From checking in, which was extremely efficient, to the care exhibited by those working the St George, the establishment is both friendly and welcoming. The rooms are well taken care of; we stay in the Highland Suite, a gorgeous room with a great view. The cleaners respond quickly to the sort of cleaning you'd like, from green to a full clean, and the rooms are spacious. My wife wanted to take the mattress and pillows home, and the art lining the walls is stunning. We had a great view, big picture windows, and for those of you who enjoy relaxing in front of the television, our room has TWO! But we barely had the time to watch television because of the pool and fitness room, both tied to the hotel. The pool is huge and there's a hot tub to die for. The Hotel St George is the perfect get away spot, but be careful; you might run into Will Ferrell or Wes Anderson: this is the hotel that luminaries like Kevin Bacon stay in when filming shows such as I LOVE DICK. The Aesop bath products were also a big plus, though they accidentally had the hand soap in the shower and the body wash at the sink--and since they're locked in, there's no swapping them. Minor detail, but a little funny. Rooms themselves are large, open, and feel spacious, which I appreciated. Now for the downsides. The biggest issue was noise. You can hear pretty much everything--people walking above, talking next door, doors constantly slamming. Not ideal if you're hoping for a quiet, restful stay. The lighting in the room was also a bit lacking--definitely could've used an extra lamp or two to warm things up. The overall design is nice but starting to feel a little dated... kind of like a W Hotel refresh from around 2015 that hasn't been touched since. And the bathroom sink... I don't know what's going on there, but without any kind of filter on the spout, the water splashes everywhere. I somehow ended up with a wet shirt and pants just from washing my hands. A couple other things to note: the restaurant and bar seem to close early (around 9:30), and when we were heading out at 10, nothing was open--so not sure if they offer breakfast or coffee in the morning. If not, that feels like a missed opportunity. All that said, the staff was friendly and welcoming, and for a small town like Marfa with limited options, it's still a solid choice. Would I stay again? Probably. Would I call it luxury? Meh.

Accessibility and mobility concerns were a factor in our decision, and Hotel Paisano's website gave no indication that its elevator was out of service. Upon arrival, we were informed that the elevator was not working and would not be repaired during our stay. Every guest room requires climbing at least one flight of stairs, making this a significant issue for anyone with mobility limitations. What was most disappointing was not just the outage itself, but the fact that it was never disclosed before our arrival. We were also told at check-in that the restaurant was closed for renovations and no food service would be available. One of the reasons I selected this hotel was because the restaurant menu looked more appealing than those offered by other hotels in town. Again, this information was not communicated in advance. We were informed that the bar would remain open until 3 p.m. each day. However, when we visited around noon on Saturday, we were told we could not order drinks because the space was being reserved for a private party later that evening. That same party continued until 10 pm and the noise was loud enough to be clearly heard from our room. The party guests extended into the pool area. Event attendees were allowed to use the pool, and guests in formal attire were jumping into the water fully clothed. While that may have been entertaining for those attending the event, it created an atmosphere that felt more like a private venue rental than a hotel serving paying guests who were expecting a quiet and relaxing stay. The guests were also taking photos with a very bright flash camera. Every flash penetrated through both the sheer and formal sets of curtains in our room and made relaxing and sleeping impossible. Any one of these issues might have been manageable had they been disclosed before booking. Instead, guests were left to discover them only after arrival. I was particularly troubled by the apparent lack of concern regarding guests with mobility challenges. When a property has no practical access to guest rooms except by stairs due to an inoperable elevator, that information should be communicated prominently before a reservation is made so travelers can make informed decisions based on their needs. The hotel seems to rely heavily on its historic reputation and charm, but historic character should not come at the expense of transparency, accessibility, or guest service. The elevator outage, restaurant closure, restricted bar access, and late-night private event created an experience that felt far different from what was advertised.

In fact, it was quite delicious! The chicken fried steak was good as well, but the portion was a bit small and the sides were nothing to write home about. Was the burger worth $18? Probably not, but to be fair, I'm not sure that any burger is deserving of such a price. That being said, it was indeed a tasty burger if you don't mind the price. Was the chicken fried steak worth $20? Certainly not. Truly an average dish with small portions, we both feel the decision was regrettable at such a price point. In conclusion, with a juicy burger, an average chicken fried steak, and a limited menu with overpriced entrees, the Harvard Hotel receives a 3 star rating.

The front desk was very polite but informed us it wouldn't be ready until 3. No worries, we walked over to the Gage Gardens. Basically, a botanical garden and the only thing green in all of West Texas. It only takes about 15 minutes to walk through it but is very nice. We then went to the brewery/bbq spot to have a few beers while we wait. We went back to the reception desk at 3:45 and room still not ready. We actually didn't get in until about 4:30. Not that big of a deal but a little annoying. The room itself felt old. Old school metal keys, no TV, small room and old furniture (more antique like than outdated). There isn't much insulation as you will hear any noise going on in the hallway. There is no elevator so don't stay on the 2nd floor if you can't walk up a flight of stairs. Of course, my lady friend packed everything and the kitchen sink in her bag forcing me to carry it up the stairs. The grounds are great. Cool courtyard with various fire pits. The White Buffalo bar, V-6 coffee shop and the 12 Gage restaurant are also connected to the hotel. Plus, they own an art gallery, a distillery, and I think the pizza place, brewery and bbq place down the block. Don't get fired from Gage if you work here, there aren't a lot of other places to get employed. You'd have to move! We had drinks at the Buffalo Bar before walking down to Ghostfire pizza. We didn't get reservation in time to eat at the 12 Gage but that was fine because the pizza was really good. There are various style rooms, and we got basically the cheapest one at 289.00 (with taxes and fees) . I don't think it's worth the price for what we received but the hotel itself is decent.

Everything was clean and perfect for our stay. AND RATHER SPACIOUS It never felt cramped inside. That sheer curtain also works great, space miracles. We also liked how right outside the door was a small, vegetation-filled courtyard. It was a bit too chilly for us to take advantage of but it mentally made us feel very relaxed upon entering.

However, I was extremely dissapointed and annoyed when I received my review back from the Guest Lofts. We came to Alpine to celebrate me turning 21. Im not a big drinker and therefore wanted to travel for my bday. I think my group and I were stereotyped and therefore received a negative review. Apparently we kept a family and their kids up all night long... First off we were on the outside which meant there was only one loft next to us. The first night we stayed there we had just drove 7 hours and didn't stay up past 10. The next morning when we woke up the only people in the loft next to us were one of the ladies that runs the guest lofts cleaning. We were told In the review we were too loud and didn't follow the rules. There is no possible way we kept anyone up all night long. We never stayed up past 12 and didn't wake up until 9. I didn't even finish a four pack of beer and one of the people in my group was sick. The only "kids" I saw were two preteens throwing knives at stuff in the courtyard. I take it Guest Lofts are not a fan of young adults. I think they could have handled the situation better and maybe talked to us in person or let us know there was supposedly someone staying next to us.

Not finding reviews for this place I was not sure what to expect. Marfa House is a 3 story building that has been transformed into a place with several individual bedrooms with private bathrooms. Some with balconies. There is a common area with a fire pit and TV by the back entrance that is very enjoyable. And there is also a large living room with a nice sofa chairs and a small high top table to sit and eat or chat, play games or just enjoy. Sonya is the host that does the booking and handles the needs of the guests and she does a GREAT job at meeting the needs of guests. Roger is the owner, and he has a personality as big as TEXAS with a heart to match. Husband and I were lucky to meet and talk to Roger. I highly recommend Marfa House as a great place to stay in Marfa Texas. Please follow the house rules and park according, remove shoes in room and mind quiet hours.
