Stopped by Dunn Deal today for the first time. I had their lunch special of 1 meat (brisket) and two sides (fries and coleslaw). My brother had pulled pork, fries and beans. If you are a fan of thick slices of super tender brisket with such good flavor that sauce isn't necessary - this is your place. I was very impressed with the brisket. The pulled pork, also before BBQ Sauce, was rich and very full of smoky flavor. Sides were very good too. We added a beef sausage link that had a well balanced flavor and just the right amount of seasoning for my taste. They also have Jalapeno cheddar sausage but they'd run out of it by the time we stopped by. Dunn Deal BBQ is only open on Friday and Saturday and is set up for take out orders. The sides we tried were all good, but the portion size for the beans and potato salad were too small for both the price and just too small. The brisket was fantastic and I loved that it was served with jalapeños. The ribs were good, but our favorite was the brisket. Hubby enjoyed the thinner sauce that accompanied the meat. We will go back to try some of the other meat and definitely get more brisket. read more

Hands down, top contender if not best BBQ in KC area. I've bought a lot of BBQ for large groups with BBQ aficionados in the crowd. I got more positive comments on Dunn Deal than I've gotten from myriad of other places in years. And it's not just the BBQ meats, which are plentiful with orders, the potato salad, slaw, beans (slightly spicy), and fries are all outstanding. I can't say that about everyplace, to have meats great and all sides as well. If traveling I'd take Cole slaw and potato salad. Brisket is everyone's favorite, but the turkey is best in KC my a landslide for you turkey lovers. Chicken is awesome and similar to turkey. Ribs are quite excellent to say the least. Pulled pork and sausages are contenders with everyone else. Banana pudding is only desert, and others have said it's wonderful. (I've not had). All meals or orders come with Dunn's cornishon mini pickles, jalepeneos, and fresh cut onions on the side, with sauce if you need (but you don't need sauce with this BBQ because it doesn't even need more flavor. My only problem with this place, is limited hours and lines out the door, because it's so damn good! Absolutely wonderful! I heard about Dunn's during water aerobics, I knew I had to try it because bbq is my favorite. I was there on a Friday around 12:45 and the service was hospitable, fast and friendly. [[HIGHLIGHT]]This is grab and go kind of spot but there are stools at a counter inside and picnic tables outside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] When I got home my food was still hot, even the fries which were seasoned and perfect. The star of the show was the brisket! It was tender and juicy and just lean enough. The meal also came with onions, pickles and jalapeños which was a fabulous fresh touch. Today I went to Dunn Deal BBQ trying to support black owned business. I spend $50.42 on 1/2 slap ribs, Lunch Special Brisket with fries and potato salad. Also order a banana pudding. I asked for no sauce and I guess that was a huge mistake. My food was ice cold. I guess this must have pissed someone off in the back cause they were complaining about someone order BBQ with no sauce. The ribs are good. The brisket since it was ice cold didn't taste right. Fries and potato salad are good. Banana Pudding EWW (yuck). The older lady service was good. The BBQ here is great. Gerald is doing it right. I ordered a pound of ribs and a pound of brisket and check out the photo! Fantastic. This is my new favorite barbecue in Kansas City. It's basically a to-go spot, but the food is totally worth the price. The service is friendly and the waiting room is comfy. Everyone there was happy and friendly. The ribs were moist and smoky. The sausages are flavorful and have a snap. The chicken is moist and seasoned very well both on the skin as well as the meat. The smoked turkey has a different Smokey flavor and very moist. The pulled pork is very succulent and has a unique sweet yet spicy flavor. The brisket is everything! Some of it had fat marbling. Others were a little more lean, but all were moist and tender. And then the baked beans are the Barbecue beans that I've seen and tasted. Picked up carryout during their soft opening period. We both ordered the lunch special, as they hadn't implemented their full menu yet, and just had it written on the board behind the checkout counter. For some silly reason we ordered the exact same thing: 1 meat lunch special with brisket, potato salad and beans. Wishing we'd tried the fries and coleslaw to give a more well-rounded review but here we are. We both thought the brisket was great. It could have been warmer but that's the risk you run with carryout. We also both enjoyed the sauce and the potato salad. I didn't really enjoy the beans (I expected and wanted baked beans so that may be more on me and what I'm accustomed to, but my boyfriend liked them). It's a nice space to wait but there was a bit of a wait. If they were fully open, I probably would have knocked off a star because none of our food was cooked a la minute so a 15 minute wait was quite long but hopefully they'll get the kinks worked out in the coming weeks. I would definitely order again. Just a few notes for the owners: I would suggest they pick a less divisive channel than what they were playing, like a food network, espn, or hgtv. I was annoyed with the channel they chose (their business, of course) but it made the wait feel more obvious. Another suggestion is to add burnt ends to the menu - if they make brisket this good, I have to imagine the ends would be terrific. And I'm a sandwich girl so the option for a sandwich would have been nice. But overall, a promising experience. read more

My wife and I have eaten at more than a dozen KC area barbecue restaurants in the past 10 years, and where I'm more of a foodie, and she's more of a traditionalist, we both agree that Dunn Deal has the best brisket and chicken we've ever had.
