Super supervised but excited to find that there is still a small business camera shop in the city. I was in urgent need of a very specific lens and Best Buy and Amazon were either out of stock or need a few days for delivery. I called fireside and found out they actually have that one and the price was very reasonable: exactly the same with the big stores. Honestly I'd be okay with taking it for a bit higher price too. Anyways I stopped by, picked up the lens and decided to get the camera body there. Got a super nice deal and most importantly, a genuine and pleasant shopping experience that nowadays you just won't get from Amazon or B&H or Best Buy. PLEASE go to Fireside Camera -- we really need small, independent, personable, knowledgeable businesses like Fireside! I had a dust spot on my Canon R5 sensor that the automatic cleaning would not clear. I called Fireside who said they'd clean the sensor for $50 ($29.95 less than what a Berkeley store was offering). The man on the phone told me to come in, drop it off, and I could pick it up the next day. (The Berkeley store said that it would be 3-4 days to get my camera back.) So, I went into Fireside Camera soon after they opened this week. The technician went out and took a picture of the sky that showed the dust spot and asked to me to stand by while he tired to clean the sensor with a professional air gun/thing. He said if blowing air on the sensor worked, there would be no charge. (!!!) He blew the air into the sensor, put the lens back on, took another test picture, and the spot was gone from the sensor. He handed the camera back to me and told me again that there was no charge. There would have been a charge if they had to do whatever a real sensor cleaning is. So, I received immediate turn around without cost. And, I was a new customer, not a repeat buyer who they knew would buy more equipment from them. I couldn't leave without giving them some money, so I bought a non-professional air blower to try cleaning a sensor myself next time and some other minor gadget -- together less than the $50 quoted cleaning fee. I am pretty set with my camera equipment equipment now, but when I develop a need for a new lens or something, I definitely will check Fireside Camera. These folks obviously care about supporting photography. read more

I desperately needed help. I had to restart a Leica Q2 had on a moments notice. my daughters graduation was in 4 hours. She had borrowed the camera two years previously and left it in a box. I had no way to charge the battery. I called Leica in San Francisco for help. Unfortunately, they could do nothing for me, they did not have the batteries in stock or the charger. Fortunately, they said try Fireside Camera. In the Marina district . I did and I could not believe the Customer Service and the help. They sourced a used like a battery for $50 not a bad deal, and a universal charger. They were very helpful. I got set up. The camera is working fine. It was used for the graduation ceremony at the ballpark that night. I personally had a good experience here, but while I was here, I saw someone else being treated terribly, so I'm averaging the two experiences and giving this place three stars. While I was buying a cheap used filter ($15 for a filter that would be $50 new), the other salesperson was giving a young lady the full Comic Book Guy treatment. He was pulling out every trick in the book to make her feel stupid and lord his knowledge over her. I'm not going to replay the whole conversation here because I'd go over the text length limit, but here's a sample (the context is that she's looking to upgrade and looking at used equipment): [After a long series of exchanges where Comic Book Guy persistently suggests things the customer obviously doesn't want] Customer: That doesn't really seem like an upgrade, I have [an old DSLR with a Zeiss lens at home]. [Comic Book Guy pulls out a little point and shoot with a Zeiss lens (and I don't means something like a Sony RX-1)] Comic Book Guy [with incredibly smarmy expression and tone of voice]: How about this? This one has a Zeiss lens. Customer: ... [Customer walks out] It was like the sales guy had just read a PUA manual and decided that relentlessly negging the customer would be a good sales strategy for someone who comes into the store looking to spend $1000 or more. I've spent a little over $4k at this establishment over the years for equipment. I would bite my tongue each time and deal with their awful customer service. I'm done now. Called to see if they would be interested in buying a lens of mine to which they responded: "Yes! Bring it by." 40 min drive later and they decline to even make an offer on the lens. I have to say, every time I walked by this camera store, I thought it was one of those tourist trap camera stores. But when I stepped in, I was pleasantly surprised. Both Patrick and Jack (and the others of the crew) are top lads. I bought a Sony A7III from them, and each time I went into the store (which I have half a dozen times mulling the purchase), they have only shown professionalism and knowledge. Also, their prices are incredibly fair -- which makes supporting local businesses an easy choice. Amazon can eat it! There was an instant rebate going on with only a day left, but they said they can honor it even after the weekend, and gave me a very generous return policy. Their store may look small on the outside but their lens collection both used and new is incredible. They only show a small selection of their lenses by the counter, but if you ask for the catalog, you'll find basically everything you'll need. I would give them a higher score if possible. Called in for what I thought was an odd request, my insurance company requested that I get my gear appraised at a local camera store. Turns out they knew exactly what I was talking about, and can do all your gear for $25. Dropped it off at the end of the day, and they had a signed letter for me the next day with all the values.
