I was here a couple of years ago just to grab a drink. This last visit, I was able to eat and am so glad to have that opportunity!! My boyfriend and I are not ones to eat at fancy places but we do love a good date night once in a while and this was definitely what we needed! Some slots followed by a good meal with amazing wine! The chef and staff are truly amazing. The chef loves what he does and you can tell in his food. The staff is super nice and helpful. The food is amazing and ask for a wine pairing with your meal because their suggestions are top notch!!! We can't wait to come back to enjoy more of Chef Phillip's delicious food!! We love this restaurant! Most of the food is amazing. The steaks have all been so delicious and you can taste the quality. The oysters were fresh too! French onion soup was only decent. The best part is rodrigo, the bartender. He is so friendly, knowledgeable and an all around good guy. He makes sitting at the bar so lovely. I had the pleasure of dining here for the first time Thursday night for a Yelp event and it was AMAZING! (In my head I'm shouting that, it was so good!) The restaurant is beautiful, the staff were incredibly helpful and attentive and the food was phenomenal!! While the menu prepared may deviate from their standard menu, they have one heck of an amazing chef running the show and I can only assume that anything they prepare will be just as amazing! I really cannot stress what a great night we had and just how incredibly amazing the Ameristar staff are - to have so many of their upper management there and showing a genuine interest in how their guests are taken care of speaks volumes. I know that personally I really did not know what to expect for a casino restaurant but I could have been in a downtown steakhouse for all I was concerned - it's on par with some of the best restaurants I have had the pleasure to dine in. I highly recommend and will absolutely make it a stop next time we are up there! read more

The lobster was slightly over cooked and very soggy with a lot of water in my plate. Totally unacceptable for a high end steakhouse. My wife's ribeye was good just nothing special like we had hoped for. You never know how these Casino restaurants are going to be until you try them. The Timberline is the best restaurant I have experienced in Blackhawk. Tonight I had some oysters (a little pricey but fresh and delicious), along with a really nice Caesar salad and a perfectly done filet - cooked rare and a half, nicely charred crust, and a great sauce. Perfect. I had the chocolate mousse for desert - made in house and delicious as well. The staff is great and I like the woody atmosphere. Overall I'd say the meal was a good value. Considering my luck at craps this trip, I'm pretty sure I was money ahead. The Ameristar is a great place to stay and play but I'm coming back for another dinner at Timberline. The food was OK although kind of lacking in flavors. We had soup, salad, steaks & lobster & wine. We had a pretty good tab going. Our waiter greeted us at first saying his name was "Gentelman Jack" turns out he was anything but...towards the latter part of out meal, a busser cleaning the table behind us, accidentally dropped a tub of butter that landed under my seat & on my shoes. It took quite awhile for Jack to come around & when he finally did I asked him to have it cleaned. He walked away & returned to pass the table & drop a nasty dirty rag right next to my plate for me to clean up the butter. We were a bit shocked that someone would even have the gall for a move like that. He probably shouldn't be in that business. Management should be ashamed to have him employed there. read more

I will drive an hour and a half to have the ribs with macaronni and cheese at Timberline Grill. Their steaks are also excellent. If you're not into red meat, try their Lobster Macaronni and Cheese. The manager and the chef are usually very visible and on the whole the staff is usually well trained, though my last visits seemed to have a slightly lower standard of service than their usual level of excellence (1/5/13 & 11/16/13). The bartenders are always very professional, knowledgeable, and friendly. The price point entirely depends on what you order. I am yet to regret anything I've ordered. Add in the great decor, and it's a great night out. read more

We go to the Timberline pretty frequently and always enjoy the experience. Reservations, at least on the weekend, are important. Unfortunately, they're not open on Mondays and Tuesdays. They always bring a bread basket to start and I love the cranberry walnut bread. One of the best things about the Timberline is the service. Katie always remembers us and gives great service! Overall unimpressed with our stay at Ameristar. We made reservations here the first night of our stay (a Sunday). While making the reservation the hostess stopped taking my name to finish her personal text. My partner and I looked at each other like we were in the twilight zone. She finished her text and then looked up and finished taking our info. Great first impression. When we arrived for our reservation we were told to wait - 15 min past the reservation time until we were seated. There was a patron at the bar actively FaceTiming a woman loud enough the entire restaurant could hear and no staff member said anything to him. Our waitress Jessica was lovely. For the price, this is NOT WORTH IT. The food was mediocre. If you're going to charge a premium price you better have superior service and food. I ordered the oysters and the charcuterie board with a glass of Pinot noir - wine was not good for $15 a glass and my food was just okay. Partner had a Caesar, macaroni and cheese and asparagus. The asparagus was good, macaroni and cheese very strange with whole cherry tomatoes in it, Caesar was just meh. Will never return to this establishment. If you're looking for a nice dinner you would be wise to spend your money elsewhere. read more

My wife and I (at the very last minute) decided to see if we could get a seat for dinner. It was obviously packed, with quite a few names on the wait list and hungry, restless crowds stalking the waiting area. But we sashayed into the bar area and found two spots up at the bar. Everyone else at the bar had the same idea of enjoying a nice dinner so we felt as comfortable as new slippers on Christmas morning. Everything was nice. With only one little itsy bitsy complaint, which kept me from giving Timberline Grill 5 stars. My wife asked our bartender if she could make a Bleu Cheese stuffed Martini. She was denied. We don't have fresh bleu cheese. (hmm, and you're a fine dining restaurant)? Now, the response could have been, "I would love to, but...(insert any reason, blame it on the manager, show us you have hooks, not hands, you're allergic)." Nope that didn't happen. What happened was, my wife ordered the Timberline Wedge Salad. It came with two massive baby (Huey) iceberg wedges, applewood smoked bacon, tomato, onion and (get this, drum roll please...) fresh and plentiful maytag blue cheese. Mounds of it. Spread around the plate, found throughout the lettuce and in chunks bigger than rock slide boulders. So, what did the little woman do? She just politely asked for a Gin Martini and a few extra olives and proceeded to stuff them herself. She was in heaven, looking like Dr. Oz performing heart surgery. read more

But I also ordered crab legs which they forgot to bring out. By the time I got them I was done with my meal. This was not a good food experience and not a good value for the dollar. Came up on a Saturday and we usually sit at the bar. It was full and asked if we could get a table in which they said reservations were booked until 9:45. So we decided to wait for the bar to open up. As we were sitting waiting (within 5 minutes), my wife went to open table and get a reservation. Went to hostess stand to check in and they were shocked and didn't even apologize. Food was great, but these type of experiences will be problematic for them. Came here this past Sunday and made a reservation via Opentable. We were hungrier before it was time for our reservation so we went a little earlier to see if they could seat us and they did. The one thing that bothered me was when we walked up to the host stand, the hostess and another employee were talking and didn't acknowledge us until they finished their conversation. The food was great!! My boyfriend and I split the cheese board appetizer and a caesar salad, both of which were so good. We then each ordered a 6oz filet with blue cheese. I also got the bordelaise sauce (red wine sauce) which was excellent. At first I thought the 6oz portion would be too small, but it was perfect. It wasn't too little or too much. I do wish we were able to eat dessert right then, but we were a little too full, so we skipped that part. Overall, it was a great meal. Our server was very knowledgeable and did a great job. The one other thing I didn't like was that we were seated near the kitchen, so waiters were walking by our table on both sides and I felt like I was going to get hit with something every time they walked by. read more

The last time we went to Timberline it was great service and food. This time was ok. When we first walked up to the podium, we got no 'Good Evening' or 'Hello'. Kurt just looked at us. My husband said 'Reservation for Christina'. Kurt just said condescendingly "You're Christina?". I was standing right next to my husband and just raised my hand, like that's me. When he went to seat us our table wasn't fully cleaned yet. 2 glasses and need to be wiped. He stopped us, grabbed the glasses and huffed away, swearing and mumbling under his breath, he washed the table and sat us. He apologized and I said it's ok. He snapped "No it's not". I think Kurt needed a time out to take a few deep breaths. Our server was great. XXXX, she smiled and was attentive. My husband's Caesar salad came quickly and was delicious. But though it seemed that the restaurant was about half capacity, the rest of our food seemed to take quite awhile to arrive. When it arrived, my Prime Rib was cooked correctly (med - rare, which was what I ordered). The baked potato was huge! If you get it loaded the bacon pieces are thicker, just fyi. Not crunchy. My husband ordered a Filet Mignon (medium), when it first came it looked good until he cut into it. It was VERY rare. We had to wait to get the attention of XXXX, she took the steak back to have it fixed. You could tell that the grill may have been too hot to cook the outside and not the inside. We had hoped that a place like this would 'eat the cost' and throw a new steak on the grill. But instead it was the same steak, which came cooked correctly, however the outside was now so seared, it was like a hockey puck. The Strawberry cheesecake dessert was very good but not like cheesecake you know. It was more cake-like. And when you make a reservation, it asks if this is for a special occasion. I selected Birthday. In the comments too I stated it was my 35th birthday and that we'd like a booth away from the kitchen. We did get a  booth but no recognition that it was my birthday. I wasn't looking for anything free, I just thought the acknowledgement would be nice. Life has been and  is very hectic right now for us and I know all of us but that's all I was really hoping for especially if we were going to pay over $100 for dinner. read more

Very impressed with my second visit here. I created my own dinner by combining the crabcakes appetizer (suggested by another Yelper) and a salad of heirloom tomatoes, local chèvre, and aged balsamic. The restaurant situation in Blackhawk is pretty lack luster. With all the revenue coming in, o e would hope that there would be some pretty fantastic dining options. This is sadly, not the case. However, after trying several places over the years, Timberline Grill is the best in town. Seafood, steak, sides, salads, wine are all berry solid. I have never had something I disliked and the service is wonderful. The important thing (and I don't think people who neglect to do this have the right to leave a bad review because they had to wait) is to MAKE A RESERVATION. It takes two seconds and will guarantee a spot for you to relax and enjoy a lovely meal. read more

Just went to the Timberline Grill last Wednesday night. This is my third time dining here. The food is good - here are my favorite menu items- french onion soup is superb, Goat cheese ravioli, the burgers are very delicious, and the wedge salad. I really like this restaurant and like going here when I am in Blackhawk. I would skip the porterhouse steak - it has been the only thing so far I wasn't impressed with. The service is great and attentive and I like the atmosphere of the restaurant. Can't wait to go back for the Goat cheese ravioli again. read more

Good, but not great is how I would sum this place up. I've been to this place 3 times in the past 2 months... all on Saturday nights. First off, always make a reservation as you can't just walk in. Not that's a bad thing, just letting you know. Each time I went I had either NY strip or the porter. Ordered med rare, all 3 times they erred on the rare side. Ok, fine. But, all 3 times my steaks had a spoonful of butter on the top. Spoon of butter on a steak? Not for me. Lobster bisque soup was too watered down. Not many chunks it. Crab cakes are awesome. Def order these. Host people always act like your interrupting their conversation about Justine Bieber or their facebook status.Annoying. As for the the wait staff, very friendly & know the menu well & are able to answer an array of questions. However, once the place gets busy, you seem to be forgotten & takes awhile to get service & the bill. read more

Definitely quality food, in a casino setting. We had Thanksgiving dinner here. The Mrs. had the turkey dinner and it was excellent, with a huge serving of turkey, stuffing, several sides and desert. I had the top sirloin with green beans and fries. The steak was tender and excellent, not needing sauces to enhance its flavor, the sides were great. The down side was the wait to be seated, (we had reservations for 7 PM, we were seated at 7:15), and the very long waits for drinks, our meals (well past 8 PM before they arrived), and the check. Being fair to them, it was Thanksgiving, perhaps they were short staffed, but that was never addressed. But, when the tab for two was $120.00, it's fair to say that standards were not met. read more

The bottom line up front: Timberline is NOT a high end steak house. Just in case you were wondering. You could be fooled by the decor - mounted dead animal heads staring at you, or tables pushed by a hostess located next to a roaring fireplace and the kitchen door (read: freaking hot and high traffic) or perhaps the staff - affable, friendly but better suited to work in a Denny's, based on their tableside technique and skill (or lack thereof), or the menu prices - comprable to real steakhouses in Colorado. The saving grace was the steak. Perfectly prepared. I suppose if you go in with eyes open and expectations in check, Timberline Grill could work. We went to the Timberline Grill for dinner this past Saturday. and we had a very good time! My filet was cooked perfectly- medium rare and nicely seasoned. My friend got an herb and goat cheese crusted chicken breast and loved it. We started with chicken risotto that was amazing. There was a mad behaving very badly while we were there. After several minutes of watching and listening to him, a large chef, the restaurant manager and two large hotel employees came and escorted him out. Good for them! The remainder of the dinner was calm. I'd certainly go to the Timberline Grill again! They have a good wine list, too. read more

Maybe 2 1/2 stars. My Wife and I decided to dine here for our anniversary. The low lighting and lit menus were really cool. I had the crab legs and wifey had a steak. Both were excellent! Now, the reason I did not give this restaurant more stars is the service. For a 225 dollar tab we expected to be treated really well. 1st thing, our server never asked us if we wanted appetizers. She returned to the table immediately after our drinks were delivered and asked if we were ready to order. At that point we hadn't even had time to look at the menu. Our server was just short of being abrupt with all other interactions. The entire staff seemed to be in a hurry somewhat ruining what could have been a great atmosphere. I don't mind paying this kind of money for a meal when its something special. Unfortunately this experience was not special and we wont be returning. read more

My wife and I ate here the evening of 11/3 on a lay-over. Justin was our server and he was attentive and friendly. My wife had the pulled pork sand, it looked really good and she liked it. Her season fries were seasoned well but not overly. I had the greenhouse sand (all veggie) and it was better than expected, would definitely recommend and order again. The brioche bun was a perfect pairing. I had the sweet potato fries...outstanding! Some of the best I've ever had. Highly recomment this restaurant based on our sandwiches and fries. read more

We eat here often and enjoy the food very much. Tonight we made reservations and upon arrival we asked for a booth if possible. The hosts said that No- we couldn't have a booth as they were "specially reserved". We proceeded to have dinner and watched 2-5 booths remain open during the entirety of our meal. I pointed this out to the host who gave me a blank stare. I honestly just wanted someone to listen to me so we ended up asking for the manager. He says "Oh yes- they are reserved". All he needed to say was something like "I understand how that would be frustrating" or something along those lines. He walked away uninterested in our concerns. Luckily, our server Carl saved the day. He provided an excellent customer service experience and even comp'd us a glass of wine. I was here last night for an event and couldn't say enough about the staff and how great they were! I loved their wine selection as well. I felt the atmosphere of the restaurant was very welcoming and warm. Steak was good, just a tad salty for me but great otherwise. Dessert was unique. He the key lime pie with ice cream. Ice cream part was fab but wasn't as big of a fan for the key lime part. Overall, I'll be coming back especially when I go back to Ameristar! read more

The food was so UN-extraordinary. Crab cakes were bland (and the bottoms were burned), and the crab bisque tasted like some kind of cheese chowder out of a can (so salty). Scallops were gritty and obviously not thoroughly cleaned. The shrimp tasted just like the scallops. The flavors on the dishes were so bland and did not seem to compliment each other. Been here a couple times... First time was a few months ago, it was amazing. This time I had the Cornish Hen, and for $26, it should blow your socks off. I mean... It's chicken, it should be mastered at this price point. Was expecting a skinless breast, marinated, etc. What I got was some KFC style breast and leg with the skin still on. Should fall off the bone at this price, yet I had to work at it finger food style. The peas were horrible, almost like they were still frozen. I guess I'm really just posting this to steer you away from this overpriced piece of chicken and frozen peas for $26. Next time we'll just grab some cheaper food at the fireside, and save our money for gambling. Oh yea... The bread selection was also lagging this time. Something changed... read more

I was very disappointed in this place. I ordered the shrimp cocktail that was just ok for $14-fairly priced. My husband had a basic steak for $28....if you wanted a side it was $8 each to add. We asked for a kids menu and they presented us with a menu that had mac n cheese or chicken tenders. We chose tenders for our little 2 year old. Thought it was odd that the menu didn't have prices, but figured it would be the normal $5-$8ish price that all restaurants are. WRONG!!! $25 for a kids meal that my son ate 2 bites of. So disappointing it ruined our dinner. Never again will we go back here! read more
