    Burnt ends

Everyone...You cannot find better burnt ends on this side of town!!! These guys are knocking it out of the park! The one thing that makes a BBQ joint good is uniqueness and consistency. Sierra BBQ has been consistent in multiple occasions with their burnt ends. These guys have been here about 5 months and I love coming by to support. I am not wasting money coming here and hope they continue! Really incredible BBQ.

Food - pretty good mostly Service - simple order/pickup at counter or they deliver to table Ambiance - typical bbq restaurant with a smaller then most number of tables. 1st time here on 1/14/2025, and a big fan of Sierra Grill. 3 short ribs w sausage and 2 sides (beans and sausage. Ribs have a more-than-average crust but are nice and smoky, and one literally had meat falling off the bone. Sausage is tasty with either kc bbq sauce, or spicy sauce, they also have a mustard based North Carolina sauce. Beans - tasty with a bit of a kick. Cheesy corn - ok but once it gets cold it loses it's flavor This is good bbq but IMHO they could work of their presentation. Thin cardboard for the sides, I personally thought the sausage was a little under cooked. Just my so-called opinion, you ought to try this place for sure IF you're in the area.

Three Sauces (Sweet, Spicy and Carolina Style)

I liked the tasty BBQ, the menu flexibility and the fairly reasonable prices during my dine-in lunch visit. The brisket plate ($16.99) was ready just a few minutes after I ordered at the counter, where the service was professional and helpful. The plate included just a fair portion of thinly sliced meat, my choice of two sides and pickles. Toast was also to be provided according to the menu, but it was not. I did not notice the error in time to point it out, so I'll chalk it up to an opening day mishap. The brisket was smoky and lean, while the generous amount of beans was thick with small portions of meat and the generous amount of slaw was creamy, cool and crunchy. Three sauces were available - sweet, spicy and Carolina-style. I like that they offered one, two and three meat plates with two sides. Many competitors offer one and two meat plates with only one side - a rather unbalanced meal. I found the dining area to be clean and fairly new with background music. They offer a loyalty program, but lunch specials would also be nice. Overall, very good!

With Sierra BBQ being on the other side of the metro and not open on weekends (what's that all about), I took advantage of a vacation day from work to travel to the former "Spinach Capital of the World" - Lenexa, KS to check out one of KC's newest BBQ joints. I arrived at 2:30pm on a Thursday and was the only customer there. Ordering is done at the counter and your food is brought to you. Full visibility into the kitchen / prep area assured me that the small wait that I had wasn't due to laziness. I ordered the Burnt Ends plate with two meats and two sides for about $23 and added a $4 rib bone. I chose sausage and brisket as my meats and bbq beans and slaw as my sides. The small mountain of meat was an impressive sight - and as it should be for spending $30. The only real negative was the rib - pretty tough and very bland in taste. The three other meats were very solid choices with the burnt ends being the standout and the sausage a close second place. Slaw was very average and the beans had a touch too much of a liquid smoke flavor, but the taste grew on me and by the end of the bowl, I wished that I had another. A solid four stars, which is nothing to be ashamed of here in the BBQ Capital of the World, but doesn't quite make the top tier. If they ever decide to open on weekends, I would likely visit again and explore further.

Brisket plater with 2 sides. Sides: slaw and beans

My husband and I decided to try this place for lunch. Parking is mainly in the back at this small location. Very helpful and nice staff. Prices are reasonable. They have both KC and Carolina BBQ sauce available. They have good menu choices. But don't expect fried side options. Their slaw is good and pairs great with their meats. The baked beans were a little too sweet, but I added the Carolina sauce to them and they balanced out. Portions are decent and filling. I had the Brisket plater which came with 2 sides. My husband had the burnt ends and one meat plater that also came with 2 sides. Our only complaint would be the meat need a little longer smoke. But thats our preference. We will be eating here again.

Just checked out this new bbq joint. If you went to Sierra Grill at this location, you know what to expect as far as ambiance. The smoky smells are stronger (my boyfriend commented on my hair smelling like bbq afterwards) and you order at the counter now but no real change beyond that. Service was relatively prompt. When food was ready, I was pretty happy with the flavors and I LOVED the potato salad. Sauce options were good too. I would say the meat could have been a bit warmer, some of the juiciness was lacking because the temperature was closer to room than to hot off the smoker. Small tweaks would make the food excellent. They are brand new so definitely understandable. At this point, I don't know that I would go back, but it's like 15 mins from me (and I live between Joes, Q39, and Jack Stack all within 10 mins of me, so take that as you will) but I think if I lived nearby, it'd be a welcome addition to the neighborhood and I'd probably put it in rotation.

The brisket is really good, I didn't have a chance with ribs(pictures look fantastic) or burnt ends to give a more full review. The room to grow is the smoke. Brisket was unwrapped near our table and was dripping juices - spice rub and doneness was right on. The meat was so tender and flavorful that I didn't really need P&F's BBQ Sauce- which was also very good and a bit different from traditional KC style sauce. Pork Burnt ends aren't my favorite but these were tasty, very well spiced and were complimented well by the P&F sauce. While I thought the brisket was the star of the show, the smoked and fried chicken wings were a close second to the brisket and seemed very popular with the crowd at Discourse. When chicken is smoked well, it carries the smoky taste throughout tender and juicy meat and these were smoked well. Can't forget Discourse Brewing, I tried their Used 8 track Dortmunder Lager. I like German style lagers and pilsners and this choice well complimented P&Fs BBQ. Before finishing for the evening I had a Platinum Label "I'm a Dinosaur" Helles - it was light and not too hoppy. I'd have both again. Wednesday is Trivia Night at Discourse and while I didn't stay for it, the place was packed an hour before trivia started. All in all a great evening. If you like BBQ, Beer or trivia or want to hit a trifecta - try Discourse Brewing on a Wednesday night!

Their menu consists of a lot of dishes, and some are quite unique .. you don't usually see items like bird's nest dishes at most Chinese restaurants around here except for maybe Bolings. Me and my husband visited on a Saturday night around 8 pm and really devoured our meal. The menu can feel a bit overwhelming at first, but you honestly can't go wrong with stir fries at any Chinese restaurant. For appetizers, we ordered chicken egg rolls, which were hefty and filling. For the main course, I ordered the chicken in black bean stir fry, and my husband got the shrimp Kung Pao chicken stir fry. We paired both with steamed rice. The black bean chicken was rich and earthy, with that deep, slightly funky flavor from the fermented black beans. It was very umami, salty and complimented nicely with the fresh, crisp vegetables and well-cooked chicken. I really liked it. The shrimp Kung Pao was spicy and tangy, with perfectly cooked shrimp (the fried shrimp covering was chefs kiss) and crispy veggies. Overall, we really enjoyed the food. The egg rolls were about $4 for two pieces, and the stir fries were around $17+ each. The portions are quite large compared to other places in the area, so the pricing seemed reasonable. For 2 main course dishes your bill could easily reach up to $40. Otherwise, The restaurant was clean, the staff was kind, and service was quick. It also wasn't too crowded when we visited. I would rate the service 4/5, mainly because we had to ask for silverware, condiments, and tissues separately. The food, though, is definitely a 5/5. Highly recommended! I will definitely return to have more dishes like beef chow fun, the soups and last, but not least BIRDS NEST!!
