If I could give this restaurant a 0, I would. The service was very poor from the moment we arrived. There was no welcome, and the food was served cold and late. My husband received his meal much later than everyone else, which completely disrupted our evening. What was most disappointing was that the manager asked about our experience, and when we explained the issues, he showed no concern and made no effort to address them. Our night was ruined. Save your money and dine elsewhere. Based on our experience, customer satisfaction does not seem to be a priority here. I'm not sure why the hotel will recommend this place. read more

My review of Tijuana in Florence... Tijuana may look like your average neighborhood chain burrito spot, but Tijuana is a life saver in a desert of proper Mexican cuisine! I wandered in needing salt and greasy goodness after hitting the local Florence club with friends until 4:00 am on a Saturday/Sunday night/morning, and was immediately greeted by a friendly perrito named Charlie. After a week of enjoying incredible Tuscan food and wine, The incredible aroma of Mexican food was exactly what the doctor ordered. The restaurant was filled up (it was after 2:00 pm) but I snagged a table near Charlie. I ordered some chorizo nachos and a Bloody Margarita to shake some life back into me and it was the perfect amount of spice to get this extranjero gringo back into a Domenica Funday frame of mind. I ordered the burrito chile con carne and a local Ducato beer to complete the process. The burrito was a perfect bomb of flavor goodness. Perfectly prepared meat, melted asadero, cotija AKA "the Mexican Parmesan" lightly sprinkled on top, green onions, peppers, and enough spice to bring on that nice little sweat after a few bites. The beans and rice on the side were perfect partners of the burrito. Not seasoned but perfectly cooked to the exact second that would make grandma proud. My expectations continued to be exceeded. The tortilla was crusty and crisp on the top and chewy where it should be. The spices worked together beautifully. The red salsa was packed with flavor, and the bell peppers had a great consistency. By the end of the meal I was already planning my next visit or getting a ticket to the Baja Peninsula. We are from Southern California and have Mexican food very often. I would be thrilled to have this meal at home. And the price was excellent. Such an incredible space to only be let down by a half-hearted menu made up by someone who seems to equate Mexican cuisine to Taco Bell or a tourist trap cantina in Cabo. The price? Way too high for the bizarre food - with some Cuban stuff, but okay - and the service was like watching paint dry. They had a football team of runners but one server who seemed MIA throughout the night. Why they couldn't take orders and bring food? Bad management is my guess. This is a Kitchen Nightmares episode waiting to happen. Plus side? Atmosphere is great and the seasoning on the chicken "tacos" was actually quite good. But that's where it stops. Super slow service; very poor quality of food; no empowered manager on duty to make things right; and a cover charge per person to go in. A really bad experience! A female server tried to make it right but seemed like she wasn't trained to make it right. She gave us a 10% discount off our bill for the food that we couldn't eat - after two attempts to get the tequila that we were never served or ordered off the bill. She told us "(they) are short staffed in the kitchen and out front by three people". About 9 PM, three of us arrived and were informed there was a long wait but we could sit at the bar to have dinner. Neither of the two bartenders offered to serve us beverages or take our order for food as they noticed each of us scanning the bar code for menus. We struggled getting the Wifi and the menu QR codes to upload on each of our phones; and the female with blonde hair who was working the bar helped and let us use her phone to see the menu, which was gracious. It took about an hour to get our order in and appetizer of nachos to share. Another 40 minutes for our entrees. The chorizo chili con carne nachos were good! We asked for the manager and shared with a acting server manager that our two orders of steak fajitas - the meat was tough, chewy and flavorless; the bun on the hamburger was stale and hard and inedible. The acting server manager stated that the "beef fajitas are always over cooked and dry - that's how we prepare them". The flour tortillas were not served with the fajitas we had to ask for them. As we waited about 10 minutes after our fajitas were served, the flour tortillas arrived for the fajitas they brought about 30 of them and the tortillas were stuck together and not fresh. Only the meat of the burger was edible and could not consume the bun and we showed the server how hard it is. We said the meat was so tough that we wanted something else and replaced the two orders of steak Fajitas with a burrito and chicken tacos which were also below typical expectations. The rice is not Mexican rice it is white rice. The bill provides was incorrect as we were charged for tequila shots that we did not order and charged for two orders of steak fajitas instead of the burrito and tacos which was considerably less expensive on the menu than the steak fajitas. It was an awful experience and each of us left literally with a real poor taste in our mouth as if the food overall wasn't fresh and awful. After being patient and giving good constructive feedback at the restaurant; and the fact we were so kind to the staff and hungry - we feel like the only way to get their attention is to post this review. read more

I walked in to buy nachos just so I could use the restroom. I asked the bartender for an order of nachos. The bartender called the owner over, and he looked at me and waved his hand in my face and started to talk on the phone. She gave me an "oh well" look. So I said, in the meantime can I use the restroom while I'm waiting for him. He turns around and rudely says, if you want to restroom go down to the coffee shop and buy something. Well that's too bad. I lived 20 minutes from Tijuana and would've loved to see if they're Mexican food lived up to their name. Now, I still really have to pee and I have no nachos. The Margarita was absolutely delicous and hit the spot, however the food was very mediocre. I know that Italy is in no way known for there mexican food, however i was beyond dissapointed with the Nachos, and more so the Burrito. The title of this business should actually be called "Tijuana 2" since "Tijuana" is the first location on via ghibellina. That being said, go to this Tijuana. Just msg me for some recipes. Tijuana 2 is a friendlier, more beautiful accommodating version of the location on via ghibellina. The wait staff at the ghibellina location SUCKS, and I feel free to say that because I have lived here for a long time and they have been rude to me every single time, god knows why. Tijuana 2 has a beautiful interior and outside garden, the menu is the same. I recommend going during happy hour which is at 7pm every night and drinks are half-off. They make a great margarita. As for the food, portions are SMALL and very expensive. You order chips & salsa and you get a lot of salsa and one little layer of chips which kinda sucks but you can always ask for more. Tijuana is a study abroad student's dream-- but only the Via Il Prato location. Although most of my friends swarm to the Via Ghibellina location to enjoy 1/2 priced (heavy-handled) margs every day from 6-8, the Via Il Prato location boasts the same deal in a much friendlier and much more relaxing environment. Here, the waitresses and waiters are not only hilarious, but also incredibly thoughtful-- during my last visit, our waiter surprised his section with free cupcakes for dessert! We've never waited long for our food, and, even if we had to, a pitcher of cranberry margs on the rocks makes time fly by. As if this wasn't enough, the Il Prato location boasts beautiful outdoor seating, making for a relaxing and fun night. I've never had a pleasant experience at the Ghibellina location. The waitresses are rude and S-L-O-W. One time I went and was served a grande marg of the rocks, another time I went and was informed "they couldn't do that." We've been completely ignored by our waitress for over an hour, and we've been asked to leave (while still eating) because they were busy and needed our table (of four.) Don't expect much of anything here other than a decent enchilada and a pretty drink. This locations only pro-- it's open for lunch, in case you get those mid-morning burrito cravings. read more

While here on work and traveling with a vegetarian, we were in search for another type of cuisine than Italian as someone can only eat so many spinach filled raviolis. I didn't know what to expect given that it's a Mexican restaurant in Italy but hey, it's different. It's actually really good. Sure some of the ingredients are different but it's pretty darn close to what you'd get in the states. Lots of vegetarian choices & lots of drink options. This place is owned by a German man. I should know his name but I asked after having a few "Kookaburra" drinks. This place is always busy at night and the bartenders never take a break. Their sangria is made of red wine, water, sugar and fruit slices. I didn't try any but have watched them make it behind the bar a few times. Of course in Italy, the wine used for the sangria was on tap. My Canadian team member comes here often and swears there is nothing on the menu that is bad. The menu is extensive and he's probably been here 5xs so take his gauge as a potential premature comment. I've tried the chimichangas, which I'd personally pass on again and the Picco de Pollo tacos. On the tacos, they drenched the generous portion of chicken in a chipotle sauce which made it too spicy for me and there was one small cube of avocado on each taco (This is an example of how the ingredients may be slightly different). I was able to balance the sauce with the other items on my plate so I was able to eat the chicken independently but not as a traditional taco. Slamming happy hour specials, margarita specials all night on Mondays, wing specials on Wednesdays (my coworker will be returning again) and seems like other specials every day of the week -- you can't go wrong here. This particular one on via il Prato is awful. Don't get the fajitas--chicken or steak because both are not chewable. The beans and rice have been over microwaved and have that overcooked and hardened look. Guacamole came out from a pack and doesn't taste like avocados. Tacos--lame Enchiladas--it's just not good because it doesn't satisfy, but you eat it because you're hungry and it leaves you pissed off at the end because you finished it and you're not satisfied. I guess I'm just picky with my Mexican food because I'm from Los Angeles and nothing compares to the Mexican food from my home... I wish I ate a kebab rather than eating at Tijuana. read more

The service was good with some slight hiccups, but only two waitresses working a large restaurant. The food was actually not bad considering we are in Italy having Mexican food. To start positively, the ambiance and decorations are very nice. The seating area outside is great. However, this place lacked where it actually mattered. There were only 3 servers, each seeming unorganized and untrained, serving wrong tables and being very slow to help. When we were seated it took them almost 20 minutes to get us a menu. In addition to this it took 30 minutes to get our appetizer and another hour to get our entree. We had nachos for our starter, it was clearly microwaved and had been sitting out for a while. We ordered burritos which were also standing under the heat lamp for too long. It was dry and crunchy on top and soggy on the bottom. Poorly seasoned and just packed with meat which made us feel ill. After our meal we wanted to sit at the bar to watch the World Cup semi finals but after an incredibly long time the bartender still wouldn't serve us. We then went to the till to pay so we could leave but no one showed up to take our payment. We could have easily walked off. When the manager finally arrived and took our payments we politely asked if they were understaffed that night because of the slow service, but he rudely dismissed us and just said "bye" while smacking the receipt on table and exited the scene. In summary, it's a nice looking place with service, food, and behavior being the polar opposite. The 2 nights I went the service was very friendly and one of the waitresses spoke Spanish . They serve black beans and not pinto was my only drawback. Let me first start by saying that this place has the potential to be good, only if they make a few changes to the menu. Fact: no one working in the kitchen is Mexican and the restaurant is owned by a German national who lived in Mexico once upon a time. Corn tortillas is main staple in all Mexican food, not flour, Flour tortillas are a Mexican American concept. Corn tortillas are usually gluten free and should be cooked with steam, not in a microwave. 2. Guacamole is a simple dish that does not need garlic or water. I do not think what I had was even real avocado, it tasted more like a powder mix. Loaded with garlic, some sort of watery base and onions. Too much dressing, good guacamole needs ripe avocados,a little salt and lime. 3. Pico de Gallo is not supposed to be tomatoes soup with dustings of onions and jalapeno. It's mostly an onion based salsa with some tomatoes, jalapenos and a little garlic. It's was also a little on the sweet side, maybe sugar was added. 4. Mexican rice is supposed to have some tomatoes base with some spices. I was served white instant rice with a side of salty canned beans. The only decent thing inhad to eat was the dish I made on my own from the various food items I ordered. This place is not real.mexican food not is it authentic. Do not fall for it. The bar is good, that would be my only recommendation. Also, add horchata and fermented jalapeno/carrots to the menu and ditch the potatoes in the tacos. read more

We ordered queso, and they brought us cold queso without any chips, the order took forever to come in, and my girlfriend got her meal 15 minutes before mine, so she waited for my meal and eventually ate a cold burrito. After eating pasta and sandwiches for 10 days, we wanted to eat something other than Italian food. We decided to try Tijuana's, not expecting the greatest Mexican food (we're from California!), but at least something decent. Boy were we wrong! The service was really slow, and it took us forever to order and get our food and drinks. Once we got our food and took our first bite, we wanted to leave immediately! My husband ordered steak tacos and I ordered chicken enchiladas. Both dishes had no taste, were very bland, and were just plain horrible! I would say the only thing decent was the sparkling water and the nachos. Other than that, this place sucks!
