Wayfinder Brewing absolutely nailed it. The bánh mì chicken sandwich was next-level--perfectly balanced, packed with flavor, and one of those meals you keep thinking about later. And the chips? Don't even think about upgrading your side--those are insanely good and honestly steal the show. The space itself is super cool too--industrial, open, and just a fun place to hang out. The brewery is right in the back, and you do get a bit of that brewing smell drifting into the restaurant. It didn't bother me, but it's definitely noticeable--kind of adds to the whole "you're in a real working brewery" vibe. Great food, great atmosphere, and absolutely worth a stop. read more

Parking can be a little rough as they have no dedicated lot, but being okay to walk a block and we've always had good success. I was in Portland recently to have some specialized work done on my car and spent the day roaming around the city. After having lunch at Deschutes, I Googled 'local breweries' and found a recommendation for Wayfinder attached to a note about pilsners ... I'm in. A sweaty thirty-minute walk later, I found myself sitting at the bar in a fantastically renovated warehouse in an industrial part of town just south of the convention center. This is a cool space, with a big outdoor patio. I was pumped to see that they specialize in pilsners and lagers because I love breweries that stick to a style, especially my favorite style. I asked the bartender to choose a flight for me and he even gave me a backup in case I didn't like one. Turns out, I didn't like one, Midsommer Summer Pilsner, that had a floral flavor that tasted like my grandmother's bathroom soap smelled (instant flashback to my youth)--Figure my reaction was similar to weirdos who don't like cilantro for similar reasons. Otherwise, Jaws of Damnation, Mother of Gods, Infinite Hotel, Beholder and, my favorite, Kollaps Kolsch were all excellent. In my humble, opinionated opinion, this place represents the "craft" in craft breweries. Highly recommended if you're a light beer snob, like me. read more

Got some good beers from this local brewery in Burnside. It has a pretty cool location in an old warehouse so it fits in with the gentrification. Wayfinder has lots of beers but there's the food too. Has a variety of styles in the beers to choose from. The prices are pretty okay for around here. Big place that's good for big groups. It's known for the elevated outdoor patio. The beers are the main thing. Has quite a few to choose. It's about $7 a pint. Best one we had the last time was The Original. This is a cold IPA that's clean and clear, and it's hoppy but not too much though. A limited amount of food. It's about $9 for fries. There's not a whole lot to recommend to eat it seems. Has many styles of beers. It's located on SE 2nd Avenue at Oak. The patio is a good place for large parties and other things. read more

During a recent trip to Portland, we made our way across the river to enjoy some beer goodness from Wayfinder. The building Wayfinder is housed in was so cool! I loved the big patio and how open the inside space was, which was full of greenery. It was fairly quiet on a Saturday so we were able to enjoy a spot up at the bar. Our bartender was super friendly and helped us sample all 11 beers on draft. I personally loved the Wet Hop Keller Pils and the Laura Palmer Blonde Ale; although all beers were great tasting. They were pretty low on merch, but we were at least able to grab some enamel pins and stickers which was rad. The brewery had large restrooms (separate women's / men's) in back. I loved being able to see the brew tanks while walking from the taproom to the restrooms. Always fun to see the operations of a brewery. A must visit brewery when in PDX! read more

The food was great. The ambiance was OK. The service was terrible. I went for the Burger Week special and was not disappointed. The burger was quite good, as was the egg roll that came with it. I'm not sure I like the two together, but they were each very good. I also ordered a Coke which was delivered flat. More below. I sat outside in the sun on a lovely summer afternoon. The patio was almost empty, yet the music was blaring. I realize not everyone likes the same music and that with a patio full of people, music at a low volume can't be heard. But that was not the case today. Fortunately, I was alone so there was no conversation to be impacted. And to be honest, if I'd really liked the music it might not have been too bad. But! The waiter was terrible. Perhaps the worst I've had in years. I've been sampling the Burger Week specials all over town in places I've never been before and always had great service. Not this time. Let's start at the beginning, when I waited outside at a practically empty place until the waiter came out to tell me sit anywhere. But he wasn't particularly pleasant about it. Then he came to take my order, but I could not hear what he said and when I asked him to repeat what he'd said he was clearly irritated. I placed my order and he went away. He brought out the coke and left before I could sample it to find that it was flat. He came back to deliver the food and dropped the plate on the table -- yes, dropped it. Probably because he was looking at someone else and conversing with them. After the clatter, he immediately left. No words, no eye contact and no opportunity for me to thank him or tell him about the drink. When I was done he came back out with a check-paying device and stared at me. Then he said he had my check. He did not give it to me, however, just turned it so I could sort of see the screen. Again he just stared at me while I was waiting for him to give me the device or ask for a card. When neither happened he very rudely told me needed a card or some form of payment (as if I had never been to a restaurant before). He took my card, then gave the device to me for tip and signing. I gave him no tip. He brusquely took my plate away and perfunctorily said something about thanks for coming. At no point did he give me his name, smile or express any appreciation for me being there. He did not come back to see if everything was OK. He did not ask if I wanted a receipt. He did not treat me with even a basic level of respect that I am used to getting at just about every establishment I patronize. I don't need the server to fawn over me, but acting as I'm keeping him from something else isn't so good, either. Especially as it was not busy in the least. So while the food was good, the experience, you should pardon the expression, left a bad taste in my mouth and made me feel irritated and angry instead pleased. Not sure I'll be back. read more

We had booked Knot Springs and wanted a small snack before so we headed to Wayfinder Beer just a block away. I'm impressed by the size - it's a lot bigger than it looks from the outside, loved the exposed brick and industrial interior. I definitely want to come back during the summer as the outdoor seating looked amazing. It was covered in snow tonight! We ordered the pretzel with cheese and mustard and the Banh mi fries. The pretzel was piping hot and while it was a little unevenly shaped, it was steamy, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The mustard and cheese dipping sauces were on point. The fries had a yummy caramelized cauliflower (please put more of this on the dish it was so good), fresh cucumber and carrot, and a flavorful cream sauce. definitely in the upper echelon of breweries in Portland. I have it just above Deschutes and in the company of 10 Barrel Brewing and Breakside. Normally im not a lager guy either but their Helles Lagerbier was really great and lives up to its GABF Medal. They make a great summer shandy out of it too. Also, there IPAs here are really great and live up to the West Coast IPA scene. the Spellbound IPA was really good and their original ipa and Earth's Eris were pretty good too read more

I hit up Wayfinder a few times a year, usually biking in - though this time I noticed they've added the huge parking lot across the street as Wayfinder parking. I'm always happy with their service, with the atmosphere, and of course delighted with their beers. I *love* an IPA, don't get me wrong, but this place does the best European-adjacent lighter styles (lagers, pilsners, the occasional kolsch) I've encountered on the West Coast (or East Coast, ever since that one amazing place in Baltimore shut down when the owner ran off to be full-time Belgian rather than part-time). Wayfinder's Hell is reliably one of the best beers I have ever had. They also work a lot in the darker and maltier European styles, but I can't speak to that, having never been much of a dunkel/rauchbier/marzen type. The food menu is small in item count but mighty in delivery. I get the general feeling that they try to do the things they do very well rather than trying to be everything for all people. If you're looking for the latter, McMenamins is available and doing a very serviceable job at being ok at most things. No hate to McMenamins. But Wayfinder is a destination spot for greatness, and a place I can confidently take out of town visitors to. read more

I come to Wayfinder every time I visit Portland from Los Angeles, and it's easy to see why - Wayfinder is a great combination of delicious food and craft beer in Portland, and I strongly recommend you dine here for their top notch quality and service. They have plenty of both indoor and outdoor seating, both of which are great atmospheres for hanging out while enjoying a beer and/or meal. I strongly recommend the Double Burger ($16) with doubles of Creekstone Farms Chuck & Ribeye burger patties, along with lettuce, onion, pickle, and their "Not So Secret Sauce." It comes with cheese but if you're lactose intolerant they can remove that cheese for you and it will still be delicious. While you can get a single patty version, I recommend getting the double patty with their side salad. Although the side salad is simple, it's fresh, refreshing, and also scrumptious. They also have the best gluten free buns I've ever tried, and it really made my burger experience much more enjoyable and delicious. As you can see in the picture, I was in burger heaven after the first bite. Rob was our server and he is is extremely personable and hilarious. I hope that he is my server every time I come back because his customer service and hospitality were top notch. He went above and beyond and even found out that their gluten free buns are by Udi's when I had questions about them, and he was also very knowledgeable about their existing menu. read more

These guys make some of the best beer I've ever had. Every single one I've tried has been magic. If you want someone to punch you in the face with flavor (I know I do.), this is it. I originally found out about this place from a company that delivers beer to my area in Seattle. I received the Older Gods and I knew I had to come try other things. So when I found myself in Portland, there was one spot I demanded to make an appearance. Everything about this place is just super neat to look at, comfortable, and enjoyable. The people were super nice. The art is amazing. The booth was super comfy. The beer is magnificent. The rum old-fashioned was awesome. I'd had the smoked bock at Podnah's the night before coming here. I got a four-pack to go. I also got the Export 66, the Time-Spiral Dunkel, and the Marzen to go. I drank a Marzen and a Rauchbier on site. I wish I could've stayed longer. I hope they open a spot or plan on delivering to Seattle. I guess I have to plan more trips to Portland more often. If you do order it, this unfulfilling sandwich comes with 4 pcs of cauliflower drenched in a sticky sweet sauce that makes you feel like this snack is actually a dessert. The salad is also unfortunately drenched with a sugary dressing. The jalapenos are sparse and lack spice. Wayfinder Beer has, hands down, the best space of any brewery in town. A big, beautiful wood deck for outside seating, and a solid brick and industrial chic interior. The staff are incredibly attentive, helpful, and downright chummy. It is, all in all, a great place to hang out, and I've scheduled a handful of meetings there because of it. The beer is very good, just not my favorite cup of tea. Lagers aren't interesting to me, and that's their focus. The Cold IPA is solid, I just prefer ales. The token IPA on the menu has the same crisp cleanliness that the lagers do. When the have a dark beer on the menu I'll usually get that, but last time I was there there wasn't a dark beer at all. Food is a cut above your greasy pub fare, but not unique or unusual. I feel like I'm getting too negative though and giving the wrong impression - Wayfinder Beer rocks! Great place! read more

I've been to Wayfinder a few times and the patio is great in spring/summer. It's definitely not the best neighborhood but you'd never know it's a weird area while you're in the patio area or inside. My most recent visit was kind of annoying. My finance and I had a beer and fries. We got a TINY cup of ranch and then later had to flag someone down to get more ranch and ketchup. I was annoyed to find a $1 charge per ranch on the bill. I understand if it's house made and you want to charge for it, but that should be on the menu or you should say something when we order. It's just annoying to pay for a tiny amount of ranch. That being said, I do love their fries. read more

The chicken was a big chicken breast that was breaded and crispy. It is the same chicken they use for their chicken schnitzel sandwich. It wasn't frozen chicken tenders out of a bag. The double cheeseburger was loaded with ingredients and flavor. The meat was juicy and cooked perfectly. The french fries are steak fries that are thick and not soggy. We loved the fries! This brewery "pioneered" a "new" style of beer: "Cold IPA". Why all the quotes? Because a Cold IPA is an IPL, an India Pale Lager. It's an IPA made with lager yeast, instead of ale yeast. Wayfinder says theirs is different because it's fermented way warmer than lagers (you sure about that? Warmer than a steam beer?)...but at the end of the day, it is literally NOT an ALE. So, the "A" in "Cold IPA" doesn't make any sense. IPLs are new, but not that new. Basecamp Brewing was making them back in the early 2010's. My cynical take is that "IPA" has become more of a brand that you use to sell beer to beardos like myself than anything else, and seems to have completely lost any meaning. It now seems to mean "the hopping process was expensive for this beer", if it means anything at all. Why am I opening up this review with all this boring beer nerdery? A few reasons: 1) It's my review. 2) IPLs are my favorite beers to homebrew. 3) It's Wayfinder's Cold IPA that originally brought them to my attention. (so I guess, as a marketing vehicle, it worked!) Now (FINALLY) on to the review. This place is a lot more traditional than I was expecting. If the building were a book, it would be an stylish leather-bound tome of ancient magics. In fact, Dr Strange would fee right at home in a structure like this. The beers too, are more traditional than I was expecting. There are lots of more traditional-ish German lagers. I say "-ish" because many of them have subtle and delightful modern touches to them. We went in the middle of a COVID wave and I also really appreciated how seriously they took it.
