The Thunderbird has an amazing desert garden in the central courtyard. We came in early July and everything was blooming and beautiful.

The rooms are simple but very nice. Concrete floors are great. They're nice and cool to offset the desert heat. Don't expect room service or fancy things. Its charm comes with its simplicity. The wireless was great and the water pressure was wonderful in the shower. There are other hotels in town. A couple of fancy ones, but I think if I were to come back to Marfa, I'd choose to stay here again.

Great price and great place to stay! We got lucky and landed a room here after deciding at the last minute to come to Marfa. The room was so cute and had everything we needed. The products included were something you'd expect to find at a luxury hotel. The office to check-in is across the street where they also sell souvenirs and have maps of the ton. The customer service at check-in was completely awesome! There's an adorable post card included with the room as well. I'll definitely recommend this property if you're heading to Marfa but book early because things sell out in this small town fast!

I only got to stay here for one night, but it was just what I needed. The Thunderbird is modern, western, and minimalist - just like Marfa (ok, maybe minus the "modern"). The bed was comfortable, the bathroom was nice, and the room was dog-friendly, for a $50 fee. A lot of folks had brought their dogs the night we stayed there. The grounds are really well maintained and the hotel is right across the street from the Capri, with good cocktails and fancy food, and down the street from several more bars and a taco place. If you're in Marfa, you're probably there to unplug, so there aren't any TVs in the room. There are, however, bikes to rent and a nice pool that is nicely maintained. The wifi worked great when I was there. Personally, if you're staying in Marfa, the Thunderbird is a pretty great choice.

MANAGEMENT IS TERRIBLE! Musty smell and paper thin walls. One star only because zero is not an option. Rudest management I've encountered anywhere. Basically a terrible motel that hugely up-charges for hipster vibes.

Simple, rustic rooms. Incredibly comfortable beds!

The thunderbird hotel was exactly what we needed while driving across the southwest. It was a delightful desert oasis after a long days drive. The courtyard was beautiful and serene and the beds were so, so comfortable. The rooms had everything we needed. Though, there is no tv or coffee machine. There is a great coffee house down the road called "Do Your Thing". Toast and coffee there were amazing The hotel room was beautifully simple and the shower was hot. The lavender soaps were a bonus! If you require much more than simple amenities and aesthetic, I'm not sure you'd fully appreciate the space. This hotel would be perfect for a group of friends, romantic getaway, or quick night of sleep before hitting the road again. We grabbed a bite and cocktail at Capri, across the street. Though the waitstaff was a bit slow, the food, cocktails, and space were absolutely worth it.

I have to give this place one star. No fridge No coffee machine No phone And suuuuuper slow wifi When the Thunderbird first opened, at least 10 years ago, slow wifi would have been acceptable. But now that the DQ has wifi that's probably faster, this motel needs to step up their game. Especially if they are going to charge the prices that they do. It was about 160$/night we paid. I feel ripped off. The tub drained slowly. At the end of my shower, I was standing in water up to my shins. Paint is coming off the floor. There is rust on the window sill. There was hair all over the floor from the last guest. When they cleaned our room they forgot to empty the trash can. The day bed that I slept on was hard and sagged in the middle. It was so uncomfortable and the blanket so useless that I got my camping pad and sleeping bag from my truck to sleep on. The window in the bathroom doesn't open so there is no cross draft. After a shower the whole room is steamy. This place calls itself a hotel, but it's a motel...as in I can tell that they need to do a lot mo' than they do now. I've been visiting Marfa for 15 years and this place is definitely not keeping up with the rest of town. They should be embarrassed with how low quality this place is. And it's a pity. The garden area is quite nice.

The hotel has an aesthetic that fits right into Marfa, minimalism, nice art all about, more geometric forms than you can shake a stick at! We didn't get to use the pool 'cuz we forgot our suits, but we went to check it out and it was fantastic, we'll make sure to pack them next time! The linens and bedding were so good--super comfortable and cozy (Hi, Marfa brand I think?). Honestly, I wanted to take them home with me... if anyone knows where to buy them online, let me know. The Aesop bath products were also a big plus, though they accidentally had the hand soap in the shower and the body wash at the sink--and since they're locked in, there's no swapping them. Minor detail, but a little funny. Rooms themselves are large, open, and feel spacious, which I appreciated. Now for the downsides. The biggest issue was noise. You can hear pretty much everything--people walking above, talking next door, doors constantly slamming. Not ideal if you're hoping for a quiet, restful stay. The lighting in the room was also a bit lacking--definitely could've used an extra lamp or two to warm things up. The overall design is nice but starting to feel a little dated... kind of like a W Hotel refresh from around 2015 that hasn't been touched since. And the bathroom sink... I don't know what's going on there, but without any kind of filter on the spout, the water splashes everywhere. I somehow ended up with a wet shirt and pants just from washing my hands. A couple other things to note: the restaurant and bar seem to close early (around 9:30), and when we were heading out at 10, nothing was open--so not sure if they offer breakfast or coffee in the morning. If not, that feels like a missed opportunity. All that said, the staff was friendly and welcoming, and for a small town like Marfa with limited options, it's still a solid choice. Would I stay again? Probably. Would I call it luxury? Meh.

The front desk was very polite but informed us it wouldn't be ready until 3. No worries, we walked over to the Gage Gardens. Basically, a botanical garden and the only thing green in all of West Texas. It only takes about 15 minutes to walk through it but is very nice. We then went to the brewery/bbq spot to have a few beers while we wait. We went back to the reception desk at 3:45 and room still not ready. We actually didn't get in until about 4:30. Not that big of a deal but a little annoying. The room itself felt old. Old school metal keys, no TV, small room and old furniture (more antique like than outdated). There isn't much insulation as you will hear any noise going on in the hallway. There is no elevator so don't stay on the 2nd floor if you can't walk up a flight of stairs. Of course, my lady friend packed everything and the kitchen sink in her bag forcing me to carry it up the stairs. The grounds are great. Cool courtyard with various fire pits. The White Buffalo bar, V-6 coffee shop and the 12 Gage restaurant are also connected to the hotel. Plus, they own an art gallery, a distillery, and I think the pizza place, brewery and bbq place down the block. Don't get fired from Gage if you work here, there aren't a lot of other places to get employed. You'd have to move! We had drinks at the Buffalo Bar before walking down to Ghostfire pizza. We didn't get reservation in time to eat at the 12 Gage but that was fine because the pizza was really good. There are various style rooms, and we got basically the cheapest one at 289.00 (with taxes and fees) . I don't think it's worth the price for what we received but the hotel itself is decent.

Our stay at Marfa House was nothing short of delightful, offering the kind of comfort and space that immediately puts you at ease. We booked the Bandelero Suite, and it felt far more like a thoughtfully designed apartment than a typical hotel room. With two bedrooms, two full bathrooms, a small living area, and access to a balcony, it provided more than enough room for our family of four to spread out and relax. The primary suite featured a cozy queen bed and private bath, while the second bedroom--equipped with two doubles that could be combined--offered flexibility and comfort, even with its more compact bathroom. What truly elevated the experience was the fully equipped kitchen, complete with a full-size refrigerator, stove, microwave, and dishwasher, everything you'd need to settle in for more than just a short stay. It had all the creature comforts of home, making it easy to imagine lingering a little longer. Even small touches stood out: when we realized an iron and ironing board weren't in the room, the staff promptly delivered one and kindly pointed us to extra towels available nearby, adding to the welcoming, low-key hospitality. Its location made it an ideal home base for exploring Marfa and beyond, with easy drives to landmarks like the film location for the iconic movie "Giant" staring Elizabeth Taylor, Rock Hudson and James Dean. Down the road was, the iconic Prada Marfa, and to the east is the McDonald Observatory, and Balmorhea State Park. While it may not carry the same historic prestige as Hotel Paisano or the sleek edge of Hotel Saint George, Marfa House has a charm all its own--modern, comfortable, artistic, and refreshingly affordable.
