whole bunch of excited customers. The sales lady was enthusiastically chatting with 2 friends/customers. So I waited till she is done. Unfortunately she turned her charm off and was pretty luke warm, and even when I tried to connect with her during a sale her heart was not in it. May be I'm a middle aged man. May be it's the Leica around my neck. Slightly disappointed. But the store is worth a visit. read more

I came in today to purchase a backpack that I saw online. The salesperson literally tried to persuade me not to buy it. She said it would be too overwhelming for me and that I couldn't carry the 5 pound weight. How would she know what meets my needs. I asked her to please help someone else but she wouldn't listen. I left not purchasing anything. My husband planned to buy a wallet for his phone but he was also spoken down to by staff. I went to another backpack store and bought a high end backpack. TL;DR: just buy from Peak online. I won't be back in store. I was really excited about picking up a bag for my upcoming trip. I'd been going back and forth on which model to get and finally settled in on the one I wanted. Made the trip to the SF store (a little shy of a 100 mile round trip) to pick up what I wanted. Got to the store, found the bag, was ready to purchase it only to find out that the limited edition they had was the last one in store. No problem, right? Well, not exactly. You see, I was told that they have a policy of not selling the last in-store model. So, I couldn't purchase the bag I was holding in my hand. The rationale? Other folks from around the world come to see the bag in person. I explained my trip was this weekend, this was the bag I wanted, and that I came from a long way to get it. The solution: buy another color. Then return that bag and reorder the bag I really wanted. Maybe I'm being a bit extra - that just sounds like a lot of inconvenience for me. And for those about to ask about any incentives offered, discount on the other options, etc. that'd be a no. Just order what you want online and save yourself the time. read more

Lets face it. If you sink huge $$$$ into a camera and lens combo then skim on essentials like straps and bag, you have no one to blame but yourself when things go awry. That's where a company like Peak Design comes in. They simply make high quality gear that is built to last. I was first introduced to them via Kickstarter, and have been a fan ever since. First and foremost as mentioned above, the quality of the gear is superb. I own two of their camera straps and the medium sized camera cube. The design is fantastic, well thought out, and the quality is unmistakable. The strap has a novel clip in system to shows wear so its easy to replace and even with a giant 150-600mm lens it still gives you a secure feel. I liked the strap so much I bought another one for my binoculars. Down the road, I Kickstarted their new carbon fiber tripod (December 2019 is the date for its arrival) and I have my eye on one of their camera backpacks. They hav a line of videos showing how to use thier novel products, and as I mentioned above: They are not cheap but they are in effect a "lifetime" purchase given the quality read more

I didn't understand what this store was. I walked in to browse and entertain myself by window-shopping, and it turned out to be just window-shopping. I mean, they couldn't find some knick-knacks to sell so that wind0w-sh0ppers would spend some of their pocket money. Well, I thought it was a travel, luggage store. She said it's a "carry store." What the heck is that? But then I noticed they have "Open Hours" workshops every Wednesday from 1-5pm at the store. Stopped by to check out the camera bags since they recently opened a store in SF, yay!! Pretty bummed I wasn't able to attend any of their events though. Parking can be a little tricky so I recommended finding a spot in the neighborhood. The store is aesthetically pleasing, A+ in the interior design and placement of the products. I was torn between getting the Everyday Sling 5L in Black or Ash. It wasn't crowded when I went so I able to take my time. Big shoutout to the employee that basically gave me all the pros and cons for both the color ways. I really appreciated all the info before I fully committed myself to getting a bag. Got a v2 bag here and got some accessories later. Overall, I love the design of the bag and the accessories. There's a lot of features that are thoughtfully crafted and integrated smoothly into the bag. The sternum strap took a little getting used to, as it's not a usual plastic clippy thing. Staff was relaxed and unobtrusive; were knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful when I asked them for help. My main complaint is that the toiletries bag (sold separately) is not very compressible. I got one (~$60!) but then realized I only filled half the bag with my stuff but the bag still was full size. Sure, sure, once I closed my luggage on it, I can squish it more flat, but there's still something that feels off about the way that handled. So, yeah, think about how much toiletries you actually have when you consider buy thing that thing. Overall, accessories were lovely; I got a couple of shoe bags, which have worked great and are super-light. Anyway, the above complaint is minor. The bag I got is great. They also have larger luggage bags for travel and I'm thinking about getting one of those someday when my current checked bag fails. Bathrooms: None. read more

It also takes longer for stuff to ship when you order online compared to just going in store. I went today and hada great time. The store is a nice clean friendly experience for those of you who wanna touch before buy...which is often very important when it comes to camera gear. Today I went in to buy a new clutch hand strap for my full frame camera. The one I had was 6 years old and frayed from normal use. I got a new camera and wanted to just buy a new hand strap. I came on a Saturday morning just after they opened and got a warm greeting by the staff. They welcomed me and my wife to check out their stuff. They even complimented my wife on the Timbuk2 bag she got directly across the street. I brought in my Peak Design Capture Clip version 1 from 2012 and wanted to check out the new stuff and had read about the version 3. Brooks was stoked when I mentioned an OG item. I got it a year after the Kickstarter from Amazon and mentioned the hairline crack on my unit. Brooks said, I got you, and he did. He mentioned the lifetime warranty and I was able to swap out for the newer sleeker v3 Capture Clip. I'm excited to try it out. I already picked up a few of the quick release adapters and have gifted a few as well. The store has a nice layout with the exposed natural wood and bright open windows and lighting. I really liked the touch of having wood skates in the size of iPads and MacBooks for users to get a sense of the way your own tablet or laptop would fit in their bags. I've been a huge fan of Peak Design gear for years. Own their straps, arca plates, tech pouch, toiletry pouches, tripod and the everyday backpack 20l. I literally have been using this backpack everyday for the past several years. I'm not easy on it, and its held up through tons of abuse. The other day, the top zipper came undone. I was distraught. I immediately started shopping for a new one, because I can't live without it. Amazon did not have the V1 version in black, but I discovered that there is a Peak Design store in Hayes Valley. I decided to see if they could fix my zipper and if not, I could buy a new one there. Well they told me that the v1 bag has been sunset and they don't do repairs.... ...they just replace them and took my name/e-mail and gave me a new, black v2 backpack! Amazing no fuss service. I own tons of their gear. One of my best investments in 2019 is getting Peak Design gear which all come with a lifetime warranty. I came here during a trip to SF just to check out the store but returned several times (from Orange County) to get assistance with gear and also get new gear. The experience you get from these guys is pretty genuine; Sean, Brooks, & Zona take care of me every time. I have unfortunately had to replace my 45L and medium packing cube before, but it's always been a fast and friendly experience. Everyone here has always made my visits exciting with new tips and tricks on how to streamline my travels and everyday carry with their lineup of equipment. Owning the entirety of the travel line and owning the V1 & V2 everyday bags makes life so much easier. Bought the Everyday backpack here but this review is for the customer service at the store, not the (amazing) backpack. I came into the store after not having any luck finding the perfect backpack at the Timbuk2 store across the street. The store had a lot of shoppers but the sales associate still greeted us and was able to check in on us while we shopped. The best part of my experience was that I never felt like anyone was "hovering" while I was shopping, and the sales associate wasn't pushy at all when he did pop over to see if we needed any help. I actually asked if there were any financial incentives to buying the backpack online, and sensing my budget concerns, he actually gave me some different options that would help with cost. It turns out I was eligible for a student discount and I'm super appreciative to the sales associate for helping me out by bringing it up. read more

They seem to make great products, the backpack that I bought is tops however their online customer service seems to be slightly lacking. They generally responded fast to initial questions but then when I replied back with a follow-up question that took a lot longer to receive a response and I even had a situation where they didn't respond at all. This is actually something that is fairly common with the helpdesk platform they are using, I work in customer service myself. So that might be to blame, however I think it's poor service that follow up questions go to the end of the line, and this should really be looked into. read more

This review is less for the product and more for how I felt I received service at the flagship. I came in on a slow Tuesday. Dude was on his computer but still managed to greet me. I told him I was just browsing then he just continued do sit at his computer - not a big deal. I already knew what I wanted to buy so I picked up the travelers bag off the rack to get a feel for it. Another employee walked in and greeted me. Then a customer and his family walked in after me and the employees seemed way more attentive to them. I eventually bought what I wanted but what bugs me out is that the service felt cold, I didn't feel welcomed even if I was greeted. read more

I went in a few weeks ago to look for new messenger bag since I wanted to start carrying a medium sized camera along with my laptop most days and my old Timbuk 2 bag wasn't cutting it. I had checked out some of the Peak Design products online but wasn't sure, so luckily they have a store in Hayes Valley now. Brooks helped me out and was outstanding. He's personable, knowledgeable and has mastered the art of the demo. Originally, I just wanted to stop in to see the bag in person but he asked what I wanted to carry and how I imagined using it. He then showed me the exact items I might need and how it all fit together. I returned today to purchase the 5 litre sling bag. It is a well made bag but unfortunately I was served by an assistant who was in my face. Pushy and quick to grab the demo bag back. I walked out without spending a dime! Quite different from the first time when the assistant, although it was his last day was very helpful. I ended up buying a back pack, couple of Camera slings, wrist straps, Anchor Links. If I had today's assistant I would not have bought any of those things! read more

One of my hobbies is photography so I'm very familiar with Peak Design's products. I love how the anchor system works with their camera straps and their bags and accessories. I wanted to check out the Everyday Pack 30L to replace the current camera backpack that I'm using. They have a long length wise table set up in the middle of the room with the products being displayed on the walls. Be sure to bring your camera gear as they let you try the demo backpack. I have a Nikon full frame DSLR, a 24-120 zoom lens, and a tripod. I decided to get the backpack after putting all my gear in there and it was still comfortable to walk around with. The best part is that it looks like a regular backpack. I really love how they thought about the design of this bag. It's much easier for me to take out my camera if I'm walking around without having to sit take the backpack completely off and then take it out. Their Everyday Pack is designed so that you can slide one of the shoulder straps off, turn the bag on its side while you're still wearing it, and then unzip the side pocket for easy access to my camera. It's nice to have an actual storefront to try out and demo their bags in person as not every camera bag fits all sizes or uses. I love this brand. The store location was on point- heart of Hayes Valley San Francisco. Easy to find! Walking in you can instantly get that "high end" feel. The staff was very accommodating as well. They were very helpful and patient in explaining every feature from one bag to another. More importantly, I was not pressure at all to make a purchase, to me, that is very important. Special thanks to Niyor for dealing with me. He basically went through the whole collection with me while conversing about how we both like traveling in between.
