Oye... this place had quite a few hiccups when visiting for a weekday lunch. For starters, they have gluten free pizza crust on the menu but did not have any in stock. They said they were "unable to get some in," which is fine, just unfortunate. Next, my group ordered a few pizzas to go, but a few of us were hanging around to eat our meal in the restaurant and ordered food for dining in. Two out of five people in our party received food, and after 30 minutes, the server came to ask if we were ready for our check. We informed her that three of us had not even had any food brought out yet, and she then went to check on it. Turns out, the food we'd ordered to dine in had been put in takeout boxes with our pizzas and had been sitting for quite a while. We did still eat the food of course, but it was unfortunately soggy and lukewarm by the time we finally got it. Since there are other pizza joints in town, I'd probably skip this one. read more

I found this place on Yelp of course! The whole set up is a bar slash restaurant type feel. We sat at the bar. Our serve which was the bartender was the most sweetest ever and so helpful. For our appetizer we got stuffed jalapeño peppers The breading was perfect and crisp and the pepper wasn't hot at all and filled w so much gooey cheese. The ranch we used was definitely house made and just so creamy. Then for our main dish we got two small specialty pizzas. One was a taco pizza and the other was the pesto chicken pizza. The taco pizzas had beans, ground beef, cheese, lettuce, black olives and this taco sauce. It was very freaking good minus the taco sauce. I definitely was not a fan of it but the rest of it was absolutely delicious and tasted just like a . The chicken pesto pizza was perfect. Like I've said in other reviews, I am a pesto lover. The waitress asked us if we are "separate" we agreed and she still charged us all together and refused to fix it. She then blamed us and said she meant that if we were separate from the other table. She never specified that it's pretty obvious to assume separate means individual and not by the physical tables in a restaurant. She got rude and started complaining how other tables didn't tip. She was not trying to help us and she told us to never come back. Which we won't. I complimented her on being able to keep a positive attitude, when many others would not have. I had just experienced the opposite experience, when checking in to the Nearby Indian hot springs. Today I wanted to try a restaurant that has coke products because the other one has Pepsi which is not my favorite. This place is great! The cheese bread was awesome and their marinara is delicious. Been a customer since they were across the street in a place the fraction of the size of their new corner spot. Bruce is a wonderful owner, kind and accepting all walks of life. It kills me that so many people talk harshly when they get a temporary server as their waiter/waitress. I get it, a small mountain town has turnover at most of their locations but Pick Axe has become a staple to my family and visitors for well over 5 years. We are elated they survived the town's big remodel in 2018-2019 and still love coming to visit even though we don't live locally anymore. Love checking out new places! Open just 2.5 months, this pizza place is housed in the two oldest buildings in Idaho Springs. The fixtures, piano and many other items have been updated and used throughout. We stopped in for a drink to warm up and ended up ordering the cheesy breadsticks with garlic and bacon and a White Margherita pizza. The breadsticks were cheesy, gooey and so freakin delicious! The pizza is hand tossed thin crust with fresh toppings, also very tasty. They have two columns of pizzas on the menu, in addition to burgers, sandwiches and salads. There's a full bar and good beers on tap, though there were a few blown kegs on our visit. Meh, it happens. Oh and Kristen, our bartender/server, was super attentive and very knowledgeable. We drove all the way from Denver because my boyfriend said the pizza was good, but the drive is definitely not worth the extremely poor service we received. my dad decided to do something different for dinner tonight. I'm always disappointed with food in town it literally never fails. I wanted angel hair pasta with Alfredo sauce. Here I am with fettuccine & all the Alfredo is in the bottom of the bag I didnt even get fettuccine Alfredo I got fettuccine with a bunch of oil all over it. & to top it off we tried to go on Saturday last week I believe and I wanted The same thing come to find out they were out of pasta because they were not going to be open the next day.
