What a gem of a bakery. Was recommended via a friend and am very happy i made a visit. Located in the 'warehouse' district of Lenexa, this specialized retail is your one-stop bakery if you are looking for Keto, Diabetic, Sugar Free or Low Carb friendly goodies. Jabin and Natalie are a very personable, knowledgeable and down-to-earth couple. If you get a chance to meet their son Perry, he is a very well mannered young man. I bought a few items (everything bagels, chocolate chip cookies, sweet nut mix). All of these items were very good and i am hooked on their sweet nut mix. I now have a favorite bakery and will definitely revisit this small business. Menu: www.threebearsbakerybbq.com

What differentiates them from most BBQ in KC and alot of BBQ nationwide is their really sandwich focused. While they bake their cornbread daily their rolls are not house made, but when the best burgers are served on Martin's potato rolls that shouldn't matter. What matters is the meats. I don't like how they have a Carolina style sandwich. KC BBQ should be good enough to stand on it's own and not need other regions to lean on or prop themselves up. Texas toast, Carolina should be whole hog and chopped. I mainly come for the sandwichs and ribs as I prefer Texas Brisket and Turkey and a sourthern style smoked ham. First off, look for the green colored gas station and the line out the door. It's casual trying to hide it's a little fancier than it should be. Unlike most BBQ their sides aren't anything to rave about, but they are large. I like their dirty rice the most. Their regular hog heaven and a Z Man give you the jist of the sandwiches, large, meaty, smokey, but too sweet for my tastes. I like their rib rinner half slab from the meatier short end. Burnt ends are available most of the time, but not always. Decor has character, service is fast and friendly, very common you'll find entertaining conversation with patrons in line with you. Prices are excellent. Portions are excellent. I like the tenderness of their brisket, but find they don't wrap during the stall with foil and i'm more of a butcher paper and tallow guy myself. Burnt ends are tacky and sweet, too sweet and you lose beef flavor. Their sausages are dense and have snap and chew, held a little too hot and render a bit much in waiting. I know I may be nitpicking, but I used to compete in BBQ and feel that what they are doing in Texas is really pushing the envelope and while I appreciate what the Stehney's are doing here, as it's one of the best in KC, I don't think of Joe's as the destinational place it once was.

The brisket is really good, I didn't have a chance with ribs(pictures look fantastic) or burnt ends to give a more full review. The room to grow is the smoke. Brisket was unwrapped near our table and was dripping juices - spice rub and doneness was right on. The meat was so tender and flavorful that I didn't really need P&F's BBQ Sauce- which was also very good and a bit different from traditional KC style sauce. Pork Burnt ends aren't my favorite but these were tasty, very well spiced and were complimented well by the P&F sauce. While I thought the brisket was the star of the show, the smoked and fried chicken wings were a close second to the brisket and seemed very popular with the crowd at Discourse. When chicken is smoked well, it carries the smoky taste throughout tender and juicy meat and these were smoked well. Can't forget Discourse Brewing, I tried their Used 8 track Dortmunder Lager. I like German style lagers and pilsners and this choice well complimented P&Fs BBQ. Before finishing for the evening I had a Platinum Label "I'm a Dinosaur" Helles - it was light and not too hoppy. I'd have both again. Wednesday is Trivia Night at Discourse and while I didn't stay for it, the place was packed an hour before trivia started. All in all a great evening. If you like BBQ, Beer or trivia or want to hit a trifecta - try Discourse Brewing on a Wednesday night!

Their menu consists of a lot of dishes, and some are quite unique .. you don't usually see items like bird's nest dishes at most Chinese restaurants around here except for maybe Bolings. Me and my husband visited on a Saturday night around 8 pm and really devoured our meal. The menu can feel a bit overwhelming at first, but you honestly can't go wrong with stir fries at any Chinese restaurant. For appetizers, we ordered chicken egg rolls, which were hefty and filling. For the main course, I ordered the chicken in black bean stir fry, and my husband got the shrimp Kung Pao chicken stir fry. We paired both with steamed rice. The black bean chicken was rich and earthy, with that deep, slightly funky flavor from the fermented black beans. It was very umami, salty and complimented nicely with the fresh, crisp vegetables and well-cooked chicken. I really liked it. The shrimp Kung Pao was spicy and tangy, with perfectly cooked shrimp (the fried shrimp covering was chefs kiss) and crispy veggies. Overall, we really enjoyed the food. The egg rolls were about $4 for two pieces, and the stir fries were around $17+ each. The portions are quite large compared to other places in the area, so the pricing seemed reasonable. For 2 main course dishes your bill could easily reach up to $40. Otherwise, The restaurant was clean, the staff was kind, and service was quick. It also wasn't too crowded when we visited. I would rate the service 4/5, mainly because we had to ask for silverware, condiments, and tissues separately. The food, though, is definitely a 5/5. Highly recommended! I will definitely return to have more dishes like beef chow fun, the soups and last, but not least BIRDS NEST!!
