My daughter's been wanting to get a specific Canon camera, which is always sold out online. Here at Fireside Camera, she found it at a reasonably higher price. The guys here are very knowledgeable about cameras, reminding me of the electronic shops on Nathan Road in Hong Kong. Worth a visit if you're into cameras! read more

Great camera store with very personal service and high knowledge. Just what you want from a store sticking it out on the high street. Give them a look for any camera needs. read more

This is a great camera store! I found the staff knowledgeable, easy to work with, patient and seemed to care about my experience as they showed me two cameras in which I was interested. I highly recommend Fireside Camera! read more

Horrible service. Went in to ask for a used dslr. Older man looked at me up and down and said we dont have any i said what about new Canon ones. He handed me one and rolled his eyes and walked away like he doesn't have time to talk to me. Horrible and will never buy anything there read more

Had a great experience start to finish at Fireside. The staff was kind, knowledgable and not at all pushy. They had the camera i was looking for and it was great to be able to try it out a little before buying. Highly recommend them! read more

Very friendly staff... talked Fuji cameras and they gave me some great tips. Will definitely return.

Knowledgeable staff. Helpful and not pushy. They fully recognize the phone camera world and are ready to talk trade offs.

PLEASE go to Fireside Camera -- we really need small, independent, personable, knowledgeable businesses like Fireside! I had a dust spot on my Canon R5 sensor that the automatic cleaning would not clear. I called Fireside who said they'd clean the sensor for $50 ($29.95 less than what a Berkeley store was offering). The man on the phone told me to come in, drop it off, and I could pick it up the next day. (The Berkeley store said that it would be 3-4 days to get my camera back.) So, I went into Fireside Camera soon after they opened this week. The technician went out and took a picture of the sky that showed the dust spot and asked to me to stand by while he tired to clean the sensor with a professional air gun/thing. He said if blowing air on the sensor worked, there would be no charge. (!!!) He blew the air into the sensor, put the lens back on, took another test picture, and the spot was gone from the sensor. He handed the camera back to me and told me again that there was no charge. There would have been a charge if they had to do whatever a real sensor cleaning is. So, I received immediate turn around without cost. And, I was a new customer, not a repeat buyer who they knew would buy more equipment from them. I couldn't leave without giving them some money, so I bought a non-professional air blower to try cleaning a sensor myself next time and some other minor gadget -- together less than the $50 quoted cleaning fee. I am pretty set with my camera equipment equipment now, but when I develop a need for a new lens or something, I definitely will check Fireside Camera. These folks obviously care about supporting photography. read more

Fireside Camera - The Before and After sky shots! - Photography Stores & Services Near Me - San Francisco, California

Super supervised but excited to find that there is still a small business camera shop in the city. I was in urgent need of a very specific lens and Best Buy and Amazon were either out of stock or need a few days for delivery. I called fireside and found out they actually have that one and the price was very reasonable: exactly the same with the big stores. Honestly I'd be okay with taking it for a bit higher price too. Anyways I stopped by, picked up the lens and decided to get the camera body there. Got a super nice deal and most importantly, a genuine and pleasant shopping experience that nowadays you just won't get from Amazon or B&H or Best Buy. Highly recommend anyone who is thinking about getting something from the internet, call Fireside first and see if they have them in stock. Price will be the same if not better but the experience is going to be unmatched! read more

Staff is very friendly every time I go into Fireside. I haven't bought any equipment (yet) but I rent equipment frequently. You have to rent gear for a minimum of 3 days, and it's fair pricing! They make renting gear very easy. Thank you Fireside! read more

My first Fireside Camera purchase was a Ricoh X-RP SLR film camera in 1985, which served me well until I replaced it with a Nikon N80 from Fireside in 2000. Last year, I bought a Fuji X100F from Fireside. The staff is nice, extremely knowledgeable, and they believe in customer service. I plan to buy my next camera from them. read more

I desperately needed help. I had to restart a Leica Q2 had on a moments notice. my daughters graduation was in 4 hours. She had borrowed the camera two years previously and left it in a box. I had no way to charge the battery. I called Leica in San Francisco for help. Unfortunately, they could do nothing for me, they did not have the batteries in stock or the charger. Fortunately, they said try Fireside Camera. In the Marina district . I did and I could not believe the Customer Service and the help. They sourced a used like a battery for $50 not a bad deal, and a universal charger. They were very helpful. I got set up. The camera is working fine. It was used for the graduation ceremony at the ballpark that night. Thank you, fireside camera and the guy that help me, I wish I could remember your name, because of your great help 5 stars for me! read more

I personally had a good experience here, but while I was here, I saw someone else being treated terribly, so I'm averaging the two experiences and giving this place three stars. While I was buying a cheap used filter ($15 for a filter that would be $50 new), the other salesperson was giving a young lady the full Comic Book Guy treatment. He was pulling out every trick in the book to make her feel stupid and lord his knowledge over her. I'm not going to replay the whole conversation here because I'd go over the text length limit, but here's a sample (the context is that she's looking to upgrade and looking at used equipment): [After a long series of exchanges where Comic Book Guy persistently suggests things the customer obviously doesn't want] Customer: That doesn't really seem like an upgrade, I have [an old DSLR with a Zeiss lens at home]. [Comic Book Guy pulls out a little point and shoot with a Zeiss lens (and I don't means something like a Sony RX-1)] Comic Book Guy [with incredibly smarmy expression and tone of voice]: How about this? This one has a Zeiss lens. Customer: ... [Customer walks out] It was like the sales guy had just read a PUA manual and decided that relentlessly negging the customer would be a good sales strategy for someone who comes into the store looking to spend $1000 or more. Truly bizarre. read more

I went into this store looking to buy a camera and the girl at the front was super sweet and trying to help me explaining everything i had to know but the guy named James was creepy and made sexist comments. I really wont go back there and i hope that girl leaves that place because noone needs to work under those circumstances. read more

Fireside provides helpful service from knowledgeable camera experts. I appreciate the help and support. I can't get the same level of expertise and customer service online. After you buy something, they are always willing to help you and give you some lessons if you need help. I bought my camera here, my lenses and a film scanner. I always get excellent service. Jack sold me my camera and he's so helpful. So glad they are still open after the pandemic. Thank you Fireside. read more

Dude I dealt with was so rude, like he hates his life and wants to feel superior to others..or something. Honestly, what a douche. Condescending at every turn, hope you're not a customer with questions or you may be treated similarly. I'll spend my money somewhere else for sure. read more

Helpful and knowledgeable staff. Very fair prices, especially when considering the neighborhood. I've been using this camera shop to buy my film since I've moved to San Francisco, and I haven't had a negative experience. I've spent a little over $4k at this establishment over the years for equipment. I would bite my tongue each time and deal with their awful customer service. I'm done now. Called to see if they would be interested in buying a lens of mine to which they responded: "Yes! Bring it by." 40 min drive later and they decline to even make an offer on the lens. Why lie to your most loyal customers so lazily?? Absolutely useless boomers. I will enjoy seeing your hole in the wall pathetic shop get gentrified in the coming years as rent continues to skyrocket. read more

I have to say, every time I walked by this camera store, I thought it was one of those tourist trap camera stores. But when I stepped in, I was pleasantly surprised. Both Patrick and Jack (and the others of the crew) are top lads. I bought a Sony A7III from them, and each time I went into the store (which I have half a dozen times mulling the purchase), they have only shown professionalism and knowledge. Also, their prices are incredibly fair -- which makes supporting local businesses an easy choice. Amazon can eat it! There was an instant rebate going on with only a day left, but they said they can honor it even after the weekend, and gave me a very generous return policy. Their store may look small on the outside but their lens collection both used and new is incredible. They only show a small selection of their lenses by the counter, but if you ask for the catalog, you'll find basically everything you'll need. I would give them a higher score if possible. Also, please support your local business especially during these challenging times! read more

Very helpful and the perfect selection of camera gear! Jack helped me compare Sony and Canon; he was so well informed about their pros and cons. I'll be back again soon! read more

Went in looking for a lens and left happily with one! The two employees in there were solid. They were super patient (I asked a lot of questions, and they dealt with me checking lenses out with an adapter to a different mount) and helped me find exactly what I was looking for at a good price. It was my first time there, and not my last. Looking forward to going back! TL;DR: solid service, solid selection, happy customer read more

I was a little tipsy on a Bachelorette trip and accidentally hit the rewind button seconds after loading my film. I thought I sent $15 down the drain. I went to Fireside to buy more film and jokingly mentioned my rookie mistake, and the employee immediately salvaged and re-loaded the roll I thought was a goner! Free of charge too. Very kind staff! I recommend 100%. read more

I have had very positive experiences purchasing supplies and getting my sensor cleaned. This feels like an old fashioned neighborhood camera store! read more

Good selection new and used. Very knowledgeable staff. Prices can be higher than online, but you see what you are getting.

Great and friendly service! Took some passport photos here and they were ready in 10min! Great quality too! Thank you!

Called in for what I thought was an odd request, my insurance company requested that I get my gear appraised at a local camera store. Turns out they knew exactly what I was talking about, and can do all your gear for $25. Dropped it off at the end of the day, and they had a signed letter for me the next day with all the values. Great service, glad there's still specialty shops around that can do that kind of thing! Looks like they have a good selection of gear as well, and the guy told me they do rentals as well. read more

I LOVE this place. People here are unbelievably nice and knowledgeable. My family has been shopping here for decades and so appreciates having a local business to visit when we need gear or help. Cannot recommend enough. Support your local businesses! :-) read more

Extremely knowledgeable, helpful staff, excellent inventory and very competitive prices... Over the years I've purchased several cameras, many lenses, and all of my equipment at Fireside. With Ed's guidance, I've gone from a good point and shoot to a Nikon D750 and a Fuji mirrorless camera. Along the way, he has been extraordinarily generous with his time, advice and knowledge. When there have been mishaps, Ed has tried first to fix the problem rather than automatically sending equipment to the factory. All of the staff at Fireside are friendly, helpful, and extremely knowledgeable. They take the time to ensure that the equipment you buy best suits your needs, and they stand behind their products. read more

Terrible customer service. Called multiple times and every time it's "I'm with a customer, gotta go bye."

These folks were great. Came in ostensibly to have my sensor cleaned and, after doing several tests, determined that they could successfully clear what little dust was preset with some compressed air as the sensor seemed clear. Avoided the charge for an unnecessary service and fixed the issue. read more

Gee, I was a bit surprised at my welcome in an otherwise empty store. I've used the store in the past, even bought a camera there, and I'd never before experienced the grouchiness, not to say rudeness, that greeted me as soon as I opened my mouth. Questions from the naive do not seem tolerated here. I'm afraid that, after this experience, my own tolerance for the place has lowered. read more

Great service had the gear that I needed, I had a shoot in San Francisco and needed a couple extra things! wonderful store!

I went here to get film developed before the shelter in place. The pictures were ready for pick up after we were directed to stay at home. The camera store wasn't open, but Spencer was in the shop for a bit and asked if I was free to pick it up in late March. I had work at the time and he ended up delivering it to my house. He drove all the way across the city. I am very appreciative! Thanks so much! I definitely recommend going here for your camera needs. read more

Overpriced passport photos. No smiling they said so now my kid is stuck with a frowny face passport for god knows how many years.
