He went outside, came back with a key and the only 2 words he ever uttered were "cabin 2". Cabin 2 met us with a plunger by the front door. Inside was quite a nightmare. No way to ask for another room as the place was closed at this point. Bathroom door broken--has a gate latch that doesn't close all the way, floors filthy and covered in sticker burrs, spiders in the bathroom, the soaps and shampoos were obviously refilled-not new-and dirty and stuck to the glass shelve. The TV was falling off the wall, there was a hole in the front door and the back of the door was covered in some sort of dirt (bug dirt?). Multiple spider webs in room. The positives were the fridge and microwave were clean and operational, the bed wasn't really comfy but seemed to be clean, and the AC worked. We were immediately looking for other hotel rooms even though we had prepaid for 2 nights. Unfortunately--April in this area is a big time for visiting Big Bend, so there was nothing to be had. We seriously considered sleeping in the truck... The reviews and photos I saw before booking sure look good, but they are very deceptive. Buyer beware!!

Im not a big drinker and therefore wanted to travel for my bday. I think my group and I were stereotyped and therefore received a negative review. Apparently we kept a family and their kids up all night long... First off we were on the outside which meant there was only one loft next to us. The first night we stayed there we had just drove 7 hours and didn't stay up past 10. The next morning when we woke up the only people in the loft next to us were one of the ladies that runs the guest lofts cleaning. We were told In the review we were too loud and didn't follow the rules. There is no possible way we kept anyone up all night long. We never stayed up past 12 and didn't wake up until 9. I didn't even finish a four pack of beer and one of the people in my group was sick. The only "kids" I saw were two preteens throwing knives at stuff in the courtyard. I take it Guest Lofts are not a fan of young adults. I think they could have handled the situation better and maybe talked to us in person or let us know there was supposedly someone staying next to us.

Bring you won coffee maker and skip the chi-chi coffee places down town. The wife and I actually pulled off Thanksgiving lunch for our family of four quite well out of the room there. This ain't the Taj Mahal... but is a good, clean, safe, comfortable place to stay. The rooms well appointed and most of all... AFFORDABLE. (This is forty years of experience in Alpine talking...) There are Barbeque pits and fire rings with firewood supplied. There are swing sets for the kiddos... safe parking and a warm family atmosphere. Sam's 'El Bombo Grande!' I loved the metallic painted ceilings that created such a cool effect as you walked down the halls, especially around dawn and dusk. The mirrors in the Lobby capture your eye while brightening the room in a glamorous fashion. While I did not get to indulge in a Spa treatment, the specialty made lotions, shampoo & conditioner in generous portions was a welcomed treat. While the pool was sooo tempting, I found myself falling asleep early in the evening in those super comfy beds. We did have one take out meal outdoors in the shaded sitting area by the pool. The locals could not have been more warm and friendly, even the local reptiles are calm and friendly. (See photo) I had a flat tire during my stay and it was minutes before I had a smiling local offering to help me air my tire back up. Having a fresh organic food truck steps away from the Bottle House was the greatest surprise. It's like having your own personal chef on call. I was so pleased to have delicious healthy food options near. The scenery surrounding the Bottle House is nothing short of breathtaking. On my drive into West Texas from Austin I literally gasped at the sight of such beauty once I hit the West Texas mountainous landscape. I was in awe. The beautiful natural landscape is captivating and can be admired while driving into town and from your front porch. Alpine is a treasure. It is a beautiful quick drive to Marfa from the Bottle House. I had planned on making day trips to Marfa several days of my stay but ended up enjoying relaxing and exploring Alpine so much that I had to extend my trip by a day to give myself a chance to see Marfa. I couldn't get enough of how charming this BnB is. Liz has thought of absolutely everything one could need to be made comfortable and feel completely at home. Inside the rooms, there is a small tv with cable and HBO, a mini-fridge, microwave (NO COFFEE MAKER...), and a window unit. The room was clean and everything worked. What more could you want. The place seems family-owned. When we left on Labor Day, the office was closed but the woman cleaning rooms told us to simply leave our keys in the room when we left. The ice 'machine' isn't so much a machine, but a cooler full of ice. Fine by us. If it bugs you, walk across the street to the gas station and by a bag. I'm pretty sure that's what the motel owner does every day.
