I really enjoyed the food. Had great flavor and good ingredients. The beer was fantastic, definitely recommend their Hazy. They have a beer for every flavor palette. Sports playing on the TV and a chill Atmosphere .If you are in the DT area, recommend stopping by.

backwards brewing was a great find They had apparel and drinks to go. The service was good since they were very patient with us in selecting beers and drinks to go. The ambience was a brewery and sit down restaurant

Our next brewery stop wasn't far away so we just walked. Love when things are so close. Backwoods Brewing had a very northwest feeling to it, which I liked. Aside from the beer, they also have food and a happy hour menu. We ordered the Fried Artichokes, which were absolutely wonderful. Honestly, in my opinion, breweries do need to have a food menu or at the least a food truck to serve their patrons. We often look for places with food or will choose those places over others that don't. Finding breweries that have things for everyone is important, many people only like specific styles, like me with sours and ciders or many people don't drink alcohol but want to be social with their friends that do.

We loved their great happy hour! They have $1 beers, $2 off wine, and food that easily serves as meals. Corndogs were awesome--the bread was crispy with a soft center. The chicken strips had a nice crisp coating and tender meat. The standard tator tots were perfect crispy, seasoned right. We also tried some Cajun tater tots and they were too intense for us. This is not a complaint--take it as a warning that those tots will serve up Cajun burning! The boozy bear was amazing and easy to drink. There were also 3 gummy bears topping it! We found we could easily drink many without realizing we were getting drunk! We also had beer flight. They had 16 choices at the time we visited. There were dark, wheat, and even fruity beers to try! Both times we came we had terrific, friendly service, from the hostess to the servers.

Found myself back in the neighborhood for a long weekend and quenched my thirst at Backwoods. Longing for the RIP City Remix, it certainly hit the spot. The place was packed and rightfully so, it's a great spot to catch a game. I had some yummy salty perfectly crispy sweet potato fries to go with the beer and it was so enjoyable! Upgrading my original review to five stars, well deserved!

Awesome brew pub and restaurant! We arrived on a busy Sunday with a party of 7 and it took a few minutes to get a few tables together for us. We had three kiddos with us and there was great kids menu. There was a great menu for us bigger kids too. Great beer assortment along with hard liquor and speciality drinks. I had a classic old fashion, hand muddled and perfectly made. The food was great, unfortunately I didn't get any pictures. Too busy eating and enjoying the food! The pub itself is large and surprisingly quiet even though being packed. They sell an assortment of swag and shirts. We'll be going back on our next time through Portland.

Pork belly BLT on Texas toast and tots were good. Service was great. Not terribly busy so the noise level was good today. Parking was street parking and not too difficult. Bonus points for brewing their own root beer!

We had a good time here - good service, lots of TVs, and nice casual vibes. We just got drinks but pretty much everyone else was also eating so it must be tasty!

This was stop number two on our first night in Portland... it was right around the corner from stop number one and both were down the street from our hotel. Big and cozy on the inside with lots of people enjoying the food and beer. We found a couple of seats at the bar and were quickly greeted by the bartender with water and menus. We ordered two flights (12 taster beers total) so we could try all of the beer! I enjoyed the winter warmers and my favorite was the stumbler, a big boozy barrel aged stout.

A lot of bartop seating and tables. Stopped in for a beer. Bartender was very attentive and friendly. Unfortunately , the "strawberry cream ale" I had was noticeably lacking in strawberry and cream ale flavors, drinking more like an session IPA. It wasn't bad, just zero shot I would have guessed the style based on taste.

    Dogs are not allowed here.

Went here with a service animal and had a very uninviting/rude encounter with an employee. We just left and went to River Pig (A++). Posting this mostly for people who filter by this feature like me.

    Chuggernaut IPA And Tater Tots

Came to this brewery that has a few taprooms in the Pacific Northwest, including this one in the Pearl District. It has a good variety to choose from. Backwoods is known for being available in many bars and convenience stores in the area. Has even more of a selection on tap with many rotating and seasonal ones. There's also food, fried things like tater tots and that kind of stuff. Amazingly it wasn't too busy when we came in. It's got more than enough room inside, with the bar and a few tables offering plenty of seating. There's a pretty good variety on tap. Has more than just the typical styles of beers. It's about $7 a pint. That's pretty okay for a craft brewery around this area it seems. Best one of these we had was the Chuggernaut IPA. This has notes of citrus, lime, and melon. Also we got some food. It's about $8 for tater tots. Bad thing is there's limited vegetarian choices. Has a pretty expensive quinoa salad and veggie wrap. Barbecued and fried is what they have mostly. There's burgers and wings among the meaty options. For sure it's another good place to get local beers. It's located on NW Everett Street at 11th. The beers are the best, but the food menu has some good things.

Garlic Parmesan Tots and Corn Dogs

Stopped in at backwoods during our visit to Portland. We were excited it was happy hour and we were gonna try some of food and beer when we received our food quickly. We were excited because we were hungry, but unfortunately, the corn dogs were very undercooked. Thankfully, the service was good and the staff replaced the undercooked corn dogs with fresh ones. The ambience of the restaurant was good. Lots of TVs for watching sports.

Their tap list is extensive but also includes non-standard options. We love to see non-alcoholic beers as well as gluten free beer, cider, cocktails, and other libations. The food menu is great too. There are several items that either come gluten free or can be modified to be. The servers are knowledgeable about the ingredients of the menu items and I feel confident and safe eating here when gluten free is a need for me. They can get pretty crowded, but have several seating options. It was nice out today so outdoor seating was even possible, though it looked like there was a wait. There are tvs in several spots that showcase local sports when possible. There is a kids area and you can sit close while the kids play. Everyone we come in contact with here from servers to hosts are super friendly and welcoming. The food is pretty good. This time around, we shared the garlic Parmesan fries and the chicken wings (buffalo and honey gojuchang sauces). The wings were smoked and moist with good flavor. The fries were alright. More of the aioli would have helped so maybe request extra sauce or get some on the side. The dessert menu has some non-traditional offerings. The highlight for me was the cheesecake. I was assured by a server one time that the chef creates a gluten free cheesecake that rotates on the seasonal dessert menu. The current offering is tiramisu. The coffee chocolate sauce is good and I appreciated the bonus chocolate chip biscotti. The actual cheesecake is decent and I would be excited to try other flavors in the future.

Great rooftop vibe and a fun place to hang out for an afternoon. We ordered a beer flight, and as someone who's had quite a few brewery flights and is pretty open-minded when it comes to beer, this one unfortunately missed the mark for me. Out of the 10 beers, only about 3 were somewhat enjoyable and around 4 were honestly undrinkable. Thankfully, the food redeemed things a bit. We got the pizza with artichoke hearts, mozzarella, ricotta, garlic, and basil. It was super flavorful and the dough was delicious, especially the crust. We also tried the catfish po' boy. It was a little salty, but the fish itself was cooked really well and the sauce was tasty. The spring mix salad with cranberries, slivered almonds, and feta was good too, though I personally would've liked a better toppings-to-lettuce ratio. Overall, I'd come back for the rooftop and food, but probably know to expect mediocre brews.

We ordered a salad and it took about 45 minutes to come out. Their kale Caesar was way better than I thought it would be for a bar! Very fresh with a delicious dressing. Simple with pepitas, kale and raddicio. Cheese and dressing. Their beers are some of my favorite from a local brewery. Their Cloud Mentality is a good choice for IPAs. The line gets long for the bar and there's no way to close your tab if you leave it open unless you're willing to wait in the line again to pay. If you don't do that you will be automatically charged 20% gratuity which is a good deal to not have to line up just to close out.

I am a big fan of the indoor/outdoor flow for the space, especially on nice weather afternoons like we have had recently. Outdoor seating is limited, so be prepared to sit inside. Interior seating is not the most comfortable, with former church bleachers that are quite bouncy or large and hard game of thrones-like high chairs. The team is super friendly and will send you to the food station or the bar depending on your needs, and, with the good quality Mexican cuisine on service, you'll want a taco or two. The brewery specializes in Hazy/IPAs, to come expecting to enjoy these PNW basics.
