    Pool - unheated

I knew going in this was a historical hotel so I wasn't expecting brand new fancy fixtures, furniture and amenities. Which is good because for thr price we paid I would have been disappointed like many others. It was nice to stay once because of the history and being a big fan of the movie Giant. That being said, there was a funky smell upon arrival. A half drank Gatorade bottle on the floor next to the bed, cracked tiles with a poor patch job, a stain on the top blanket and dirty glasses and mugs. But we didnt let it spoil our trip. I appreciated that there was a small mini fridge in the closet. The rooms are small but we were mostly there just to sleep so that was fine with us. I also like thay they have towels already down at the pool. The pool is not heated and even though it was quite warm outside it was freezing! No breakfast or room service, which in my opinion would make the cost worth it. There was however, coffee in the morning downstairs and a few prepackaged muffins. Hotel is beautiful. Elevator was broken and apparently has been for some time but its only a flight of stairs. Glad we got to experience once.

Historic hotel in the center of it all! Wander through and see the pictures from the movie, Giant. We Had drinks in the bar to watch the game , but the outdoor patio is adorable. There was also a TV in the bar area so we could catch the Red River Rivalry game. There is a sizable gift shop on the first floor filled with art gallery space and Knick knacks to buy.

Imagine, the year,1956,the town Marfa Texas, the Hotel Paisano. The Filming of the movie Giant is scheduled to start filming soon. Then one by one, James Dean,Rock Hudson Elisabeth Taylor and others start checking into the beautiful Historic Hotel Paisano. What a time that must have been.

Very vintage vibes! If you're into old Hollywood and the movie Giant, then def the place for you. I personally don't love an antique hotel, but if you do this is certainly the place for you. Inside was a bit dated, but again, got the description. Went to Jet's Grill both nights I stayed and the food was impressive! Loved the chicken fried steak.

Unless you live in Texas or have business at the border, you never will visit the town of Marfa or the Hotel Paisano. I spent 5 nights at Hotel Paisano. The nights were quiet, and dark. Each morning at 6 I went downstairs for a cup of coffee then drove for an hour during sunrise to Presidio. From there I was transported across the border to Ojinaga. Because of a confluence of circumstances, the entire week was a practice in mindfulness. The hotel is where the cast of the motion picture Giant stayed during filming in 1955. This is only a part of what makes it special. It won't try to describe the nuance and gravitas of Paisano, but it's worth mentioning that the mural-sized pictures of the cast and crew that are everywhere are magnetic; Elizabeth Taylor, James Dean and Rock Hudson. The photo of James Dean in the hotel bar could have been taken last week. Timeless. An amazing portrait of him having fun with Elizabeth Taylor, except there is no way to know Elizabeth Taylor is even in the picture unless one has studied the rest of the images around the hotel. It struck me. The picture was taken in July 1955. In September that same year - less than 90 days later, Dean was killed in a car crash in California. Be present. Fun fact... James Dean was a few months older than Elizabeth Taylor. They were contemporaries.

After much anticipation and research of The Giant, we were so excited to arrive after a stop In Junction overnight on our way from Houston. I learned to slow down a bit and relax. We arrived for our reservations for two at the thanksgiving buffet at 12:30 on Thursday 2022. It was set up beautifully! Great staff at check-in to check-out. Rooms were clean with fresh towels and toiletries. The numerous gift shops are so cool and offer such a variety! I love the large photos of the filing of The Giant. So cool knowing James Dean was in room 223 and I am also here!

Quaint, timeless design. Furniture is not in line with style of hotel. Too modern and honestly, too cheap for the space. Staff is excellent, super helpful and welcoming. The guys at the front desk are the best. The wifi was not working at all most of the time when we were there. It was a busy festival weekend, but it was very frustrating, since we were counting on it. Overall, a nice experience in west Texas, just not quite the accommodations we were expecting.

AMAZING! Slice of history. Great service with just enough eccentricity. I loved the GOOD coffee in the lobby...the shops on the first floor. The central location. The charm. The "Old Money" feel. It is THE place for an old Texas, bougie experience. Guys: Do NOT bring your girlfriend here unless you want to get married. Also...AVOID the restaurant.

Perfect location, super cute historic hotel. We found easy, free street parking and checked in quickly. All staff were wearing masks. The receptionist saw that it was our wedding anniversary and upgraded our room to a larger room with a private patio and fireplace which was very nice. We were on our 25 year wedding anniversary trip to the Big Bend area. The room and bed was comfortable. There was a mini fridge, coffee maker, full bathroom, and the typical room appointments. The alarm clock was from the 1980s and was making weird static noises so I ultimately unplugged it. The extractor fan in the bathroom was not healthy and when I turned it on, it made so much noise it sounded like it would break any moment. The shower was nice and the soap, shampoo and conditioner was nice. I loved the old school, historic vibe of the hotel. It was a lovely patio, lobby, and shopping area. The location is ideal with walking around the town. The restaurant we had dinner at was very good, Jett's Grill. We were seated on the patio, make reservations! We also got breakfast tacos (which ended up being a burrito) which was good and huge! We would definitely stay here again!

This place is a true throwback to the good times. Everything was kept to the tee! Service is a 5 star. Can't go wrong with humble and kind staff who feel like old friends. Room is a 5 star with the cleanliness, toiletries, fireplace on the patio and plushy bed. There isn't a phone in the rooms either. Learn to unplug. Food is delicious. The restaurant has a nice menu and variety of fancy and comfort. Remember to check when they are open because some places are only open on certain days (1 of 3 kind of fancier places in town) The town itself is so soo cool. Art and Instagrammable moments everywhere. The water tower, the old buildings, railroads, museums, the cactus, the old charm, newish and oldish hotels and local places around down. My favs is The Get Go grocery (1 of 2 only places in town) A must stay! Loved it here will be back.

The hotel has an aesthetic that fits right into Marfa, minimalism, nice art all about, more geometric forms than you can shake a stick at! We didn't get to use the pool 'cuz we forgot our suits, but we went to check it out and it was fantastic, we'll make sure to pack them next time! The linens and bedding were so good--super comfortable and cozy (Hi, Marfa brand I think?). Honestly, I wanted to take them home with me... if anyone knows where to buy them online, let me know. The Aesop bath products were also a big plus, though they accidentally had the hand soap in the shower and the body wash at the sink--and since they're locked in, there's no swapping them. Minor detail, but a little funny. Rooms themselves are large, open, and feel spacious, which I appreciated. Now for the downsides. The biggest issue was noise. You can hear pretty much everything--people walking above, talking next door, doors constantly slamming. Not ideal if you're hoping for a quiet, restful stay. The lighting in the room was also a bit lacking--definitely could've used an extra lamp or two to warm things up. The overall design is nice but starting to feel a little dated... kind of like a W Hotel refresh from around 2015 that hasn't been touched since. And the bathroom sink... I don't know what's going on there, but without any kind of filter on the spout, the water splashes everywhere. I somehow ended up with a wet shirt and pants just from washing my hands. A couple other things to note: the restaurant and bar seem to close early (around 9:30), and when we were heading out at 10, nothing was open--so not sure if they offer breakfast or coffee in the morning. If not, that feels like a missed opportunity. All that said, the staff was friendly and welcoming, and for a small town like Marfa with limited options, it's still a solid choice. Would I stay again? Probably. Would I call it luxury? Meh.

The pool is unheated and I didn't end up using it but did enjoy watching TV at night in the Guest Lounge which also has a microwave, mini fridge, bathroom facilities, a comfy sectional couch and a selection of board games. It's about a 15 min. walk into town. March is off-season for this area but found a number of wonderful places to eat or drink: Bordos, Planet Marfa, Jett's Grill... Not that big of a deal but a little annoying. The room itself felt old. Old school metal keys, no TV, small room and old furniture (more antique like than outdated). Of course, my lady friend packed everything and the kitchen sink in her bag forcing me to carry it up the stairs. The grounds are great. Cool courtyard with various fire pits. The White Buffalo bar, V-6 coffee shop and the 12 Gage restaurant are also connected to the hotel. Plus, they own an art gallery, a distillery, and I think the pizza place, brewery and bbq place down the block. Don't get fired from Gage if you work here, there aren't a lot of other places to get employed. You'd have to move! We had drinks at the Buffalo Bar before walking down to Ghostfire pizza. We didn't get reservation in time to eat at the 12 Gage but that was fine because the pizza was really good. Our stay at Marfa House was nothing short of delightful, offering the kind of comfort and space that immediately puts you at ease. We booked the Bandelero Suite, and it felt far more like a thoughtfully designed apartment than a typical hotel room. With two bedrooms, two full bathrooms, a small living area, and access to a balcony, it provided more than enough room for our family of four to spread out and relax. The primary suite featured a cozy queen bed and private bath, while the second bedroom--equipped with two doubles that could be combined--offered flexibility and comfort, even with its more compact bathroom. What truly elevated the experience was the fully equipped kitchen, complete with a full-size refrigerator, stove, microwave, and dishwasher, everything you'd need to settle in for more than just a short stay. It had all the creature comforts of home, making it easy to imagine lingering a little longer. Even small touches stood out: when we realized an iron and ironing board weren't in the room, the staff promptly delivered one and kindly pointed us to extra towels available nearby, adding to the welcoming, low-key hospitality. Its location made it an ideal home base for exploring Marfa and beyond, with easy drives to landmarks like the film location for the iconic movie "Giant" staring Elizabeth Taylor, Rock Hudson and James Dean. Down the road was, the iconic Prada Marfa, and to the east is the McDonald Observatory, and Balmorhea State Park. While it may not carry the same historic prestige as Hotel Paisano or the sleek edge of Hotel Saint George, Marfa House has a charm all its own--modern, comfortable, artistic, and refreshingly affordable.
