I'm no stranger to Jack Stack and I frequent it often but I hadn't been to this location. It's very nice and clean. They have a separate carry out section and plenty of parking. The bar area looked very nice. We were tucked away in a large separate room that I think is used for groups but they had lots of seating throughout. The service was excellent. There were about 15 of us and both servers were efficient, friendly, and professional. Glasses were refilled, questions answered patiently, accurate food orders, and plenty of boxes, containers, and bags for leftovers. Five stars all the way. The food at Jack stack is always excellent. They are very consistent across locations and you always know what you're getting. I stick to the same thing-the Hatfield sandwich with brisket and sausage. It's a half pound of two meats on a hoagie. The brisket is always a solid choice and I really like how they slice the sausage, thin, not chunky. It comes with fries but I swap those out for two smaller sides-cheesy corn and bbq beans. I very much dislike bbq beans but I love Jack stacks. They are about the only ones I will eat and I judge everyone else's against. The bbq beans here are a must. The cheesy corn is my second favorite. It's cheesy and Smokey. Others try to copy but this is the OG. Another must for me. We also had orders of fried mushrooms and onion rings for the table. The mushrooms are excellent with the horseradish. Everything everyone ordered looked delicious. The pork chop is making me consider going off script the next time I visit. But honestly, I don't think you can go wrong with anything here.

Eating here put a huge smile on my face!…read more First of all, when you walk in, the decor is cute and welcoming, and so was the lady running the front. My friend and I ordered every type of lumpia they had to start and kare kare and sisig silog for mains. The lumpias were all good but the vegetable one was our favorite. Next, the mains came out and I was impressed with the portion! My dish, sisig silog was just $14 and was a massive full plate of meat and garlic rice with a nicely done fried egg. The kare kare was $16 but they gave 3 substantial oxtails which is generous. Honestly this food was so good. After many KC restaurant visits of mediocre or disappointing food, I could have cried tears of joy. The meat was perfectly seasoned, a nice balance of savory, acidity, and aromatics, and not too fatty or salty with some nice crisp/crunch from the pork belly skin. The garlic rice was perfect, not too oily or salty with good garlic flavor and complementary to the meat. Fried egg was crispy with runny yolk, the way it should be. The pineapple was a nice treat too, it was somehow so sweet? I tried my friend's kare kare and while I'm not a big fan of the dish itself, this is the best one I've had! And the oxtail itself was delicious - soft, moist, and flavorful. The only downside I can think of is that you might have to wait a while when it's busy since this is only run by a small family. Maybe try to be one of the first parties in the door. Go support them! Great food and great value. I certainly will be back whenever I can.

Gates in Leawood, I'm gonna miss you!…read more I have been going to Gates in Leawood for over 20 years. Unfortunately, all things that were once great, sometimes come to an end. The portions have reduced in size, the staffing yesterday was one person behind the counter, the famous lunch line moved very slow. One gentleman was doing all the food prep in the back and the double-decker sandwich was decidedly smaller than the days of old. The clincher was the "added" $7 50 tip. I did not add a tip as mine was a to-go order. The same thing happened yo the guy next in line. He had plenty to say about it. I left so I an not sure it did him any good. I bid you well Gates. I will just stick with my favorite.....Jack Stack!!!

PLEASE STOP!!!!!! I have been a pretty regular customer of all of the locations of Gates and sons…read moreBBQ for nearly 40 years. The quality of food is at worse, very good, and often exceptional. However....... i'm taking the time to post this review about one of my favorite barbecue restaurants and one that I often refer to out of town guests, because it is painfully obvious that this restaurant needs to change its policy about placing orders. It is not acceptable to be shouted at by employees of a restaurant. "Hi, MAY I HELP YOU?!" Not once or twice, but often three or four times from different staff members. And often, just as you step inside the door!!! It's not catchy, it's not funny, and it's not helpful. It concerns me that this legendary Kansas City standard for barbecue will not be around in another few years because there is a visible dislike for being shouted at at a restaurant for your food order. Jack stacks, Q39, Joes, and other newer barbecue restaurants are getting the customers that otherwise would've previously stopped at Gates and sons, knowing that they're not going to be a part of some cattle call. Seriously Gates, STOP with this inane custom!!!!!! ANNOYING AF!!!!!!
