I cannot say enough about the quality of the food and friendly service. As our-of-state visitors, we encountered Thunder Island on our first full day in the region. We loved the food so much we book-ended our trip with a final supper this evening. Covid protocols are followed. Staff is friendly, timely and chill. The place has a very welcoming vibe. There are outdoor options, with heating and great panoramic views of the Gorge and the Bridge of the Gods. The food is superb. As a former vegan, I was impressed with their variety of menu options. That being said, I had the Kimchi rueben. It is, hands down, the best rueben I've ever had. Paired the sandwich with some amazing fried abs a homemade side of dill/ranch dressing (wow!). Outside seating is available, with heaters, - and is very pet friendly. Ordering is sustainable - use the QR reader in your phone, which will take you to a webpage where you can conveniently order. Saving you time, and the restaurant resources (and exposure). As a retired drinker, I did not imbibe. However, it appeared that they offered a nice drink selection. Went for the Arleta Library popup brunch and highly recommend! My fiancé and I split the biscuits and sausage gravy and the Portlander omelet. The biscuits and gravy were amazing and I didn't want to give up the other half! We usually try to stay on the lighter side but it was so worth it. Best french fries I have ever eaten - and I have eaten a few! My husband and I had a late lunch here. There was a wait to sit outside, so we sat in the upper dining room, which was almost as open as being outside, with large windows and garage-type doors open for air. We are both vegetarians and there were plenty of options. We also had a beer flight and ended up taking a six-pack with us. Had the cauliflower buffalo wings and they were delicious and quite spicy. We each had the veggie burger and the only mistake I made was not getting the french fries, so I had to steal many from my husband. Seriously, they were incredible. I don't know what they did or how they did it, but they were so crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Wonderful potato taste with just sea salt to dress them. No overpowering flavorings to cover up the great taste of potatoes. If you go there, order them. Veggie burgers were delicious, well-cooked and well-dressed on a pretzel bun. Nice menu. Our waitress was friendly and efficient, the view to the north was fantastic. They are very dog friendly, vegetarian and began friendly. There is an elevator to the second floor if you need it. They also have outside seating to the north of the main restaurant, but not sure what food you can get there. Our beer flight was very good, and you can choose from four to eight beers. Eh....why have a beautiful bar top then tell all the customers not to stand around it? Employees so worried about getting by to get to their tables they are afraid of getting by. Scolded by the bartender when a big group walked in then again by a server walking by with plates when there was plenty of room. No chairs so can't be that crowded around the bar. Keep pushing us all away and see how it goes. Great place, poorly run. Quit listening to to whiny employees and own it. read more

I came here on a trip to Portland two weeks ago with my partner and I and honestly this place is such a hidden gem. The service was amazing. Our server kept checking in on us and ensured we were having a great time. The beers were also fantastic. As for the entrees we ordered, everything we ordered tasted absolutely delicious. We were both appalled by how impressed we were with everything about this place. I definitely want to come back if I ever visit Oregon again someday. read more

The view here cannot be beat!!! So cool to enjoy a beer on the banks of the river. They are moving locations soon, and my experience would have been very different without the same view. The beers are solid, Remember the Forest was our favorite. We are from Los Angeles and we were highly disappointed in the chips...the menu mentioned Juanita's chips made in Hood River, but the chips were a corn tortilla equivalent of Tostitos. The service was very good, dining area very clean and the food was delicious. My husband had a deluxe burger with fries he said his burger was a bit dry but good. I have a pork schnitzel, it was huge and very good. Seasoned and cooked very well. The fixings on the sandwich complimented the meet very well. I had the best beet ever, it had drops of juniper. It was smooth, not bitter, flavorful, and the color was beautiful. Thus beer is limited, too bad. The overall experience was very good and we would recommend. Food was fine. The main reason to stop here is the view. Make sure you reserve a spot outside ahead of time otherwise it's hardly worth it. When we came it was an hour wait on a Saturday at 3pm. Also, the service was hit/miss. Not trying to play the race card, but the hostess name Rachel had personally went and collected anyone whose table was ready. We stopped here on our way to Hood River and could not have been happier! It probably helped that it was a perfect day to sit outside, so we did, and we had the most amazing view of the Columbia River and Cascade Locks. The food is good. Not great but nothing to complain about (except maybe that my meatball sub was lukewarm at best?) We also got a flight of beers and ciders, and each one was tastier than the next. I'm not sure about inside, but the outside seating is pet-friendly, which was an added bonus for me. Went here on a Sunday afternoon to enjoy a bite to eat. Waited close to an hour to get a table and about 30 minutes after that to get our food, despite there being SEVERAL empty tables. Service is clearly a cluster. Staff, for the most part, were friendly but didn't check in on us at all or ask if we needed anything. The views were nice and the space was modern and tasteful. I ordered the deluxe burger and it was decent. It lacked flavor and had a little too much of their sauce, but was overall good. The meat was cooked well and tasted fresh. The fries were good. Had to pay .50 cents extra for ranch which I always find to be silly since I'm already paying $18 for a burger. The food is good but not worth more than a 30 minute wait. Would return again but only during a less busy time. read more

This is a great brewery and the location of the place is fantastic! Steve and I had tried some of their beers. The Easy Climb Golden Ale and the Fuzzy Wit were some and they were very good. But as I said already the true charm to this place at least in my mind is the location. It is a bit odd in a way because it seems to be in a campground type area but at the same time why not? It is Oregon and the Pacific Northwest so let's have at it and mingle with the environment. It is also right by the Columbia River which makes your dining or drinking experience even more memorable and scenic. They also serve food and we split a Hummus Plate which was very enjoyable. The pitas, artichokes and feta cheese really added a great "pop" to this appetizer plate. I really recommend this brewery and if you are touring the Columbia Gorge and plan on hitting some breweries along the way and are on the Oregon side be sure and stop here. We visited this restaurant for dinner. Both of us ordered the rice bowls. My hubby had the salmon rice bowl while I had mine with chicken. Both were very good, as were our beers. There was ample seating both inside and outside on the deck with nice river views. Apparently reservations are a good idea as it gets closer to the dinner hours. We were on the early side around 4:30-5pm & slipped in without needing any reservations on a Saturday. It is a family friendly restaurant. Our server was super friendly and efficient. We had a very pleasant dinner! Our portions were perfect without having to feel stuffed. However, had we ordered a burger, the portions we observed, looked like more food than we could have eaten. The utensils were real metal forks, spoons, knives, and the plates & glasses were not disposable either. The water glass was metal, and my beer was in glass . Leftovers were boxed in whst looked like cardboard boxes not plastic or styrofoam containers. The decor is industrial and is just a short walk from the motel we were staying in. The food fell short of anything impressive thus the lower star rating - we had the portobello sandwich and nachos with chicken; it was suitable enough for us hungry hikers. The brewskis, however, I thoroughly enjoyed (and note they are a brewing company). They brew multiple beers in-house for some fantastic options with silly names (such as wheaty mcwheat face). We tried a flight of 4 and were pleasantly surprised. The outdoor seating also permits a wonderful view of the Columbia River Gorge. Mediocre food but worthy for the beer and view! read more

Thunder Island is now going to be a common stop on my travels east. The food was way above my expectations and the beer was pretty good as well. We were there on a snow day, so we weren't able to enjoy the patio with our dog as we wanted, but we got a table inside and enjoyed a pint and some lunch. I had this chicken pot pie which was served in a sourdough bread bowl, it was awesome. I would make a day trip just for that menu item. The decor was pretty cool. They have all sorts of well made swag to buy if you're into that sort of thing. I'm guilty of overspending on first visits so I didn't indulge this stop in. We will certainly be back when the weather comes up a bit and is a little more spring like. They have a great location that comes with a view of the mighty Columbia River. A packaged pastrami meat "reuben" on soggy over buttered bread, and a flat out average burger. We were offered a free ice cream for the wait, but for a pocket ticket or food left dying at the window, more should have been offered. Pass. I'd give it a 1, but the facility was nice and the drinks were good. read more

After a visit to Multnomah falls, we stopped in Cascade Locks to visit the Thunder Island Brewing Company. What a cute brewery and a spectacular setup they have by the water. Tried a flight of their most popular beers which included the Oregon Pony and Kingdom Schtout (both dark beers). Their food menu includes a great selection of food such as the Salmon rice bowl and my favorite, the buffalo chicken wrap (highly recommend) with the house-made coleslaw. If the weather was warmer, would have opted for the outdoor seating, but sat inside instead which was just as nice. If you're in the Cascade Locks area, stop by Thunder Island for some really good food and craft brews. read more

One of the worst burgers I've had. It's hard to make a very bad burger. Tasted fake and way under cooked. Had a weird texture when chewing. Freezing out side dining due to Covid-19, no heaters. Came to Thunder Island for the first time on a beautiful Saturday! First time driving over the Bridge of the Gods since we moved out to WA. $4 total over and back heads up! The brewery is tucked behind what looks like a little campsite on the water! Not a whole lot of parking directly out front. The building almost looks as though you are in the wrong place. I love being able to sit by the water with a beautiful view and enjoy the beer! We did the 8 beer flight to be able to sample all the flavors ( minus the Porter - not our thing ) all in all nothing stood out in the slightest. The Saison Du Melon was our favorite but all in all just so so - nothing to be depressed about, nothing to rave or recommend. The food ( BLT sandwich with potato salad ) was real fantastic! Service was so so on friendliness. With all he beer and wine in the area probably won't return! read more

It is an excellent spot for lunch, beers after exploring the area - plenty of hiking trails in the area to explore. It also offers a great ambiance (kids and dogs friendly) with very welcoming staff and customer service. The contactless ordering app is very efficient and simple to navigate. I've been to this super chill place now twice! I'm giving 5 stars bcuz that's how much I enjoy this place, the view alone is more than 5 stars! Their beer selection is great and tastes damn good!! Favs are Galaxy pale ale and Bavarian Hefeweizen along with their dry creek IPA! All GREAT! Their food is also good, I always go for the nachos with pulled pork! God damn it's soooooo delish!!! I've been there twice and will keep going back The outdoor sitting with the River view is priceless! It's so calming and peaceful, nothing beats it.
