DO NOT STAY HERE - they will nickel and dime you for everything. When we checked in, the key to our room didn't work. No one was in the office. Had to wait 20+ minutes just to finally find someone and be told the room key doesn't work until after 3pm. Would have been nice to know immediately. No one answers the phone. We paid the additional pet fees. They then charged us an additional $300 because our dog chewed a hole in the cheap top blanket. They claim there were scratches on the floor from our dogs - which was absolutely a lie. They also waited a full day after we checked out to even call about this. Scammy and will do anything to charge you triple what you paid for the room. And what does the pet fees cover???? How are you going to allow pets and then say there's scratches on the floor?? Be so serious. Scam of a hotel, worst customer service. They also state on their website that they charge up to $250 for pet damages and yet they charged us $300! i loved every moment of my stay here. This tiny box had everything i needed. The bed was extremely comfortable and the shower was better than some high end hotels. It was very clean inside. FYI: the lobby is not open 24 hours. If you're doing late check-in, make sure you contact the hotel to arrange it (they'll leave your key in a drop box). -No coffee maker in room. This was a major issue for us. The front desk told me (upon check-in) that coffee would be available in the hotel lobby. We tried to get some before hitting the road (at 7am) and the door was locked. If you're going to remove the coffee maker from the room, you better ensure that coffee is available in the lobby in the early morning. We had a 10-hour drive that day and having access to coffee was important. Disappointing. -Dirty toilet seat. There was some sort of dried liquid all around that I scrubbed off. Gross. I suggest wiping it down before you use it. The rest of the room seemed pretty clean though. -The water in the shower took forever to warm up. Overall, an okay hotel with a couple hiccups. read more

This is a good place if you just need somewhere to crash. The lady at the desk was about to leave when I got there. I'm glad I caught her before she left. She was nice but I forgot to get the wifi password and regretted it. The room had a clump of hair on the faucet. I wiped it down with Clorox wipes just to be safe. Easily the best value in Marfa! We were nearing the end of a five week cross-country trip as a touring band and stayed in dozens of hotels all over the country. We were on a small budget and unfortunately encountered a few very grungy spots along the way. Riata in Marfa had the most spacious and cozy rooms of anywhere we stayed. High-guality finishes and furniture, and all for a very low price. Brenda, the manager, was so sweet and accommodating. She even bought two T-shirts from us to help support our trip. I booked the Riata Inn about 3-4 months prior to my Big Bend trip and got a confirmation email stating I was good to go. I didn't think of it again until I pulled up to get my room. The hotel manager had a room for 2 of my travel companions but didn't have me in the system. I explained to her that I booked the room 3-4 months prior and even had an email confirmation. She dismissed me as if I was lying. I was worried because there was a sign on the door that said " Completely booked. No rooms available". Once she realized I was staying for 4 nights, I was able to get a room. She was extraordinarily friendly to my travel companions but very standoffish with me. It was actually comical. Once that was all sorted out, she gave me a discounted rate so all was forgiven. ( like 20.00 total less than I booked it for) Riatta Inn is an old school basic road side motel in the middle of Marfa. The room was big and clean. A king sized bed, flat screen tv, microwave, fridge, sofa, and table and chairs. They do have a pool outside as well. Nothing spectacular but it was good for a West Texas hiking trip. Oh and 2 days after I had already been there I got a call from the manager asking what time I planned to arrive. They put my original reservation in wrong. So double check that part out before you arrive. read more

The ladies working the front desk were very friendly and even gave me a discount on the room rate since I had booked through their website. The room was very basic - double beds, TV, etc. I was disappointed that there wasn't a closet, but rather just some bars to fold and hang things on. The bathroom was small and the tub/shower was a little dirty. The water pressure in the shower was non-existent. Our door to the room was a little tough to open. We had to put a shoulder into the door for it to open up. The walls were paper thin and we could hear everyone around us. The beds and pillows were kind of hard. However, the inn is in a good location. Everything is close by. Overall, I had a good stay, but I probably wouldn't stay here again. For the price I was charged, (around $150 a night after tax) I should be getting a Hyatt or Marriott quality room. Alas, this is Marfa and there's not much choice around here. read more

I had to relocate from CA to TX and decided to stay in Marfa overnight because it seemed like the safest town for a solo female traveler in Western TX. Upon checking in I was gawked at my some men in the parking area. I walked in, and the front desk lady was not wearing a mask, even though Marfa has mandatory masks effective just a few days before our visit. I just got a puppy and have the Dr.'s note verifying that she's a service pet. After paying the pet fee ($10 cash) I remembered you don't need to pay if you have a service animal. (It's my first time traveling with her so I totally forgot at first). The front desk lady was irritated when giving me my cash back. I got into my room, and after unpacking my overnight bag I realized the door external lock did not work. And lo and behold, the men from earlier were staying two doors down and were hanging out in the parking lot area and saw exactly which room I was staying in. After thinking for a moment, I found another hotel down the road that had one opening left for the night and I packed my car back up and left. Normally, I would've gone to the front desk to ask for another accommodation or a refund, but because she wasn't wearing a mask and the tension with my dog, I was uncomfortable returning. I returned briefly in the morning to drop the key off so I wouldn't incur a $5 fee. read more

The motel itself was great - nothing fancy, just a comfortable room in a kooky little town in the middle of nowhere. Which is all I needed for our stay in Marfa. The bed was comfortable, the water pressure in the bathroom was great, and the mini fridge was super sized (luckily the visitors before us had forgotten a six pack of 7Up in the fridge that really saved our asses one night after we spent all day long getting completely wasted at Lost Horse and were in emergency need of non-alcoholic liquids)... But the real reason to stay at the Riata is its manager, Rick. Rick is one cool dude. From the time I initially called to inquire about rates, and during the next couple of times we spoke to make arrangements, he was always just so damn...cool. Helpful, yeah, but nice and good to talk to, even about non-hotel-room-renting-business. It a great place for a great price, and if you're smart enough to stay here, bring Rick a bottle of bar-b-que sauce - he's an aficionado. P.S. If you bring a dog, make sure you bring him footwear. Dog boots sound absolutely insane, I know, but there are thorns all over the ground out in Marfa that will make it impossible for your pooch to take a step. My "miniature" schnauzer is too damn fat for me to carry around all weekend, and the boots I tried to fashion out of baby socks from the Dollar General and a paper bag left much to be desired in both effectiveness and style. read more

Uhhhh...this started out great, because Rick is such a friendly guy. And, the bed was clean and comfortable. That's it. Should I go on? The place needs professional maid service. Badly. The bathroom was dirrrrrrrtttty. When we asked that it be cleaned better, it was almost as if the cleaning staff went out of their way to make it worse. The 2nd morning, the shower was covered with gritty soap stuff like Bon Ami, and barely rinsed off. Plus the disgusting fixtures had not been cleaned. And a $25 tube of facial wash was missing from the bathroom counter. If you choose to stay here, lock everything up when you leave the place. And don't bother trying to find anyone at the desk. The only reason this little motel got a 4 star is because it's a motel, with outdoor entrances. But that is actually convenient when unloading/loading your vehicle which parks right at your door! This room was huge, very clean, very modern. The large, modern bath counter is outside the shower/toilet area which is convenient when there are two people. The king size bed was exremely comfortable, and the bedding was very nice, not old and worn as you might expect from a building which appears a little older from the outside. The room is so large that you aren't looking for space to put your luggage pieces if you have a lot and are on a long trip. There was a great flat-screen tv and cable. There's a table with two chairs if you need it, plus a desk area. It's so large, you could have a cocktail party using the refrigerator/freezer and the microwave. This is a real find! read more

It seems as if my room wasn't cleaned before I got here. At least the beds look fixed... But for $130 it's definitely not worth it. Any Motel 6 would have these things available right at check in and would be more than happy to help if they didn't have the necessitys available. I wish that I could leave a review about the rooms, stay and hospitality of The Riata Inn Marfa. Unfortunately, I cannot, because I never even got the chance to stay there. Welcome to my hotel horror story: I reserved the rooms months ago for our large conference group of 20 people. This was no easy task. No one would answer the phones at the Riata, and I had to leave several messages before someone finally called me back. That should have been the first red flag. Though I asked for a confirmation email, I never received one. I didn't worry too much about it. I should have. We ended up gaining two more members of our group. I called to add an extra room - none were available. Fair enough, we would fit the other two in another hotel. I again asked for a confirmation to be emailed to me. They said they would. They never did. I was starting to get scared. With little to no communication on their part, and a huge project taking place for our business, I began to worry. I called again and stated that I need confirmation emails sent asap. Then, and only then, did the manager let me know that she had screwed up and that there were in fact no rooms available for us. By this time, all the other hotel rooms were booked up in Marfa. THEY KNEW FOR WEEKS THAT WE HAD NO ROOMS. THEY NEVER EVEN BOTHERED TO CALL AND TELL ME THAT THEY HAD OVERBOOKED US. I am positive that they would have allowed us to travel from all over the United States to Marfa to tell us when we arrived that we in fact had no place to stay. I told the manager that I needed to speak to her superior, and she stated that hotel policy did not allow this and that the soonest someone would be able to speak with me about this would be three months from now. The only responses I got from her was her screaming at me that this was not her fault. We had to rearrange the town that our entire trip was to take place in. We lost deposits on meeting places and catering for dinners. We had planned to spend a lot of money in Marfa. We were thankfully able to book places in nearby Alpine, TX at the last minute and will still be able to proceed with the conference, though we lost a couple of thousand dollars as a result of The Riata Inn's negligence. Do not stay here, whether you are a family or a business. You will find yourself in the middle of the west Texas desert without a place to sleep. read more

After a long road trip I think I've gotten a fairly good idea of what to expect from a motel. After ringing 4 times to try and book we finally were able to get through. The only good thing about this particular place was the helpful girl who checked us in. It went downhill from there. The room was far and away the worst I have stayed in ANYWHERE. There was a massive cardboard box with pieces of wood in it. The bathroom door didn't close. The walls were cracking. The fridge was the noisiest thing I've ever heard and when combined with the racket the heater was spitting out and an uncomfortable bed it made for a bad nights rest indeed. The toilet ran all night long, making for a huge annoyance and a pretty terrible approach to the environment. If anyone within a 2 room radius turned any tap on or flushed the toilet you were sure to know about it due to the complete lack of acoustic privacy. Many pieces of the furniture were broken, the draws had the bottoms knocked out of them. Oh, and the room service knocked on the door at around 8am on a saturday morning (checkout was at 11am and there weren't any Do Not Disturb signs provided. Unbelievable. To top it all off the prices are simply extortionate. I don't mind a bad motel, but it has to come at dirt cheap prices. In the morning we tried to get in contact with the staff and let them know our utter disappointment but were completely unable to find anyone around. I guess they don't stay on site as there is no way I could have slept in that long with all the racket. NEVER AGAIN. read more

Yep, the guys at the front desk are cool, and the $10/day bike rental was the best decision we made during our stay in Marfa. (We did get some erroneous directions regarding how to get to Big Bend, but that's NBD since we had a map.) The rooms are quite large. Ours was dirty (think lots of hairs in the bathroom, some head and some not). And they have the tiniest, thinnest bath towels you will ever encounter. But the price is right. read more

Great little place to stay in Marfa. I agree with Tront, this must have been an old nursing home because the room was huge and the bathroom and shower were wheelchair-sized. We thought we just got a handicapped room, but I guess not! The parking spaces are also massive, like 1.5 Hummers wide. Now it all makes sense... Anyway, in addition to being huge, the room was spotless. Everything was in great condition and the refrigerator was bigger than a standard mini-fridge (although sadly no freezer for our Dairy Queen leftovers). Cable is included along with free wi-fi. Ask at the desk for the password, but be careful if you're a Mac user--Safari doesn't work on the network, but Firefox seemed fine. The staff were super nice and welcoming, but the owner did give us the misinformation that Padre's, the bar down the street, would be open that night. After he talked up its amazingness for a good five minutes, we were pumped to go there for dinner and drinks, only to be hit with overwhelming disappointment when we discovered it was closed for Independence Day. Oh well, at least he was friendly and tried to give us recommendations. As the cheapest place you're going to find in Marfa, I was quite impressed with the Riata Inn. The Thunderbird might be cooler and definitely better for a romantic weekend, but I'd recommend the Riata if you really want to get the most bang for your buck. read more

4 1/2 stars really! Rick, the hotel manager, awesome! His pals who helped him out/ hung out there what seemed all day were also great folks. The place is the cheapest, unless you go to the rv park and camp. Not luxurious by any means and pretty basic, but clean comfy bed and clean bathroom. Coach needed a cover slip, we didn't actually ever sit on it*. Mini fridge is a great perk, esp after a long day out in the hot sun. Rick def made this place worth it though. Oh, bike rental- do it! No reason to drive around and the breeze feels better then walking in hot sun. read more
