I've had outstanding smoked ham salad so I was trying not to be too harsh. But it lacked flavor at all let alone smoked. The basic consensus on the sampler was dry. The brisket and pork had a decent flavor but both were extremely dry. The regular sausage was only slightly overcooked with a distinct smoke taste. The jalepeno cheese sausage was damn near dehydrated it was so over cooked. My entire party assumed these were old product that had been reheated too many times. I hope that was it. Now for the highlights. The service was friendly and the chicken quarters were outstanding. Great flavor, juicy, a big hit. My date had ham that was also very good. Lunch for 2 (albeit a big lunch) was $70. I expected better.

I ordered the 3 meat plate, which I chose brisket (my fave), came with sausage and ribs. Got an order of corn nuggets and le bf ordered a turkey sandwich. The turkey sandwich was as PALE as can get and looked definitely like Budig store bought meat. Which isn't bad, but when you're used to having a delish smoked turkey sandwich from every other bbq spot, this was extremely underwhelming. Brisket was the driest meat I've ever had. Ribs were good, sausage was the best. Sauce was delish, tangy but sweet and corn nuggets saved the day but overall wouldn't be back.

And wow what a way to start our trip! As soon as we walked through the door, Franklyn greeted us with a big smile and made us feel right at home. He asked if it was our first time, welcomed us in, and took the time to explain how everything worked and how to order. Racheal was also amazing and made sure we were taken care of. The hospitality was incredible from the moment we walked in. I ordered the sampler plate, and everything was ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS. The ribs were incredible, the brisket literally melts in your mouth like butter, and the naked chicken wings were FIRE. Then you have the baked beans, mac and cheese, and those cheesy potatoes! Everything was flavorful and cooked perfectly. You can tell this isn't just food they really take pride in what they're serving. And the customer service made the experience even better. Franklin said " We treat you like family here." And yes they do! I can honestly say Off the Hook BBQ is hands down one of the best BBQ places I've ever been to. Franklyn, Racheal, and the entire team, thank you for making our first meal in Kansas City such a great experience! You made us feel like family. If you're in Kansas City, you must go here! You will not regret it.

This…read moreyear, we decided to switch things up and try Off the Hook BBQ after hearing some great reviews. Let's just say... we should have stuck with SLAPS. We brought a group of 15 people, so we had plenty of opinions at the table. Unfortunately, not one person left particularly impressed. The brisket was overcooked, and the rest of the BBQ was seriously lacking in smoke flavor. They were already out of ribs at 11 a.m., but we were told they'd have more ready in about 30 minutes. Sure enough, 30 minutes later, ribs appeared -- but they tasted like they had taken a detour through an oven rather than a smoker. Naturally, being a BBQ-loving group, we had to investigate. We looked outside for the smoker and found it... but the smoke stack looked like it had been on vacation. There was virtually no smoke smell outside or inside, which probably explained a few things. I know BBQ can have an off day, and I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. Maybe we caught them on a bad day. I'll probably give them another shot sometime because I'd genuinely like to see what all the good reviews are about. But for this visit, with 15 people in our group, the consensus was pretty clear: we should've gone to SLAPS. Hopefully next time the smoker is actually smoking.

I'm no stranger to Jack Stack and I frequent it often but I hadn't been to this location. It's very nice and clean. They have a separate carry out section and plenty of parking. The bar area looked very nice. We were tucked away in a large separate room that I think is used for groups but they had lots of seating throughout. The service was excellent. There were about 15 of us and both servers were efficient, friendly, and professional. Glasses were refilled, questions answered patiently, accurate food orders, and plenty of boxes, containers, and bags for leftovers. Five stars all the way. The food at Jack stack is always excellent. They are very consistent across locations and you always know what you're getting. I stick to the same thing-the Hatfield sandwich with brisket and sausage. It's a half pound of two meats on a hoagie. The brisket is always a solid choice and I really like how they slice the sausage, thin, not chunky. It comes with fries but I swap those out for two smaller sides-cheesy corn and bbq beans. I very much dislike bbq beans but I love Jack stacks. They are about the only ones I will eat and I judge everyone else's against. The bbq beans here are a must. The cheesy corn is my second favorite. It's cheesy and Smokey. Others try to copy but this is the OG. Another must for me. We also had orders of fried mushrooms and onion rings for the table. The mushrooms are excellent with the horseradish. Everything everyone ordered looked delicious. The pork chop is making me consider going off script the next time I visit. But honestly, I don't think you can go wrong with anything here.
