Stopped by this afternoon to check out the new place. Looked pretty cool! My husband and I asked to sit at the bar upstairs. We took our seats and were handed food menus right away- great start. Waited awhile with no recognition from the bartender. I finally asked "Do you have a beer menu?" He rudely replied "yes-trying to get caught up here." First off, just wanted to look at a beer menu. Takes 1 second. Second, usually when you sit at a bar someone says hello, how are you? Be right with you. That type of thing. The guy today was awful. I would also recommend for folks sitting at a bar to have a QR code provided on either the bar or food menu so someone can peruse the tap list without having to "bother" someone. read more

Was in Cascade Locks for business for a week. Frequented this place a few times. The bartender was friendly. Food was great. Tried a burger with peanut butter on it for the first time. Delicious! Ahhh I wished I lived in Oregan just so I could go here! My fiancé and I were on vacation and staying across he river in Stevenson, WA, we were looking for a chill place for dinner and found this place on yelp. It's such a relaxed environment, with an awesome patio that overlooks the water. You pay at the counter and then sit down with your number. Our food came out quickly. I was SO excited when I saw they had vegan cheese as a option... I had the vegan nachos and they were SOO good, I finished the plate, no regrets. Overall one of my favorite restaurants in Oregan. I loved the nachos so much that we came back two days later to get take out. If you're in the area definitely check this place out and enjoy a drink on the patio while you're waiting for your food. The beer was good, the views fabulous, the wrap was good - not great so all this adds up to four stars. I'm not an IPA fan so the crisp, drinkable Easy Climb Golden Ale suited me just fine. Hubby had a flight of four beers which he enjoyed as much as he could taste them (he has a head cold). My wrap had all the ingredients to make it very flavorful but it was just missing a little something. Limited inside dining and outside picnic tables that would be shareable if more crowded. For $12, I received 3 teeny tiny and 2 very large pieces of roasted cauliflower smothered in hot sauce. No breading. Just 5 pieces of roasted cauliflower. The portion size was shockingly small for the price. The teeny pieces got lost in the sauce. The large pieces were difficult to eat.... This recipe needs to be quality checked. Kinda bummed that the new location seems to have changed the vibe of this once small and friendly brewery. Most of the staff are still friendly and helpful but the ones that are not stand out. The host and the person pouring the beer were both put out that they had customers there. We were put at an awful table because the host didn't believe that I had called to change my reservation. Having come here twice, both on semi-special occasions, I feel as if 5-stars is worthy for both visits. Less than an hour outside of Portland in Cascade Locks, you get the feel of a small town community. It is easily accessible for access on and off I-84. There is plenty of parking, and I can imagine the place is packed during the summer with all of the great hiking in the area. The first visit was in September, with my sister, brother, his wife and our parents when they were visiting from North Carolina. My mother has issues with mobility, and they were more than accommodating. My second visit was a couple of weeks ago after hiking Wahclella with my siblings. On both visits, we were greeted warmly. They have indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor seating has beautiful views of the Columbia River and Washington. Grab a menu, then step out of the way for others to be able to step up to the counter to order if they are busy. If only beer is needed, there is a separate line for that. Once you have decided, step up to the counter and place your order. I ordered the Salmon sandwich on both occasions, and it was cooked perfectly. Everyone else ordered burgers, wraps and salads. No one had any complaints with the food. I had a beer called "Tears of a Unicorn" which was a golden red color and was quite tasty. The others ordering beers were also pleased with their selections. There were items for sale, like glass ware, shirts and sweatshirts. They all appeared to be of good quality. Beautiful scenery, wonderful service and great food. What more can you ask for? read more

So I have a golden rule. If I have to wait more than 20 minutes to be waited on the establishment is not worth my time. Because obviously I'm not worth theirs. Visited OR with my hubby and son and this was my favorite stop. I had the BLT with the Sojourner Hefe. What a perfect lunch. Son had the pulled pork and really liked it. Hubby had a chili dog with Marion berry Cider and liked it. Beautiful views. Loved the outdoor seating. My favorite thing was the Trail Magic pint program. Buy a pint in advance for a thru hiker of the PCT. How awesome! I bought a couple and I hope to someday be one of the thru hikers drinking one. I will definitely recommend Thunder Island to anyone I know traveling there and I hope to also visit again someday. read more

I'm telling you the food is awesome! Fun watching the other patrons meals. They all looked great and I saw a lot of satisfied customers. Wanted to sit outside, it was too long of wait. Inside was great! Great views and the garage doors everywhere was a nice touch. They were out of the cider my partner wanted. The wait staff uniforms were a bit too casual.
