Great ambiance and the food was delicious. We had the harvest salad and a steak with some wine! We stayed at the hotel and I loved sitting out on the balcony at night. I would go again just for a weekend getaway in a heartbeat.

I really can't say enough good things about this hotel. Not only are the surroundings beautiful and secluded, but all of the employees (Bo, Mason, and Wes) are incredibly friendly. The hotel and ranch were built fairly recently, so the rooms are new construction, but still have the west Texas charm. The pool and hot tub are amazing, and they offer trap and skeet as well as jeep tours on the ranch. I can't wait to go back, and I'll definitely be booking more days this time.

I can't figure out how to delete my review! I've never been inside this place so all I can say is that it's well-located and was probably named for the Harvard University researchers who came down this way in the early 1900s, I believe.

There's a ranch of the same name that these people also manage that is more expensive out on Sproul Ranch.

Absolutely Wonderful Stay -- Especially for Dog Lovers!…read more We stayed at the Butterfield Inn in early June and had the best experience. We were in Unit 3, which was not only spotless and beautifully decorated, but also super cozy with a fireplace we actually got to use! It was perfect for us and our two big Labradors--plenty of space, comfort, and most importantly, true dog-friendliness. The service here is what really blew us away. I accidentally left my credit card behind, and the owner personally brought it to us. When we got a flat tire on our way out of town, she helped us find someone local to fix it fast. That kind of care and hospitality is rare and unforgettable. The new gift shop is absolutely adorable. I picked up a Texas Hummingbird book that I'm already loving, and there were so many unique finds--definitely worth stopping in even if you're not staying overnight. If you're heading to Fort Davis--especially with dogs--you HAVE to stay here. It's charming, clean, welcoming, and run by truly kind people. Can't recommend it enough!

The service leaves nothing to be desired, great communication from the beginning. Jennifer stayed in contact all along until we arrived to the location. Our cottage, number one, was beautiful! Everything we expected and more. Clean, nicely decorated, spacious, stocked with coffee, a mini fridge and a microwave oven. The patio is charming, clean a private enough to be enjoyed when the weather is nice. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to anyone looking for a place in this charming, little town.

We were pleasantly surprised, especially given the "curb appeal" of the place!…read more This was our fist time visiting West Texas. We had done some research and realized that we needed to "set out expectations" for what to expect on our trip. That being said "Rustic" is an understatement!!!! Now, on to this particular establishment......... VERY laid back with self check-in/out. We only encountered two staff members during our stay, and they were both very friendly and "colorful" (in a good way). The accommodations, while small, and VERY RUSTIC, were clean, and thoughtfully laid out. It had ample places for our luggage, hanging clothes, toiletries, etc., and a kitchenette with coffee maker, microwave, fridge, and a sink which doubled for the bathroom sink. There was a make up dresser for my wife, with a mirror, but no hair dryer (which their website had stated would be the case, so no surprises there). The "compound" had a nicely appointed community pavilion, though it was a bit chilly at night when we were there, and we were exhausted, so we didn't use it. The bed was comfortable, and the heating/AC unit worked properly and wasn't unusually noisy. We left before the cafe was open, and they had closed by the time we checked in, so we didn't get a chance to try it, but the lingering food odor was wonderful, so we were a bit disappointed that we missed out. The ONLY comment I have is that the price, WHILE LESS THAN SOME OF THE OTHER PLACES WE ENCOUNTERED ON THIS TRIP, seemed a tad on the high end. We are generally a Hilton/Best Western/Holiday Inn Express type of client and we paid about the same for "Rustic" as we would for typical lodging at one of those establishments. That being said, this was the best lodging VALUE we experienced during our stay in West Texas, so not really a complaint. We would/will stay there again if/when we're out that way, again.

We booked the two-bedroom suite with a kitchen, which was spacious and clean. Although we didn't end up using the kitchen (we opted for a nearby restaurant instead), it was a nice option to have. The main bedroom had a lovely bathroom with a clawfoot tub and a vintage wall heater that added to the charm. The second bedroom had a smaller bathroom, with the sink just outside the door--compact, but functional. The rollaway bed in the living area was a great bonus so our son didn't have to sleep on the couch. The air conditioning worked really well, which was a relief during our summer stay. The lobby area is full of character, with cozy seating areas, a reading room, and even a conference room--all decorated in a warm, old-school style with touches like a chandelier that give it so much personality. WiFi was a little spotty but worked well enough when it did connect. Parking was easy--we had a covered spot right outside our room.

The downtown squat will take you back in time, and the stone and log buildings are truly gorgeous. We stayed upstairs, but unlike some other older buildings we've stayed in the stairs weren't tall or narrow - the walk was easy on my old knees. The room had a/c and very hot water which was nice after a long drive. Fort Davis is very remote, so pack some extra snacks and drinks because the shopping options are limited. The sky is gorgeous at night, and the mountains create lots of beautiful photo ops. Be mindful of the local wildlife, though, as the javelinas run rampant and travel in packs. We loved the hotel, and will definitely stay here again. Barbara and Sarah were very friendly and helpful, and both are a credit to the local community!

Instead of any effort to understand our situation, we were met with a lecture about fairness to them while completely dismissing fairness to the guest. Their message made it clear: they'd rather keep your money than show basic hospitality or decency. We canceled with nearly a week's notice--not a last-minute no-show--but were told it was "unlikely the room would rebook" and that it wouldn't be "fair" to offer a refund. That level of rigidity, coupled with a passive-aggressive tone and a "we don't care if you come back" attitude, says all you need to know. If you value respectful communication, flexibility, or even the slightest customer care, stay anywhere else. This is not a place that values its guests--only your money.

There are 3 single king rooms and 3 double queen rooms. There is a small balcony at the end of the hallway (also fire escape), and a large gathering room at the front. There is an ice chest for guests there also. The beds are extremely comfortable! Restaurant: open all day for breakfast, lunch and dinner. You order at the counter, get a # and choose a table to wait for your order which is brought to you. You can also sit at the counter to order milkshakes, soda floats, etc. There is a small gift shop with items at the front and at the back near the restrooms. They also sell single slices of pie. The hotel checkin is inside the restaurant. There are a few tables outside to eat also. Prices are reasonable and staff is really friendly. Fun fact: Wed. April 27, 2022 the entire property was sold to new owners. We randomly met the wife on the street that day. Her, her husband and adult son moved here from Minnesota to become the new owners. The adult son will manage the restaurant. Not sure how things will change, if at all. Note to owners: the beds in room #6 are too high. Either provide foot stools or get lower beds.
