We recently stayed at Hotel Limpia in Fort Davis, and this historic property is absolutely adorable. It's very quiet and has so much charm--perfect for a peaceful getaway. We booked the two-bedroom suite with a kitchen, which was spacious and clean. Although we didn't end up using the kitchen (we opted for a nearby restaurant instead), it was a nice option to have. The main bedroom had a lovely bathroom with a clawfoot tub and a vintage wall heater that added to the charm. The second bedroom had a smaller bathroom, with the sink just outside the door--compact, but functional. The rollaway bed in the living area was a great bonus so our son didn't have to sleep on the couch. The air conditioning worked really well, which was a relief during our summer stay. The lobby area is full of character, with cozy seating areas, a reading room, and even a conference room--all decorated in a warm, old-school style with touches like a chandelier that give it so much personality. WiFi was a little spotty but worked well enough when it did connect. Parking was easy--we had a covered spot right outside our room. read more

We took advantage of a Black Friday special, and booked a two queen room at the Casa Limpia across from the main Hotel. The downtown squat will take you back in time, and the stone and log buildings are truly gorgeous. We stayed upstairs, but unlike some other older buildings we've stayed in the stairs weren't tall or narrow - the walk was easy on my old knees. The room had a/c and very hot water which was nice after a long drive. Fort Davis is very remote, so pack some extra snacks and drinks because the shopping options are limited. The sky is gorgeous at night, and the mountains create lots of beautiful photo ops. Be mindful of the local wildlife, though, as the javelinas run rampant and travel in packs. We loved the hotel, and will definitely stay here again. Barbara and Sarah were very friendly and helpful, and both are a credit to the local community! read more

Yes, yet another historic hotel lovingly preserved. Thank Goodness this place hasn't been torn down. Not many of these remain. Ft Davis is a historic army post created to protect travelers along the San Antonio to El Passo Trail. This little spec of a town is well preserved. Being the county seat there is a courthouse,hotel,bank and library not unlike what you may have found back in the day. The hotel is simple and as close to the original s you will find anywhere. Hotel Limpia saved my friend and I when we were looking for a last minute places to stay. The room was a little bare and we had to cross the main road to reach it, but it was clean and saved us from camping in the cold. Great service, they gave us a cookie when we walked in. read more

This hotel was recommended to us and it turned out really good! The lobby and adjacent rooms were beautiful. Upon check in, we were greeted by a welcoming receptionist. She told us that we would actually be staying across the street and up a flight of steps. Room 41 by the balcony. We booked this on booking.com and didn't realize that there were several buildings at the hotel. The room was spacious, exceptionally clean, although nothing fancy. Bed was very comfortable. See my picture of the shower. There is a small lip at the floor- water can splash out while showering so make sure you put towels down. **prepare in advance that there is no food for breakfast, nor coffee really. Two more things: I went back that evening and the same young woman was kind enough to find me a wine opener to use quickly. Cheers! Second, in case the hotel is reading- the public bathroom downstairs behind reception is so cute- a $10 new toilet seat would make a huge difference in presentation/ first appearances to guests checking in. arrived 20 minutes early. "I'm here but I'm not doing early check-ins.". at checkin time we were told we would have to wait because our room wasn't ready. When we finally checked in our bed was made with the sheet on top of the comforter. We had no towels. Then we found out there was nothing open for any meals. Closed Sunday and Monday. we asked for coffee and for our wastebaskets to be emptied. we ended up doing this ourselves. Room was charming but half of the outlets were out. I would expect this of a motel 6 but not a hotel expecting the prices they ask. They also turned away a couple 'cause we don't do walk ins." wouldn't recommend it. read more

The hotel itself is cute enough in a shabby chic sort of way. It's set up old boarding house style. Two floors, no elevator. Customer service was terrible. The front desk clerk sat there and watched as my 9 year old daughter and myself lugged our luggage to the second floor. Not to mention, we couldn't even find him for 15 minutes when we wanted to check in. It's not exactly boutique chic. The mattress is as hard as a rock. There are no ac controls in the rooms. For an 1900s hotel experience, I wouldn't expect the price I paid but I guess they can charge a premium because hotel rooms are scarce here. Just know... it's not a luxury boutique by any stretch of the imagination and the service leaves a lot to be desired. read more

I love me a funky old hotel. They are gems that should be cherished and enjoyed. This one was a bit of a bi-polar experience. Some of it I loved, some of it I hated. What I loved: Great charm. Very clean. Interesting rooms with nooks and crannies. Games in some of the rooms. Relaxing balconies (upstairs/downstairs, front/back). Excellent staff with every interaction. Wonderful to sign the old time ledger to record your visit. Cool old keys on brass rings. Beautiful accommodations with antique like accomodations. What I hated: Any time anyone was on the balcony outside our room it felt like they were in our room. NO sound proof and the windows didn't have very effective shading. There's a window above the door that has a paper thin shade. All night long it was like a dimmed spotlight into the room. I could read from it (truly) and we had to put layers of jackets & towels over it every night. The doors are VERY difficult to shut/lock with one hand. You must put everything down when you leave as the doors don't self lock. Would I stay again? Sure. But I would be prepared. I'd bring ear plugs and I would DEFINITELY bring a small tarp for the window above the door. Then I would likely rate it a 4. read more

In short, the hotel accidentally booked a wrong night and refused to refund me for the mistake they made, even after I offered to except 1/2 of the payment back. For a couple more details: I had originally booked 2 rooms for Friday 11/1 on the hotel's website. I called to add an additional Saturday night (11/2) to the reservation, which was accidentally changed to 11/2 and 11/3. I was told that I could not cancel the 11/3 reservation since I had a "special online rate" (which was double the price of what I saw listed for the Sunday I was booked for). No answer as to how my 11/1 reservation, also presumably booked with a "special online rate," was canceled. There was no manager on site to handle my concern and I only received contact by email. The hotel also ignored my report to the Better Business Bureau. read more

We stayed at the Hotel Limpia for 5 nights to explore the surrounding area and visit Big Bend Ranch State Park and Big Bend National Park. One of the reasons we chose this hotel, other than the fact it was a restored historic hotel, was because we could have our dog with us. Another reason was because my husband was told that several places offered breakfast and there was a coffee shop onsite (with espresso). We actually stayed in a long, low building behind the hotel with rooms that is probably as old as the hotel, called the Orchard House, instead of in the main hotel. Here are my thoughts: 1. We underestimated how much there would be to see and enjoy in Ft. Davis or some of the other small towns in this area. These towns have all dwindled to tiny with only fewer than 10 shops and restaurants in all each. 2. The 'options' for breakfast were: the drugstore across the street, but only on weekends and the 3 food items for carry out from the market down the street. The coffee shop had a couple of pastries as well. 3. The coffee shop was closed on Monday and Tuesday, half of our stay in town. 4. The hotel: it was historic, it was old, but restored? um, no, not really. Everything in our room sloped. The bathroom was at least 50 years old and had not been updated very often, maybe band-aided a few times. The kitchen was also old and tired. I suspect that the main building fared better. From reviewing some of the older photos others have posted, it looks like there used to be a few more options for food in Ft. Davis years ago, and the hotel also used to offer coffee in the lobby previously. They no longer provide brewed coffee in the lobby; they have small bottles of water and a couple of snack bars. read more

We came here for a long anniversary weekend and Maegan at the front desk was accommodating and so very thoughtful. I had a great experience at this hotel in Fort Davis! It was July 4th weekend so a lot of festivities were going on. Check in was a slow process but the attendant was really nice. My room was adorable. Definitely had an old 20th century feel but it was so cute. The only major issue I had was the toilet wouldn't flush properly. Everything was very clean but that was a little bit upsetting. If I was to come back to Fort Davis I would love to stay here again! read more

This place is exactly what it looks like, a funky old hotel in the middle of nowhere. It's in a 100 year old building, so the floors have some loose boards, and they don't have TV's. Well, they do, but they're not hooked up to anything. Bring a cable and hook your laptop up to it to watch movies in your room. They do have wifi, btw. Only real complaint was that they use ultra low flow toilets, and they don't flush all that well. I don't blame the hotel, these are mandated out there in the desert. I ended up using my waste basket as a bucket and filling it up in the tub as an extra source of water to flush the toilet. read more

The hotel staff never responded to my phone calls or email to the manager. There was no staff available at the desk anytime I was there after checkin, including the following morning between 7 and 8. Do not stay here. I did not get much sleep at all due to the trashy people staying next to me at the Orchard House--played country music loudly outside on the porch from 6 pm until nearly midnight. For an "old, historic" hotel it's nice. Just nice. There IS a room that could suite you depending on your needs but the description on the website does not have enough of the detailed description I would want. My family of 10 stayed in rooms 30, 31 and 34. My daughters (and their babies) had 31 and 34 for the king beds. Me, my hubby and my son had 30 for the two bedrooms and kitchen. The bed, pillows and linens are OK. Just ok. The towels are old and have holes in them. The "grab n go" breakfast consists of one choice of bar, a nutrígrain and water bottles. They also give free you coffee vouchers for a black coffee and a 10% discount for the one little coffee shop next door (see my review for that for more info) the pool was ice cold but relatively clean. The property grounds were clean enough and due to all the rain, very green But of course there is maintenance that needs to be done all around the façade of the building. Like bricks falling off of places and paint chipping and all the stuff that comes with owning a building like this.The employees are nice. Tiffany was most hospitable and helpful of everyone. I also make and effort to learn names. Finding help if you need someone was pretty easy, overall though this town is hurting for employees. Very unfortunate considering the location and charm that ft. Davis potentially has. Breaks my heart to see so many businesses closed. read more

We came to Fort Davis for a mini vacation to get away from all of the city madness. My boyfriend and his family has always stayed at Hotel Limpia, so we decided to continue the tradition of doing so! We showed up and got checked in very easily with Chloe at the front desk. Our room was around the corner in it's own space. The only downside is that it is literally right next to the men's bathroom (picture will be attached). Otherwise we really enjoyed the room! We went in and they had a welcoming paper with restaurants around and times/days they are open and what they serve...GREAT TOUCH! It definitely goes for that nostalgic feel and made us feel relaxed. The room has another door you can walk out and go sit in the rocking chairs on their patio and watch all of the beautiful hummingbirds and read a book or just soak up the amazing weather. They have a room that's sort of a sun room which you can sit and relax as well. There is a bistro that is slightly connected to the hotel that is amazing! The hotel also has a pool, just a shot walk away from the main building. The only downside is that they don't want you to take room towels, but they don't have the pool towel box restocked for you to use. Luckily the first time we went down there, Chloe got some from the laundry room...but the next time Perla said they weren't ready and no one ever brought them out. All in all though, we love this place and the hospitality. read more

Davis & just HAD to stop & take a look / tour of the Beautiful Limpia Hotel! A wonderful cool breeze was blowing through the lobby as we were greeted by two ladies, Anajo & Peggy, at the front desk We told them we were passing through & would love to take a tour of the beautiful hotel. They were glad to show us around & describe each & every room...from the Majestic Ballroom to the glassed-in wrap-around Sun Room/Veranda. The floors creaked as we walked from room to room. Tuxedo, the cat was happy to go on the tour as well. The rockers on the front porch are perfect for reading a book or just "rockin' & nappin'". The Limpia Hotel is the perfect place to be lazy, relaxed & take it easy! The Limpia Hotel was built in 1912 & was originally a boarding house. We enjoyed our suite for two nights. Lots of space for us to spread out as a family of four. The wifi in the hotel lobby worked great but out in the suites it was very weak. This was a problem for my husband who needed to access his work email and send some files. He headed to the lobby and relaxed by the fire with Limpia the cat so it all worked out fine. The shower situation was a little crazy as we attempted to adjust the hot and cold by turning them in opposite directions! But the hotel is historic so we just looked at it as extra character! We loved having the kitchen in our suite! Please install larger televisions! The tiny TV in the living room was smaller than my laptop screen! We don't stay in our room and watch tv all day but when it's time to relax in the evening, an appropriate sized TV screen would be perfect! We will be back! read more

Quaint and super cute hotel. It's split up into three buildings, we stayed in the one right across the street from the main building and above the gift store. They recently remodeled the rooms so they're pretty nice. Check-in was a breeze! We called to tell them we'd be late (past 10pm) and they just said they'd put everything in an envelope for us and have it ready (they gave us specific instructions for when we arrived since no one would be there to check us in). We loved this hotel - very charming and convenient to everything in downtown Ft Davis. This place had true Southern charm and hospitality. Loved the porches on each floor - great for watching the sun set over the town square. The only drawback was having to lug our suitcases up a narrow staircase, but that's to be expected in this type of place. Our only windows looked out to the building next door which you might have been able to touch if you stuck your hand out the window. My husband booked this hotel specifically because it looked idyllic, had a top rated restaurant on the grounds and a refreshing pool for his 8 months pregnant wife as a reward after a full day of driving. We arrived on a hot July day and were looking forward to jumping in the pool, only to learn when we checked in that the pool was closed for a private event. Would have been nice if they would have let us know via reservation email about this or comped us something. The young lady at the front desk was not much help and didn't give any sort of direction as to where the rooms were located even after my husband walked up the stairs of the check in/office building, she seemed preoccupied with something on the computer. And we learned that the restaurant is closed on Wednesdays; Again she offered no alternatives for eating upon hearing we were disappointed the restaurant, that had rave reviews, was closed. I came back across this hotel looking for a place to stay and noticed my previous review was gone. I was going to ignore it until I saw the management's reply to another negative review on Yelp saying it was the 1st "they'd ever heard" about people not liking a cat wondering around a hotel. I know this is a flat out lie. I am allergic to cats. I had horrible asthma as a result of staying here but the worst part is that the entire place smelled of strong cat urine. We arrived late (like after midnight, arranged ahead of time) and the hotel left us a room key...for a family of 5 to stay in a room with one full sized bed. Clearly they had made a mistake and left us the wrong key. Right across the hall was an empty room, door open with no evidence of anyone being in the room so we took it. Evidently the hotel screwed up and gave our room to a man and his daughter and gave us the room for 2. Management was beyond rude. I even paid for the other guests room. I've never experienced a more unpleasant and horrible evening staying anywhere on multiple continents. Do not stay here. The only way they are open is because they are the only game in town. It's worth the drive to Hampton Inn...unless you like the smell of a litter box, rat droppings, filth, and plumbing that doesn't work. Honestly, I can't believe this place is still not shuttered by the health department. Don't be fooled by the surface charm it is nasty and run by nasty people. read more

The Hotel Limpia is a historic hotel built in 1912 which became a boarding house and apartments and is now a hotel again. It has that bed and breakfast cozy feel. You are greeted by your host and Tuxedo the cat. We were given keys to one of the upstairs rooms but told if we wanted a different one to feel free to choose one. All rooms are decorated differently in period furnishings. The bathrooms are modern fixtures with an antique feel. And the shampoo type amenities are local upscale products including bubble bath for a nice bath in the ball and claw tub. There are sun porches and rocking porches to enjoy the cool Davis Mountain air. After dinner, we retired to the living room to sit in front of the fireplace. The host was so happy to see his guests enjoying all the amenities of the house. He supplied us with lots of firewood and several bottles of wine and liquor left by previous guests. This hotel is one that could be a destination place to stay for a few days of relaxation. read more

So this one comes with a story. This was the same road trip you saw me talking about already several times and we asked for a ground floor place, when we got there we got a room upstairs and they don't have an elevator. We needed a ground floor for several reasons. So after talking to the front desk we got a room at a different building and it was awesome. Next time this is what we will book. It was a large hallway, a full kitchen with table and a huge bedroom with a beautiful bathroom. It might be old but this is what gives it the charm we were looking for. So yes this is a place we will go back to next time we are in the area. And don't forget they also have a pool for the days that you want to take a swim or cool off after a hike in the area. read more

The Hotel Limpia is the centerpiece of a small mountain* town in West Texas. It sits right on the square, next to the library and the gift shop where you can buy any type of cross to hang on your wall, even a cross with plastic jewels on it. Why would a cross have plastic jewels on it? I seriously doubt bedazzling has a place in serious Christian liturgy but I digress, and should be talking about the hotel. The hotel is outstanding, the staff is incredible. I spent a lazy Sunday afternoon out by their pool on a deck chair reading a novel about North Korea. There was a hammock provided, shady pine trees, red rocking chairs, a fridge and a microwave were in the room. The suite was cheap, and there are enough tourist attractions around Fort Davis to fill up a day. The building is old, the furnishings are old, and the provided TV is tiny. I dont see why anyone would care about what size the TV is in such a beautiful environment, but just in case, it is tiny. The purpose of this place is to be old, and lazy, and slightly faded. That is the true charm in the Hotel Limpia, and its refreshing - at least coming from a place like Dallas - where "fusion", "swanky" and "luxury" are vomit-worthy additions to any accomodation pitch. There is an adorable cat in the lobby and the restaurant attached to the hotel has delicious food. We loved our second floor room which was private, large, and impeccably clean. The bathroom, particularly, was charming. Sitting on the porch alone was worth the price of admission. Here's the thing: all BnB's and historic hotels are, IMHO, a bit of a head trip. I mean, if you wanted elevators, a state of the art thermostat, and a brand-new lobby (sans cat and sans courthouse bells), you'd stay at the Hampton, right? West Texas requires a bit of effort: it isn't within a day's drive of anything familiar, easy, or homogenized. Its charms and its drawbacks are one and the same. So take the bad with the good and enjoy this friendly, quiet, clean hotel, adjacent to the prettiest scenery in Texas. read more

I recently stayed at the Hotel Limpia for a business trip (June 9-11). I loved my stay at the hotel. The staff is extremely friendly, accommodating and courteous. I stayed in a suite that was not located in the main building of the hotel. The suite was fabulous! The room featured a king sized antique canopy bed, a sitting area with a tv, tv in the bedroom, mini fridge, microwave, coffee maker (with coffee and coffee extras), a dinette table, and a clawfoot tub in the bathroom. The bathroom had plenty of guest towels, hairdryer, soaps and extra toilet paper. The room was clean and lovely. I enjoyed the antique feel and the A/C worked well. The wi-fi for my room worked very well too and was free. The grounds feature a nice courtyard that connects to the Bistro restaurant and bar. They also offer a swimming pool - kept very clean. Across the street from the hotel is a variety of little shops, a diner and other businesses. The hotel is also within walking distance of the county courthouse and county library. Other sights worth seeing: Fort Davis McDonald Observatory (check calendar for their "star parties") Balmorhea State Park Indian Lodge I definitely recommend staying at the Hotel Limpia and will be back sometime in the future. read more

Don't let the outside fool you. Go in and see the inside of this gorgeous historic hotel. We had a surprisingly great stay in February 2021. We stayed in a suite that was almost like an apartment, with a sitting room, separate sleeping rooms, a kitchen and dining area. The best part was that it was historic with beautiful vintage furniture and decor. My son didn't want to leave. The front desk manager was really nice and helpful. I liked that we were separated by huge plastic barriers at the front desk, so I felt more safe covid-wise. We enjoyed takeout from the Blue Mountain restaurant on the property. It was on par with the excellent restaurants we have here in Austin. They somehow managed to make kale so delicious that even my picky son liked it. We enjoyed the Davis Mountains, the Marfa Lights, and this charming historic hotel on our way to Big Bend. We'll be back. read more

If you're into historic hotels, then this is for you. You'll be on their central air settings as there are no adjustments you can make...not even to the slow turning ceiling fan in the 10' tall rooms. You'll be doing your part conserving water in the shower as the room we stayed in had a low pressure/volume shower head. I hope you enjoy being misted! You're right across the street from the courthouse & it's wonderful that chimes every hour...and I mean EVERY hour. And since you'll probably have the window open because it's so warm in your room, like we did, you can enjoy the courthouse bells ALL night long. The beds are comfortable & the staff courteous. Very little wifi upstairs, but the did have color cable tv on the 17" tv's. Little on the pricy side. read more
