My friend and I stumbled across this store while strolling in Chinatown. I was looking for postcards to mail to friends all over the country and this place had the best deal for good pictures on the postcards. I ended up grabbing 10 postcards and paid $2.17 with tax. It was 5 for $1 and tax is 8.5%. 4 instead of 5 stars because I wanted to pay with Apple Pay but the guy had no idea how to accept it. At first he said they don't accept it, but I pointed to a big sticker with the Apple Pay sign on their cashier/register counter, and then he said he's only working there part time. read more

Guy asked if we need help. (How quickly helpful!) Yes, I pointed to the camera I was looking at, on the shelf behind the counter, and asked him what that black one was (the only black one in the general direction I was pointing at). He stood next to it, pointed to it, and brusquely and with a condescending tone left it at "It's a 35mm point-and-shoot." (Obviously, the entire shelf was 35mm point-and-shoots.) Asked him for the name, another brusque, annoyed, one-word answer. (Didn't sound like the one I was looking for. All I wanted to know.) (Hey, maybe they at least have decent prices on film.) Asked him how much for their 3-pack of Superia 400, $25. ($18 at a local dev lab, and cheaper online.) Afterwards, my brother who was with me commented how needlessly rude he was out of nowhere. (I've worked in patient care / customer service for several years, receive positive feedback/comments even throughout the pandemic, and found myself naturally helping create positive interactions throughout our day in SF.) Also a Nikon f for $500? Went home and saw some on eBay, buy-it-now for less than $150. Don't get ripped off from here. Don't know how this place has 3.5 stars. Beware of buying from this store. They don't have price tags on lots of items (first red flag) and when I asked about a bag the guy said "give me $100 cash and it's yours for a good deal". I was hesitant at first and gave him the benefit of the doubt. So I gave him the cash. He walked back to the counter then came back saying "actually give me $10 more for tax". Red flag number two. People asking for cash do it for tax evasion. After coming to my senses a little, I decided to check Amazon. I knew online would be slightly lower but the MSRP was $40! So I got scammed ~$60. I tried getting a refund and the guy refused. I made a fuss about them being shady and the lady who worked there just said "well you know what they say, buyer beware". Yeah, you're really building trust with your customers to come back. Avoid this place, don't support sketchy and rude people. Other camera shops deserve your business. read more

I take a lot of urban photos and happened to leave my battery for my Canon 50D at home when I visited SF this weekend. I really needed a battery and visited a bunch of camera stores around the area. A lot of them wanted me to pay $50 for a simple battery (that retails for $10 online). The truth is, buying in person will always incur a markup as opposed to online but this is fair, you really cant expect brick and mortars to compete with wholesales online. However, you have the benefit of trying it in person, talking to the seller face to face and walking out with it immediately after purchase, in hand if you like it and need it. So when I called Sean (the owner), he told me they'd run out of my battery but had demos lying around and was willing to sell me the battery at a discounted price of $15 (from $50). He was very honest about it's demo status and promised to recharge it for me before I arrived. The price and promise was kept. Sean was very honest and kind and patient. He doesn't rush you to buy something you don't need and will be as accommodating as possible. It's frustrating when people complain about markups when they see a price that's much cheaper ONLINE, but if you really needed something asap and wanted to be certain you were paying a fair price for an in person purchase, you should go here. I'll know next time if I visit SF and forget essential camera gear, I'll call Sean. read more

Avoid it. They are scammers. Go to samy's or fireside if you want a small shop. In this one in Chinatown they have a no refund policy and that is because they have aggressive and effective selling practices, you will regret to have listened to them. Maybe you can go if you really know your cameras, but then the trip will be unusefull, because they only have basic stuff. AVOID IT! read more

First, it is 10 times higher than that in amazon. Secondly, I bought a battery, the remaining battery is 59%, which means it is not new. The last and most important, the shop assistant was so nice initially, but became so rude after my payment. There is no refund at all. Even I show them the "Return Policy" in the law (Civil Code section 1723) When Return Policy Must Be Displayed If a retail seller has a return policy which does not meet these common expectations, the seller must conspicuously display its refund policy as described in the next section. When I purchased a lens from this store, it was with the presumption that this camera store was like other reputable camera stores with return policies. I could not find reviews of the lens while I was in the store and the owner assured me that there have been no complaints about it. After I left the store, I finally found reviews (which were dismal) and returned to the camera store less than one hour after purchase. The owner was adamant that I could not return the lens.
