Preface: This is not a review on their products or customer service as I was not a customer. It is a review on their attitude. On June 8th I happened to park in front of their establishment outside of business hours on the public street. If I had parked in their parking lot they would have a legitimate reason for me to leave. But I was on City property and their authority ends at the property line. The only restriction would be the posted parking limitations, which I was well outside of. At 11pm at night, I had a visit from their guard politely asking me to leave while on PUBLIC PROPERTY. Apparently, I was "threating" their establishment when I was minding my own business on the City street. I understand the need for security, but they had no authority to force someone off public property. I don't fault the guard as he was only doing what he was ordered to do, and I didn't want to argue (even though I was in the right legally), but they need to learn that they don't have limitless authority in front of their establishment. I'm not a contractor, nor in the market for remodeling, but if I were looking for tile I'm going to go elsewhere. If they are going to be paranoid about someone legally minding his own business, I wonder what their mental state would be if I were to come in as a customer. read more

You have to park on the right side of the building and then walk around to the front entrance. Nice flowers out front... Anyway, the inside showroom is small. Not a lot to choose from. We were helped by Nicole, and she was nice and informative. We found a tile we liked, but she wouldn't give us a price or sell it to us because we saw it in one of their distributors' showroom. I told her if we decided to go with it, we would send our installer to buy it and they would be forced to sell it to us indirectly. Oh well... off to another tile store in the valley. read more

Tile is not my business. If I need to remodel a bathroom or kitchen, I try to limit my shopping-for-tile-time to one or two places. I mean, there is always tile that one place has that another does not but, for the most part... it's tile. Did I mention that I suck at picking tile? The different sizes, colors, materials? So, to me, when I find a place that has people working there that are helpful and patient and recognize that I need some advice, I really appreciate it. In this case, a salesman there, Mike, was totally cool and gave me advise and samples and the 3-minute Tile 101 speech. Everyone was nice and helpful. Are their prices good? No idea. Best selection? No idea. But 15 minutes earlier I was at Direct Stone and Tile on Roscoe and I walked in (a woman said "hi") and was ignored for the ten minutes I was there. Employees/bosses eating pizza, working at computers, dealing with customers but not a word like :"is anyone helping you?" or "be with you in a minute". They might be great people with great tile at great prices (and I could have been more aggressive in flagging down assistance) but I was ignored just enough to walk out and drive a mile to the Tileshop where Mike showed me how it's supposed to work... even had time to BS about his bike. --------------------------- So, know I've been in there about four times as any one project requires multiple trips to the same vendors. Anida, Tracey and everyone else have been consistently helpful and nice to deal with. read more

This place is awesome and I would give them 6 stars if I could. Here are the reasons for this stellar review: 1) Customer Service: You won't find better. I was having a very difficult time choosing a tile and I knew that laying down samples was not enough. I needed to get at least two boxes and lay them out. The Tile Shop allowed me to purchase tile boxes for this purpose and then return them if I found I didn't like them....this is a big deal! Other tile places would NOT refund my money. I should also add that I was looking at long board floor tiles and they are heavy! The Tile Shop had someone load them into my car! 2) Inventory: Unlike tile shops you will find in a strip mall, their show room is tied to a gigantic warehouse. So no waiting a week because you want to order additional tile for sampling purposes. In my case, they had the tile right there and I took some home on the same day. Other places would have to "special order" and a 3 to 5 day wait was required. 3) Quality merchandise: they have quality stuff in their showroom. It didn't take long for me to find something I liked. If you are looking for cheap/lower quality stuff, you should probably go to Home Depot. 4) Logistics: Once I was ready to pull the trigger on the tile purchase, there was need to coordinate the delivery with my general contractor. Tile shop uses a third party delivery service and Anida was very helpful and coordinating the delivery for when my general contractor could take them. The tiles were delivered within at the requested timeframe and everything worked out great! Thanks Anida, you're awesome! 5) Pricing: The Tile Shop was able to work with me on pricing through my contractor's license number and also provided a discount because I purchased in large bulk quantity. I feel I paid a good and fair price for the quality received. In closing, the Tile Shop is a highly recommend! read more

We had one of the greatest tile shopping experience here at the Van Nuys Tile Shop today!! My husband and I initially picked out our tiles from their Berkeley showroom, then we realized the color was too dark for the space we have. Since we were visiting families in the area, we decided to stop by the Van Nuys showroom to see if we can find something different, and we are so glad we stopped! Alma and Mike spent two hours helping us, they gave us great advise and AMAZING services! They weren't pushy or impatient the whole time, they understood what we wanted and helped us built on that. If I could them *10 stars* for SELECTION, PRICES, and DESIGN assistance, I would. I met with Anida, showed her photos of the room and went over my general design preferences, and she immediately presented ideas and made suggestions that were right on target. Tracy is my main, go to person, but all of their staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Tracy has excellent design sense and knows the product very well. I find the prices to be very reasonable and the product remains timely. They emphasize tile trends as well as environmentally friendly product. I wish I can give this branch more stars! Like another customer, I looked up a tile shop down in LA that was friendly and had in stock items. We had been to over 6-7 different tile stores in the Bay Area and usually we were usually ignored or met with a slight hint of unwelcomeness. Our relative's architect recommended we look at items at the Berkeley branch so we picked out a few selections but it was hard to show our relative. We took our relative down to the Van Nuys store and Anida worked patiently with us over 3 trips to get a good selection for a whole house remodel! We had already picked out some components of the bathrooms and she helped us coordinate and design beautiful rooms!!! The whole team here is friendly and amazing!!! The showroom is clean is well organized with trim and options that look really nice and relaxing. We specifically drove down there the last 2 times from the Bay Area just to work with them and if we have more tile work, we will definitely come down here again!! Superb customer service! Our first time installing floor tiles was a success and all thanks goes to Mike who took the time to answer all of our questions (and there were a lot of questions). He was extremely knowledgable and patient with us. The best part is we already purchased our tiles and materials from another store and Mike knew that ahead of time, he just wanted to help make sure we knew exactly what to do. Classy move...a rare and refreshing amount of customer concern in this day and age! I just completed a large home remodel which included extensive bathroom tile work. I worked directly with Anida at TileShop and could not be happier with the end result. I have a very traditional Spanish style home and wanted the renovation to work with the existing style of the house. Anida acted as a personal designer, helping us find design patterns and color schemes that would compliment our home, personal taste and budget. She was incredibly patient with us, explaining the nuances to each tile selection, grout component, etc. She even went as far as providing specific installation instructions and best practices to share with our contractor. After visiting tile store after tile store, I was only more confused. My contractor recommended Tileshop and I walked out less than 2 hours later knowing exactly what I'd be doing in our kitchen and both bathrooms. La La helped me - so patient and helpful, and very cognizant of our budget, and a great eye and design sense. Other shops are overwhelming to me; 10,000 choices, but none of it well displayed/maintained and too much of everything the same. Tileshop has everything nicely displayed and focuses on the 60-70 selections (I'm guessing) that account for 95% of tile choices. They give tear sheets and samples (no charge!) and their prices are COMPLETELY comparable to other places (I got my field tile for less than Daltile at Home Depot). They carry their own lines, so don't go here if you're looking for what everyone else has. I brought a selection from another store and they helped me coordinate for it, then gave me ideas for my other rooms. It was everything and more that I could have wanted. read more

I tried Home Depot and Lowes, and found that I really couldn't get the help I needed, nor the selection. Then I found the Tile Shop. I arrive, there's no crazy parking lot, no line, and a beautiful selection of tile. Even better, they stock most of what is on display, so you can get it right then. Anida was amazing, and has so much knowledge about tile, color, and design. I had a lot of questions that she cleared up. I had her help as long as I needed without feeling rushed at all, then she loaded me up with samples to take home so I could be sure to pick the right color. So glad she did that because the colors looked much different in my kitchen and I ended up choosing something that I didn't anticipate. Nicole helped us as well as she is also a doll. Everyone there is so nice including the gentleman who insisted on loading our supplies for us even though we didn't really need help. I had fun laughing and joking with these great people while picking my items.
