The husband always wants Mexican wherever we go. We shared the small nachos with a choice of 3 toppings and others in our party tried the street tacos and quesadillas. The food was very good and much better than we get in Texas (between San Antonio and Austin). The restaurant is decorated with bright colors and fun Mexican artwork. Mexican food in Italy? Florence in particular? If you live in Mexico, or live close to its border, you probably have firsthand knowledge of what Mexican food is, and what it is not. The "Mexican" food at Tijuana falls in the "what it is not" category. I ordered the beef fajitas, my wife the pollo & guacamole ensalata. My wife said the salad was OK. I say the fajitas left a lot to be desired. The cooked portions had a strong citrus marinade flavor, there were no flour tortillas, we were supposed to get salsa as a condiment but received none even after asking for it a second time. The rice was dry, the frijoles bland. The guacamole was ok, as was the margarita to wash it all down. You may think "what was I expecting" and you'd be right to ask. Last year I would have given this place 3 stars because of the weak margaritas. This year I had loaded nachos, chicken fajitas and a corona and was much happier. Plus, I miss Mexican food more than ever. The small nachos are a good size for 2 to share as an app without going overboard. You can load it up with chorizo, guacamole, sour cream, and all the toppings you want, the price doesn't change. I found this place from a recommendation from a friend who studied abroad here the year before I did. Although we were only in Italy for a month, a couple of my roommates and I were craving Mexican food, and this place did the trick to tie it over. The nachos are pretty close to the real thing, but I can't complain because we were in Italy after all. They also have an awesome happy hour for their frozen margaritas, which was great because since we were studying in the summer, we always craved something cool to quench our thirst and regulate our temperature. When we were there I believe the happy hour price for frozen margaritas was 4 Euros, not quite sure how it is now. i would say go for the frozen margaritas if you need a break from gelato or try the nachos if you have a hankering for Mexican food. read more

I have a tradition, starting in 1987 in Perth, Australian, of finding and eating Mexican Food in every country I go. Tijuana serves the best nachos I've ever had outside the United States (I could make some cheese recommendations, guys, as well as some construction hints - uh, native Texan, old cook). A damned sight better than the nearly unedible mess we had in Rome. I could also make some recommendations for salsas, guys... seriously... Yeah, They don't all have to be "burn the flesh off your mouth" hot. Their big sin for me... Mexican beer is supposed to be served as close to freezing as possible (Corona, Dos Equis, and Tecate should all frost the glass when poured - and possibly be subject to the supercooling effect if you have your cooler set right!). Luke-cool beer is a major sin (and cost you a star!). As to those complaining about service... I have to wonder how much European experience those folk have... In America, it's Go! Go! Go! - In Europe, in my experience, You're supposed to slow down a bit and enjoy your meal. read more

My wife and I are Americans who decided to try some Mexican as a break from Italian. We made a mistake. The queso was eerily similar to the easy cheese you receive with a pretzel at the ballpark. The salsa tasted like it came from a can; and it was warm. The pricier margaritas were weak and too sweet.The chicken in the chicken tacos was dry. The beef quesadillas were okay. Visited here three times to get my fix of Mexican food. The frozen drinks are amazingly huge, and they do not kid with spices here. Got the burrito picadillo with 5 chili pepper hotness. I could feel steam coming out my ears. If you are a daredevil, get it, and it will warm your cold winter. But there are also less spicy options, just check out the number of chili pepper icons on the side of each dish. The fajitas are also pretty good by the way. I do notice that a lot of people were saying how the guacamole and nachos here are far from authentic, but I was satisfied. Gone down hill, won't return. This used to be excellent drinks and friendly staff. Now the staff is totally untrained, no idea what they are doing and severely understaffed. The food has never been good but now the drinks are terrible as well. Completely ignored thruout service wise. after server couldn't even remember taking our order and getting it wrong 2x. Drinks had no tequila in them and made with sick syrup instead of fresh ingredients. Food sat in the service window for well over 10 min as we watched the two servers totally unable to handle their tables and run food. Bartender was buried and could not handle the restaurant by himself as how can you when you are making frozen drinks for every order. this isn't wine and beer, martinis and frozen Margx is not a one man show. The cooks were beside themselves and trapped in the kitchen as the food stacked up and they had to hold it until a waiter came to retrieve it as no place to put it. no heat lamps to keep it warm. we saw food sit for over 10 min and then still be delivered to a customer! it should have been thrown away. It was literally painful to watch this horrible service and still have to pay for our terrible drinks and not get to eat anything as he never brought our order. Wanted to just walk out and leave and yet the entire restaurant is full! This is NOT a Mexican restaurant you want to go to. there has Never been a manager ever in all the times we have gone, the staff has no idea what they are doing and cannot handle this full restaurant Yet their social media is above average and looks fabulous. whomever is doing their social media should go and find a trainer for the staff. stop doing social media when you don't staff properly nor train properly. The owner is making money on knowing you never come back so no reason to train and need repeat customers. really sad we loved going here but never again read more

Yikes. Hair in food. Bad service. Not strong drinks. Words cannot truly describe how awful my experience here has been. For starters, their kitchen closes earlier than listed (it says midnight but apparently they close at 11, sometimes 1130 says the waitress), second of all the service is horrendous -- I literally yelled Scusi! to a waitress who rolled her eyes at me and then walked out of my line of vision while she was folding napkins. Then, I find a black hair in my watered-down margarita to which 3 of the waitresses laugh together about. When I am brought another margarita, I decline, and the bartender begins to drink it and hollers "This one is good!" at me from across the restaurant... Excuse me? Appalling. Gross.
