First of all, I would like to say that I can respect the history behind this hotel and the beauty of it in that regard. However, I would NEVER and I mean NEVER stay here again. To begin, while checking in, the staff was very kind but, we were told as we were handed our keys that our rooms (we had 2) were cleaned and ready for use (they even used their cell phone to call to confirm). The check in time was 3pm mind you, and we got there around almost 4. Once at our room, upon entry, there was a backpack that was left literally on the floor right as you walk in, someone's night bag, a computer monitor and a t-shirt on the floor in the adjourning room. There was also trash in the trash cans from the previous person. This immediately told us that whoever was supposed to be cleaning in this room did not do their job. We called the front staff, and they were very kind about the issues and quickly tried to resolve the problem. The cleaning lady did give us sheets for the pull out couch since we asked, thankfully. I also understand that this is a small town and that this hotel is very old, but all of the carpets in both rooms were stained, we had no towels in the bathroom and the one we did have had a very large brown stain on it. There were 2 chairs in the room as well and as soon as someone sat in it, it broke. The last point I would like to make is that this hotel is right by the train tracks, so every time a train goes by YOU WILL HEAR IT! I think we probably heard the most loud and repetitive train horns through ALL hours of the night (at least 5 or 6 trains blowing their horns). I know it's not the hotels fault for the train, I just wanted anyone who might want to enjoy their sleep to be aware. I'm sad that this was such an unpleasant experience, as I am a fan of historical hotels and other places, but I will not be returning here.

    Dirty shower head

Needs serious clean and paint and and the bathroom is a nightmare--not coming back here as there is quite a shabby feeling in the room and carpet seems dirty too so I am not taking my shoes off.

What a find! If you want great food, wonderful service and a unique setting, this is the place. Two of us had beer battered fish and chips. The servings were large and the fish moist, tender with a crunchy crust. My husband had Pork Osso Buco. It's a sure bet if you like pork. Lastly there was Blackened Red Fish which was over the top good. All the meals were delicious and presented beautifully. I cannot say enough about out delightful waitress. She was fun, polite and just attentive enough to supply perfect service. We were there for my birthday on June 1, and The Holland made it a memorable evening.

My stay at the Holland was by far one of the best hotel experiences I have ever had! We were road tripping through Alpine and decided to stay one night so that we could rest and refresh ourselves after several nights of tent camping, so needless to say I was already more excited than ever to simply sleep in a comfortable bed. When we arrived we were met with a beautifully decorated lobby with a nice fireplace, a pool table, and plenty of space for lounging around. The gentleman at the front desk was friendly and checked us in quickly and we settled into our room, Nina's Room. It was the smallest and the only original room in the hotel. I picked it simply because it was the most cost efficient for two travelers just spending a very quick night, but we got a wonderful experience out of it and the room had more than everything we could have asked for! I could honestly give five stars alone just for the rainfall shower head in the bathroom which felt amazing and made for the best shower ever. The rest of our room and the hotel was beautiful, clean, and cozy that I found myself wishing I was staying an extra night! I love the history behind the Holland and the uniqueness of the whole place. If I'm ever traveling through Alpine again I will definitely be staying here once again!

Solid 2.5 stars. First off, I must have lucked out when I was able to book a room via phone because calling the same number after that was a challenge to get anyone on the phone. This is a nice quaint hotel with a mix of good and bad. It has a bar and restaurant and offer a pretty decent complimentary breakfast with quiche, fruit, biscuits, oatmeal, coffee and orange juice. The lobby décor was rustic and pleasant. Rooms are small. Probably due to it being a historical hotel. Ice machine worked so that was a plus. Grateful it worked as the fridge was a chill box at best on the max setting. The room consisted of a king, which appeared to be more like a queen size bed, and a couch with a pull out sleeper. The couch was pushed against the foot of the bed and the TV was in front of that. Needless to say it was a tight fit for four adults. Lucky for me, I like my in-laws. LOL After the first evening of showers etc, my mother-in-law noticed that we only had two hand towels and not four. She notified the front desk in the morning and upon our return that day we had four of everything, literally - 4 shampoo, conditioner, lotion, bar soap, wash cloth, hand towel and large towel. While watching TV before bed, it lost signal several times which required an auto reboot that took 10 to 12 minutes. The coffee and bottled water were complimentary but we double checked on the water as most hotels will charge extra for this and there was no sign. Overall, this place is fair with the most disappointing thing was being misled regarding room size. Oh wait, as I'm writing this, the TV resets again, SERIOUSLY! Back to being misled, I advertised that there would be four adults in the room and was told that the King with sleeper sofa was the largest room they had. When we checked in the front desk agent was surprised that four adults were staying in such a room. At a later time, I asked another desk agent about the room sizes and was informed that two queen deluxe was a bigger room. Although the sleeping arrangements were awkward, we only stayed two nights and were not in the room for the majority of the day and used it to freshen up and sleep.

I'm actually giving Holland a few more stars than actually deserved because I love Texas history and success stories. Lets start with my story. We weren't planning on staying here at all; instead pulling our RV out west from Austin. Two days before departing, my ranch truck developed a misfire and couldn't be relied on to tow anything 8 hours away. We scrambled to change every aspect of our trip quickly. Our first night we were able to trade an RV space in Junction,Texas for a small cabin. While another family member canceled our RV park reservations in the Big Bend area I called the Holland to see about rooms for those nights. I spoke with Tiffany who told me they had the space, but would have to change rooms for the second night to honor reservations. I agreed that we would pack up after the first night; and check in again the next day. I gave my credit card info and hung up the phone. Upon arrival, we were only booked for one night. She assured me that she would add in the second night after we hung up. Management at that time scrambled to fit us in led by Sidney and the front desk associate. We were able to stay just like promised with a discount given to us for our trouble. Fine, could have been worse. Bad stuff out of the way, I love this hotel. Brilliant remodel that starts from the exterior doors forward in the lobby. Comfy couches adorn the main floor along with the front desk with restrooms in the back. Trendy outdoor space for cocktails circa the 20's describes be outdoor seating area. The bar is street side with plenty of windows for people watching. Near to my heart was the pool table across from the bar that reminded of the old barn I used to live in. I spent my mornings and late evenings brushing up on my billiard skills. Miss my old bachelor pad before I got married! Rooms (plural) were nice. First night had a better view than the second. I wouldn't have even noticed the mini fridge in the room if the kiddo hadn't opened every drawer and cabinet door. For those worried about the train noise, earplugs are provided. I personally didn't need them relying on a few craft cocktails from the bars in the area as a sleep aid. Can't wait to cruise back into Alpine and stay again!

They provide snacks, WiFi and a great binder with information. The location is convient to pretty much everything in Alpine ( a lot within walking distance). However, I was extremely dissapointed and annoyed when I received my review back from the Guest Lofts. We came to Alpine to celebrate me turning 21. Im not a big drinker and therefore wanted to travel for my bday. I think my group and I were stereotyped and therefore received a negative review. Apparently we kept a family and their kids up all night long... First off we were on the outside which meant there was only one loft next to us. The first night we stayed there we had just drove 7 hours and didn't stay up past 10. The next morning when we woke up the only people in the loft next to us were one of the ladies that runs the guest lofts cleaning. We were told In the review we were too loud and didn't follow the rules. There is no possible way we kept anyone up all night long. We never stayed up past 12 and didn't wake up until 9. I didn't even finish a four pack of beer and one of the people in my group was sick. The only "kids" I saw were two preteens throwing knives at stuff in the courtyard. I take it Guest Lofts are not a fan of young adults. I think they could have handled the situation better and maybe talked to us in person or let us know there was supposedly someone staying next to us.
