Beautiful lodging located inside Davis Mountain State park. The Adobe design exterior worked well with the surrounding vista. The room we stayed in was very basic but was clean and roomy. Furniture were of Western theme variety and not the most comfortable. Caution, no refrigerator or microwave in the room. No cable TV our any TV available at he time of our stay due to a contract dispute. Definitely no Wi-Fi connection available any where within the property. There was an on-site swimming pool and restaurant. But the restaurant had limited operation. It opened Wednesday thru Sunday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. A small gift shop also served as check in and check. I paid around $110 per night which was a excellent price. Even with some short comings, we would still stay here again. The location and view just can not be beat.

Indian Lodge was one of our best family vacations. We stayed in room 119, which is a suite with a pull out couch in the sitting room. The rooms were very quiet, except when the people upstairs were moving around. Very dark at night. We slept very well. Great views, especially at sunrise. The common areas were beautiful and bet solidly built. We enjoyed learning about the CCC that built the lodge. The tap water tastes good, like spring water.

Best. Place. Ever. No kidding, I didn't want to leave! So quiet. We slept with the windows open in October. Loved the mattresses, the sheets and blankets, the shutters on the windows, the decor and immaculate housekeeping. Did the wifi work? No. Did I care? NO!!! People who come here crave~and get~spectacular scenery, wildlife, and peace and quiet. Those who need fancy toiletries, wifi, elevators, and instant hot water should seek lodging at the nearest Holiday Inn Express. SERIOUSLY. That way there will be more room for us bird watchers/sleepers/photographers/hikers at the Indian Lodge....someplace where we can get away from you. The restaurant is also very good. All home-cooked, no Sysco reheats. Not fancy, but enjoyable, affordable, and friendly.

Every good thing that I have heard about this is true. Very nice

This is a review for both the Indian Lodge inside the park as well as the Black Bear restaurant at the lodge. The lodge is historical and architecturally cool. It is like staying in a New Mexican pueblo. The price is right and the accommodations very good. The restaurant is good price and the food delish. The service can be a little slow. But hey, you are on vacation. Time to slow down.

The best place to be away from the busy-ness of life. The staff are friendly, thoughtful. The Black Bear restaurant is next door. Behind would be the hiking trail. The pool is conveniently in the middle. The only thing I don't like is how claustrophobic the cabin is. It can be small. But it's nice to have a cabin to relax in. I will come back.

Stayed one night in July 2012. I had a room in the historical section. Room was clean and unique. Staff was nice and informative on area attractions. The pool was well maintained with beautiful views. There are several mountain trails starting at the lodge. Bring your Binoculars and/or telescope. The night sky is amazing. The drive to Indian Lodge in the Ft. Davis Mountains, is Breathtaking! We stopped along the way in a beautiful canyon and had a picnic lunch. The temperature was in @ 77 degrees & sunny. The Beauty, the Isolation, the Wildlife, the Lodge.....I Never wanted to leave! We checked into our cozy little room (#315) @ 3:30 PM & couldn't wait to go exploring! We drove up to the top of a mountain with a scenic overlook that looked down on the lodge. We saw a Mama Mule Deer & her Fawn feeding along the way. They didn't seem to mind us at all. The view of the lodge & surrounding mountains was so beautiful ! We could see the McDonald Observatory way off in the distance. I was so happy & proud to see all this beauty in Texas! I just couldn't believe it! We then left and drove up to a higher overlook atop a mountain, that had the most unique stone covered shelter, built by the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps) in the 1930's. The CCC helped develop Indian Lodge & numerous other Parks almost 80 years ago. http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/spdest/findadest/historic_sites/ccc/ The lodge has a quaint little restaurant called The Black Bear , where the food is really good & the people are so friendly & informative! Robert, the restaurant manager, was happy to fill us in on wildlife sightings, the Lodge History, recent fire dangers, the best times to visit & avoid the crowds & anything else we had questions about. Don't go Spring Break, Thanksgiving or Christmas......people book their stays a year in advance! After dinner, we gathered up our camp chairs, blankets & cooler to take another drive to the highest overlook to do some stargazing. Let me just say, I've NEVER seen a place where the Stars were So Bright & they literally blanketed us. The Coyote's were howling....the crickets were chirping, we didn't want to leave. It was so Beautiful & Memorable! We left @ 10:PM to head back to our room.....we saw numerous raccoons searching for a bite to eat. After getting ready to turn in, we decided to sit outside our room to take one last look at those beautiful stars......all of the sudden, we heard one HUGE Commotion! As we sat there for a minute or two, we saw 2 Raccoons hopping into a trash can 2 doors down from us. We watched & waited.....the growling & hissing was LOUD & INTENSE.....here came two more.....a Mama & her baby.....there were bottles rattling & clanking.....they were fighting over our neighbors trash.....all of the sudden, our neighbors door flung open, he walked outside with his shirt off & his "sissy shorts" on & his trusty flashlight & shouted "What The Hell Is Goin' On Out Here"....then he saw us sitting there.....he was so embarassed.....the Racoon's weren't phased one bit......we just pointed at 'em....& he turned around & went back inside. I know it sounded like Bears or a couple of Badgers fighting outside his room! ha!ha!ha!.........It was a Great End to a Wonderful Day! The next morning, while eating breakfast @ the Black Bear Restaurant, we just gave that guy a nod & a wave......he just looked down & found a seat pretty far away from us. =- ) I can't wait to go back to Indian Lodge. We made some great memories on our first visit to the Lodge! I Can NOT wait to go back!

Great memories of visiting the Davis Mountains while staying at Indian Lodge every April. Leave your room door open and let the swallows fly in and out of your room. Hike the terrain and spot wildlife. Visit the mcdonald observatory and enjoy the star party on Friday night. Even watched as the hubble flew over and changed positions in the sky. Pretty amazing. Great outdoor fun! A great view of the sunrise!

Nice staff and good view from windows. Buffet dinner over spring break. Some vegetarian options. Arrive early to beat the crowd. Convenient place to eat after a hike.

My wife and I stayed here. The room was very nice with great views and the staff were very accommodating.

If you're looking for a unique getaway you should try Indian Lodge. My wife and I flew into Midland, rented a car and drove for three hours. Once you make the right turn at Fort Davis you're in the Davis mtns. The staff at Indian Lodge could not have been better. There is a restaurant there but unfortunately it was closed because the staff was sick. So what to do for food? Fortunately the town of Fort Davis is a short four mile drive and has all you'll need. We had breakfast one day at Luci's Kitchen. Small place but large breakfast. Another diner we liked is Fort Davis Drugstore. There's plenty of hiking trails, deer and views to take in. Don't forget to make the thirteen mile ride over to McDonald Observatory. You won't be disappointed.

With a limited menu, we presumed anything ordered would be rather scrumptious. We decided to order the chicken fried steak along with the green chili bacon burger. We shared our dishes per, swapping plates half way through our respective meals. Our consensus was identical and is as follows: The green chili bacon burger was indeed the superior dish. In fact, it was quite delicious! The chicken fried steak was good as well, but the portion was a bit small and the sides were nothing to write home about. Was the burger worth $18? Probably not, but to be fair, I'm not sure that any burger is deserving of such a price. That being said, it was indeed a tasty burger if you don't mind the price. Was the chicken fried steak worth $20? Certainly not. Truly an average dish with small portions, we both feel the decision was regrettable at such a price point. In conclusion, with a juicy burger, an average chicken fried steak, and a limited menu with overpriced entrees, the Harvard Hotel receives a 3 star rating.

We were in Unit 3, which was not only spotless and beautifully decorated, but also super cozy with a fireplace we actually got to use! It was perfect for us and our two big Labradors--plenty of space, comfort, and most importantly, true dog-friendliness. The service here is what really blew us away. I accidentally left my credit card behind, and the owner personally brought it to us. When we got a flat tire on our way out of town, she helped us find someone local to fix it fast. That kind of care and hospitality is rare and unforgettable. The new gift shop is absolutely adorable. I picked up a Texas Hummingbird book that I'm already loving, and there were so many unique finds--definitely worth stopping in even if you're not staying overnight. If you're heading to Fort Davis--especially with dogs--you HAVE to stay here. It's charming, clean, welcoming, and run by truly kind people. Can't recommend it enough!

We had done some research and realized that we needed to "set out expectations" for what to expect on our trip. That being said "Rustic" is an understatement!!!! Now, on to this particular establishment......... VERY laid back with self check-in/out. We only encountered two staff members during our stay, and they were both very friendly and "colorful" (in a good way). The accommodations, while small, and VERY RUSTIC, were clean, and thoughtfully laid out. It had ample places for our luggage, hanging clothes, toiletries, etc., and a kitchenette with coffee maker, microwave, fridge, and a sink which doubled for the bathroom sink. There was a make up dresser for my wife, with a mirror, but no hair dryer (which their website had stated would be the case, so no surprises there). The "compound" had a nicely appointed community pavilion, though it was a bit chilly at night when we were there, and we were exhausted, so we didn't use it. The bed was comfortable, and the heating/AC unit worked properly and wasn't unusually noisy. We left before the cafe was open, and they had closed by the time we checked in, so we didn't get a chance to try it, but the lingering food odor was wonderful, so we were a bit disappointed that we missed out. The ONLY comment I have is that the price, WHILE LESS THAN SOME OF THE OTHER PLACES WE ENCOUNTERED ON THIS TRIP, seemed a tad on the high end. We are generally a Hilton/Best Western/Holiday Inn Express type of client and we paid about the same for "Rustic" as we would for typical lodging at one of those establishments. That being said, this was the best lodging VALUE we experienced during our stay in West Texas, so not really a complaint. We would/will stay there again if/when we're out that way, again.
