Tides Inn is so close to everything you need in Port Townsend, the ferry to whidbey island, the restaurants in town, and the coffee shops. We recently spent a night here between Olympic National Park, and Whidbey Island. The room was very well priced for what you receive... the buildings seem to be on the older side, and could use a paint job, but the room was clean. Being able to see the ocean from the room was a nice touch. I love a room that is not carpeted and this fit the bill. If we were in Port Townsend again, we would definitely stay here again read more

Cute motel-like stay. We booked a private deck. I think slightly pricier than other stays nearby but that's to compensate for the beach-like vibes and water gazing. There's a younger lady working afternoons and evenings who was super sweet and a pleasure to chat with. She helped us check in seamlessly. On the flip side, an older aged lady worked mornings and was very sassy with poor customer experience. We asked for room service to tidy up and change the sheets and her irritation spread to us. She really didn't want to talk to us or write our information down. Showers were mediocre because the setup quite frankly sucked. The walls are tight and the shower head doesn't have a good range of motion. That means the water is constantly spraying your head and it's hard to clean the lower body. Walls were a bit on the thinner side, so noise is audible but not too bad. read more

I'd give our stay at the hotel a 1 out of 5. There were just too many little things that added up to make it a mediocre stay at best. Even though check-in is at 4:00 pm, we were told our room still needed to be cleaned and we had to wait. Why if check-out is at 11:00 am is the room still not ready by 4:00 pm? The room wasn't even fully cleaned. There was someone's leftover food still in the mini fridge. Also, while my husband was checking us in, the front desk woman told my husband he was from her favorite country after seeing his ID. She thought he was Indian. He corrected her and said he was from Laos. I wonder if she would have said something like that to a white person checking-in? I don't think she would. The sliding door to the bathroom kept getting stuck and wouldn't fully open or close. It was quite frustrating to have to lift the entire door and try to get it back on the track so it could close properly when you needed to use the restroom. The wifi was atrocious. It was slow and would keep disconnecting. Anything played on the phone would buffer forever until it was using 5G. Overall, it was not a good experience. We will not be going back to that hotel again. We visit Port Townsend regularly but we will be skipping the unfortunate experience we had this time. read more

We booked the Premium King Room. Which was very spacious and clean. The view was beautiful, right by the oceanside which brightens up the room during the day time. We checked in late due to some issue with our trip, but Skeeter stayed and waited for us to arrive. Given that he had to stay late, past his shift, he was super nice and understanding. Definitely felt welcomed with his positive energy! We were really grateful for him staying beyond his shift to wait for us, it made our long day better at the end. Paid hundreds of dollars for one night at the Tides Inn over Memorial Day Weekend. The room was tired and "average", but fairly clean. We were there for the view & it did have a great view. Also close to town. However, no hospitality whatsoever. No "hello" or "welcome" when we checked in with the old woman at the front desk and no "thank you" when we checked out. Any question was an inconvenience. Not sure why the old woman is working there, as it is obvious she doesn't enjoy people. I am guessing nearly all of the negative reviews are related to the not so pretty motel-rooms vs. the suites. The suites are quite lovely and the balconies in these rooms are directly over the water. My husband and I booked a two-night, waterfront deluxe suite in hopes of enjoying the fresh sea air and views from the balcony in close proximity to downtown Port Townsend. As we approached the hotel, we couldn't help but notice a peculiar sight on the second floor. One of the rooms was being used as a hoarder-style floor-to-ceiling storage space for cardboard boxes. How unprofessional and unsightly! Not exactly the welcoming atmosphere one would expect from a supposedly reputable establishment. The front desk staff took unprofessionalism to a whole new level. One of the front desk staff, during every interaction, shamelessly devoured his meals while supposedly assisting guests. It was beyond disrespectful and made me question the basic principles of hospitality. Is it too much to ask for a modicum of professionalism and common courtesy? He was also speaking inappropriately to another staff member in front of us. He had his (super sweet and cute!) dog in the reception area wandering around and interacting with guests. This isn't something we minded at all as we love dogs, but it might make some guests uncomfortable. Entering our room was a mixed bag; the view is breathtaking, and the initial impression is great. But once we started unpacking it was abundantly clear that cleanliness was not a priority for this establishment. There were cobwebs, urine stains and hair around the toilet, the floors hadn't been cleaned; just grime throughout the entire room, and the balcony was very dirty with spider webs, spiders and other insect 'nests' on the chairs and balcony itself. Another example of improper cleaning was finding a previous guests' clothing in the bedside drawer. On our way back from dinner, we picked up various cleaning supplies and cleaned all surfaces so we wouldn't have to find another room on the holiday. One should not have to question their safety and hygiene while staying at a hotel. Imagine booking a hotel room with the intention of enjoying the fresh air outside, only to be met with clouds of smoke from adjacent room guests barbecuing on the patio! The noxious fumes rendered any outdoor activities impossible, leaving us trapped inside like prisoners. We brought it to the attention of the front desk agent who had no constructive response. Surprisingly, the bed and linens were spotless! We check for bedbugs and stains and found this bed to be one of the cleanest we've ever seen. The bed was also very comfortable. The sweeping views of the Quimper Peninsula were beautiful. There seems no better place to enjoy the sea birds, wildlife and the boats come in and out of the harbor! We enjoyed walking along the rocks and beach at low tide. The location was great for this! In conclusion, our stay at The Tides was not ideal. From the sight of a room being used for storage to unprofessional staff, dirty rooms, neglected items, and a smoke-filled atmosphere, many aspects of this hotel failed to meet the most basic expectations. The view rooms are feet from the water and I am listening to the gulls as the day starts. If you get one of the first floor rooms adjacent to the lobby you will hear talking and lobby noise until 8:30/9:00PM. The older rooms are dark. The room was clean, but the windows need to be washed. When we first arrived at 5:30, the desk clerk just wouldn't quit talking. It took far too long to get our keys and head to the room. At the room, we discoverd that it had not been cleaned! Back at the desk, she was apologetic, but once again she just wouldn't stop talking and making excuses. We finally managed to communicate to her we'd go to dinner so she could get the room cleaned. After dinner, the room had new towels and linens, but otherwise had seen only a minimum cleaning. Certainly not what you'd expect for over $300 per night. Another big problem was the two overflowing and very stinky garbage cans outside the entrance to the room. These cans stayed there the whole two night of our stay. Icky. See the picture. As we checked out, I made it clear we were not happy. All the desk clerks would do is say we had to call the manager on Monday, which I did. I got the same woman that checked us in. Turns out she is the front desk manager. She admitted that there were problems, and we'd need to talk to the general manager. However, she just started making excuses and then would not stop talking. Would we stay here again? Possibly. Are there a lot of issues to consider? Yes. This is basically a Motel 6 with a beautiful view. I booked this room online and was very careful to select the PREMIERE Suites and not the rooms in the older building (HUGE DIFFERENCE). It came to 173.00 and I received confirmation of what I had booked. When I showed up to check in we were given keys to a room in the older building and upon walking in were immediately discouraged by the dark, dank, musty look of the room. It was not what we booked. I went back to the front desk and they advised "for a nominal fee" they could give us the room I thought we were giving (25.00). This truly felt like a "bait and switch". The guy at the front desk was very nice and let us check in and out an hour early/late, so that was nice of them to do. It was a special occasion so I agreed to this. As we walked to our room it was obvious that this is a old property and not much has been done for upkeep, remodeling or improvements. There was grass growing out of the gutters and chipped paint on the exterior and interior. The room had a beautiful view but there was bird poop on the windows and balcony (to be fair it is probably hard to keep clean 100 percent of the time since they are right on the water and cant keep all the birds at bay). The jacuzzi tub was very nice and large but there were several features that did not work (cascading waterfall, shower head, and the button for the jets was broken). We were asked not to use jets after 10 due to quiet hours which was somewhat inconvenient. There was a blood stain on the sheets. They smelled clean and I am sure they had been washed but just get rid of them if you can't bleach a stain like that out. There were two lights burned out in the bathroom and more stains on the towels. So, to sum it up. If you are looking for a fireplace and jacuzzi with a fantastic view and are willing to look past the fact that this really a motel 6, 2 star, quality place and not a 4 or 5 star resort, this place might be a great fit. There were no resort fees or parking fees, which was nice. There are not a ton of hotels in Port Townsend and very limited hotels on the water. So I guess you pick and choose what is important to you. I expected more for the price. If the rates were ever lower, I would consider coming back up for a stay, otherwise I would probably choose another hotel. read more

A little gem down the water 2 minutes from the downtown area. This place was very nicely renovated, super quiet and has amazing water views! The bed was the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in! Room lighting is not romantic/relaxing (too hard/stark), and can be remedied by putting a plastic grocery bag over them temporary - so only suggestion would be the lightbulbs should be swapped out for warmer/softer LEDs, but everything else was splendid! This may be the noisiest hotel I've ever stayed in! The ice maker in the hall ran all night. Compressor noise plus dropping ice yet, there was no ice available this morning. There was a constant parade of people throughout the night and early morning, talking loudly dragging baggage and repeatedly slamming the exterior door. Our room, 134 is situated between the hall and the street so, add street traffic/noise to the equation and it made sleep impossible even for a sound sleeper. One of my worst ever hotel experiences. UPDATE: I attempted to contact the owner, Bob Young Yoon, to rectify these issues, but I was never able to get a reply. This shows to me that the owner is fully aware of the state of the establishment and has chosen to lure travelers into a place that does not present itself as advertised. Staying at a hotel should be an enjoyable experience, but when I recently stayed here, it was anything but. The location was great, and the staff were friendly enough upon arrival. However, I soon discovered that their room card system had gone down due to their service provider's server crashing, and they would have to let people into rooms manually. This meant that after spending money on this room, we would have to wait 5-10 minutes before being allowed in our room - not exactly what you expect from a hotel stay! What made matters worse was the lack of hospitality shown by management when asked if there could be any discount due to the key card issue not being communicated before arrival; all we got back as an answer was, "You'll have to ask the owners" which is hardly reassuring for anyone who doesn't know them personally! All in all, then it's fair to say that this particular accommodation simply wasn't worth what we paid for it, no matter how good its location may have been or how friendly its staff appeared initially. In conclusion, then, while hotels can offer great experiences with convenient locations and helpful staff members - sometimes they just don't live up to expectations set out by customers wanting more value for money than they are getting offered. In my case specifically, staying here certainly didn't prove worthwhile given issues with key cards not being communicated beforehand combined with little willingness from management regarding discounts offered afterward - making me wish I'd chosen somewhere else instead! read more

We stayed at the Tides once before, it wasn't great but we decided to give them another chance. I'm sorry we did. BTW, what you see in photos about their "updated"rooms is NOT what you get. Honestly, the room was filthy and obviously had not had a deep cleaning for a long time. Dresser had sticky black film on the outside, inside drawers were never wiped down either. The microwave had a glob of I don't know what in the middle of it and entire inside top of microwave was crusted with old food. They use a FABRIC shower curtain which they do not replace in between room stays. The water scum and dirt comes up about four inches from the bottom..ewww. If it was vinyl they could clean it but it is not. Shower floor not very clean either, this is what we experienced last time. Had to ask them to take it down and replace the shower curtain. Oh, I'd like to add, absolutely not a single piece of art anywhere. As soon as we got into the room I had to call the front desk..(on their mobile phone number because the room phones don't work!) and we got a very begrudgingly response with the from desk person coming to see for herself, then a very young housecleaner (?) making a poor attempt to clean things up. And BTW, not one apology for this at all, not one offer to comp in any way. Take my advise, stay elsewhere. read more

Pictures show a pristine looking hotel, however when we arrived the place looked a little more run down and in need of maintenance. That's okay, it's not what's on the outside that always counts! The bedding and towels were all clean, however the windows had hand prints and coffee stains on the inside(not just a little). The walls were pretty disgusting, there was an obvious dried louggie on the wall in the bathroom as well as other easy to clean surface stains of unknown origins. Hand prints existed on the walls above the hot tub. We were pretty disappointed. We brought it up to an employee at the check-in counter when we checked out and she seemed genuinely defeated and upset about the situation. She said out of state corporate owns this place now and they don't put any work into keeping it nice. Overall we had a great time, fireplace and hot tub were really great. Hot tub was missing buttons and the shower attachment didn't work, went to desk and the person said "those things don't work and that new management didn't get assertions to fixing things"" Then when leaving we were cleaning our things from the fridge in the closet and discovered someone had left behind there "adult toy thingy" yes right there in plain sight. There were bed bugs in the hotel room. Not just one or two, many bed bugs. I have attempted to include pictures of the bugs and some bites on my arm. My wife and I checked in at 9pm and we had to abandon the hotel room around 1am. We went back the next day to cancel our stay and while our stay was fully canceled (no charge), the manager Charles only spoke to me, only shook my hand etc even though the reservation was in my wife's name. So, during these trying times, when things are scarier than ever, especially things like residing away from your home in places that were "cleaned" by total strangers, I slowly found more and more evidence or a truly sub-par job of cleaning, so much so that the idea that this was even begun to be sterilized is beyond laughable - and beyond credible... It started with my in-room jacuzzi, the one that we paid a pretty penny to have included, for the novelty and relaxing fun to be had, or so we thought, and the things that came out to see me when I filled it. A quick double-check before I hopped in - I have a compromised immune, what can I say?! - had me gagging as I realized the tiny, bloated corpses of definitely 4 fleas and one blob that was flea-ish in appearance were bobbing along on the surface of my quasi-spa... Then I realized that back at check-in, I had immediately noticed some dried *food(?)* on the bedspread. I chose to shrug this off, as I was caught up in the romantic fun of the room, so it had the majority of my attention at that time. Now, seeing the gross out bug fest in the tub had me triple checking the bed for bedbugs or anything else I might find, and, lo and behold, folded onto the underside (the "probably-would-remain-unseen" underside) of the bedspread, there was a huge area of crusty, at one time foamy, now dried, substance of mystery origination chillin' and enjoying his cozy location, all tucked in nice to MY bed! Where I intended to snuggle in and sleep! At least I had up to that point... Of course, top it all off with this particular hotel has nobody on site after hours, just an emergency number to call, so demanding a change in rooms is unavailable, not to mention, I doubt the other rooms would be much better, if this is the standard to "cleanliness" they're working towards, anyways. Also, upon further investigation, both of the shams that match the spread look as though they haven't been washed in quite some time, sporting traces of foundation, hair and face oiliness (I'm pretty sure, anyways) and what I can only pray was traces of drool and not straight up jizz. Refreshingly, the remainder of the sheets and pillow cases were starkly clean. We paid over $150.00 for the night here, this is ludicrous. I cannot even explain how livid I am that I cannot even address this with management until morning because no one works nights here... Ugh... Thanks, Tides Inn and Suites, for making me feel really secure in your "additional efforts" during these times of duress.... Oh, and I don't have photos of the fleas from my bathroom because my boyfriend, in an attempt to calm me, had used his (bare!eww!) hand to wipe away the evidence I had just labored to pull from the great body of water and pile upon the tiled shores... I wasn't expecting a lot from the Inn that was made famous by being in the Officer and the Gentleman but boy was I wrong. The woman at the reception desk was very friendly and a couple of young people were in front of my inquiring about jobs and she looked over their résumés, she found a typo on the young ladies and told them that she would give it to the appropriate person in the morning. When she was finished with them she apologized to me about the wait. I am happy to see anyone treat young people with respect and take an interest in them. The room is fantastic! We had a lower floor corner room (#105) which features king and twin beds, a jacuzzi tub, a well appointed bathroom with a rain shower, gas fireplace, AC, and a small deck looking at the Straight of Juan de Fuca. The view is amazing and I wish I took pictures of the room before we messed it up. They are not currently offering breakfast but their are plenty of options in town. A great view doesn't make for a great hotel. This place has a lot of potential but too little attention to too many details made our stay disappointing and even frustrating. Considering the website hype and rates, I am underwhelmed. I shouldn't have to ask to get the fireplace pilot light lit, I shouldn't have to ask for a roll of toilet paper, I shouldn't have to wonder what the mysterious stain is on the sheets, I shouldn't have to try and fix the bathroom door that doesn't latch, I shouldn't have to enter the room at 52 degrees to find the heat turned off, I shouldn't have to ask for more towels because there are only two in the entire room, I shouldn't have to wonder why the bar of soap has to be balanced on the shower door handle, I shouldn't have to ask the manager why there is a lot (a lot!) of hair in the jacuzzi and I shouldn't have trusted that this place had enough hot water to actually fill the jacuzzi but yes, the view is spectacular. read more

This is one of the nastiest places we have ever stayed. The pictures listed on website are not what this is. Maybe the reviews that are good are from the best rooms available but what we got is almost not livable. I killed 4 spiders within 10 minutes of entering the room. There is black mold on the shower and the bathroom smells like sewage. The carpet is stained and torn in multiple places. The furnishings are easily 10+ years old. It smells of mildew everywhere. The hot tub outside which doesn't work is disgusting. Booked through booking.com for $93. I wouldn't stay here for $9.30 again. Booked because of the views from the balcony, which itself is unsteady and not safe. Not sure how the health department can let this place stay open. I'm not ranting to cause a scene on the reviews of this place I assure you. It is literally that bad. Do yourself a favor and drive farther or sleep in your car. Nothing about this booking is worth it. Breakfast is bagels and bread with coffee only.. Nothing else. read more
