Was in San Fransisco in April '23 and being from Alaska, it's been a cool spring here this year. Walking in Chinatown I saw the jackets in the window and said let's go in. I need something to wear as I only brought a vest and short sleeve shirts. Never heard of Filson, but I found a wool lightweight jacket almost right away. I am impressed by the craftsmanship and will be checking out their website for more items! Wool can be pricy so don't be sticker shocked. JUST BUTTON IT We were there at the Montgomery location getting a new trekking coat for the husband. Before we found it, I was looking at this great ultra suede type of shirt that one of the CS guys took from under my hand (OK). So we find this great jacket, about 400 dollars and I tell the hubby to put it on. He does, it fits, but he can't button it (needs to be broken in). I showed him, he trys again, so nope. I call one of the CS and ask him how to button until it loosens. He says, and I kid you not, "just button it". That was all it took after the other snub and we just walked out. I really felt warm and welcome from the second I stopped into the store by Isaiah. He quickly was able to show me the options for the different jackets that they had available, and I found one that just felt right from the moment I put it on. To boot, he even hooked me up with a free bag because of a promotional deal I was unaware of entirely. While this jacket is expensive, I expect it to last me a long time especially knowing that I won't need to do much in terms of care. Bought a dry bag on "Filson" instagram site. Turns out major fraud. Do not buy anything off this site. I called Filson, they were unaware of being spoofed. Called Customer service they too were unaware. Filson didn't seem too enthusiastic about doing anything about it. Put a note on your website, call meta have the fake ads taken down....Got it cancelled on my CC card. Great merch but terrible customer service. Don't buy on line. read more

I brought a nice Filson coat a while back in their SF shop on Montgomery St., and had the distinct displeasure of having to deal with their store manager Jay who was about as pompous & dishonest as one can be. The pants I also purchased were defective, yet he refused to do anything about it, saying they were " still wearable" despite their poor workmanship & the price $$$. This guy is all smiles when your buying something, but turns into a real rattlesnake when it comes to returns. Watch out! BTW, I am always a little surprised by an attempt to make a 5-star review look fair & unbiased. A review like that, by a supposed "General Contractor" who likes to wear Filson clothing on the job, is a bit far fetched considering the actual physical work done by blue collar contractor..... Excellent customer service and quality products. My wife got me a Journeyman Backpack ($395) that has since become my favorite backpack! It came with a life-time warranty which 3yrs later I put to use after my pack developed the standard wear. Without any hassle, the sent my pack back up to Seattle for repairs. Wonderful service. Brought my much used +10 year old bag in for a repair after a worn leather loop broke. Was told it would take up to three or four weeks to repair. My bag was repaired and returned in about a week. And cleaned!! All free, thanks to Filson's lifetime guarantee. Thanks! read more

Bought some dark blue pants here in April, and by June, the thighs had bleached an ugly brown color with very light wear. The fabric dye had failed miserably, and for $150, you'd think they'd be good quality. I sent them into the repairs department to see about a replacement/fix. There was no communication whatsoever. They sent me the pants back with no warning, and a letter saying that the pants are still wearable, so I just have to deal with it. Absolute bullshit for a company that charges these prices, and supposedly stands behind their products. read more

I have purchased a lot from this company in the past. However, when you return a (clearly) defective item, and they keep the item and your money, that is horrible customer service. The return was more than four months ago, and they acknowledged receipt of the return, that the item is defective, but no one returns any calls? I'm pretty friendly on the phone and so are they, but not sure what to do at this point other than not shop here any more. read more

This store kills it. Excellent service as well as products. I called the day before to ensure they had a certain bag in stock, there was a however a miscommunication, and when I showed up the next day, Jay, gave a sincere apology for the miscommunication, tracked down the bag from another store and did everything he could to help me out, overnighted it to my address no cost to me, Served beverages, pulled things from the back that weren't even up front, and even through in a little extra. Came here tonight for their event with Bulleit and we had a great time drinking and perusing their new store. We very much liked that they make everything in their Detroit factory or source via a US company. Their high prices show this, as does the quality of the leather and stiching. It was heart-warming to see pictures of the actual workers on the walls because it really puts a face to the fine pieces you feel and touch. The store is really big and it's a comfortable place to shop for high quality purses, bags, clothes and watches. The customer service tonight was great. When I'm ready to purchase The Birdie watch, I will be back. I really loved all of their watches. read more

I am thrilled that there is a Filson store in California, let alone blocks from my office. I stumbled across it yesterday and bought a nice heavy winter shirt just in time for this cold snap. I own several items from them, and they are exceptionally well made. I'm looking forward to attending some events, such as the waxing event where they will teach us the right way to rewax a jacket. The store is divided into two shops, Filson, and on the other side, Shinola, which is a subsidiary of Filson. I would say Shinola is more in-doorsy, while Filson is outdoorsy. The whole place seems very classy. The Jackson Square neighborhood is a great area to explore, and the addition of this store is perfect. Well worth the trip to get your hands on and try for yourself. The prices are a little high, but you are getting what you pay for. I guarantee people will ask you where you got it. read more

We stopped and shopped at Filson today. It's a beautiful store and a great way to see the breadth of the Filson products. However the most incredible thing about this store is the quality of the service. They are knowledgeable and proud of their products and, while helpful, give you just the amount of space to look around. Definitely check out the Shinola store in the same place.
