Pasta dishes were honestly very good. We got the "osso buco" and truffle pasta, which were very delicious. Disappointment came from the scottona. The "Florentine Steak" is overhyped. If I wanted chewing gum, I'd save my time and money. I'd recommend steering far away from the meat and focusing on the pizza/pasta. The Chianti wine was also very good. Server was nice and informative. The overall vibe of the place is dimly lit and romantic. Don't be fooled by how good the steak might look in the photos attached. Amazing evening in Florence. Host, who also served as our waiter, was good humored, accommodating, and provided a much needed series of recommendations. For appetizers, we had anchovies and burrata with crostini, as well as the 'rocket' salad, and added a serving of truffle pasta, which was the perfect balance to the other apps. This place is the picture I painted in my mind of an Italian restaurant in Italy. Beautiful, dark, warm, moody but inviting atmosphere. We shared several items. First was the Pasta fresca al tartufo (fresh homemade pasta with seasonal white truffle), buratta and tomato salad, serviced as is without adornment or seasoning. Next, the Polpo, patate al limone e curcuma (Octopus with potatoes and Greek yogurt sauce), which was fantastic. Not the usual, very subtle spices, lightly grilled, and I wasn't sure when I read it on the menu, but the acid of the yogurt, surprisingly delicious. Our final dinner selection was Pappardelle all'uovo fatte in casa, ragù di chianina al ginepro (Fresh homemade pasta Pappardelle with juniper Chianina beef ragout), the pasta was perfectly al denté, the sauce rich but not heavy for a ragout. We ended the night with two wonderful desserts, the hazelnut crème brûlée, and the other was a delicious Chantilly crème something, I can't recall the name, but I could eat it every day. Is an high end restaurant if you like the Tuscany famous steak. This restaurant has two part. One is the mid range food is affordable to many like pizza. The other part is the steak restaurant with nice seating and decoration. The only thing we here is for - Florentine Steak. This their pride and proud for the menu. Many come here for that. They may sale other cut. But this cut is the best. I could have give them five stars but they did not cut the steak in front of me. That deduct one star due to experience of the restaurant. They cut the steak for every table except ours. The steak is well cook and marinate. We also have the truffle pasta with meat sauce. It is delicious to have the food here. Love the food here. Do NOT go here for the steak Florentine! Was very excited to go by a recommendation of a local business. I think they should stick to pizza. The steak was not hot, tough and chewy and a complete disappointment. Tratoria Dall Oste blew these guys out of the water. The same wine I ordered there was $50 more expensive here as well. Sent the steak back and order a pasta with Ragu that was mediocre. When I went to the bathroom they had a window into the kitchen. Some young inexperienced kid was cooking the $90 steaks and the chefs were doing misc things. You could tell he had no idea what he was doing. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. read more

We sat outside on the patio and indulged in two mind-blowing wood fired pizzas. My husband and I were in Florence for our honeymoon and our AirBnB host suggested this place for pizza. It did not disappoint. We shared the Norcina and the house favorite, Torcicoda. We were in awe of the flavors. We didn't know pizza could taste this good!!! Great prices, service was attentive and it's on a side street of a piazza so you don't have to deal with annoying tourists watching you eat. Wow - best dinner we had in Florence! We wanted pizza and steak so we sat on the patio which allowed us to order from both menus. 4 of us shared 2 pizzas, a steak and sides. The margherita pizzas - one with ham - were perfect. The bisteca florentina was amazing. Charred and flavorful - so good. The roasted potatoes memorable. I recently had dinner at Torcicoda which I had heard mixed reviews from. Some friends told me that it was overpriced and not special and others told me that they loved it, top pick. Obviously the truth normally is somewhere in the middle but I really did enjoy my meal there but it didn't get five stars for a reason. The ambiance is quite impressive, big enough for groups, they have different sections, including a fancier restaurant (where we were) and a pizzeria serving artisan beer which my friends have told me is really good. I appreciated the welcome prosecco and taste from the kitchen, a wonderful marinated tuna carpaccio with pomegranate. It's little details like that which make a dinner out into an experience. I ordered the antipasto of foie gras mouse, like a mille-foglie with an apple compost which was quite simply excellent. We went for the bistecca della fiorentina (a big ass steak) which comes in three different formulas, we chose the middle-priced version. The wine we chose was a morellino di scansano riserva which I also have to say, was spot on. But we chose it, not the waiter, since his suggestion cost 130 euros and I am not kidding. In fact my only issue with what have been an otherwise perfect experience was that they really tried the 'upsale' here. I mean I get it, probably their management advises them too, but I guess I have been spoiled in Florence with waiters always suggested something more reasonably priced, not always the most expensive option. I get that the pricey steak (like kobe) was massaged for 40 hours or whatever but unless it was going to be a 'good lay' I knew we could spent about 50 euros and still eat something excellent. Overall, I liked it, I would go again but I would suggest that they work on that 'hey we assume everyone is rolling in money' approach ;-) read more

This is a difficult review to write. The food was great but I didn't enjoy the experience. Cucina Torcicoda is pretty upscale and the decor is striking but when we were there they had the volume of the music so high that it was hard to talk. The music was modern pop which seemed totally in appropriate for the elegant image they appear to be trying to achieve. Our server was overly friendly to the point of making us uncomfortable. The food itself was very good. We started with a tomato and arugula salad in which the greens were nice a peppery. We followed that by a creamy risotto for me and salt cod for my wife. My wife in particular like her fish served with al dente vegetables and a white sauce. We finished by sharing an outstanding hazelnut creme brûlée. Great food and great service! The waiter was incredibly helpful, making multiple suggestions that really improved our experience. Everything was great from the starters to the main course. Dessert was fantastic including a tiramisu that they make on the spot when you order it. Best tiramisu ever! Only negative was very funky 70s music it was way too loud. Highlights here is the old fashioned Florence ambiance - the friendly, attentive service and the wonderful red and white table wines. The belief here is there are no (and I mean no) bad red wines in Italy. Seated at a cozy, comfortable table for three our starters included a wonderful Bruschetta selection with fresh tomatoes and ricotta cheese. Also included - delicious olives. Note: I am not an olive fan - but the olives in Italy stand alone. Shockingly tasteful - a terrific surprise on this trip. The main courses - however - were surprisingly average. Cucina Torcicoda is defined as an Italian Steakhouse. My son and I selected the suggested Italian T-Bone for two. Cooked medium as requested we found the steak a bit too fatty - even for a T-Bone. The pasta bolognese was fresh, good but not outstanding. Uniqueness was lost. Perhaps expectations were too high. A Refreshing Italian Ice dessert followed by a slightly weak espresso finalized a meal which after a strong start fell below the wonderful scenic surroundings of this handsome restaurant. read more

While making reservations I especially insist on that I am to eat pizza and my husband will eat Fiorentina steak. The lady made reservation for bistro part. At 7pm we sat at our table in bistro. my husband ordered steak and I asked for pizza menu. The waiter got crazy! He said "we can not sit there and eat pizza. He will check pizzeria part if there is an empty table he will take us there, etc etc." this was very unprofessional and unfriendly. I specifically mentioned what we will eat during reservation! So, we were so tired and didn't want to change table. I ended up ordering a steak. It was such a disappointment. Half of the steak was so hard to chew that my jaw is still aching next morning! I read in Yelp! waiters are friendly, let me tell you; they are all pretending. Our table was close to kitchen and we had a chance to observe their chats and facial expressions closely. I'll say this...the Torcidada pizza is the best pizza I have ever tasted. Simply delicious and perfectly made. The combination of ingredients could not have complimented each other more. I had an opportunity to try both the Osteria and the pizzeria and though the Osteria offered very flavorful meals, I would go back for the pizza. If you find yourself in La Firenze, you should give the pizzeria a shot. I don't think you'll be disappointed. read more

Sadly, just OK. The restaurant is lovely and the staff is friendly but VERY slow. My pasta- fusilli with sea bass - was very disappointing: very bland tomato sauce with three tiny sticks of dry, flavorless sea bass thrown on top. There was no effort even to make the fish part of the dish, but it was laid on top like an afterthought. I would have done as well with store- bought pasta and a jar of pasta sauce. My companion's steak was quite good, though. While the servers were friendly, it should never take 30 minutes and three requests to get a check. If you go, don't bother with the overpriced pasta, but you may do fine with a steak. They also have a pretty good wine list with many reasonably- priced selections. read more
