Travelling through Italy my friend and I are trying to get a taste for authentic Italian cuisine period This place had a great casual family feel to it. It's clear that there's a lot of neighborhood regulars. The gentleman that helped us was very patient because we speak no Italian. He took his time and answer all of our questions. I love super sweet wine so I've been having a hard time finding anything that I like. However, this did not disappoint. It was a sweet sparkling wine with a hint of orange. A pasta was cooked perfectly and had an amazing flavor. My friend ordered steak Florentine. Came to the table very rare. She asked them to cook in the little bit more which they gladly did. It had a decent flavor but it was very tough. Overall the experience was good and I would definitely go back if we were going to be in town longer. read more

Our server did a wonderful job at making sure we understood what we were ordering and we really appreciated the extra and care and help. Truly, EVERY dish was incredible!! Small place, but waiters/owner are most welcoming. We ate on a Friday night, so when the locals came in it became... LOUD! Staff seemed to know everyone who walked through the door. During our vacation--a tour of Italy, our family dinner at Alfredo was one of our favorite meals! We took a tour from Milan to Rome and when we were in Florence, we had a chance to find a place on our own for dinner (many of the dinners were pre-arranged with the tour). I checked on Yelp and this place had good reviews so I decided to book an online reservation for 8 people (the online system is pretty easy to use, through their website). We arrived about 15 minutes before they opened (at 7pm) and were the first ones in. The staff were very friendly, they welcomed us right in and were attentive to all of our needs. I was fortunate to use some of my broken Italian (via Google Translate) to explain that we had a reservation, that there were some dietary requests (no dairy), and we had no trouble ordering. The waiter did understand English, which helped. The menu had English as well. Aside from the great service, the food was really excellent (see photos). the pasta dishes had plenty of seafood and the noodles were perfectly al dente. We all Loved the Bruschetta--it might have been the best I've ever had (at least in the top 5!). I had the Osso Buco, which was soft, flavorful, juicy, and the perfect temperature. Others in our party loved the Lasagna and Codfish with Livornaise sauce as well. As other reviewers have noted, a lot of locals come here--by the time we finished dinner, everyone else in the place was speaking Italian. Young and old, families, and it looked like tables of old friends were enjoying their dinners here. This place was only about a 10 minute walk from our hotel (we stayed at Hotel Athenaeum). --------TL;DR-------- PROS: Excellent food quality and flavors, reasonable prices, friendly staff. English speaking staff and menu. CONS: none BOTTOM LINE: if you're looking for a great Italian meal where the locals go, I'd recommend trying Alfredo. Get the Bruschetta! read more

Three of us ate here on Sunday night. The ladies serving us were fine. I ordered the tortellini Alfredo. It was awful, there was some kind of meat in it that tasted rotten. I took a few bites and was done. My friend had pasta with olive oil and it "okay." My other friend had the stew and he liked it a lot. The bill came to $58 and I left still hungry. One of my friends and I would not come back, the other one who had the stew said he would. I give the place a 2 star instead of 1 because the servers were nice. 1st friend gives the place a 2.5 stars and the 2nd friend gave it a 4 star. read more

This restaurant was close to my hotel and us pretty good Yelp reviews so I gave it a try. From the name I thought I would have tons of Alfredo choices but there weren't many. I ordered the salmon and it was excellent. Not only was my food great, every plate that came out looked appetizing as well. The server was very nice and helped explain the dishes. The menu was in both Italian and English. My friend friend ordered the seafood spaghetti and couldn't even wait for it to cool off because it was so good, haha! read more

My brother went to this place 30 years ago and took a picture. I took that picture on my first trip to Italy to share it with the owners. I received a phenomenal meal which tasted just as good as my brother described it. This is a family run place that's outside the tourist area of Florence. I was the only tourist at this place. Had some super fresh seafood pasta and the steak Florentine. Everything tasted great and I definitely would have returned if our schedule wasn't so tight. We loved this place! It was just down the block from our hotel and we ate here several times throughout the week. You walk in and it just feels friendly. Almost like you just walked in to your moms house. All of the staff were very friendly, spoke English, and seemed to have a passion for what they do. I love that! I was recommended to this restaurant by the hotel I was staying in. It was a brisk walk from my hotel, San Gallo Palace. It was closed prior to the lunch hour, so my husband and I came back later in the afternoon to taste their food. I will say that the restaurant had a friendly atmosphere. All the customers who came in seemed to know each other and the staff very well. It felt like a local spot since the room filled quickly and people from far corners of the room recognized each other. The menu has traditional Italian plates. I ordered the pasta with calamari and my husband ordered a pasta dish with eggplant. We were looking for an authentic Italian dish and both of the platters were underwhelming. The food was decent but I wanted something memorable. 1st if you are in Florence then you want to find this restaurant. It is wonderful! 2nd if you get a chance to do a cooking class while in Florence, find this restaurant and learn from the chef/owner, Mario. My family had a cooking class today at Alfredo and it was an incredible experience. Chef Mario and his wife, Luciana and Sous Chef were so gracious and welcoming. They taught us the process of making spinach and ricotta gnocchi that were pan fried in butter and fresh sage. We had bruschetta pomodore then made osso buco and finished with homemade tiramisu. After we watched and helped prepare everything then we sat down with an incredible wine (Poggio Rubino Rosso de Montalcino) and ate until we could not eat anymore. Chef Mario's recipes and food was fantastic. Truly an incredible meal. Chef Mario is gracious and kind and it was a privilege to watch him and his staff work together. The restaurant is lovely. It is a family atmosphere and very warm. We left today with happy, full bellies, arms full of flowers and beautiful memories of a great day. My spaghetti vongole was super spicy but delicious. They definitely did not skimp on the muscles and clams. There was only one waitress working on a Saturday night so service was really slow. Maybe this is just a norm in Firenze? Not sure how she managed to work all of those tables by herself! This place was also full of locals, which I enjoyed. Lots of locals passionately making out if I may add. I guess that's how it's done in Italy! I would rather stay away from touristy places and practice my Italian anyway. read more

This restaurant is excellent. As an American who had been traveling all day with family I appreciated a menu with English subtitles. They even had English subtitles on the daily specials board. Came here with a party of 6 and were greeted by Lucia who was very friendly. The zucchini strudel appetizer was amazing and the fried artichokes were very tasty. Two people had the paparadelle and said it was delicious. The homemade pasta with octopus was great. Two people had the seafood spaghetti. While they enjoyed it, they found the shrimp a little small.
