My $15 Lunch - Cuban Sandwich, Chips & awesome pickles!
Denise Y.

These guys were out from 11:30 to 1:30 at our office complex. While I wasn't hungry at 11:30 I joined some of my office mates to check them out. There was a good crowd at 11:30 and the Nachos were flying out the window. I went back at 1p to get a Cuban and was in luck they still had food. My boss had gotten this for his lunch at 11:30 and told me he ate it all when he normally eats only half a sandwich. His was recommendation was good for me to get my own. I agreed with him that half was not enough. I enjoyed getting to know the owners and their journey to being good truck owners. It's good to know they post on Facebook & Instagram where they'll be located. I don't normally spend $15 on a lunch and I know prices are going up so my review is a conservative 4*.

First stop into KC was the Point and Flat popped up in Discourse Brewing. Set up in the back serving up amazing brisket, pork belly, sausage, and pulled pork. The brisket was amazingly moist and each bite gushed through my mouth. The bark was on the saltier side BUT the fattiness balanced it out. Along with this corn!!!! The side of street corn was the perfect transition dish. The perfect amount of onion and jalapeño as well. Where I got a little kick between bites of the sweet corn that mellows it out. I could literally eat this all day. Especially with the pork belly. Topped with a sweet bbq sauce it goes into your mouth solid but dissolves into your mouth when you take a bite. A great first stop in the KC part of my work trip.

Amazing burnt ends. I wish I could've had more but he was sold out and I got the last. I will be returning and I will say it is amazing BBQ with no complaints but except I wanted more!

Let's add a food truck to Kansas City's best barbecue argument. A rotating menu of perfectly smoked meats and super sides in Kansas City-sized portions will make your eyes smile and your stomach fall in love. The truck moves around, but it's usually in the Shawnee area, so look for them on social media. They're worth the drive.

Definitely my favorite KC BBQ. They serve out of (or outside of) Servaes, Discourse, and Friction breweries. The meat truly nearly melts in your mouth and I'm always wanting to go back for more. I believe brisket is their specialty and I've had amazing pastrami brisket from them as well. Also highly recommend their brisket beans. Couldn't be nicer and you can tell he has a passion for this. One of my current missions is to spread the word about this KC gem! I heard one of the local bartenders agree it's the "best brisket in Kansas City."

whatever voodoo magic is happening at point and flat bbq, we're here for it on the menu: full slab of ribs texas brisket brisket totchos potato salad elote corn our thoughts: ahhhhhmazing is an understatement we loved the flavor & tenderness of the ribs and brisket, even our non-bbq fan eaters raved about how good it was. obsessed with the potato salad, more of a mashed potato texture versus the creamy, sauce based version our tip: make sure and follow them on insta or fb so you stay up to date on their pop up locations and menus kiddo menu available: nope

I have tried most of the jalepeno cheddar sausages at Kansas City bbq locations and this is definitely one of the best!

Chips and queso were pretty good. I like that they lightly seasoned the chips. I was expecting the pork and chicken to have a big punch of flavor but it was really lacking. I liked the flour tortilla shells that were used but it would have been better if they had warmed the tortillas first. They do provide a generous serving of meat, but I would have liked more toppings on the tacos. Service was ok. They were able to move through the orders fairly quickly. If anyone is a germaphobe, I wouldn't recommend eating here. I saw he used the same gloves to grab your order card, stick it up near the window, prepare the chips and grab the tortillas. It wasn't that big of a deal but just a heads up if something like that were to bother you.

I got the Dr Pepper burger & an NA grapefruit IPA. The burger was very yummy, as were the fries that came with it. There was a casual sauce for the fries and I loved it. The beer was good, but not amazing. It wasn't made by Red Crow though, it was a can. I know Red Crow makes some top notch beers from visiting them previously, though. I just didn't want alcohol because I went in with a headache & it would have made it worse. Red Crow's ambiance was great, though. It's cute & quirky and very relaxed. Everyone in there seemed happy (staff included). I'll make my way back again in the fall if they have their chai stout back.

Order: Mixed plate for lunch (about 20 minutes). Comes with two charbroiled chicken pieces, half order of grilled steak, rice, tortillas, grilled peppers and onions, salsas, and a cup of charro beans. Chicken: Juicy, smoky, seasoned so well it could compete with tandoori chicken--rare to find that level of flavor. Steak: Tender, flavorful, nicely grilled. Charro beans: Soupy, shockingly good, and well seasoned. Rice: Basic, plain, no real seasoning. Warm tortillas are a nice plus. Peppers & onions: Good flavor, but could be cut thinner and grilled longer. Lime: Small but perfect touch to brighten the meat and beans--attention to detail you rarely see in a food truck. Wish list: Bigger salsa cups without the extra charge, julienned peppers and onions, grilled longer for more flavor and easier eating. The vibe: This is a hidden gem--when Hispanic families and construction crews are making the trip just for this truck, you know it's solid. Gas station itself isn't busy, but the food truck draws a steady lunch crowd. A couple of benches outside, some eat in their cars, lots of carryout. Bottom line: Flavorful meats, generous portions, and thoughtful touches make this a standout. Easily one of the best food truck finds in KC.
