Our favorite pizza place that we went to in Italy. Happy we made the teeny trek out here in the rain for it. It seems like half of the diners here go for their sandwiches and half go for the pizza. We came here twice for their pizza. Each "1" you order they cut off a big slice and then cut that one in half. Lunch for two can be as cheap as around 6 Euro. We loved all the flavors we tried - mushroom, sausage, proscuitto and cheese. The pizza is crisped just right and the crust has the right amount of thickness. The pizza isn't under or overly covered with toppings either. Quick, simple, cheap and easy lunch. The guys here are friendly too. Highly recommended!

This place has great food for an amazing price. It has a very peaceful atmosphere and I loved my meal. I would highly recommend coming here for a quick, quality, and inexpensive meal. (10/30/2017)

So fun! A little hard to find. The nav passes the restaurant. It's located on the street with the vendors. Just a few stores away from the corner. Pizza is delicious. Chianti clásico is Smooth and delicious.

For the late night dinner on the cheap, this is the spot. Closes at midnight so you have some wiggle room on getting in. Casual dining setup where you order your focaccia bread sandwiches or pizza, then sit on one of the benches to eat. The set up is simple but the flavor is anything but. The speck sausage and Mozzarella pizza had a slight spice to add to the savory. Their sandwiches are made to order like spinach and mozzarella or the bacon and mozzarella. The menu was in chalk and from what I understood, the items change daily. So what I had one day may not be there the next. This is also a good "on the go" spot for sandwiches as they were not spilling out the sides when biting into them.

Love the simple and clean counter!

Was directed here by an old lady at another pizzeria coz we told her we wanted pizza by slices. Came here and did a DIY foccacia and it was delicious! Simple deco, comfort food. Nice!

Super friendly staff and reasonable prices. I got the melenzane picante (eggplant) and funghi focaccine sandwiches each for 2.50 E. The bread is buttery and quite tasty, and the sandwich is heated in the oven right on the spot. My companion tried the mushroom pizza. When the server cut a pizza slice, I thought he was preparing the 2 slices I ordered (2.50 per slice; price varies per topping types). However, it turns out the slices are quite large, and he was cutting the first of two slices. The pizza crust is also buttery similar to the focaccia. It is crispy and thick the way I like it. There are wooden benches if you dine in. Overall the restaurant is a bit dark. They provide sturdy cardboard-like trays covered with wax paper if you take out. This place is near the train station and hence quite a hike if you live on the other side of Firenze.

Best sandwiches in Firenze. Please do yourself a favor and get a bite to eat here. The spreads and the bread and the meat....no words...

The best by the slice place in Florence for a quick bite or a full meal, very gourmet with a nice ambiance.

For an early dinner/quick bite (630) it was perfect - good cheap food and wine, and so pleasantly quiet and away from the heat of the day!

The portions are a good size , I finished the tripe and vegetables. Ate half of the pasta and potatoes. The service was quick and very effective. From the outside, it looks like a grand, iron-and-glass structure typical of European markets; inside, it opens into a bustling, multi-level space filled with food vendors, communal tables, and constant movement. The vibe is energetic, social, and slightly chaotic in a fun way - perfect for grazing, group dining, or trying multiple cuisines in one visit (from Italian to American to Mexican!). We stopped in for a quick lunch at around 2pm on a Wednesday; there was plenty of seating at high-top tables, and QR codes on paper menus make it easy to explore all the different food vendor options. It's also a fun activity to peruse the market, taking in different sights, smells, and flavors. All of us ended up opting for Schiacciatas (large Italian sandwiches that are a staple in Florence) from Massimiliano Parri, which all ended up ranging from €10-12, depending on toppings - yes, it's more expensive than what you'd get from a traditional schiacciateria, but you're also paying for the market's location and convenience. We appreciated the fact that they shave the meat right in front of you! My schiacciata came with freshly shaved ham atop crusty white bread, slathered with burrata cheese, and sprinkled with arugula and figs (I opted for no additional olive oil, since I found the ham quite rich already). I loved the contrast of textures and flavors, though I will say that the bread ended up cutting the roof of my mouth! All in all, Mercato Centrale is a bit touristy, but still miles better (and cheaper) than most "Italian" sandwich places you'd find in the US (pro tip: save your receipt for free use of their bathrooms). The variety can't be beaten, prices are reasonable for a central market, and it's steps from some of Florence's most iconic spots.

La Pizzeria Sud is located on the first floor of Mercato Centrale. The ground floor contains a…read morefarmers market of meats, cheeses, produce, pasta, and other assorted goods. The floor above it, referred to as the 1st floor by European standards, contains food stalls and a cooking school. It's similar to places such as the 4th street market, the Packing District, and Union Market in Southern California. The pizza here is without a doubt the best pizza I have ever tried! It's a Neapolitan pizza that is cooked in one of the two wood burning brick ovens. Neapolitan style pizzas have a thin and soft crust and are cooked at very high temperatures, around 900 degrees. The crust is soft and kind of elastic. It tasted incredible and reminds me of freshly prepared Afghani flat bread. Everything is prepared in front of the customers. I was amazed at how fast the pizzas were made from start to finish. By the time I ordered, the pizza was ready in about 5 minutes. The customer has a choice of 4 pizzas to choose from: Marinara - 8 euros - tomato sauce and olive oil Margherita - 8 euros - tomato sauce, sliced fresh mozzarella, and fresh basil Capri - 9.50 euros - basically a margherita pizza, but after it's cooked, it's topped with tomatoes, sliced mozzarella, fresh basil, and olive oil Napoli - 9.50 euros - a margherita pizza with anchovies added on after the pizza has cooked I was amazed at how fresh the ingredients were as well. Everything tasted incredible. Without a doubt this was the best pizza I tried. I had been extremely disappointed with pizza in Italy on my last visit, but now I see what real quality is. Ordering is simple. Simply tell the cashier what kind of pizza you want and then move to the side and wait till your number is called. It's extremely efficient and fast. The cashier understood perfect English and this place accepts credit cards as do all the places at the Mercato Centrale.

We found Sud inside Mercato Centrale. While it wasn't the best pizza I've eaten in Italy, it was definitely a good pizza.
